Why You Hate G5 (...I think)

Some of y'all act like MLP G5 fucked your wife and killed your parents. Also, I made this video in less than a day, so that's why it's terrible.

My biggest issue with G5 is writing, especially split into 3 main issues. 1 there has been very little character growth in the episodes, it seems like the characters are in some sort of time loop, when the day is done everything gets reset and next day starts. 2 the story introduces more questions than it answers, and if it does answer something its completely inconsequential stuff like, unicorns important sleepover traditions... 3 The overarching story so far seems disjointed, confused, and directionless. And I honestly think even mentioning G4 in G5 was a mistake. But I will admit, this season was better than the make your mark special and the mini series on KZbin. (Though Opaline or what's her name needs to thrown into the nearest wood chipper along with that cocomelon looking as dragon)

Those are probably the most unique complaints I’ve heard about the show yet. Idk how much character development shows from episode to episode, but there is a story to be told. A good story? Idk, but all the stuff with Misty and Opaline and Sparky has been set up.

Especially Opalines? apperantly shes super mega powerful but she sure doesnt look like an evil villian that has caused warfare and pushed species to the brink of exsitence possibly wiping out other races/celestia and luna. Like she doesnt have to look evil but to be one of this grandure and not look at least a little beaten up idk it doesnt work for me. Like all the villians except cozy glow (i also dont like cozy glow) had at least something that that showed that they were actually bigger and stronger and smarter. Ophelia plus her god awful design just in general doesnt have any of that, she doesnt look intimidating, she doesnt look different, she doesnt look powerful, shes not smart, theres nothing about her that makes her a powerful villian at least give her a good design oml.

The problem with Opaline’s design is the colour scheme first and foremost. It’s too bright! If you look closely you can see her muzzle and stomach are slightly paler, it makes the face look like it has light lipstick. And her hair is too pale compared to the fur, dark purple and teal can actually look good together, but the purple’s too dark and the mane has white in it. The mane itself is white and light teal which makes it look like toothpaste, it would look better if darker. Finally we have the eyes, the eyeshadow doesn’t work because there’s no depth on the lid. The eye colour itself should be different, not in blue nor purple, but a warm colour. Teal , purple and yellow would work better if dosed correctly. In any case, the executive who approved of this needs to go back to art school.

I really hope G5's lore gets better. All of these weird mysteries need a good answer if it'll take a really long time for the writers to reveal how everything got messed up. I wonder if G5 will get Gravity Fall's level of mastery when it comes to mystery.

The problem with g5 is that every time it "answers a question" the answer is always vague or just brings up more questions. Now that the focus of g5 will be Tell Your Tale, I don't think we will get any proper answers because Tell Your Tale has hardly any connections to G4

"Who cares if there are discontinuities." No, that is a horrible way to approach any piece of fiction that relies on a cohesive story, even kid's media. If MLP was the type of show where continuity didn't matter, that'd be one thing, but by being a continuation of G4 as well as deciding to have a continuous story, they need to make good continuity. Yes, kids won't necessarily care about that stuff as much as adults, but when you choose to make kids a show that relies on continuity, you're choosing to attract the types of kids who do care. G5 chose to be a continuity-reliant story, ergo, they owe it to themselves and their audience to make the continuity solid. Fans vehemently criticized continuity issues in G4 as well, so we cannot pretend like this is only a G5 thing. Saying "as long as Hasbro sells toys, they're happy" is not a defense of the show. That's basically saying "the show might be bad, but it's doing its job." People who are criticizing the show (for the most part) are not criticizing it's ability to make money, they are criticizing how it works as a show. The Transformers movies, the Twilight movies and The Lion King 2019 all made money, that doesn't make them good. Personally, I believe the bigger problem with G5 is wanting to tell a story that simply doesn't work with G4's lore but still wanting to use G4 to bring in viewers. Thus, much like The Last Jedi, it feels more like fanfic since this isn't the natural conclusion most would make on this world and we didn't get to see how it got to this point. Many people are probably afraid they're going to go full Luke Skywalker and have the G4 ponies act out of character because "time turned them into different people" which is really lazy writing. When it comes to making a new world or relying on the old one, the writers of G5 are trying to have their cake and eat it too, which is making the show feel stretched in two incoherent directions. It could still work given time, but the problems are already very apparent in these early stages.

