Not to mention that law regarding transmission of HIV in California [her state at that time] had its punishment reduced from Felony to Misdemeanor.
@Econ19917 жыл бұрын
With the August Ames situation we need to look at the full context. First testing around HIV is not 100% so you can never be fully sure you are in the clear and when you look at it statistically, homosexual men have more chance than heterosexual men. It should also be pointed out the laws in California where a lot of adult films are made. They downgraded knowingly infecting someone with HIV from a felony to a misdemeanour. All this in context and you can fully understand her views if not wanting to risk it and refusing to do scenes with those kinds of actors. From all the messages I saw sent to her before her tragic conclusion, they weren't attempting to 'educate' her, they were simply virtue signalling and bullying her to show how much more 'enlightened' they were to her. These are the people that would say 'your body' your rules' but throw that out of the window when it means you can show how virtuous you are. They are hypocrites.
@Fish4Man617 жыл бұрын
Actually, the context here you still miss, at least the part the completely justified it. Timeline -> She was going to do a shoot. She thought everything was legit. -> she gets information THE DAY BEFORE IT, RIGHT BEFORE (they usually know much sooner than this) that changes HER PERSONAL CHOICE. Being angered by the studio she thinks gambled with her late, lied to her and she then quit her dealing with when she dropped the scene. -> She is annoyed about it, and with her preference, made a twitter blast to whoever the next in line might be - of what the situation is, in case any late information - and angered at the agents rightfully so (you can see the "can't believe... agents... in her first post) - and since her preference she feels right or wrong on, they probably might want to know for their own safety, from her perspective. Yeah, I am greatly annoyed with how they have all demonized her in this, I think she is even right on about her follow up posts in defending why she even has that personal choice, about gay porn test standards not being what she wanted them to be.
@Econ19917 жыл бұрын
Fish4Man61 Thank you for the additional information was not fully aware of this. so we have agents either willfully or simply not caring enough to inform her due to her preferences, the fellow adult performers and their fans lambasting and decrying her as a anti gay (despite her many lesbian scenes) over a prolonged period of time and with it impacting her career and her being known to suffer from depression. How could any of this end well?

I hear your argument, but is it not ironic to be on the internet and social media bashing when the same information you provided is there as well as the information that would have corrected her own thought process? She didn't mention any of the background info you just did. It is not the responsibility of the masses to educate ignorance ESPECIALLY on Twitter of all places. Her "preference" comments didn't come until after with all the hate she was receiving. That argument is moot IMO. You can argue that people online should be intelligent enough to know not to return attacks and simply debate issues. You can also argue people should be smart enough to know there are other ways you can educate the masses on issues about STD's, Bisexual porn risks, shitty management agencies etc. without attacking people involved in the 3 or using Twitter.

That's what pisses me off these days. You say 1 wrong(ly interpreted) word on the internet and everyone suddenly is your enemy. Even if you express a rational opinion there are many people these days that would argue against it and insult you for it just because their own feelings are hurt or their opinions about the world or morals are threatened. Just because not everyone thinks like you, just because you THINK someone is discriminating (without having any solid proof) doesn't mean you have to shame him(/her) into depression and suicide or ruin their career. And even if someone is discriminating and racist there are ways to tell them they are wrong in doing what they do WITHOUT throwing insults towards them.
@sal85277 жыл бұрын
Sneaky Dexter Yeah, people are just looking for trouble sometimes. Who knows why. I didn’t worry too much about it. He had a point, although it could have been expressed in a more moderate fashion. Your last point is very true - even when confronting someone who’s an asshole (as long and they’re not being actively violent towards you or others) there are ways to deal with them that don’t make you an asshole too.

How many of you have worked in blood banking? I have. If you, let's say had sex with someone in your private life and caught HIV, if you took a test the next day, it would NOT show up as positive on an HIV test. There's a reason there's questions about men having sex with men for blood donations - because some infections are too new to show up on a test. Just like if you got pregnant last week, your pregnancy test may still come back negative. There's a reason she mentioned people's personal lives and everyone who bullied her has no idea what they're talking about.
@frozen10020007 жыл бұрын
Okay but considering how the Adult industry works.... Is it possible for her to have sex with a man(Straight/clean) who had sex with another woman(straight/clean) and that woman had sex with a man(bisexual) and AIDS/HIV spread through that way?
@applsauce33937 жыл бұрын
Yes. But Is it NEARLY as likely? No. I feel like that comparison is like saying there is no reason to look both ways before crossing the street. "You should always look both ways before crossing the street, for your own personal safety." "Yeah, but isn't it still possible to get hit by a car even after looking both ways? So why bother?" There is a risk to everything you do in life. You can't expect to stay 100% safe, but you can take actions that statistically improve your odds, and as far as I'm concerned, THAT is the argument here.
@TheWerecatboy7 жыл бұрын
But men and women, straight and gay all have similar infection ratios. Therefore the question should be "have you had sex in the past 30 days", not "have you EVER had sex with a man whilst being a man"

