Actually, the America Sings attraction loaded on the top floor alongside the Tron Speed tunnel. Before the Speed Tunnel was incorporated over that part of the PeopleMover route, just as seen in WDW we passed the same model of Progress City that's now at Florida at Magic Kingdom. The Carousel building's ground floor was used for storage, as many of the animatronics used in America Sings were on swivel stages and elevator lifts that rose up from the lower level pit throughout the presentation. Even before America Sings, during it's Carousel of Progress days and on into its Innovention years (Pre- Star Wars Launch Bay which moved the entrance to the ground floor), the second floor was always the way to enter the attractions that were hosted in that building. My favorite part of entering that building was walking up to the top of the ramp and having to wait for the entrance doors to revolve back to the start position, because the auditorium and outer walls of the structure were on a track that rolled on cue around the stage which sat stationary with its own automated moving elements.

"Trust me, they'll also love whatever comes next." Great quote and it resonates with me for sure. Tomorrowland needs to change. I go there to ride Space Mountain but unlike any other land, I rarely go there just to hang out. Sitting on a bench in Tomorrowland feels like a sentence.😂

Nah, the sub lagoon with monorail passing over must be preserved. It's too iconic. But I disagree that saving the subs means keeping autopia. I think something else could be built on top of the sub show bldg even though it would take a little extra engineering effort.

Realistically Disney isn’t going to pay up to totally redo Tomorrowland to how we all want it. Retro Tomorrowland from Walt’s Space Age era seems more logical. That’s where they were headed with the new TL entrance. Plays off the nostalgia of old school TL, it’s way cheaper, and solves the problem of having to constantly update TL. I do like your idea of splitting up the land with new Fantasyland & Main Street extension. Maybe could finally get Liberty Street + Edison Square like Walt wanted!

I'm of the mindset that Tomorrowland's layout is almost alright, that is, if Disney Co. actually populated all of their real estate. Buildings are VERY expensive so tearing them down and spending upwards of a billion dollars for new ones is simply not going to happen. Disney will not be hiring Grimshaw Architects, as they did in Shanghai, for all new buildings. These buildings all need extreme facade -ectomies NOT like the kind in the 90s but ones that take some of them down to their respective steel and concrete structures. They can then all be made more coherent. Had Disney not updated Orlando's Tormorrowland its Logans Run aesthetic would still look futuristic. That's why they are slowly trying to put it back. Disneyland is not that dissimilar. Despite what people say, the aesthetics of the Tomorrowlands never became the present.

I enjoyed the video, but I just wanted to say there are a few wrong facts about the originality of the structures in Tomorrowland. Most of the buildings that you said were built in the 1967 Tomorrowland redesign were there since 1955, they've just been modified over the years. I also find it ironic how you focus on how Modern Disney should do things that are not Cheap and Easy while proposing to build a clone of the Beauty and the Beast ride from Tokyo. Disney has started cloning rides like Ratatouille and Tron from their international parks because it's Cheaper and Easier compared to designing a new ride/theme from the ground up. Personally, I hope Disney goes back to its old ways and creates new experiences with old ride systems like how they "Cloned" Tokyo's Indiana Jones Temple of the Crystal Skull from California's Temple of the Forbidden eye. Anyways keep up the good work.

I think the photos of the many guests dressed up shows how many people did this for church and special occasions. Yes, it does give the appearance of upper middle class from the way the majority of people dress today. Back in the mid 50’s we weren’ heavily in debt with credit cards. If people couldn’t afford to visit , then just waited until they had saved for the trip or realized it wasn’t something they could afford . In today’s society there is the forever handy credit card to charge such a trip. This is how many people have gotten in trouble by not making wise choices . I count myself in with this group. My debt isn’t about vacations , using the credit card too often , it’s about charging when I should have paid in cash . I hope my grandchildren can be wise and pay in cash as much as they can .

Thank you for saying "they'll love whatever comes next". It's what I try to tell people when they want to get out their pitchforks when Soundsational ended or just bringing up ending Mickey & the Magical Map (before the shutdown). You won't get something new if they keep running the old. Magic Happens was way better than Soundsational. Unfortunately covid halted that, hopefully not permanently. Although nothing has been announced to replace Magic Map yet, it ran for like 7 years. It should have been replaced long before the park closure anyway. The great thing about KZbin...there are tons of videos of them that the kids can still watch it whenever they want.

In a previous video you mentioned that Space Mountain might be moved and updated. I think that would work great, replace the Carousel of Progress building with the new Space Mtn. They have already said that the Autopia is going electric. You can now place a portion of that ride under portions of the new Space Mtn building. Make the Autopia drive through cities and countryside, or even a "city of tomorrow" You'll gain more space by partly stacking the rides. You could even run the Autopia through a plexiglass tube and through the lagoon.