I get it, I really do. Coherency in storytelling obviously matters, but I’m not content with the show because Hasbro is selling toys. I’m content because I’m enjoying the show in spite of the mistakes. Like I said, my expectations for MLP are never high. G4 managed to reign people in despite its contradictions and controversies after all. To me, G5’s doing the same thing. Any oversights are probably intentional, but the ones that are glaring mistakes don’t affect stuff like the show’s writing or the voice actor’s performances. If I’m not enjoying the lore, which is not the focus, then I’ll try to find enjoyment in the other shit that makes the show good.

I agree we shouldn't just consume a product just because of brand and just because the visual quality is good doesn't mean it's good your example with the last jedi is spot on it was made not for star wars fans but to just tell a story regardless if it respected lore or not G5 doesn't get a pass because it tastes nice it needs to respect what came before and continuity is one way of doing just that

Just because G4 has discontinuities, it doesn’t excuse G5’s lack of respect towards G4 because despite how many continuity errors there are in not just it’s connection to FiM but even with G5 itself, it damages and destroys what G4 set out to do and accomplished. As you mentioned with season eight in introducing new stuff out of nowhere for the purposes of keeping things fresh, that’s literally G5’s connection to FiM in a nutshell And keep in mind that I’m someone who loved the A New Generation film and does still but is very upset and disappointed at what it’s follow up content managed to damage my favorite show ever

Thank you for bringing up the simple fact that inconsistencies in the show are actually mysteries! I’ve been treating them as such and that has made me really come to put down my grievances and just enjoy the show as it is! MLP has always been for me an escape from reality. That involves suspending some disbelief for the sake of enjoying the characters and the plot. If you aren’t able to do that even just for a little bit then you’re biting off more than you can chew for a cartoon franchise for little girls and should probably find another IP to go crazy about. Besides, G5 has already shown that it is as committed to building strong lore as G4. The comics hit hard. I have confidence that the weaknesses in the show so far will eventually be addressed.

Imagine if they did not immediately confirm that G5 is a continuation of G4 even before the show aired and the fairy tale fairy tail like stories they have are actually lost history references uncovered throughout the show. There's more magic than just pony magic, some mundane and some dangerous but all still a part of the world G4 was not just ponies and the loss of so many species and to have no record nor reaction of such loss is jarring. Either it was a slow process and the ponies took note of such mass extinction or the disappearance was so sudden the ponies took note of such mass extinction. Question: what saved the ponies and only the ponies? would they have a record of that? Also, Celestia governed for more than a thousand moons (long enough for Granny Smith to go from filly to Old mare) and did not see such drastic change as extinction or world-ending events (total loss of magic globally) I say it again BECAUSE G5 IS A CONFIRMED CONTINUATION OF G4, G5'S LORE IS G4. Same world, same rules.

My biggest gripe with G5 is the awkward character writing (Hitch and Izzy specifically feel very off and sadly less likable than in the movie) and...the lighting/colouring. Seriously, the colours are so harsh and the lighting is so bland. And some characters are coloured in such weird ways like Sunny's discoloured eyelids and Sunny and Opaline's lips 😂 It feels like a weird critisism, but it really makes it hard to watch. I hope, like g4, the art of g5 will improve as time goes on.

While I don't hate G5, and people are more than welcomed to enjoy it or find enjoyment in it, my biggest issue with it is that it's connecting itself with G4 not out of genuine desire but for marketing. G4 obviously became a huge hit, surprisingly so, and Hasbro wanted to capitalize it but not put in the full effort. It's like you said, it's trying to be a direct continuation while at the same time being a full new generation but that's such a difficult task when G4 had some firmly established rules. Had G5 been straightforward it's own generation with no ties to G4, a lot of people wouldn't feel as though it's half-baked or ignoring what was set up in G4.

my issue with it is more that it feels...cheap. The characters seem to act very...well...stupid. Sunny feels like generic blank canvas now instead of having her sense of adventure she had in the movie. Zipp is the only one that seems to use any level of intelligence in the show. Even the voices feel like they are phoning it in. Misty seems to rush through everything she's saying and it seems more of a 'go with the first take' situation. I am not sure I am feeling any passion from the series. The movie I think did a wonderful job. Maybe too wonderful. There was a quality in the writing and talent that seems to be lacking in the series. I will give it a shot but I am not sure it will recover.