Mama Rora no they don't. Men who have sex with other men are the at risk group because they have the largest percentage rate for infection.

Reposting my comment I left on another video: As someone who saw all of this go down, here's my long rant: Gay man here and former performer (did it in my twink days). This whole thing pisses me off. After leaving the industry, I struggled with depression and suicidal attempts that were brought on by people I knew hounding me for doing it, claiming my life was going to be hell from there on out. It's not related to August's story, but suicide is common in the porn industry. I bring this up because backlash in mass can affect you if you struggle with depression, especially from friends (from what I gathered in her Twitter comments). Maybe because these morons labeled her homophobic is what really sent her off the edge. We see people go down in all forms of entertainment if they're labeled racist, sexist, homophobic, Nazis, transphobic, etc. Perhaps she thought this would negatively effect her career that she probably worked so hard to build. Furthermore, I don't think she was homophobic; she just didn't want to work with someone who potentially worked in bareback gay porn scenes. Having worked in gay porn, an innumerable amount of companies do bareback scenes and DO NOT test their models (don't listen to people who say they do--not all companies test for HIV/STDs). Considering the scenes I did, I was lucky enough to walk away with no infections. With that said, I'm not trying to bash anyone who has HIV or has a history of bareback porn. If someone feels uncomfortable having sex with someone due to things they did in their past, then they should be able to turn them down. But of course you have the will-be-outraged-by-anything mob hijacking the conversation and sending their hordes of sycophantic followers to harass her. I remember Jaxton Wheeler telling her to kill herself and then trying to justify what he said after finding out she died. And then Austin Wilde decides to lock his account after facing backlash. Fucking cowards. OH! And the gay porn blog Str8UpGayPorn published an article that only worsened the situation, so they share some culpability in this as well. I REALLY can't stand some figures in the LGBT community, but just know not all of us are sociopathic and wish ill on people who say things we may not like. I didn't know who August Ames before this was, but it's always a shame when someone takes their own life (allegedly, for now). I don't wish harm on anyone usually, but I hope those who were sending her death threats and escalating things have their careers horribly affected. Enough of my rant. Goodnight.

This August Ames story is complete bullshit and the fact that her death is a terrible tragedy is the only true part. If she hadn't killed herself, most people would have never shown any compassion or understanding towards her comments and would have only repudiated her as a hateful woman only to forget about her shortly after. Aside from that, it's very likely that bullying did contribute to her state of mind but people do not tend to kill themselves over online disputes without being in a previous state of severe mental distress.

Honestly, because of the backlash, she could have been blacklisted in the industry. I had a friend who was in the adult industry during the Charlie Sheen HIV scandal who used to date him. She said nice things about him to TMZ and then nobody would ever work with her again. You can get blacklisted in the adult industry for the littlest shit that goes public. It’s awful. It’s a life ruined for career adult film actors.
@ShamelessSexualityYT7 жыл бұрын
I hate that this is being left out of the story... Yes, anyone who works in straight porn has to have a 14-day current STD test. HOWEVER, the reason August Ames (as well as many if not MOST of the females in the adult industry) did not work with cross-over talent is because of higher RISK FACTORS. It's not about whether they still do gay porn, ect. HIV transmission rates are the highest among the gay male population. That's statistics, not stigma. It's a known fact in the adult industry that men make less money per scene, and many of the male talent who do gay porn also escort on the side to supplement income. (because of the availability of free porn = less money to budget per scene/less scenes/less money to pay talent) While it is TRUE that no performer knows what any performer is doing in their personal life, adult performers have to take the preventative measures for their own body. 99% of production companies will not let performers wear condoms, they have to do scenes bareback, and a 14-day STD test is all that is required. For this reason, many performers don't even have just a "no" list- they have a "yes" list (meaning they will NOT work with any talent who is not on their specific yes list)... because regardless of STD testing, if a performer had bareback sex 7 days ago and contracted HIV (or ANY STD), that will not show up until their next test. There are women escorts, of course, there are reckless women as well as men in the industry, but the fact is gay men (gay 4 pay included) have a higher % of contracting an incurable STD, and that's why August did not perform with them. Gay male escorts are not wearing condoms as frequently, and it's been explained that the gay side of the porn industry is much less rigid on their standards of testing. Ames didn't have it in her to argue with ignorant people, and unfortunately this is the result. We should all support each other instead of just assuming statistics = stigma. Show less REPLY

