My parents divorced when I was little. Lived with my mom, but my dad was able to come and go as he pleased, and he spent a lot of time with us. Even now into my mid 20s he's always available to talk and actively takes an interest in what we're up to. I definitely got the best case scenario for a child with divorced parents. If the biological dad is gone ... as in disappeared, or deceased, you're very sure she didn't do it, and you are a decent guy, you may take on "parenting roles". You may end up being loved, and respected by some, or all of the children. But it would be a big mistake to ever assume the title of "Father", or "Dad", or allow others to use it about you. My wife and I have a six year old son. pregnancy took mental, emotional and physical toll on her primarily but on me as well. Even with both of us on a same page it’s difficult to raise a kid a keep a family. As a woman I enjoy your content. I became a widow at the age of 24 with a 3 yr old and 6wk preg. I put myself in school and worked on a nursing degree. Over 2 yrs past my husbands passing I began dating a guy. We dated 4 yrs, when he told me he didn’t want to marry me. I understood, and had figured me finding a man that would want to take on all my baggage - widow, 2 kids, working on 4yr nursing degree - was prob not going to happen. I always understood that fact. Eventhough circumstances were not my control, I knew I still was a lot to ask of a man. My dad died and I came back home. In the process a crush I had in h.s. came to pay respects. We were inseparable from that point forward. Nursing degree complete, moved back home, we got married a yr later. I know what a big deal it was for him to take all of that on...I’m still grateful to him to this day. He is an amazing human in so many way! I do all I can to show him appreciation in ways that are how he thinks appreciation is shown - like verbally saying thank you for...x, y, z; or when he’s near me scratching his arm/back/head; helping him get his stuff together for work in the morning so he’s less stressed; etc... any thing that lets him know I’m not taking him for granted. I also do not dress provocatively, talk with other men that not in a professional manner, and ensure he knows where I am at all times. I’ve also learned to not complain about anything he’s done. If something was his fault he’ll say so....if I’m not sitting there berating him over it. I have to say, it’s made our lives so much better. I don’t complain, he doesn’t complain...not that we never argue, but it’s very rare. I’ve also learned to let him have the final,say...even when I disagree. And later if I was right he’ll say ‘you were right’... and we laugh about how I’m usually right but he still after 20 yrsdoes the opposite of my suggestion. But I do not take that time to gloat, even if it was serious. Our relationship became smooth sailing when I stopped trying to be the man {the role all single mother have to take on}, and let him be the man and I be the woman. I don’t get why women think they are entitled to whatever they desire!! Sometimes you're not even on the priority when you date a single mother. I once dated a woman with 3 kids. There were actual times when I was completely ignored. Not necessarily because she was a bad partner but because she was really busy with her kids and their schedules. After a while I became numb to it. It was a real strange situation I found myself in, I felt single and alone even though I knew I was in a relationship with all the bills and responsibilities. Basically it's like this. Whenever something good happens in their life, they'll celebrate with the real dad and leave you out of it. They'll have their family dinners after a school or sports event. But whenever something bad happens, it's somehow up to you to fix it. It's all responsibility and work with very little reward. Just a raw deal overall. Never again.

I dated a single mother once. She didn't teach her kid anything. Didn't have any skills to teach tbh. When I tried to teach the kid how to build and fix things, she wouldn't let me. Said it was too dangerous or he wasn't old enough. When I played with the kid, it made her anxious and she'd be like "you're playing too rough and he could get hurt". He's a boy. He wants to fight with sticks, play sports and wrestle. Getting hurt is part of the fun and it toughens u up. When he'd whine and throw a tantrum I sent him to his room and disconnected his Xbox and TV and took his phone away. She fought with me and gave him his phone back. When he'd ask me for a new toy while at the store I told him because of the tantrum he'd have to behave for a month and do chores for it. His mom bought him the toy. The mom also threw adult tantrums, hit herself with a spoon on her arm and called the cops on me. When the cops got to my apartment her kid recorded the whole argument and showed the cops. It's f*cked up that she wasn't arrested for false accusations, but the law doesn't hold women accountable. I had enough and dumped her. Felt bad about the kid. He's gonna grow up not learning anything of value and have tons of issues. I grew up under a single mom too so I know what it's like.