As much as I was really worried about G5 after TYT and MYM part 1, part 2 really got me believing in it again! All of the continuity stuff I really hope we get sooner rather than later. You can never tell when Netflix will just cancel their animated projects out of the blue. And then we will never get our answers if they are taken down too early. Here's to hoping the next g5 content we get is just as good as good as part 2! (And that Sparky gets much better as a character if we are keeping him around pls)

Exactly my thoughts, and some of the resolutions just make no complete sense. Like when Sunny and Hitch’s cutie makes got swapped due to Sparky’s fire, you’d THINK Zip would come to the realisation that “what if Spark hit you with his fire again, it may reverse it”. But no, instead the solution was to express your feelings about how wrong you were??????? - like, it’s a good message but how did Zip come to that conclusion???? At least with FIM it was bearable, but here it just makes me groan Btw I hate that fricken dragon. Literally feels like something that came out of coco melon. I prefer Flurry heart over that thing.

Right now G5 is still in its early stages which means it’s going to be a bit before these things start getting answered, but it’s obvious to me they do have a plan for what they want to do. People need to just be paitent and give them the time to get to it. I’ve been really enjoying this so far there’s a strong sense of continuity between episodes which I love d right away. Sparky feels like an important part of the show and the main characters treat him like one of the group. The way they tell the morals of the day has honestly been pretty unique. And the lore we have gotten so far is very interesting, especially from how Misty and Opal view it. Bottom line just be paitent and keep an open mind when the answers come.

@@fractalgem Once again this new series has only just started, if you really need a series worth of plot points answered within the first eight episodes that's your problem not their's. Megan Mcarthy is a member of the staff still for this series, it would be pretty astonshing if she did'nt make sure the continuity was tight when deciding on how to approach G5. Not to mention the head writter is Gillian M Berrow a Friendship is Magic writer who did some pretty good episodes of it too. I'm confident that all of the questions people are asking have answers, again you just need to be paitent and let them get to those answers.

I don’t think many people are upset because of unexplained plot points, I think a fair bit of people are upset that the show seems to disrespect everything that happened in G4 by pretty much erasing it. All efforts and conflicts on G4 have no consequence and are erased from history. If G5 didn’t have reference/relation to G4, I think most would just write it off as a mediocre attempt and leave it at that. But since the show desires G4’s appeal without necessarily using any of what made it appealing in the first place, we’re left with a half baked product that looks more like uncanny valley in terms of story more than a teen titans go scenario.

One of the reasons I very rarely dip my toes into theories on my channel is because of what you said at 5:30. If the writers don't care, I don't really care either. It can be fun to try and explain away plot holes but I've got no issues with leaving them be if fixing them is too much of a stretch. Though I will admit I've fallen off of G5 hard and I probably won't be trying to get back into it any time soon. Different characters, different sense of humor, different scope, different style, different production teams, it's just a different show all around. I have about as much reason to watch it as I do to watch a show from an entirely different franchise.

It is so, that I also believe that they'll explain some of these questions *at some point*, but my own problem with that is, that it's so fragmented. >The youtube show (which may be too hyperactive for many viewers, me included - and doesn't have a particularily pleasant style, just my opinion tho) explained how they got the crystal brighthouse. >The comics (which aren't easily accessable for many people that can't buy/import them) explained what happened to discord and canterlot >The movie set up a world but showed very little of it, it didn't need to explain the whole world in one go, but it could at least have given *some* indicator as to what state the world is in, in relation to G4. (beyond the brony-bait right at the start). Think about S1E1 of FIM; in the first minute, it's explained what equestria is, and who it's rulers are. It gave us a basic scope of the world, and then built on top of that A lot of my own frustration with the point "It'll be explained at some point", is that they had a movie, an hour long special, a KZbin series, and a whole season of a show to explain a single of our questions, but the only one that gave us anything was the comic, and those were made by completely seperate writers - because they know we want these answered. G5 is stewing in these questions before giving us something to care about as it's own independant thing. It latches itself so much to G4 and keeps digging itself deeper into G4s lore, so much so that we're now reasonably demanding some answers if they want to be so strongly connected to the previous show, and basically acting like a season 10, just with a timeskip.