@goodgirl1407 жыл бұрын
The way I look at it, I really don't think it matters what she said or believed, and I don't think it matters whether people did or didn't have a problem with it. I think the real issue is the phenomenon of someone's comment on the internet going viral or getting a lot of attention and the internet just piling on the anger and hate towards that person. We on the internet are very reactionary, and I don't think we conceptualize that we are directing our anger towards a living breathing person. We assume that the person will never read our comment, so we just let off steam about something online, which in turn gets other people riled up and angry who tweet about it themselves, and things can very quickly blow up to a massive scale. If you are the person that the hate is being directed at and you are flooded with thousands of angry comments, it can feel like the whole world hates you. I don't think it's realistic to say we shouldn't respond to people we take issue with, but I think a good standard to set for ourselves is to consider whether we'd say our comment to the persons face, and whether we genuinely want to change someone's mind or just someone to hate.

Personally as a Christian, I would prefer that Jerusalem (both East and West) be a separate city-state like the vatican, but with a government structure like in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the presidency is made up with a Christian, Jewish and Muslim member that rotate every couple of months and a legislature that represents Christian, Jewish and Muslim groups/faiths. Also for all foreign embassies to be located in Jerusalem, but said embassy would be for missions to Jerusalem, Palestine and Israel, that way all 3 nations could feel they have equal representation in this holy state

August Ames shared her opinion online, and a lot of people didn’t agree w/ it and responded. Fair enough. But they way those people kept piling on to “educate” her was disgusting. Is this where we are now? Are we going to cure wrong think by bombarding people we don’t agree w/ labeling, accusations, death threats, etc, instead of actually trying to have real conversations? It’s much easier to call someone a bigot or dismiss how they feel after you dehumanize them and treat them as nothing more but labels or opposition to your ideology. But can we stop? Can we not fall further into this and just treat each other like human beings?

they way it mechanically works is that it decentralizes the record keeping, and allows you to have some without personal info given. it basically takes what the banks do and puts the burden onto those who are willing to share their computing resources (mining) and rewards them with a little bit of the coin. this is pretty simplified explanation, but it should get the basic concept out.

there are real people who stopped doing porn and become a successful mother, EVERY suicide is tragic- just think of prostitutes like that: they actually have no control over their body, or they have no other option (gaining money ), no other option feeling joy, can you imagine that? - Most people in early years are so delicate to fall into these kind of rip offs, life rip offs. I see every prostitute as a victim of our society, becoming a slave of sexual pleasure,...life is just so much more than just that... I wish that every person could see that...We should stop making fools out of people who dedicated their life to become prostitutes- it shouldn't be like that-

Not as many people watch porn as apparently the internet commentators would have you suggest. Most of the women trapped in it, that ever get out, all say the same fucking thing - they were being raped, drugged, controlled, you name it. They were already either damaged when they brought in, and completely devastated afterwards. This woman was obviously murdered and made to look like a suicide just like so many others. These people on twitter were talking about how they didn't get to rape her to teach her a lesson which is what they meant by 'educate'.

The August Ames story is a symptom of what I feel is a much bigger problem of the internet. You say something someone else finds disagreeable, you are not a human being anymore to that other person. All empathy, compassion, and conscience is forfeit in the world condemnation and wrath. Those people like Bruce were only concerned about that damage they did to August Ames when it came back to (negatively) affect them.
@gorisenke7 жыл бұрын
WhiteWeaselGaming To put it bluntly it’s because people don’t actually care. They only care enough to get angry. They don’t care enough to say what about it was wrong. Her statement about gay actors was wrong because everyone is tested before shoots, so there isn’t any additional risk, but few said that and instead just called her a bigot. It feels like nobody uses or promotes critical thinking, and it’s killing people and ruining this country.

