Mark Donohue in his book 'The Unfair Advantage' -- which is an excellent read-- explained that as engines break in, the pistons and rings wear in, reducing friction and increasing horsepower. As they age though, the valve sealing slowly falls off, which reduces power. Mark ended up having a valve job done on his otherwise stock, but broken-in Corvette engine and found that his car would beat brand new Corvettes in stop light drag races. That's what got him into motor racing.

I win, just finished my break in 10 hour on my 2022 GTI SE 170. Alternated throttle and gave it some good full throttle 2-3 second pulls.

I'm curious if my experience with my new 24 vx cruiser ho is typical. I did the break in in the manual. Rode pretty good after that, but was a little cautious so i wasn't pinning it for more than 5-10 seconds. Day two i pulled a tube with 3 children for an hr or so and rode fairly freely. 3rd day went out and rode on it plenty hard for a couple hrs. Then we tubed again, 3 kids. After we parked it for about 45 mins. Got on the ski like i had been, let it warm a little, then pinned from a complete stop and it launched out of the water with a f ton of power and up to 60 in about 3 seconds. The previous couple of days we could only get it up to 48mph and were a little disappointed. It about doubled in power out of nowhere. Is this typical? It blew my mind how fast it was.

We just bought brand new waverunner , took it out for break after a couple hours when going back to the dock in idle it seen white smoked coming from exhaust or jet stream area , is that normal for break in period ?

Watercraft journal, I just bought a brand new 2022 Yamaha FX svho a few hours ago. I'm reading the owners manual on break in period and it says nothing about how to do so. Can you please assist me with how to break this in properly? Thnaks,

After completing the initial break-in procedure for a 2022 Yamaha VX Cruiser HO as outlined in the owner's manual, it states you can operate the ski normally. Does this mean you're free to pin the throttle all day and drive it like a maniac? Or do you suggest otherwise?

kawasaki is gonna have huge opurtunity with yammha continiously cutting production every year. I have a yamaha and lvoe it but ive always like kawasaki they just need to increase their ngine size and lose some weight. the 310 is very heavy and dated keep the hull but everything else needs some updating

My jet ski has 420 hours, but it goes 3 or 4 mph slower then when it was new. It’s a 2004 fxho I think.

I have 620 hours on a 2005 Kawi 15f. Still extremely strong and stays right with the new 160x and 160lx. Probably the custom ride plate is helping compensate for age on top end.

yamaha reccomends 10 hours i babied for a couple hours then i couldn't help it i had to get on it a lottle bit i didnt go above 55 on my gp until after 5 hours

Pretty much all engines will gain some horsepower if broken in properly but maybe not as noticeable as Kawasaki
