Spot on!!! It’s the ultimate challenge! Get away from hunting “Private” and seek adventure! It’s so much more fun than heading to a food plot! A 16” 8 point in the big woods is better than a food plot grown buck that’s much larger!!

All these years I get the same lecture from my wife going into hunting season." Don't bring home those big ones,because they don't taste as good." Well fortunately for her,I don't have that problem. I agree with your thoughts.

Thanks for another good video Dale! For the guys worrying about too many hunters coming back to the north woods it will never happen. 1.5 million acres of National Forest and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of acres of county forest and paper company land. Where ever you hunt just enjoy the experience. Good luck to all hunters…🦌🦌

Love hunting the big woods of Minnesota. I started hunting there in the mid 80”s on state land near our families homestead. Before my time and through about 2010 there were some huge bucks. We don’t see as many deer or real big racks anymore. Nor do we get pictures of them. Got a big bodied 10 point last year with about a 115 inch rack. He had to be at least 5 and a half years of age. I seriously wonder if the smaller racks are in part due to stress caused by an excessive wolf population. A wolf season would help!
@Buckman-1012 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment Todd. In regards to you quality of bucks enters many possibilities.Try to find a video I made in January with about 51,000 views.The open segment I discussed antler growth in northern bucks. Big bucks are stressed out by the time big winter climate sets in.Could be winter kill affiliated with winter,or mortality via predators.Nutrition has a lot to do with antler growth. Many reasons.I guess you can say that we learn to enjoy hunting big woods for other reasons that many others don't really understand. Keep it going Todd.
@nightingaleofsorrow93492 ай бұрын
Keep hunting Todd! Try a few new areas until you find some good buck sign. I know it’s frustrating when you see more wolf sign than deer sign. I hunt the National Forests of Northern Wisconsin and there were definitely more deer around 15-20 years ago. 🦌🦌

You are in NW Wis for sure, no oaks in NE Wis or western UP. Want to find deer, follow the drainages. You can write off half the Ottawa NF, if your not on a drainage.

Personally, I think you have the best no BS deer hunting and deer behavior content here on YT. I watch every video you put out. You are dead on about perseverance! When I moved to the mtns of the SE from an agriculture area in the NE.... Let's just say I went 6 weeks between seeing a deer and actually getting one... Then I got another the next week.. So you have to stick with it and learn! I try to look at each trip into the woods as a learning experience. It may be a "bust" or it may not. But I learned something either way.
@Buckman-1012 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot for the comment.Apreciated. You are so right.A person will never quit learning Everytime you walk out in the woods.One of the best times to be in the woods,is early morning under the stars, listening for any possible noise.

Excellent video again Dale. I love the challenge of hunting public land. It is the constant chess match that I love. I have a question. Do you experience a period where deer become nocturnal after leaf drop? I have noticed this for the last several years. Perhaps the sudden change in visibility spooks them and they move to a more secure site with more cover.

I hunt Florence County and unfortunately, we don’t have any oaks in our general area. I’ve never had a mentor to teach me how to hunt the big Woods, I truly appreciate your videos. Any suggestions on hunting maples with occasional pines.
@Buckman-1012 ай бұрын
Hi Karl,thanks for the comment. 2 things: what type of pine are you in? It may produce bedding area,if thick enough.Also where is the source of water.The only hope in those maples is if you find a travel route passing through.
@karlsoffthegrid13782 ай бұрын
@@Buckman-101 unfortunately the Pines are white pines. Over the last 40 years I have been fortunate enough to keep the freezer full by shooting does and spike bucks. I usually hunt off of heavily traveled game trails next to creek bottoms (I am usually up above on a ridge). There’s no better feeling than hunting the Northwoods but it sure would be nice to get a racked buck up here

Have you walked the areas to find a bucks scrape area?Somewhere their should be an area of breeding activity.Somebody has to be around to breed the does.Pinpoint the scrapes,and look for a staging area.

Nice job Dale. Way to try to get more people involved in our sport. I do believe you're right, I think the country is going through a change. Hopefully, the right change. Lol. And, hopefully more people want to get involved in our type of sport/way of life. I for one, am all about opening people's eyes, helping them better understand, and being more productive in what is probably the oldest sport, if you can call it that, out there. I don't look at it like that. But if we can get more people to get out there, to enjoy the freedom and solitude of being outdoors, and experiencing the gratitude of harvesting your own meal. And all the wonderful simple pleasures that come with that. I'm definitely all for that.Thank you for putting it out there my friend.😊

Those hunting for points or score of rack will never be satisfied. They always will want bigger and others always get bigger and better so it becomes a never ending pursuit that ends with emptiness

man,you got that right.But there again,many choose that type of challenge in the ongoing pursuit due to their own personal competitiveness.

Awesome video!! I’ve been hunting the north woods of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for 39 yrs I’ve probably walked over 100 miles of these woods in that time always scouting and learning. Is the hunting easy? No it’s not and I think that’s a big reason most don’t do it (in my area the wolfs are a big part of people not wanting to hunt it). Do I kill big bucks all the time? No, but any deer in my opinion is a trophy. Once again awesome video. I could sit and talk deer and deer hunting with you for hrs

Sonja,after reading your question,I guess you can interpret in 2 different ways : Number 1, I do not follow to creat videos. Number2, I periodically will watch a video of a hunting expedition for enjoyment.And as far as Dan is concerned,he has an incredible desire,and passion towards the whitetail.Quite the hunter.
@daveroberts94802 ай бұрын
I have hunted various habitats for deer. (50+years) Without a doubt the northwoods is my favorite. I liked hunting the farmland to harvest a deer. But true deer hunting only takes place in the forest in my opinion. Deer camp was always up north, where a hunter could get lost (in more ways than one). I don't want to hear cars driving by, dogs barking, cows bellowing when I'm hunting. I'll take the sound of a noisy raven or a pesky red squirrel any day.

Welcome Rich. If I knew the type of swamps you were referring to,then maybe I may be able to offer an opinion,or not.I first would have to view his tactics.
@PrestonV3X2 ай бұрын
Are we talking the Beast tactics? I have watched a lot of youtube hunting content over the past few years specifically and there is something to take from each persons strategies or tactics when it comes to hunting. Some apply to what's close to home and some much more to certain areas or terrain more so than others but that's the beaty of it. They all can work, we just have to try and take what we can learn from them, apply that to what works for us.
@richstafford12452 ай бұрын
Yes I was referring to Dan Infalt. Was just curious. He is definitely a polarizing personality. I know John Eberhart doesn’t like him. Others love him.