Bricky, you are a visionary. However, I would prefer Disney to put such an investment in Disney Forward versus tearing down Tomorrowland. Yes, Autopia, Buzz Lightyear, Astroblaster and Star Tours are long in the tooth, they are good functional rides that kids and families still love today. Perhaps if Disneyland expanded first then circled back to Tomorrowland would be a better idea.

You're right, on almost every point, but there will be a 3rd gate, or an extension west of disneyland dr. which is where the new fantasyland will go. Your plan of taking away 3/4 of what tomorrowland is because you dont have any good ideas of what to do with it isnt a good solution either. Also the tomorrowland terrace is from Tomorrowland 2055 in the 1990's which I believe is still part of the underlying story of tomorrowland. It's the centerpiece of what tomorrowland is and connects to the rest of the park and the overall disney tomorrowland story. This was part of Tony Baxter's overall plan for Disney. It should be the center of whatever they do to tomorrowland in the future.

They could put the old Submarine Voyage back. That is timeless. Agreed on a consistent theme for the train station. I don't think a lounge would be useful for America The Beautiful building. The expense you mention sounds worth it to bring back the People Mover. Anyone saying not to bring it back otherwise is not understanding why people liked the People Mover in the first place. Although, I agree that it needs to be more than a lounge to look at. If nothing good can be replaced there, I understand you want the building removed, but I believe the controls to the People Mover reside there, so it would likely need to stay with a retheming. Agreed on the pizza place going back to being an attraction. As nice as a rebuilt Space Mountain would be, that definitely seems unlikely. Starcade should reopened. A complete overhaul would be fine but also unlikely. I would love a Walt attraction too. Keep in mind there is a limit to their budget, so retheming isn't necessarily bad if that's all they can do. It just depends what they do. If they have no option to rebuild the entire land, then I'll take that, but of course, pie in sky, billions of dollars, a new Tomorrowland would be great.

Not sure I agree with all your points…. But I think there are some great observations. I am uncertain about the points of many of the commenters either. Tomorrowland was best when the future was on the move. With Galaxy’s Edge it is something of a remnant of Walt’s vision. The false narrative here is that people do not understand futurism is always more about predicting the present. Which means Tomorrowland needs to be constantly refreshed. Today, we have a future is mothballed. We need kinetic vibe. Peoplemover is integral to that. So all I see is a future that is mothballed, static, subject to IP that overstays it’s welcome. But what we don’t need is more fantasyland, or more Main Street. We need execs that understand what futurism is. I do not have faith in Chapek to have that kind of vision and if they couldn’t come up with a solution under Iger, I doubt they have enough vision for today. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.

The last time I went there, I was so excited for the pizza, as I loved the Pizza Port pizza I had way back in 2014. It was the first restaurant I went to when I went back in 2021. I didn't know of the name change at the time. I was incredibly disappointed with the pizza at the Pizza Planet. It didn't have the same magic. I was also sorta sad to see Captain Eo was gone, but mainly cause I was obsessed with it as a kid and I just wanted a nostalgia hit. Space Mountain is as good as ever though! Personally, I think Tomorrowland needs to go all out on the space theme. It'll eventually end up looking dated anyways, so they should lean into either a very NASA aesthetic, something that will probably be timeless, or go all out on a more outrageous future look by combining elements from all sorts of views of the future from different times; taking them, taking the best parts, and blending them together, which would make it timeless in a different sort of sense. Something alien and unique. It's sad to see Tomorrowland be in a slump for basically most of it's existence. Making the design flow, making it consistent is a must in general though.

Brickey, I absolutely love how you think!! You are genius!!! Disney really does need to rebuild Tomorrow Land from scratch, but the Carousel (Innoventions) and Star Tours buildings need to be preserved because Walt implemented their design and creation before he passed away. Also, I think that the Main Street expansion you had suggested to replace a section of Tomorrowland, should actually be transformed into Liberty Square which was a section Walt wanted to build at Disneyland to support a Hall of Presidents idea, which was downsized due to costs and limited space, which is why Great Moments with Mr Lincoln was moved into the Main Street Opera House which had already been erected prior to the park's opening day. Liberty Square and the Hall of Presidents was ultimately placed on hold and soon built in Magic Kingdom in Orlando.