G4 was marketed for older kids, kind of in the same vein as Disney movies, but that's what makes it family content - it's "for kids' but with mature enough storytelling that adults can enjoy it too. G5's writing after the movie is just.... not good. Not awful, but definitely not good enough to get me invested in the world, if it weren't for the G4 connections. Even the characters are SO different from their movie versions, worse versions of themselves, so that's not helping matters either. cautiously optimistic things will get better. I love this franchise and I want to believe in it.

also aside from the New Generation movie, the 3D animation looks ugly to me in g5. it's cheap, there's a lot of errors. Why does ALL animation have to be 3D now? I miss the polished look of 2D animation :( I feel like they're riding a trend that nobody actually asked for. no one saw that g5 was going to be 3D and said "heck yeah! So glad it'll finally be 3d, I hate 2d". nobody. G4 is going to look like a fairly polished show for a long time. G5's animation and real world references are going to date it so hard.

I wouldn’t call G5 preschool level. It’s not like it’s an actual show for developing minds like shows on Disney Jr or G3. I think it’s just important to remember that G4 wasn’t trying to be a show for adults. Like you said, it was a “family” show, meaning it was something to be watched with your kids. Of course G5 is trying to market to Bronies though. Hasbro would literally be losing money if they didn’t. But just because G5 is following up a show that adults doesn’t mean they’re trying to dissuade their adult audience. It’s just that the target audience is the priority and kids today aren’t watching Saturday morning cartoons; they’re watching videos on KZbin kids. Not liking G5 for its aesthetics or writing is completely valid, but just remember that it’s still My Little Pony, and must appeal to its younger audience first.

It IS purely entertainment, like you said in the video :) However... try watching a G4 episode and then watch a G5 one back to back. The moral in a G4 episode is clear, the resolution is a nice tidy wrapping-up of the episode, and the dialogue is realistic and charming. In G5, the moral is unclear and sometimes there isn't really one at all. The dialogue is clunky, forced, and dumbed down. In any case, G5 is what it is, and by its own merit, not a bad show. But when it's compared to its predecessor, and it HAS to be because of the connections.... it's hard to see it as anything but a downgrade. My Little Pony may be "for kids" but little kids enjoyed FiM's amazing storytelling just fine, it didn't need to be so simplified for them to understand and enjoy! But give it time. It may never reach any given brony's expectations, but it's bound to improve as it goes on!

I just can't stand the overall statement of the show being 'no matter how hard you work, no matter how amazing your achievements, everything you ever did won't matter because something worse will come around, and you'll be forgotten'. One single solitary loss is all it takes to end absolutely everything. Evil always triumphs inevitably. We had an IMMORTAL ruling Equestria for one thousand years, and within the span of apparently what a year or two after the new 'presumably' likewise immortal ruler takes over. BAM! That's it, everything is bad now, nothing anyone can do. If they had just kept it separate maybe things would have been tolerable. But right now it just feels like they're saying we were wrong for having ever liked G4 and in order to prove that we're going to actively and quite literally destroy it. All those time travel plots where horrible futures could have been avoided, well not this one! The apocalypse dust bowl ending was somehow less depressing than this. -.- Not to say I wouldn't be delighted if they did somehow knit everything together in a way that both makes sense and does not make everyone from G4 look like a bunch of failures. Just haven't seen anything to shake that feeling yet, but I'm willing to hang onto one last little nugget of hope for now. >.>

I think the amount of time is the real cause of controversy. Celestia reigned successfully for 1,000 years. Twilight's reign apparently fell apart within the same timeframe thanks to Opaline, after Twilight had managed to thoroughly unite the known MLP universe (along with a psuedo vassal state in the EQG universe) in a way that had never occurred before. If this was a matter of 10,000 years, I think the concerns the fandom has might not exist so strongly. However, as per my other post, I think we should give the writers time to pay off their plot beats.

I don't really share your view on the desperation, Rather I view it as Twilight succeeding in giving further generations a chance. but yeah, everything you ever knew will eventually die and wither away. That is life. Joy and happiness without tragedy is boring, story vise. So I personally quite like this outcome. It's when they write it, keep in mind talking about writing not reality so choices were made that could have been different ones rather than the unalterable outcomes of real life, badly. Rather than having everything go horribly the second we the viewers are no longer watching events they could have made it very clear that everything went bad well into Twilight's reign. At least for me that would have hugely softened the blow if everything went wrong after all her friends died, with her presumably being immortal, and feeling like she can't really make new ones now being the ruler of Equestria. That would make sense if the 'Magic of Friendship' failed long after the G4 finale rather than what currently feels like five minutes after. Give us a sense that Twilight ruled well and long but then came upon a situation that truly couldn't be solved otherwise. Which it's still possible they could do that. The dust bowl comment was a bit facetious. But suffice to say I would find 'no future', as seen in a dust bowl scenario in which everyone is dead, less depressing. Seeing something destroyed can produce a sense of apathy, a sense of comfortable ending. While seeing something 'corrupted', feeling like those doing so are intentionally saying I was wrong or stupid to have felt how I did about the thing they are now altering in what I find to be an undesirable manner. That makes me feel like its adding insult to injury. All things end, this is fact. But that doesn't mean I want things to be 'made worse' just because they'll all end inevitably anyway.

