Subjective: Rem is best re zero girl, and I want her to end up with Subaru eventually. Emilia is good too, just like Rem better. Objective fact: Subaru made the right choice when he told Rem he loved Emilia. It was best for everyone at that point. And would be unfair to lie to Rem and pretend she's number one in his heart when she isn't. All Rem fans should be happy with this decision. It was the right one for everyone to grow and better themselves, and hopefully get to a point where Subaru can realize it was just a crush/puppy love for Emilia and end up with Rem. But this needed to happen.

Few weeks late, but I read up on Parasocial Interactions and Relationships this week for one of my uni classes. And it's actually pretty normal for western teens and young adults to have crushes on fictional characters. And it's not just anime, this also goes for actors and their public personae (=/= their real self). It's because this way they can "try out" feelings in a "safe" environment. It would probably be an interesting study how this translate into japanese culture and how often their loneliness.
