Yes Jenn keep offering!!! One rule of baby led weaning is always keep offering. Children rejected food once or twice and parents automatically stop offering that food to the child, therefore limiting the child's exposure to the food and decreasing the likelihood of them coming around to it. It took a year and a half of putting carrots on my daughters plate twice a week and now she loves them. Keep offering separate foods on their own. You guys got this. Also let his cues lead you. Let him be the one to tell you if he wants to eat more or not it's going to give him a healthy relationship with food and portions.

Yes, I agree entirely. Also, I would caution against using language such as "like" and "don't like." Instead, using phrases like, "you're not in the mood for this today, that's ok, we'll try it again next time." We as adults understand that just because we are not in the mood for a particular type of food, doesn't mean we don't like it. However, when we use definitive words, children will pick up on it and make a negative association with that type of food. This makes it way more difficult in the future for children to be open to trying new foods. Wonderful parents learn as they go and adapt, that is what you two are doing every day. Keep it up!

Love Jackson's face while he eats!! Regarding his bed time, I always gave my girls a bath, lotion, bottle and bed. I totally get not doing cry it out. My little one is 3.5 years old now and we have never done cry it out with him. He is a secure and well adjusted toddler which I believe is because we always attend to his needs. From what I have read, attending to a child’s needs and not letting them cry it out creates more secure and independent children. I have nothing against parents doing cry it out, each to their own. You know your child best so should do what you think is best. You guys are doing a fab job! Jackson always looks so happy :-)

Love that Jackson boy! 💗 Y’all are so loving and devoted to that precious baby. Not that you need any advice because you’re fantastic parents, so I’m just mentioning this as an idea - if (and maybe he won’t be) he is going to be an only child, it would be nice for him to learn how to entertain himself and be happy on his own from time to time. So if he seems content on his own in his crib or playing in his seat or mat, it’s ok to give him some time alone. Just an idea from the peanut gallery 😃

Hi! So I have a 9 month old and we went through the same thing! If Jackson is not opening his mouth, and doesn’t seem interested in food, he’s not hungry! Someone told me “you control WHAT is for dinner, he controls HOW MUCH he eats” and it is totally true! Don’t force feed him he will show hungry signs. Also this is all practice! He only needs your milk for the first year, he gets nothing but practice on how to eat, he actually gets no nutrients! AND lastly, keep introducing foods even if he doesn’t seem to care for it, it takes 10 times of introduction to get a decision on whether he has a distaste for something.
@meghanberthiaume94194 жыл бұрын
What I’m trying to say is don’t stress the food too much, if he ONLY had your milk for a year he would get everything he needed! He will slowly start eating more solids, just keep at it! Water too, mine just started actually drinking it!

Basil needs to be pinched. You don't want it to go to seed so "pinch" or cut off the part where it's blooming. :)

C Liles good point! Plus, it will get bitter if you don't pinch it.
@susan72044 жыл бұрын
I'm curious, why do you do that?
@cliles67644 жыл бұрын
@@susan7204 Basil is best when it's leaves are plump and fresh. The good sweet taste of basil comes from the leaves only, not from the stems or flowers or seeds. In fact, once a basil plant goes to seed (after flowering) the plant knows its work is done and it starts evolving chemically into a different tasting plant. If you pinch off the ends of the plants and keep them from flowering and setting seeds, you can use your basil all the time and the plant gives more plentiful sweet tasting leaves.

Pinching makes it bushy and have more leaves Instead of just really tall. And it will stop it from flowering because it gets bitter after !

Tim and Jenn - to answer some questions 1. Yes, keep feeding Jackson the broccoli and pears. If you change up his meal and give him something you know he likes he will learn that you will easily change his food up if he acts like he doesn’t like it. If you feed it to him for multiple days and he simply won’t eat it then you know that he really doesn’t like it. But, don’t stop giving it to him just wait a while and try it again. Just like us his taste may change the older he gets. ( his face when you were feeding him was hysterical!) 2. Most places will tell you to cook your chicken first then baste it with bbq sauce so it doesn’t burn on the grill. ( sugar in the bbq sauce burns easily) Have a great weekend

At his age, he may not want to eat every 2 hours now. When my sons were around 6 months, they ate about every 3 to 4 hours. Especially once starting solid foods. And they melt instantly once they touch the tongue.

Answering a couple of questions you guys asked (and these are merely suggestions 🙂) - Jackson will eat when he is hungry. I recommend teaching him: this is your lunch today. If he is hungry he will eat. They don't need a lot. - (not a question but... )animal products are hard on the stomach, so watch for that. He will definately not be missing anything if you do not introduce meat. You can research as to why. More than enough protein in vegetables and the black beans you introduced. Our pediatrician told us babies should be given anything dairy until at least one year. Also, most humans are allergic to some degree, to the casein (the protein) in milk. Much research has been done on babies eating Whole Foods only. May want to Look into that. - Pick a bedtime and stick to it as best you can. We did 8:00. Period. Dinner, quiet play, bath (some nights), snuggle/book time then bed. -We eat dinner with the children. Works best for us. One time preparing, cleaning up, etc. -The more solid food Jacks eats, the less he likely will nurse. - The teething will come and go. Sometimes short spurts, sometimes it'll seem like he constantly chewing on his hand (or however he teethes). -The framed pic is the best ever!☺️ Keep doing what works for your family. We are so happy you have been blessed with your sweet, sweet boy. 💙

You can freeze pesto. I harvest a lot of basil in the summer and freeze small amounts in the small size Tupperware containers. Just put a small amount of olive oil on top to keep it from browning. When you need it, thaw and mix into cooked pasta!