I do appreciate your take on G5 and bringing up the inconsistencies even in G4. However, this is just a personal take - considering that I’ve been a writer for 15 years and just my weird analysis thoughts - I don’t like G5, but for several other reasons. In terms of the writing and handling the execution of the story, it’s confusing. I’m not a “hater”, I’m just very frustrated over the moments that tamper with G4 and adds more plot holes; regardless of how others feel with G5, I genuinely believe this show has potential but it’s not doing what I’ve been trying to see for a year now. If a new generation possibly has to take 5+ years *just* to answer the lore while adding more of their unique worldbuilding, that’ll just make the fandom riot more. To be fair, at least they’re trying to make it entertaining but even for a kid’s show, I think that there still needs proper storytelling; with or without lore.

The only complaints I’ve had with G5 is just with the mystery‘s behind the „failed continuity“ so to speak with not having the answers yet. Just hope we will get the answers atleast some point. I do really like G5 and I’m gonna stick with for the long haul, though admittedly I haven’t watch TYT yet cause I really don’t like the art style. And with MYM chapter 1 I wasn’t a fan of the video game looking ponies but with Chapter 2 it got better, and like you said we got some answers though we did get more question regarding Opaline and what not. I hope when we get more episode in the future it continues to be something I enjoy. Side note: For me Starlight will always be best Pony but Misty is getting up there. Definitely a contender to battle Sunny for my pick of best pony for G5.

I would not have a problem with G5 if it didn’t link itself to G4. My biggest problem is the implications that the Mane 6 have died. That seriously hit me hard as a fan since season 2, imagine spending most of your life with these characters only to find out that nothing they’ve done matters and they passed away. @@QuantumHippologist Think it's more of a case that them holding things with their hoofs blatantly sticks out a lot more in the 3D environment. In G4's 2D environment they were able to have the legs/hoofs bend around objects in ways that you can only do in 2D so it looked like they actually had a firm grasp on whatever they were using. But in G5 because they can't do any of that the hooves just outright stick to objects as if they were magnetic and whenever they do hand gestures with them like Zipp twirling Pipp's microphone in MYM Chapter 1 it just doesn't help.

Bring the popcorn because I’m all in! 😂 I can’t speak for others, but I can certainly say why I wasn’t the biggest fan of Gen 5. GEN four of MLP really set the bar for the next generation. It’s kind of unfair because since we grew up with Gen 4 we expect the same amount of effort and lore and etc. Also the creator of gen 4 said its (gen 4) was more for everyone, and was written for everyone. This gen seems more towards kids. My 2nd issue is landscapes and locations. I understand questions will be answered later, but that doesn’t explain the locations in this in the show. If it really is following GEN 4, then I expected the locations to at least be a little similar. I know that things change over time, places change, animals evolve whatever, but since they were following GEN four I expected at least a little bit of similarity. I’m getting none of that.

For my own sanity, I treat Gen 5 like I treated Rise of the TMNT. I treat both as an Elseworlds style of story like Red Son to Superman’s continuity where drastic changes can be made and you can just go along with the ride because you can just ignore it being canonical altogether if you want to. But to be honest most of the writing seems rushed and unlike Rise it doesn’t have the crutch of “It’s so beautifully animated!” to give themselves a bit of leeway.

Another W opinion, I would like to form a parasocial relationship with you. I like G4 better than G5. But also to be fair, season 1 of G4 isn't exactly pinnacle of stellar writing. I do wish the KZbin series had a better animation style but I am actually enjoying the little short shorts for what they are. The series feels a bit generic(Opaline has a random new evil scheme per ep, Misty is a silly little goose, Zip somehow has more main character energy than Sunny) and I wish they played the full versions of the songs in the show(If they had Pip singing Where'd It Go over a montage of Zipp looking for the lantern it would have been dope) but uh....I hope the show comes into itself and is able to find its groove a tad more. I sort of feel like the KZbin series kind of understands its writing style more than the show does? Also, I feel like G4 ponies have held things in their hooves before, it's just way more prevalent in the G5 series. I know G3 and the 90s ponies held things in their hooves a lot. I simply choose to ignore it. If they couldnt hold anything in their hooves then the Earth Ponies would probably have the hardest lives. For Earth Pony magic, G4 never specifically said Earth Ponies had agricultural magic, they were just associated with it the most. I like to think that Earth Ponies were naturally better at growing plants but since it's not all showy like flight or magic, people don't think much of it until now. I wrote all of this out instead of doing my homework(due today), thank you.