@Polyothix7 жыл бұрын
Your statement is not correct. Not everyone supports her. I don't. I left this comment on this video but i'll leave it here too. Yes it's her choice to have sex with who she wants but it's also her choice to be ignorant as fuck. It's entirely saddening she killed herself but some ignorance can't be just forgotten. This all started because she was ignorant to facts. I will never understand why people just let their emotions run them and not logically approach situations. Was she wrong to not have sex with someone? No not at all. But was she wrong in her logic as to why she didn't certainly. A death no matter how sad does not change the actions the person did. How all sides handled this was disgustingly saddening.
@truther267347 жыл бұрын
Obi Wan Jabroni Is... is there a reason why you are quoting her randomly?
@dinogrenadier167 жыл бұрын
Polyothix yeah. Cuz not being able to educate someone is easier than to just tell her to educate herself. No matter the ignorance the person still had a long life and time to actually reflect on her words and ideas and what happens is she was bullied for thinking a way that’s not popular. She’s dead, but she was ignorant so... yeah. That’s bullshit to say honestly and she clearly could’ve learned from this. Not everyone thinks in a righteous and high moral way and of course the goal is to get everyone there. But bullying people to death is not the answer to the cause, it only hurts and prolongs the changes we seek
@Polyothix7 жыл бұрын
I completely agree about the bullying. It's just it seems some people paint her in gold as if she did nothing wrong after she killed herself. Death does not changes facts that she was ignorant and people just forgetting that ignorance stops true progression people need to know and remember that. Still saddening nonetheless.
@Lore_Wise7 жыл бұрын
That wasn't my statement it Was Noelle's, I also don't think she meant it literally when she said everyone supports her she was criticizing all the people who came out after she died and not before. I´m not saying that I support August Ames's statement (other than she has a choice in who she has sex with) however based on the information she had (Gay performers not following testing protocol) it's understandable. I also wouldn't say people are painting her in gold they're just not lampooning her for what she said because she made an uninformed decision not to perform with gay men that lead to excessive bullying she likely killed herself over. And people should forgive her ignorance because last time I checked being ignorant of a subject was not a crime and you are just as allowed to be ignorant as you are to be educated.

That prick who wrote "The world is awaiting your apology or for you to swallow a cyanide pill. Either or we'll take it". Needs to be made an example of. Telling someone to commit suicide, regardless of how they put it, is unacceptable. As for August Ames comments, they certainly were not PC, but did the world really need to call her out as a homophobe because she was voicing her opinion of the industry and who she chooses to film with? I don't understand why as adults, we can't open a dialogue without starting such extremes. Why does one comment make you a homophobe, or a racist? If someone says something that you think is offensive, instead of jumping on them and losing it, try engaging in a discussion about why you think what they said was wrong, and ask them where they were coming from with the comment instead of going nuclear.

The whole August Ames situation is just a tell sign of this whole cultural upheaval we are going through right now. Yes, we have to progress culturally and end racism and bigotry, but people have preferences. If you choose to not have sex, become friends or have deeper social interactions with anyone because of any attribute that's your prerogative, you are entitled to it, and you should be able to express it also (as the people that are contrary to it, for whatever reasons). Moreover, saying to someone that they should kill themselves because they have a preference is just ridiculous.

It seems that a lot of people don't understand that August Ames entire career was on the internet, so when she saw nothing but hate coming from her fans and from people that are in the industry she probably thought that her entire career (and life) was over. So when people say "wow she really killed herself because of some hateful tweets" or people that feel as if she made a dumb choice, please understand that there's more to it than just a tweet. Also If you're one of those people that seriously believes that she deserved the backlash she got just because she was being "homophobic" (even though she has been in many hard core lesbian scenes), then you deserve nothing less than to burn in hell.

@newman8r457 жыл бұрын
its not at all homophobic. Its a clear fact that gays have a high statistical probability of contracting STDs. Facts arent any form of phobic. All you could say is she needed reassurance that the individual that she'd be performing with would be tested prior (Which i understand to be general practice in the industry now, but perhaps certain groups might have a spotty record with and/or your concern could be that they could contract a disease after the test but before performing with august). Even without a risk of disease transmission, if she doesnt want to have sex with gay guys, thats her choice. You could argue that its rude to publicly state that without any other reason other than preference, but regardless that should be her choice to make.
@DEFIANT71DEFIANT7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Its an individuals choice on who they have sex with, and her choice to voice whatever she likes regarding that decision. The backlash was completely wrong and judgemental. I think Philip De explained that perfectly clearly and better than most. She "may" have been wrong about the risks she faced, but ultimately its her choice, and sharing the information to whomever would replace her is also nothing to complain about, thats sharing information for the next performer, who can then make their own judgement on what they do with their body. She wasn't bashing the gay community at all, and I feel the LGBT community is now becoming a vitriolic SJW group. How about people just let EVERYONE make their own choices on EVERYTHING, if your gay, great! if your straight, great!, if your lesbian, great! if your trans, great. I dont care and I dont understand the ones that do care what other people are doing, but to attack someone for their own choices is fucking BS.