“They’ll love whatever comes next”-what they said when they pitched the rocket rods. It’s ok for people to like what’s already there. The biggest problem with tomorrow land with its crumbling public transport and infrastructure, continued dependence on fossil fuel, and rich people paying to go to space is it’s too accurate a depiction of what tomorrow will be like. The future is a reflection of the past and to just completely toss out Tomorrowland’s past when envisioning Tomorrowland’s future forgets the “Disney” part of Disney’s Tomorrowland, and if Disney isn’t nostalgia it’s nothing. It’s ok if you want the people mover back, it’s just a theme park

I agree with you up to the final plan to carve up Tomorrowland. Walt was a futurist and a positive innovative view of the future was important to his vision. A 1960's scale rebuild is absolutely called for, but that should not involve shrinking Tomorrowland. Sadly, I agree that the current admin might take the easy way out and build based on existing IP and patching up aging buildings rather than design a new sweeping vision of the future.

I agree with alot of what you said. I think they need to fore-go the high end lounge and create a Star Wars themed passenger loading shuttle ride between "star systems", as seen in Mandolorian, that would use part of the People Mover track but create a new extension and terminate somewhere in Galaxy's Edge. The "shuttle" can adopt the same technology as Universal Studios did for the Harry Potter Train Ride with LED wall panels projecting images as if they're travelling in space, be under attack by the New Order then hit light speed and reach their destination at a "space port" in The Galaxy's edge. I'm sure that would need a huge budget but I think the return would pay huge dividends. Just my thought....

Just about every attraction in Tomorrowland that the peoplemover passes through has been remodelled, updated or replaced at some point in the past, there is no reason they couldnt be replaced again and still maintain the peoplemover passing through them.

While I appreciate the views you described I do feel the need to point out that while the images shared of what future Tomorrowland should look like, it’s just not fiscally responsible. The problem with modern buildings is that eventually they aren’t modern. Trends change on average every 15 years. Originally tomorrow land was the future but it’s since long gone. Vintage is the way to go, trying to keep it updated would forever be a giant waste of resources. The nostalgia is exhausting, our memories serve us better than the memories really are. The comments about Disney only serving the top tier is literally the laziest argument. Disney has always been for the top tiers. Old footage shows people in their Sunday best. Disney has no problem with attendance, it’s obviously plenty affordable. Walt Disney himself once said when faced between bathrooms or drinking fountains in the budget said “people can’t piss in the street, but they can buy coke” he established the elite club 33. Where is this nonsense that he was for the poor? Where is the outrage for club 33? Disney is a Luxury just the same as a beach front vacation is to some. Let’s stop with the nonsense that he would be rolling in his grave. I do agree with your expansion of fantasyland and I appreciate the content but I just wanted to provide my unsolicited prospective.

I disagree. As I noted, the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland aesthetic never became the present, which is why they are now trying -- not terribly hard and with great success -- to put it back.

As a midwest Canadian, Disney World has always been the destination rather than Disneyland. But I do hope to get there one day, and when I do, it would be great if it's been built to your vision for Tomorrowland.

The Disneyland Railroad station in Tomorrowland always seemed like a mismatch-necessary in the park geographically, but the 19th century train was incongruous with the surroundings, while it could fit with each of its other stops. I don’t understand the Disney Vacation Club lounge in the old show building either, probably because I’m not one of the people who would pay to have a place to take a break while I’m on vacation. I will go get something to eat or drink at one of the restaurants or snack bars around the park when it’s time for a break. (Admittedly, that means I’m not in the demographic that is DVC.) 😂

Okay, I want a VR documentation of everything, and have a sort of museum, a sort of “Evolution of Tommorowland” Then we can rebuild and implement all this. I just think some folks are too attached to let go, I think a 3D capture of tommorowland before it’s rebuilding will help encapsulate it.

Either bring back People Mover or remove the tracks, but neither is their actual plans. Tomorrowland is stagnant. Leave Buzz Lightyear ride, which is an engaging kids ride that doesn’t have a long wait. I would do a wholesale replacement of Autopia, Submarines, and Innoventions for Tron ride.

You bring up some wonderful points and I really appreciated the time you put into all of the historical videos. From a financial standpoint, keeping a “tomorrow” land, is terribly difficult when every tomorrow, becomes a yesterday… I can see how tearing down and completely rebuilding could become eternally expensive every 10 years or so… It is truly the only way to keep it “tomorrow.” At the very least they should consider gutting current buildings and creating new attractions within those walls. I don’t think anyone would care about a lounge for the well off, if we felt that the rest of us were still being entertained in that land… The Club 33 example…. No one cares because we have so many other wonderful things for the rest of us to do! But when it’s practically the only thing in the land…. It feels like a slap of sorts to the rest of us. But to watch the land basically rot away… That’s the worst option of all. Especially for those of us who remember when it was a vibrant land with life and energy.