There are a lot of reasons I'm not a huge fan of G5, but the one main reason is how it undermines everything that was built up in G4 in terms of what all the characters had accomplished in making Equestria and the rest of the world a better place. I get the argument that nothing lasts forever and world peace would have to fall, and I agree. My point is that it can't fall under Twilight's rule. Yes, I could just not watch G5, but I'm one of those people who just needs to know how they treated the legacy of FIM, and so I watch. But completely ignoring how G5 connects to G4, I have problems with it in terms of a lot of smaller things such as contrivances, plot holes, lack of depth for some, but not all characters, etc. A few small things here and there don't usually bother me, but if they are going to be there, then there needs to be enough good stuff to balance it out. Frozen for example is filled with plot holes and contrivances, but it makes up for it with excellent characters, fantastic humor, wonderful songs, interesting story, and fun fantastical elements. So despite it's problems, I love that movie because it has more than enough good to make up for the bad. MYM to me at least, doesn't have much to really get super invested in. It has some good stuff, sure, but to me it doesn't outweigh the problems. And what bothers me even more is that I can see the endless potential this show has, but it's not being taken advantage of. Ever since I was a tiny child, I’ve loved My Little Pony. From G1 to G4, I’d watched it all, (Even if I was a bit late to the punch-) and ever since, the franchise holds a special place in my heart. G5 however, remains iffy to me. I really like the points you made in this video about unanswered mysteries not being inconsistencies with the lore; however, I feel that such important fundamentals of “pony culture” have been truly lost. Like say, earth ponies having magic. The original point of having different abilities in the original show was that people are born with different abilities, but it’s what you make of what you have that counts!! Not the circumstances in which you were born. Now though, it’s been erased by giving them a form of magic. Aside from the lore though, the character writing is where I have the real issue. At the end of each episode in make your mark, each pony ultimately ends up how they started. For an example, Twilight often doubted herself and closed herself off to others; that was a fundamental part of her personality. Overtime, she learned to trust and care for others around her, and trust herself more as well. Sunny though, is a simple optimist with no sense of what could be potentially dangerous (Like not creating regulations for some kinds of magic to keep the community safe,) and in order to create conflict, they give her a quick problem, that ultimately changes NOTHING about her viewpoint, personality, or actions. My last main gripe with the show, (which is more a personal opinion based on my preferences, though small compared to lore/world building & characters), is the character designs. When I saw the cartoon version of the G5 ponies, I wondered how in the world they downgraded to such abysmal character models- Looking at Opaline feels as if they closed their eyes and chose 3 colors from the color wheel. Especially the utter lack of different 3D character models for the ponies. (And yea, I understand it was for marketability & profit, and that the G4’s Mane six all had the same base models. However, we still had some different characters every so often - Big Mac, The Cutie Mark Crusaders, Granny Smith, The Alicorn proportions, etc.) As of right now, I’m not happy with G5. Though I truly, truly hope that they can improve on their writing as this show does have a lot of unused potential! (Apologize if there are typos!!!)

My thing is, after the inclusion of so many dope creatures by the end of MLP, regressing even earlier than Season 1 Episode 1 with the EUP conflict really doesn't do it for me. One of my favorite parts about MLP is the fantasy elements with how they control the wheather and make the seasons themselves, and I just can't help but feel like G5 is... boneless. I get that they're "mysteries", but in regards to the different creatures Im not sure how many will come back given the more expensive animation, I guess we got a dragon so I could be proven wrong. BUT the real reason I don't like G5 (so far)... ...it's the quality. I could end up liking it, even if I dont like the premise as much, but it has to be quality. So far, I cant say Im impressed. The writing, character interactions, animation, stories.... they're just not great. It could very well improve and I really hope it does, but Im finding it hard to be optimistic as time goes on. Everyone wants to keep saying "Its early! Give it time!" but like, G4 was immensely fire from the start. And if it doesn't get better, I just see no need to force it for me personally. But definitely feel free to make content on it, Ill watch even if I stop watching g5.

