We're on the same page mate, all this talk of the latest cameras, particularly the medium format Hasselblad push, is just nonsense. It's all down to KZbinrs trying to make money by sucking up to brands. Are these bigger channels photographers or salesmen? I'm using a 17-year-old Nikon as my main colour camera this year. 👍

Hi Gary. I followed your advice and went out with a potato. I didn't get any images but I did get lots of funny looks.😂. On a serious note thanks for the vlogs which I enjoy watching even though I am not a street photographer. Kind regards - Robin😂

Really good words, people need to realise the most important thing you need isn't fancy gear but a great brain - eye combination, otherwise your pictures will never stand out.

I enjoyed that and I fully agree with what you said about old cameras, errrr, all my cameras are old and I have no intension of upgrading! to-day Tuesday I just had to get out of the house having just come back to the UK from my winter break and had a week off without taking a picture all of a sudden I needed to get out and it was a good excuse to use my favourite camera it's now 18yrs old the 24-85mm is about 11yrs old and I headed to the local woods I did not fancy the city to-day! I had a great couple of hours doing something I have avoided doing the last few weeks and that is tree photography. Then I switched KZbin on and you come up with the very thing that I have just done! and that is go out with an old camera! you got some good images there Gary and it was well worth the effort. Thanks for sharing your morning with us...my images should be on insta very soon.

I think this argument stands up in every genre of photography the camera is not as important as the person holding it. I have upgraded my camera several times over the years and it has made no noticeable difference to my photography at all, nobody looks at an image and is able to tell what camera was used . The only time you really NEED to upgrade i would say is when you cant achieve the result you are after because of the limitation of your camera . However there is also nothing wrong with upgrading out of a want if you can afford to why not !

This was great, really enjoyed it 👍🏻 I keep my old 550D in the car as a backup for those, 'I just want to go shopping moments'. I think using an older camera with the limitations of today's bells & whistles just makes the user think a bit more. Loved the pic outside city hall of the sitting guy and the city skyline behind him 👏🏼

What I want to know is how do all those people know how to do the Gary Norman slo-mo...amazing - have you been doing slo-mo workshops? 😊 All good stuff Gaz, point proved methinks. Loved that shot at 8:42 of the lady & her reflection. Great outro Gaz.. good words.

Wise words Gary👍 The 700D and 18-55mm was my first combo, and the shots I got back then are just as good as those I get now tens of thousands of pounds of gear later. I can get shots now that I couldn't back then (wildlife BIF mainly) but for landscape and street photography the 700d and 18-55 would still do me fine. Very enjoyable vlog, thank you.

Totally agree, Gary. Prices of older cameras are rising, even the Olympus Pen F, which, being an Olympus user, I would love but can‘t now afford. But yes, the old adage, use the camera you have. In fact, I prefer the way images look taken on the older cameras. The new ones are just too sharp, and your eyes really don‘t focus that sharp! More of a soft focus. Well my old eyes do, anyway. Somehow I lost track of your channel, but am back on board. Love the Pubcast! Good old fashioned humour.

I think the age of the camera and kit lens adds to the street feel Gary. It's more to do with the photographers than the kit most of the time. Great video 👍

I enjoyed the video as usual Gary. Like you say it doesn't matter what camera you use. Buy what you can afford. I have thought of changing my Nikon D750 but to be quite honest i ask myself why so I'm not going to as i am very happy with it. Great image's as usual mate. Catch you on the next one.

Absolutely agree 100%, which is why point and shoot prices are rising, both digital and film. Whilst you are worrying about settings the shot is gone. Decide what you need from a street photography camera and buy the cheapest camera that has those things. Newest top of the range isn't going to improve crap shots. The one thing I'd like to add is that interesting shots don't happen when you've developed a style. Style happens when you take interesting shots.

Great video. Giving me ideas for future trips. I only do street photography when i travel..bird and wildlife at home in eastern Canada. Your photos were really good. I do agree and disagree a bit on the last bit. Having come from the film world through now to Canon mirrorless with eye detect, I enjoy the process of bird photography now so much more. Not only is it easier it is just more efficient as well. And i can get images that 25 years ago would have been practically impossible. Now in other photography genres I do agree...experience and skill outweigh equipment.

Nice one Gary. Funnily enough, I was thinking about you this weekend. The wife and I went to London, Covent Garden specifically and we had a drink in the Punch and Judy which is where we met up.

i have an old battered Nikon D70 that i take out to shoot with sometimes. no thrills, and aside from not being able to crop too much its pictures are perfectly good for a camera that is 20 years old

Who can dare to stop you taking photos there? The very point of it is to walk there, maybe eat/drink and take photos of Tower Bridge and it's environs!