This is an interesting take. I love the retro-futurism feel. Disneyland to me is a blast to the past, from Adventureland to Fantasyland to Main St. Having an ultra-modern Tomorrowland, despite the name, doesn’t fit. It’s not cohesive, and I agree that hanging that should happen. Your idea of a Walt ride is interesting, and would fit with Main St, but it was meant to be a street. It has its own spoke on the wheel and adding that section would take that spoke away from one land and give another land two. I’d let Tomorrowland keep its own spoke, its own entrance, without the Orbiter of course. Star Tours doesn’t fit any longer. I’d love to have a PeopleMover of some sort. In WDW it’s a great way to get a break for your feet while taking in the feel of the land and the park.

Lots of controversy in this video. I don't envy you having to read all the comments. Lol. I'll say this video was pieced together well. I loved the old and new reference content. I've got to say you're right Walt would not want to do the easy fix, but I don't think he'd want to cut it into a tiny sliver of the one attraction that did work either. To give up on Tomorrowland is to give up on the idea that human kind has growth to look forward to. I think if they stop hyperfixating on the space theme, then the imagineers could come up with an amazing hope for the future. Call me a grandma, but I don't enjoy either Web Slingers or Smugglers Run. They are too high stimulation and the story gets lost. Attractions like that don't appeal to the whole family. If we keep getting more high stimulus and they take out slower attractions similar to astroblasters and Nemo then it will be just like Six Flags. I will drop off the teens, cuz I don't want to go.

Great video Brickey. Tomorrowland holds most of my best memories. I grew up visiting Disneyland in the 60s through the 90s. But the time for nostalgia is gone. Tomorrowland, in its entirety needs to go. It has lost continuity. It has lost its sense of purpose. It's a store room wrapped in an IP skin. I agree about keeping the train station, Monorail, and Space Mountain (but re-theme the monorail to not be a billboard in the sky. Tomorrowland also needs a more kinetic feel. Yes I would like to see a NEW Peoplemover integrated into Disneyland, but unobtrusively wandering though the areas and hidden from most sightlines. I also agree with cutting up the area currently occupied by Tomorrowland, though not the way you envision it. I see that area as the place of balance where the fun of reality meets the magic of fantasy. For example, let the Galaxy's Edge area be the sci-fi fantasy zone while Tomorrowland is where we go to glimpse the wonders of the probable, or at least most likely possible future - based on a mixture of dreams and science (sort of the Elon Musk approach). For that reason, Tomorrowland should be small, cohesive, and flexible enough to be always updating while remaining in theme. I like the idea of a tribute ride to Walt Disney and his vision, but I am opposed to expanding main street USA. I also think the area you suggest become a fantasyland extension become a carefully planned land that begins to blur and blend the lines between reality and fantasy; and of and past, present and future. A Disney tribute ride would go well there, along with something Jules Vern-ish. A kind of kind of a steampunk-style land with an easily changeable ride through time and cultures built ala the Indiana Jones track. I envision more Victorian architecture on the Fantasyland side and more "imaginative future" styling on the Tomorrowland side. Oh yes, and don't kill it with IP rides. If you have to sell your movie merchandise, build a Movieland just for IP rides and stores and put it in DCA.

I know I'm easily swayed because I come off this video going yeah that's a great idea and I came off the people mover video from offhand going yeah that's a great idea 😂 honestly, I think you're right about taking over part of Tomorrowland for fantasyland. There is no way Disney sleeps on a frozen land out here one way or the other... It needs representation and it would be a perfect setting by the Matterhorn. I think It all becomes clearer if you start talking numbers. Tomorrowland rebuild would be 5 to 10 years if it's done right. Maybe they could get it done quick but they wouldn't get it done right. And the numbers don't lie. If you asked people at rope drop which direction they were heading first, you get one of 3 answers, and you know space mountain's number one. I think it's hard to justify killing a land for so long when it draws the crowds that direction and helps with crowd control. Yeah it's kind of bad aesthetically and it's an amalgamation of too many IPs, which is what's causing the problem... But realistically Tomorrowland needs a patch for now. If the people mover is that patch until they can do some serious construction/destruction... I don't think that's a bad plan. The DVC lounge aspect really sucks but a people mover update would go a long way in smoothing things out. That said I would be so stoked if they would theme the land more around space and even putting the astral order back on top of the people mover tracks would be amazing! It really does block the entrance and it doesn't add much there. I love all the rides and Tomorrowland independently but I agree you could cut almost everything except for space and the trains. All in all a great video! I look forward to seeing what other deep dives you've got on your channel!

Just a crazy idea... I know a ton of work needs to be done. I'm thinking use the section of track that runs above the autopia... Some how use it as a "highway" portion to the autopia. Just a thought
