I remember taping shows on VHS before the days of digital those were golden days and I still remember buying tons of VHS movies at the video store and going up and down the Aisles seeing the cover art of movies such an amazing feeling 📼

I was born into video entertainment royalty. First, my uncle owned an arcade. Second, another uncle owned three video stores. VHS. Third, my grandmother owned a picture theatre. Fourth, my father was an editor for the TV Guide.

I think for many people it's the nostalgia factor more than anything, it's what we grew up with. As a retired TV & Video engineer, I still today marvel at the electro-mechanical wonders that they were. 8:05 Yes, one of the reasons it may look better on an old tube TV is due to the lack of resolution and colour fidelity, tubes tended to look soft, whereas flat panel TV's sold today are capable of much higher resolutions and can show all the faults inherent in domestic VCR's. The problem is often compounded by television manufacturers who fit very rudimentary analogue inputs that have poor time base correction. It is considered an afterthought for the manufacturers who assume no-one is going to use a VCR anymore. You will find a big improvement if you use a TBC / Frame Synchroniser in between the VCR and TV, and even better, after time base correction, digitise the video and send it over HDMI. I generally find that OLED displays are better when looking at analogue video.

Last year, I went hardcore by not only watching one of my many VHS movies (Possibly 'The Dead Zone' starring Christopher Walken'), but by watching it using a Panasonic VHS camcorder that I had bought then on eBay and I connected it to my TV for some nostalgic fun. I still pick up VHS tapes now and then, particularly horror and sci-fi movies, as well as blank VHS tapes when I see them at thrift stores. :)

HorrorCollector4Life... Late comment as just subscribed to this great channel... but.. You damn right there man... the thrill of getting in the shop and getting the last copy of the newest film... or getting a banned horror film on pirate vhs from mates older brothers.. couldn't beat that excitement... My daughters and their boyfriends just stream everything whereas it's all hard copy bluray and 4k now for me... Thinking bout it all the one sheets and quads up on the walls of my den are 80s horrors except Halloween and Texas uk quad from 70s... Miss them days like mad...

I'll always love VHS which I have enjoyed since the early 1980's with my parents and sisters and I still enjoy the thrill of the hunt finding various VHS movies with cool painted cover art. I also collect other physical media like vinyl records, cassette tapes, tape reels, 8-track tapes, some Beta, DVD's, Blu-rays, and some 4K's because I love the tactile feeling of holding music or movies in my hands and the rituals of playing physical media like listening to my VCR with its distinctive mechanical whine when a VHS tape is being loaded into it and there is that excitement in anticipation of the movies about to be played. :)

Older me is so happy I kept all my vhs tapes from when I was a kid. I got the bug again and setup a whole vhs corner and different retro crt tvs. Collection keeps building. It’s a shame that goodwill freaks hunt down every tape and resell them for ridiculous prices. I haven’t found a single horror movie in over 3 months at multiple locations.

Them days were so cool.... all the artwork on the vhs covers and some of that in the uk was very different to that in the US... hanging out in the horror section and being told not to be there... only to get my dad to rent something for us later....remember mostly American werewolf, The Thing cover with Norris spiderhead and tagline "Man is the warmest place to hide" Nightmare on elm st Graham Humphreys where its blue and the claw is coming over.. and a big standee for fulci The Beyond where looks like someone's in a huge bath of brown porridge.. 🤣

nah, DVD and blu rays are better, VHS is not worth collecting, imo, unless its the rare not released on dvd or blu ray ones, the reason why I and many still like VHS is because we all grew up with it, so we still like that door to the past its the nestalgia plus the VHS machines are soo cool how they work. I'm glad for dvd, and blu ray.
