I admire the fact he kept Chase even though he'll never be competitive. Though, he's in a position where he gets to keep him, he has the money to care for multiple horses. I'm sure he's also kept him because they have such a close bond. Some people have goals to be competitive but don't have enough money to keep 2 horses, so if their horse happens to dislike competing they often choose to sell the horse and look for a horse that better fits their goals. I'd keep a horse no matter if it is competitive or not, but some people have very clear goals and decide to sell their horse to look for another because they don't have the resources to keep 2. As long as the horse is in a loving home, it should not matter what you decide to do :)

If people still have an issue after this, they need help because a horse couldn't ask for a better owner! He is respecting that Chase doesn't want to do the dressage shows, and is enabling Chase to find his path. Some owners would either force Chase to do things that make him unhappy (which might cause him to lash out) or get rid of him... Matt and Jesse are amazing humans and great examples of how to co-exist with animals. ❤❤❤❤

@@teenutz6987 did you even watch the video?. I think its so good to see that he doesn't force him to be what he want's him to be. Chase being a dressage horse must have bin expensive as hell, but that dosn't matter. He's letting him be a Horse and that is the only thing, a horse is ment to be anyway. Chase adores him because matt show's him love and cares for him. When he would care about him, the bond wouldn't be there anymore and he would just force him to everything, or sell him to the next person he sees. Do you think he's only in the stable and is doing stuff when the camera is on? When he would film the new horses and would show what he's doing with them, people would say that he bought them for decoration ore to show how "rich" he is. For some people he could do everything and it would be wrong.

Neither of my horses compete because they don’t want it. They get the winter off, spring they start light work and summer they’re trail ridden maybe 1-2 times a week. They’re happier than they would be on a competition schedule.

As much as we'd like our horse's world to revolve around us, it just doesn't. They like other horse company, they like doing their own thing, they like eating. How many treats we give them often plays a big factor in how important we are to them.😃

This video has just helped me more than you can know. I have a beautiful appaloosa called Peppy and I have struggled so much with riding due to my arthritis. At 46, last week I was told I have to stop riding and cut down on all the hard work due to the severity of my knees and walking as I'm too young to get knee replacements and my surgeon wants to try to delay this. I worry so much that I'm letting Peppy down, he is now living out more and I'm lucky he is at home with me and has his shetland buddy. I just cant muck out every day now. But I realise now he is just as happy if not happier and just loves to hang out with me no pressure. I didn't want others riding him as he is so bonded to me and is so special to me. It's fantastic to see you put Chase's needs first too despite your goals and aspirations. I now feel at peace with having a huge field ornament and pet.

I love this! I've got an old appaloosa that I've had for 20 years since I was 10. He's a retired old man now and I rescued 2 other horses to keep him company. They do tricks and get spoiled and basically live lives of luxury but people - surprisingly mostly non horse people - cannot fathom horses not being worked. They ask why I have them if I don't ride them...um because they are amazing companions even if they're not ridden every day. I don't compete, all I want is a nice trail horse to explore with occasionally 🤷🏼‍♀️
@kellyrobinson3136
@kellyrobinson3136 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. As long as you give them some attention and feeling they have a purpose in life, a horse can be happily retired. For their health and muscle tone a good lunge a few times a week, but for the most part just love and attention does just fine.

Our paddocks connect to our backyard so our horses could always choose if they wanted human company or not. When we eat breakfast outside on the terrace, sometimes they're standing next to us and simply nap or enjoy the occasional petting. It's super casual and relaxed and gives them an oppertunity to say "hey, let's do something together/I want to be close to you". They're usually be very connected to us though and one time, we accidentally left the doors open and came downstairs, to find one of our horses standing in our kitchen. What you do with Chase is amazing. You give him the freedom to be a horse and it shows how much you really care about your horses that you realize that he's not comfortable with the whole competition thing and instead of forcing him to do it, you let him do what makes him really happy. I think everybody can see how happy your horses are and how much they trust you.
