Instead of shaming us for feeling this way,(which believe me, the ego is indignant with rage that someone outshines them). We must get to the root of the problem and heal it together. That's the entire point of monogamy, which is having that ultra safe space which is pristine. Unfortunately, some couples get into a rut or they start picking on each other. This can lead to infidelity. So can freezing the other out, in or out of bed. Remember: sex* is the glue. Barring physical illness or coma, sex can bind together an otherwise desperate situation. *this does not apply to asexual couples

I think women cheat for many reasons; disappointment, ego, loneliness, selfishness, attention, not so unlike men I’ve known who did the same. Relationships take a lot of hard work and sacrifice. That’s a word no one likes to hear today. But I’m nearly 20 years into my marriage and that’s what we’ve both done to make it work. You put the other person’s needs above your own. It’s not glamorous but it’s rewarding.

Plenty of people who didn't cheat might not have responded at all or plenty of people who did might not have as well. Self reporting is such a low quality form of data its actually almost less than useless to whatever you're trying to measure.

Look it up more self-reported surveys come to the same conclusion that men cheat more. Other data sets like reasons for divorce and even the history of men generally having misteresses and concubines and using sex workers more than women also point to it that men cheat more. It's fine. I have to disagree. You can be the most attractive version of yourself and still have a partner that strays. The same concept applies to the belief that giving your partner regular sex also prevents cheating. Men and women are both subjected to the brain's desire for novelty, especially sexual novelty. I'm not condoning it, and it's wise to resist that in a relationship because of the hurtful, real-world consequences, but it does exist and helps explain why it happens. It has nothing to do with men or women being evil as some of these comments suggest.

Society has been structured in such a way that we're trying to erase our biological tendencies and culturally we abhor them. But it's always boiling under the surface. We spend an inordinate amount of time pontificating about why humans behave "poorly" instead of trying to integrate it. There was a time when men and women acknowledged and accepted their links to our ancestors and integrated it more automatically and gracefully than we do today. A lot of experiences and behaviors that lead to "trauma" is a result of biological tendencies of men and women being confused rather than normalized. I believe the wide acceptance and normalization of "trauma" has lead to the current mental health crisis. We traded one cult for another. People could argue that the Amish are a cult, they abuse their wives and children, but how mentally healthy are they with accepting their biological tendencies vs the rest of the western world trying to be something we aren't?
