Here in Idaho Falls, Idaho, I pedal a Rotovello velomobile to and from work 50 minutes one way every day since I started work 30 days ago. It handles the icy conditions very nicely. I had to install a flag with intense lights to ensure that I am seen. So far I have lost 3 pounds. That's 1 pound lost every ten days. My objective is to be at 197 pounds by next summer and 188 pounds by summer 2022. Have a nice day!

I may not have the aerodynamics of a velomobile, but my recumbent is much more silent which is very important to me. I have a motorcycle top case mounted to my rack which gives me a lot of luggage space and improves my aerodynamics a little. And I have four pieces of chain protection tube in combination with very long mudguards, which helps to keep my drivetrain reasonably clean. Still I can understand why you would choose your velomobile 👍

Very nice videos sir. I really enjoy your comments and ideas. I am wondering if you would use something like a Rohloff hub on the rear wheel coupled with a belt (perhaps Gates) instead of a chain? It would be much easier to maintain and keep clean. I currently have a bike with a Pinion drive/Gate belt drive combo. I love it. Also I am very interested to purchase a trike or even a velomobile. Try it on very good bicycle lanes and, if not available, on the street, but driving in the middle of the traffic lane like a car. To ride in a city may be "saver" than riding countryside. Cars and trucks are not allowed to drive very fast in cities. Outside of a city, a crash may be worse than within a city. More important is to know where you can park your velomobile for a longer time (at work, at home).

Interesting video. But you are missing some important points. 1) Velomobiles are much bigger, than regular bicycles and recumbent two wheelers. You can't just store them at your apartment; 2) Velomobiles pretty much useless in case of traffic jams. You'll be just staying with the cars. On a bike with only two wheels you can filter through traffic. Both points only relevant to people, who live in big cities)

Saukki, have you looked into studded tires? I am surprised, that you did not mention them. Here, in the Pacific Northwest (USA), we are plagued, by "black ice", which has no sheen, and is difficult to see. I know! I struck black ice, on my 10-speed commuter (upright), and fell hard - resulting in a bad injury, which cost me my Winter sporting activities, for that year! Upright cyclists here, report good results, with studded tires.

I’ve made many videos about winter cycling, including videos about winter tyres. Check this playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLZWUH_85V1ZOBQrS_8v2Yx_gqsyXPUr15 As far as I know, there’s only one studded tyre for velomobiles. Schwalbe Marathon Winter. That’s not very durable tyre. After few hundred kilometers the studds start to poke through the rubber and puncture the innertube. I’ve tested it myself.

Hey Saukki, I mentioned this before but I am right behind you on the order list, currently #4. I had placed a $500 preorder with Doug from Bicycle Evolution, which he had claimed could be refunded at any time and that nothing would be built until I had paid the final invoice. Well, my grandmother died yesterday, and as I tried to cancel the order today and collect my preorder payment back he claimed that it was too late to cancel the order. You are one slot above me, and as I understand it the velos are made one at a time, so can you tell me if there is any truth to this and what the current status is for your Quattrovelo? I really feel like he is trying to take advantage of the situation, but I am dealing with a lot right now.
@TheVelomobileChannel
@TheVelomobileChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. The velos are made one at the time. Looks like your’s has a serial number which means it’s built in the Romanian factory and is probably now in the Dronten in NL being finished. They collect the payment before shipping. I’ve seen occasionally on Velomobiel.nl website that there has been velos on sale which the customer has cancelled at the last minute. So cancelling the order is not a problem for Velomobiel.nl. Of course the situation is different with BE, I don’t know how they work.

@@TheVelomobileChannel After I changed the tyres from slicks to something with more puncture protection, it was much slower. Well, it was not very fast in the first place, but I had problems with the ball dampers and had to get a proper pump first. First I got the wrong pump - it had an 90° angle at the top, but you need a straight head to reach the valve. I bought the QV third hand and I still have the problem that something is wobbling and I do not know where it comes from. Talking of wobbling - I rolled over a branch and damaged a front tyre and the interesting thing is, that I had the feeling to have a big wobbling from the back. I did not realize which tyre was damaged, as it was dark. I checked only the back tyres and they were OK, of course. I went home slowly because of the wobbling. Next day I pumped some air into all tyres for the next ride and then the damaged tyre blow as the tube expanded through the rift in the tyre... Luckily I had bought 5 tyres and tubes... In my city slicks don't make any sense - I had a flat tyre at every ride. :( Stupid drunken scoccer fans always broke bottles and threw them one the bike ways. That is the only advantage of the current 3rd world war - the arenas are closed and no glass pieces on the bike ways. Do you have an atm of your Quattrovelo by now? On the flat countryside a velomobile makes much more sense - if there is not very heavy (truck) traffic. Do you know Rawfuture? He has a back camera in his Quest. Regards.

Actually adding an e-assist to already efficient velomobile kind of hits a ebike sweet spot. On flat road you can easily cruise faster than the legal top speed of e-assist, so you don’t waste any energy from the battery. You only use battery power on uphils and when you start moving. So you could easily ride the whole day and still have some juice left in the battery. Some people have added a solar panel trailer to their e-velomobile. I’ve heard that on sunny day you can ride the whole day and still have 80% soc left.