The fact that people use this as ammunition for an "online war" that ended up with a member of the LGBT community killing themselves is depressing as hell.

Considering the fact that HIV doesn't show up on screening immediately, I can't say she's being ignorant. I remember being specifically told when I was getting tested in between partners (as I always do, and I encourage everyone to do) that this is the case. Could EVERYONE had worded things a bit nicer though? Yes. Anyway, I think the whole Trump Jerusalem thing is just ridiculous. There wasn't really a need to do it. Clearly staying out of it has worked up until now. Why go against that and purposely anger everyone without any real reason to do so? We gain nothing. No one really gains anything. Just pointless.... ugh.

@Caleb: Fair enough, but I think Trump stepping in is causing more hate and anger than it's solving. :/ @Ellen: You're absolutely right, it's not exclusive to the gay community. But, it is much more prevalent among it and this is an unfortunate fact. To be fair though, if I were in her position I'd probably request not to do anal sex or have sex with people who do since the risk factor is mainly anal intercourse rather than orientation. I'm an atheist, and I think claiming Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel is a terrible mistake. Jerusalem is a holy place for so many religions, that claiming it for country that is a refuge for only one sends a message to the other religions that the U.S. doesn't veiw them as equal. Jerusalem should become a nationless state set aside for religious purposes. This way no singular religion has control of the region, and Jews, Christians, and Muslims can worship in their holy place without conflict.

Muslims lost fair and square. And who cares what Muslims think? The Ottoman empire lost a long time ago. It's time they accepted defeat and moved on already. So i want to preface this that my family is Catholic, and that my Aunt married a Muslim from Syria. One of their daughters (a practicing Muslim) actually married a Jew (crazy ikr) and their son married a Palestinian. They all live in Illinois, so we don't see them a lot. But when we do see them the subject of Israel always comes up. Basically our wholes family we agrees that the fighting needs to stop because Jerusalem and the whole Levant is of great historical significance to Christians, Jews and Muslims. That is obviously easier said then done, and some kind of peace agreement needs to be reached. Basically we all suggest that the land be parceled as it stands today (Israel and then the Palestinians with the strip, west bank and heights) and that Jerusalem is free to all. I don't think this was a good move by Trump in terms of peacekeeping, but Jerusalem is definitely the capital of Israel. That would obviously be quite hard to do because of history, violence, etc. I don't think in my lifetime there will be a final decision. In my opinion I think that the Palestinians are more at fault for the hold up (because they usually are the attackers and won't agree to hardly any treaty) , but that doesn't come without blame going on the Israelis as well (because of mistreatment of general Muslims and Palestinians). Basically I just want the fighting to stop, it is pointless and will just lead to more hat between the groups.

Sad thing is, having a softer touch in how we speak, and interact with each other gets labeled as being an "SJW", or "snowflake" anymore. I'm not saying there aren't SJW's, however not everyone you disagree with is one. We're at a stage of extremes. Where everyone on the side you don't agree with is "insert blanket insult ". It's led to plenty of people thinking having 0 empathy is normal. "Doesn't affect me personally, so who cares", or "they should be able to accept any criticism, or they're weak".
@johnrivera74717 жыл бұрын
Fading0 That thought process is just common sense being seen by people who then call it heartless. Its reality and thats how reality works.
@Fadingxx7 жыл бұрын
Are you saying reality is having no empathy for others who you've never met? If so, I feel sorry for you, I really do. People are people regardless of whether you know them or not. Nor should being an extremist in either side be considered reality either. If "reality" is having a moment where you see someone depressed, and choosing to shit on them even more, over offering to help them, I worry about how you see reality. No offense.
@Fadingxx7 жыл бұрын
Also showing concern for others isn't being an SJW. SJW's are the people who say all men are bad, or everything is offensive. It's not standing up for a woman who just got punched in the face. Again, not seeing how that's "reality" either.

