Either him or his wife need to call the dogs Over and then go to you, after that they're fine with you being there but if you just show up they will attack. Normally they're out in the field with his animals but if they are by the house you need an escort

Thus turning into an indifferent dog full of apathy and nothingness. Immovable force meets unstoppable obje.... wait, unnatural object meats restrictable mass... wait - you get the picture. The leg kicks too. My dog only does that when we find The Scritching Spot. Having all that itch taken off probably feels incredible. That said, it's not really a matter of the dog realizing it's good, it's on the owners to teach them. Like she says in the video, you have to socialize them to it. Newfie knows he's gonna get treats, scritchies, and feel better afterwards. Someone went to a lot of effort to accustom him to strangers, water, and loud noises (blow dryer). He's not scared because he's used to it and knows good things will happen too.

I really just adore Newfie's mildly confused expression when you offered him the treats. That was very much the face of "Huh? Okay, I guess, sure, why not?" Clearly not a very food-oriented dog, but also not going to pass it up when offered.
@kushiellee7 ай бұрын
Not all breeds are people pleasers, like say Labs are. You still get food hounds among all brds but guardian breeds like most Mastiff/ Molosser brds and like Caucasians, their reward is often in making sure you are protected and some, I swear, are concerned w ur happiness & state of well being. Food is always helpful when training new behaviors or rewarding stressful activities but it's more abt figuring out what the dog's purpose is, that's what keeps them from getting bored & not just listening bc they expect treats. You'd don't want a giant dog that's trained you into giving them food or they won't listen to you & behave. A treat is just that, a treat. A job is esp important for any breed that's a member of the Working class, which inc most guardian brds like the Caucasian. It doesn't always have to be a 'job' like doing rescue work or working w the army or police. Some dogs see protecting their family as their job which is why socializing is so important. You have to teach not all strangers are bad & how to rely on your body language & signals for cues. At the best of times, it's a very interdependent relationship. I've had a dog like this & it's truly life changing
@Mokiefraggle6 ай бұрын
@@kushiellee Of course not every breed is inclined to be food-oriented. However, my comment was more on the hilarious look on his face when offered the treats, because he seemed outright befuddled at their presence. He wasn't outright rejecting the treats due to stress from the groom, as some dogs have, but rather seems genuinely confused at the idea that these are for him. He's also remarkably polite about how he takes them, in comparison to many large breed dogs who will messily snarf them up, leaving one with a handful of slobber as thanks. It was a cute reaction, that's all.

My sister rescued an ovcharka puppy. He ws the eighteenth one ever to be in the US, and so little was known about him here at that time. Imagine her surprise when he grew into a monster! His shepherding instincts never left him - whenever I wore a poncho that I had handspun and handwoven, if though the yarn had been thoroughly washed many times as well as dyed, he somehow thought I was a sheep, and would try to herd me! Ultimately, my sister had to give him away - to a farm in the midwest where the owner had several, because this dog was not cut out for city life. Plus my sister was battling terminal cancer. But the first time her husband tried to bring him to the airport, he had to bring him home again - because the airline did not have a cage large enough! He ultimately had to fly to a different city on a different airline. He went on to live a good life on the farm.