The way I always thought about it is to consider how I feel about food. There are lots of things I like to eat but I don't always feel in the mood to eat those things. :) Keep offering and don't stress about it. He's learning about texture and tastes, etc. right now and all those needed nutrients are coming from your milk. We also found that letting them eat at the table with us during BLW was helpful. It started the experience of family dinner early. You guys are doing so great!

I was the one who asked why you get Jackson immediately when he wakes up and im sorry for asking I noticed it from a couple live shows and vlogs. I didnt mean any harm with it and am not questioning your parenting style. it was just a genuine question. I was always told to let them try to fall back asleep but I understand y'all wanting to be with him.

I was thinking the same thing! Babies are extremely smart, they know what to do to get what they want!

For my little boy the baby led weaning advice was to always let him eat as much as he wanted with his hands as babies will stop eating when they've had enough but with spoon feeding purees you can end up feeding baby too much which can cause portion control problems, my son started using a spoon to feed himself at 1 and now at almost 3 will only eat until he's full, your baby will let you know if he's hungry, don't worry too much he's doing fantastic as are you as parents x

I had 5 kids in 10 years, 2 little ones, at least, in the house for 15 years and I had dinner made every night by 6, my husband worked outside the house until into the evening. Laundry, chores, dinner, and next day prep done by bedtime.. I know it is different for everyone, but I just dont understand how sweet baby Jackson has you guys so dysfunctional throughout the day. You aren't chasing a wild monkey.. lol.. well not yet... give it another year..lolol.... I just dont want people who are watching your videos who are considering having a baby, or who might be expecting their first child, to think it is "so so hard".... It really isnt. All of this said with love!!! You guys are great! Hold onto your hats and buckle your seat belts... the ride gets rougher!

Just what I was thinking. 3 kids in 6 1/2 years. Dinner was on the table by 5 and my husband and I both worked outside the house. He worked days and I worked nights. It can be done.

I wonder if vlogging and editing makes a difference? I don’t know, can’t say anything I’m not a parent nor a vlogger lol

I know its tough to let them cry but they pick up easy "if I cry i get picked up" and then you will never get any sleep. You get to know their cry and when they really are not gonna settle. They need to cry it helps their lungs. My mum never cried as a baby and she struggled because of it. Never feel like your hurting them or feel bad about it thier young and don't remember. I love your interaction with him brings me back to when my biys were little. Thanj you ever so much for sharing your lives with us. Loved watching your little man reaching his mile stones and seeing him grow. You really are a fantastic couple thank you

1:18 that’s a female downy woodpecker. You can tell between male and female by whether or not it has a red spot on the back of its head as an adult. They love feeding from suet cakes, so if you put some out it would definitely draw more :)

So very glad to see you both in such a better spirit than you were in the other day. You both looked so sad and unhappy. That’s not you guys. I truly love to watch your videos because you are both so upbeat and happy. I was so sad to hear that someone was able to bring you so down. Please just continue to be you guys don’t change.

When you offer the spoon and he looks at you, open your mouth as you give him the spoon. He will end up mimicking you and open his mouth without thinking about it. Should be easier to feed him. 😉

The birds look great outside! I didn't know Florida got blue jays & cardinals. I live in Philly & I hardly see them in the city or parks!! I thought it was funny to see a woodpecker on a palm tree! Normally they are on pine trees!!

Snip those flowers off the basil plant, otherwise it will stop growing! Also some other more common allergies are cherries and kiwi. Just keep offering food Jen! It’s all so new to him, it’s a new sensation in his mouth. At this age it’s all about exploration at this age. He is still nursing and getting all the nutrients from that. When he weans from nursing then you can get him on a meal schedule.

Working in childcare this is the hardest transition we have on our infant rooms with feeding. Key is like you said to keep trying!!!! Too many options create finicky eaters. Keep going and try try again! He's either not hungry, trying to get used to the taste, or not hungry. Don't switch to too many options... It will get better, consistency is key in babies 0-2 years old!! You guys got this!!

I just want to say I think it’s so great that you’re following your natural parental instincts!!! If your gut instinct is to get Jackson as soon as he wakes up then go with it! The only thing he’ll get from that is extra love and extra time with his parents. That honestly wasn’t my parenting style when my son was a baby but you said it best Jenn, every parent has their own style and that’s ok!! It would be great if more people just respected that. *although I did just comment with some parenting “advice” in response to questions you asked in this vlog, lol. I only “advise” if asked, I swear!! 🤣💛

wait until he's a year or so old or so, then he can "cry it out" once and then he'll realize he's totally fine not being picked up every time.

Y’all are doing an awesome job with Jackson! Everybody has different opinions but it’s your choice to do what you think is best. You learn as you go. Also, if you don’t get much done around the house it’s okay. Enjoy your time with the baby, the other stuff will always be there to do... I hate everything with this virus but it’s neat how it worked out for Tim to be home during this early part of Jackson’s life.

As far as kids liking a certain one food one day and not the next, definitely keep trying. My kids are 10 and 7 and I STILL have to keep trying certain foods over and over again. Kids’ pallets change all the time and you can only keep encouraging.
