They can decide that. All they need to do is acquire 51% of the hashing power of the Bitcoin network. They can do this easily by acquiring miners. It would cost them about $5B - $20B to aquire enough miners- so a very small amount for them. They could additionally very easily build their own mining infrastructure - they may well already be doing this.

@@mjoh090Sure and then hard-fork creating their "new version" of Bitcoin with a greater supply cap. This would potentially dilute the value of the Bitcoin their customers own assuming they would "convert" the shares to the "new" Bitcoin (the ETFs are shares of Bitcoin owned by their clients, not Black Rock) with no guarantee people would value and purchase their new version of Bitcoin. There have already been many forks of Bitcoin created by folks that thought they knew better (making "better" version, money grabs, etc.) and they have all failed when measured against Bitcoin. There is just no real incentive for Black Rock to do this. Those of us that know better would never mine the new fork or validate and store the chain on our nodes.

Bitcoin forks have historically depreciated in value relative to Bitcoin, primarily because they became derivative chains. Bitcoin maintained its status as the main chain by securing the majority of the network’s hashing power. In a hard fork scenario, the chain with superior hashing power typically becomes dominant, securing consensus, while the other ends up typically producing orphaned or stale blocks. The higher the value of transactions processed on the dominant chain during such a contest, the stronger the incentive for users to favor it, thereby reinforcing its dominance and enhancing its adoption.

Because fixed is bad. Population growth means you need “inflation” or the ability to add to the pool. Limits is not good for money or currency unless you stop population growth. Bitcoin cannot work ever unless you increase the amount to work with population. Ie print money. This was the issue with gold, not that it’s hard to transfer and store etc but fixed amount means fixed circulation and fixed amount you can lend ie fixed limited population. The big financial guys know this but on KZbin they conveniently leave that out about inflation or the fact that inflation is a big part of what they cause.

What do you do for when the population is bigger and we have no "money"/ bitcoin to lend them to grow a family or live?? If we have a fixed gold and we can only lend out a fixed amount then the population getting born cant buy, sell or do anything because we physically HAVE nothing to give them. A basic example we have 10 bars of gold/bitcoin or whatever, so 10 people we can lend to but those 10 have babies and we only have 10 bars, what does the 10 new humans trade with? hopes and dreams? Debt people that abuse the system forcing more "printing" by living of debt and gov over spending are the big issues not fiat or gold or bitcoin. Whats your answer to new humans when we have fixed supply currency and no money for them to join in? The key is debt, currency circulation, humans, productivity ratio. Not depopulation, cap birth rates and fixed currency to fit.. Magic no inflation. i think yum no..

Wrong. Here is chat GPT answer; Yes, for Bitcoin to increase the total supply above the 21 million limit, it would require a hard fork of the Bitcoin blockchain. Here’s why: 1. Current Protocol Rules: Bitcoin’s 21 million limit is hard-coded into the protocol as part of its monetary policy. This limit is enforced by the consensus rules that every full node validates. Changing this limit would be incompatible with the current Bitcoin network rules. 2. Hard Fork: A hard fork is a change to the blockchain protocol that is not backward-compatible. To increase the supply cap, the new rules would need to allow for additional block rewards or some other mechanism to create new bitcoins. Nodes running the original protocol would reject blocks or transactions that violate the 21 million cap, creating a split in the network. 3. Consensus and Adoption: Even if someone proposed such a change, it would require broad consensus from the Bitcoin community, including miners, developers, node operators, and users. Given the importance of the 21 million cap as a fundamental feature of Bitcoin’s value proposition (scarcity), it is highly unlikely that such a proposal would gain sufficient support. In short, increasing Bitcoin’s supply would require a hard fork, but it’s improbable that the community would support such a change. A fork that attempted to do so would likely result in a new and separate cryptocurrency, not a change to Bitcoin itself.

Rajat you have some of the best videos. I’m been buying and mining bitcoin for almost seven years now and I hate seeing the price going up so fast. I want cheaper sats and a lower hash difficulty so I can buy and mine more lol. All the fuders out there, thank you
