I am smiling and saying "YES". 56 years ago we decided when we married that we would have no debt except a house payment. We paid off our house in a short time and traded up and have a nice home with little investment. One time when we had littles we were weird because we lived on what would be unemployment, just in case. We put kids through college, had vacations on less than average income. Because we had saved for retirement my hubby didn't have to search for work when he got laid off and we lived several years on savings. We live on reduced SS because we chose to retire early and still put money in the bank each month. Like you we put away a car payment each month. Plus a fund for taxes and insurance. There is very little we want and probably less we actually need. My advice, travel, if that is what you both like to do because we never what tomorrowbrings. . As I at one time had a reminder plaque that said "too soon old, too late smart". You are my people! I understand you completely!

Absolutely loved this vlog message.. we lost our 2000 sq foot hobbie farm. 2008...Saved for 5 years during our chapter 13 so paid all our debts back and saved every last penny to buy this home in the woods with cash. I feel accomplished. Both my kids own thier homes out right. My son just paid off his home. It is freedom. Credit cards are terrible. That's a greeat idea for a car savings. I like that. We have one loan and it's the truck. I usually pay extra and pay off those quicker then the term. I also paid cash for our camper and everything I redid inside of it with cash. Simple and free. Its FREEDOM. great video you 2. Loved it. Hi purty Leo, what a pretty kittie

We went through the same thing went from banking 12,000 a month to being layed off I was 24 years old we went to 1200 a month and that was my wife waitressing we road the gravy train but we're dumb kids with money, lost everything that year my wife lost her dad,our dog we raised from a pup the week we were married passed,u was blessed though didn't lose our home,90% got layed off,and out of my 12 coworkers I was the only one married 6 months after the lay off,my wife took it like a champ, while I was feeling hopeless the day I was layed off the very next day she had landed a job,she would save her free lunches from work and share it with me because we couldn't afford food,I was and am so blessed to have an amazingly wonderful person, never appreciated it till I saw how she stuck by me when my buddies were going through the same things, except the added heart break of their gold digging wives,we make no where near that amount anymore, but we are more wise with what we do have

Just because you now could buy a house doesn't mean you are obligated to. You are happy where you live, and how you live, and you are debt free, what more do you need? I really think it is up to you to decide what you should do, and we are just happy that you've been faithful to living debt free and want to continue doing that. It's not like you are choosing to live in a hovel--you have a lovely cozy home. God has blessed you. :)

Do not worry about leaving stuff to your kids. My parents had four kids. When you live like you both do, your kids generally have the same life values. My parents had similar values and all of their kids had their own homes and lived in other states. It was so much of a hassle for us to try and fix up the home and sell it. While trying to sell it, the bills (electricity, grass cutting, etc.) still has to be done. DON'T LEAVE THAT TO YOUR KIDS. You love and make your memories and receive the value off of your family home.

We are already big savers and have no other debts. We pay extra on the house, but I am impatient and want to be totally debt free sooner.

If you have 27 years of mortgage you are not debt free. You have the biggest debt to pay off, not good. You are right sell the house to get something cheaper. The housing market is starting a decline, so now is the time to sell, a couple of years from now the time to buy. It would be best to rent a cheap place.

Thanks for the blessings, Bill! I do know that I am mightily blessed to be living in my 20 year old travel trailer, too. I had a wonderful 3 bedroom log cabin that was built in the 50's. The only thing was that I was an OTR truck driver and rarely home, yet had all of the expense and upkeep. I sold it and bought my much smaller home 10 years ago. I live in a campground with just the family who own it, here in the winter and I'm happy! You know, I truly believe that God put that bug in my ear about selling that house. He was getting me set up for what was to happen in Dec 2014. I had a strange experience on my last trip. I remember next to nothing about driving from Indiana to Texas and back. As a result of that, I can't drive a big truck anymore, as I was warned that I would likely have more episodes like that. I had many other physical and mental issues and I'm very grateful to finally see great improvements in all of them. I'm so very blessed, no matter what happens! I will STILL live tiny, too! God is good...ALL the time!! May God hold you in the hollow of His hand! God bless all of you devoted Tinyhouse Prepper watchers, as well!!

Jenny, We didn't have much at all when growing up, so we learned to work for what we needed and pinch those pennies. We learned early on the difference between NEED and WANT. We appreciated and took care of what we did have. Mama taught us well. A good life is not how much money or what possessions one has, it's being thankful for what you do have, no matter how little that may be. There is always hope, Jenny. I find that writing down all of my blessings, sets my heart and head straight. I have so much more than many others do. I have a roof over my head. I have clothes on my back. I have food to eat. My family loves me and I love them, even though I don't get to see them often. I don't have a lot of material things, but I'm grateful for what I do have. As you say, "It's not what you have...it's what you make of it that's important!" I pray that you hang on to that hope and set your priorities. Life is a ride of ups and downs for everyone, including dear Bill and Elizabeth, you and me. I prefer to laugh rather than cry, so I just tell those downs to take a hike and start climbing up with a smile on my face. Yeah, I'm kinda crazy like that. I pray for many blessings to you, Jenny!

@@jennymosca2178 Yes, it can be scary at times when part of you is missing. I also find great comfort in God's gifts to us in the form of beautiful creatures, trees and all of the other plants. In the north, the landscape is forever changing. It's like God is painting me a new and ever changing picture of my world. Winter will soon be coming to an end as Spring ushers in new pictures for our pleasure. Know that my prayers are with you!

We don't live quite as tiny as you do, but the living simple concept has allowed us to have the kind of savings that meant I never have to rob Peter to pay Paul. Since we are retired and make less money than we used to, that is a major deal for us. Plus it has allowed us to grow our savings even on less money.

Elizabeth I chronically ill with fibromyalgia so I can appreciate the small area to upkeep. We have a 900 sq foot cottage and that is too much for me to keep up. I can only do the best I can do.

Good advice! We have hit retirement age and are debt free due to not being frivolous in our younger working years. We didn't out spend our paychecks and now we are being rewarded with freedom and peace of mind. I think when people get to retirement, they really need to evaluate the important things - as you said - less yard work, less housework and less outflow of cash so that you have the time and funds to do the important and fun things in life that we work so hard to attain. I also have to say that your cat reminds me of a wonderful Maine Coon I had named Angus and he was the best cat I have ever had. He was the same coloring and size as your guy, and an indoor cat, and lived to be 22 years old! :-)

Love the idea you have the freedom to take trips & travel when you need to & want to. That is part of such important info you shared. Some people don't think you can get to that point in their lives. Yes experiences & relationships are so important! You are such good examples for us. I think we can all use this type of reminder. There are so many ways to downsize & save to be able to use saved money for something more meaningful for ourselves or to help others. Living on a Dime channel also shares similar but different ways to do the same thing. Thank you again for sharing & encouraging.
