Paulien Timmer - Healing the fearful avoidant

Paulien Timmer - Healing the fearful avoidant

Күн бұрын

In this video, I would like to talk about why you might not listen to your physical body. You might have certain associations about how your body must function, or how it should not function. These associations can make you tighten up, feel stressed, or cause other physical discomfort. Instead of ignoring these physical discomforts, listen to what your body needs without any judgment. Learning to allow and listen to the needs of your body will help you heal it. Take care of yourself and your body, because it matters!

Yes! I completely relate to so much of what you shared, especially around, feeling that you have to be calm all of the time. When I was a new mom, that was even more intense around my family, beyond my younger years of being a soothing person for everyone. I have been in recovery from alcohol use this last year. I’ve learned so much about the causes of my behavior since then, but this one video offers such healing! Thank you so much! Blessings to you! 💗

Definitely relatable. Every time a child yawns in front of my parents, they make a HUGE deal over it. "OHHHHH, SOMEONE'S TIRED!" Like it's some weak or weird or terrible thing. And my dad uses any child's tiredness as an excuse to lock the kid in another room for 'nap time' so he doesn't have to do his job as a caretaker. Thank you for your empathy and your work, Paulien. I've been resting more lately thanks to your channel. It's exhausting to process this stuff. I feel like I'm catching up on years of rest.

Thank you, very helpful. I was called lazy as a teen when I slept in on the weekends. Weekends were a reprieve from stressful high school but not in my house because there was constant fighting and tension. Carried that pattern with me to my marriage where even after almost dying and being very sick for years, I was not allowed to sleep in on weekends when my husband was home and could get up with our son... Hearing you, it makes sense why I ended up with chronic fatigue for many years and had severe fatigue as my lingering issue. My body literally started forcing me to rest and sleep and wouldn't allow me to do anything else. I still have shame come up when I sleep a lot or nap during the day....but I do it anyway....

It's an interesting link between body and the trauma experienced. Gabor Mate was the first base for me in understanding what you are talking about and perhaps this is an under looked at area. Its interesting that we just ignore so many things because of psychological processes, great video 😊

I think maybe it’s better not to “trust” your intuition, but to listen to it instead of rejecting it. It’s just one more source of information. It doesn’t necessarily mean you should “trust” it.

Your videos are so insightful! Could you do a video about how a FA behaves or what a FA encounters in a work environment? In my relationship i'm, at the moment, quit relaxed but in my work life i'm struggling. And I feel like the underlying issues are very similar.

8.45 That scary feeling of being in trouble and bracing for impact (scolding, shaming, punishment in general) How did you get your body calm 99% of the time?? What is the secret? I work my a off in healing my nervous system but boy is it deeply ingrained/like reflexes are. ✌️

Really finding the triggers that would set my nervous system off, and healing those. But also, accepting that your nervous system is flexible, so not labelling anything as bad or not good. It really helped me to be able to get my body back to feeling safe faster.

Growing up, any expression of need was met with either my mother rolling her eyes, scoffing, a look of disbelief, her questioning my audacity, asking me to put off being demanding (dramatic in her words), mocking me, making a face of disgust, anger and violence, keeping score, bringing up how entitled i was being and on her best days she might ask "what have I done to earn (insert need)". Overall, if I wasn't miserable, she took it tomean I wasn't learning the hard realities of life.

That's really hard to receive as a young child. You deserved loving looks, concerned looks, and you mother asking: how can I help you? I'm sorry this was your reality, as you have always deserved better.