August's only real mistake was making a public statement that was poorly worded. Her comment wasn't actually ignorant at all, her position was totally sound considering the circumstances. Is it disgusting to be told who should be allowed to sleep with you? Yes. Is it true some studios do not have mandatory STD testing? Yes. Do homosexual pornstars hold the highest percentage of STDs? Yes (sorry, that's just friction physics). Are these sort of tests slow and fairly unreliable? Yes. I think August's initial tweet was a little insensitive in its wording, but I also think she'd have figured that out and explained herself better if she'd been allowed to. She probably wrote it while she was presently upset over the situation, and so it came out harsher than it normally might. I think we can all sympathize with that. The problem is, in today's world your every mistake is chiseled in stone, and you'll never get the chance to correct it because a relentless herd of screaming, ignorant idealists will drown you out with their own definitions of the horrible person you must be. Then you're ONE human being bombarded with the hatred and negativity of TENS OF THOUSANDS.

That’s the problem I have with “progressive” movements. Even if a person isn’t hateful in their actions or thoughts, those in the movement do not tolerate anyone with their ideals in mind. Hi Philip, Been watching you for what seems a decade or more. I love your fairness and transparency. Much love. As for Jerusalem decision. When you attack another country and you lose; whatever territory the other country wins should be theirs. The fact you lost 50 years ago means nothing. Sad thing is, she tried to explain herself but the hate train was already on full-speed, making so much noise that nobody heard it. Is it really homophobia? Maybe, maybe not. (It's not). Did you actually got offended with the words she chose to use when expressing her unwillingness to have sex with a certain person? I didn't see any name-calling or hating. If anything she's spreading awareness (or maybe not). The point is, she didn't want to have sex with an individual. Her choice. Pressuring her on doing it is already fucked up. I get it, though. Some people just want to defend other people that they feel are under attack. It's a noble cause, admirable too. And maybe that's the reason why hating someone like Ames gets "cool" in the eyes of some. Without sufficient information, we blindly hate a person who we were informed (or misinformed) to have been behaving horribly, belittling other people. But it doesn't end there. Next time we know, that person (Ames) has become the new victim and the oppressors are those that targeted her. Then people will defend Ames and bully those who were just thinking they were defending other people. It's a vicious cycle. Let's adopt this principle: Instead of being Anti, be Pro. Because hate begets hate. Don't be for anti-war, be for Pro-peace. Don't be for anti-bullying, be for pro-compassion. (Damn this is getting too long.) I'm not saying stop defending people that you think are in peril. I'm saying do it in such a way that it doesn't create another victim. That's just it. Have a nice day.

The backlash she received was harsh, but if those people felt like she was harsh towards the gay community, then I can see how people would think that she deserved it. Overall, I believe there was a better way that people could've handled that. When it comes to the Jerusalem issue, I find myself siding with the decision. (For background, I grew up in a moderately Christian household, but am currently skeptical to the idea of religion. I also consider myself a moderate/liberal) growing up in a Christian house hold and learning about history specifically in a religious connotation, you learn about the importance of Jerusalem for all three of the big religions, but I always felt like it meant the most to the Jewish faith. But putting aside that argument (because I don't see it as the end all reason) I look to the conflict between Israel and hamas in the past where I've seen hamas as the greater aggressor and even their response to this decision. A "day of rage". I find it completely unbelievable and lends credibility to my thinking that Israel would be better to have control over the city since they haven't really responded like this before. In addition, hamas currently doesn't allow people of the Jewish faith to visit holy sites on their side of Jerusalem like the temple mound where as the state of Israel has been much more open towards letting muslims and christians visit their places of worship.

The Jewish people have maintained a well-documented, unbroken presence in Israel for well over 3,000 years, beginning in the 2nd millennium B.C.E., continuing under a long series of Jewish kingdoms and foreign rulers, and through to the modern State of Israel. Conquerors, diplomats, pilgrims and visitors throughout the millennia have left an abundance of references to the Jewish communities living there. Israel is filled with archaeological and historical sites, many of which testify to Jewish life over the centuries. Even the Muslim Qur’an refers to the Jewish people as the “Children of Israel”. The historical Jewish right to a homeland in Palestine was first recognized by the modern international community (and by Great Britain, which had gained control of the region from the Ottoman Empire during World War I) in the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and the League of Nations Mandate of 1922. Both of these documents preceded the Nazi Holocaust by decades, thereby disproving more recent claims that Israel's creation was justified not by thousands of years of Jewish history, but rather only by the Holocaust.
