I ran my first 18 miler today in preparation for my first 50K. My hat’s off to marathoners and ultra runners. It’s tough work. I could have quit, but discipline kept me going.

As someone who consistently sets massive (arguably too big.....) challenges for myself, I needed to hear this. Small wins lead to big changes. Thanks for all you do Fergus.

Wanna say thank you for keeping it real and being honest about your history. From my point of view, someone who’s attempting their first 100k in May, It can be so overwhelming trying to ‘perfect’ everything from nutrition, training to daily life. For a high level athlete like yourself to convey the same struggles it is really reassuring to get appreciation for the process! Discipline really is a form of self love

This resonated. Wanted to try my own KZbin channel for years but always made excuses not to and got increasingly angry with myself for not doing it. So I’m doing it. Started small and will build with time same as my fitness and adventures planned. Life is now. It won’t last forever. Take that first step and you might find you like it

I go through phases of discipline and no motivation every couple months or so. Not so much training, Im consistent with that because I've just done it so long (15 uears at this point) but diet, reading, tidying up, cleaning, being productive at work, seem to all go hand in hand. It'll go like - skip reading one night, watch a couple youtube videos during the day when i should be working, leave the washing for tomorrow, go to bed too late etc. Then one day i might read a chapter before bed, which makes me feel better, and makes me sleep better, which makes me want to work harder at work the next day, which motivates me to clean when i get home, so the next night i go to bed early and read 2 or 3 chapters before bed, etc. Then eventually ill fall out of good habits again for a little while.

The slippery slope effect can happen quickly for sure! I think the flip side of this is not to become overly dogmatic to prevent a little spontaneity/flexibility when it serves you well, as long as one can develop the skill to not have that kickstart a cascade like you’ve mentioned! Well done on many years of doing the right things consistently 🤝

Brilliant video Fergus. Love the honesty on all levels of what you touched on. I was in the middle of your S&C Marathon plan (October BH weekend in Dublin) but I damaged my meniscus and have surgery this Thursday. I found the plan really really good and was loving the variety it brought. I'm hoping to do the Majorca 70.3 in May so will be buying your plan for sure. Keep up the good work 💪

I love the rational look on discipline compared to most other "motivational content" which tends to be unrealistic with life situations. Love the content Fergus. Do you have a video on movility/injury prevention for runnning? Shin splints are killing me.

If you say what you mean and mean what you say, and you always follow through with what you say you are going to do, that makes you somebody that is deemed faithful, or trustworthy. It takes discipline to keep promises, even if your feelings try to change your mind. Cowards take the easy way out, but real men, men that are faithful and honorable, they will always make the right choice