Hey man, that’s cool. The collective of G5’s obviously not FiM. Maybe it’s because it’s only been a year, maybe it’s because the show’s direction has permanently shifted, but if it’s not doing it for you then it’s not doing it for you. First impressions are significant and given that it *has* been a year, even if that is a relatively short time compared to G4, that’s a pretty long time for things to be mediocre. Don’t hold out for something to be good if you don’t feel like it.

I just want to add in one thing about the lore. G4 itself wasn’t very consistent with how magic worked. Probably the biggest example I can think of is alicorns (cough cough Flurry Heart cough cough). Friendship is Magic itself was honestly pretty soft with continuity, largely because of a shift in showrunners about every two seasons (at least at the beginning, I left the brony fandom around season five and only came back about a year ago, so take what I say with a pinch of salt). It was really the characters whom made G4 enjoyable rather than the consistent world, at least for me. I think the only genuine complaint for G5 is that it started out like pre-Equestria, with all three types of ponies hating each other and no mention of other species (I know that G5 will likely address what happened to the other species, but still). Restarting everything that G4 did, which I consider pretty lazy writing. Even the Legend of Korra (which I’m glad you brought up, because despite what I’m about to say, I do think that G5 might end up similar to that), didn’t have the Fire Nation destroy everything for example. I understand full heartedly that complaint.

As someone who liked the movie and tell your tale (I kind of wish TyT was 10 mins per episode, but for the 5 min shirts they are, they're really good and are almost comparable to early FIM), I'm not a fan of make your mark since it appeals to a much younger crowd (which is fine btw, it's just not for me), and I'm not a fan of the comics since it focuses far more on what happened after g4 than I does with g5 itself. I get what g5 is trying to go for. By dividing g5 up into these different series for different people, you can achieve the largest amount of consumers, but I feel that dividing resources up like thus just causes all of the fans to be angry that the other parts aren't catering to them (this includes me btw)

Windiegos were obliterated in the G4 season 9 finale. Sun and Moon- always felt these would move naturally if Celestia and Luna died/transcended, etc. Their powers seemed to an imposition on the physical world, to control it. A bit like with Ponyville sessions vs. The Everfree Forest. Everfree Forest functions perfectly fine with its own clouds and weather without micromanagement from the ponies. In fanfics like Fallout:Equestria which do focus on a post Luna and post Celestia, they have the sun and moon following natural patterns after the deaths of the two Alicorns. But I do hope that the world building and lore improves in G5 with more dragons, griffons, zebras, etc. That's what made G4 cool even with the movie's fish people and other furry anthromorphs.

I have to hole heartedly disagree with you on this one. I am speaking from hindsight and this video is a year old but the fact that our questions go un answered until later is not really explaining the bad writing and contradictory story telling G5 does. The characters are not interesting, Opaline is not a villain, she's a side character who has no threat and continuously loses against ponies who are unaware of her existence. Her knowing Celestia and Luna, being a fire alicorn and then becoming a fire alicorn. The show lacks consistency. The fact that I feel like I'm watching Paw Patrol doesn't help but the fact is that G5 isn't geared to adults like G4 was. That means that they can quite happily retcon things that happen in their show because most younger audiences would have forgotten the information. Opaline being a stupid villain is the worst part. She is incompetent so Twilight need for the Crystal's make no sense as she is ignorant. That just makes a badly written villain with no attachment to Sunny.

So maybe I don't watch Tell Your Tale as I consider it too spastic and jerky to tell anything interesting, but Make Your Mark Ch2 on the other hand was funny, absolutely adorable and kept me intrigued. Make Your Mark Chapter 2 came out with 8 episodes literally not that long ago, and fans are acting like it's the end of the world. I was unsure how they're going to go with the direction of the story, but I still enjoyed the episodes very much. It actually felt more consistent compared to G4 for making call back on earlier episodes unlike G4 where most episodes felt really separate until the finale. For 8 episodes so far into the series, I like it a lot and I hope they continue and hopefully add some action down the line like what they did with the finale in G4, since that's one of the main reason why I love MLP so much.

I don't really see the windigo situation as a mystery tbh, if you think back to Hearths warming eve during the play imo it was shown that the windigos fed off the constant fighting between the tribes over a fairly decent length of time as all the tribes had at least somewhat of a infrastructure before the windigos came. not to mention at the time they still had to rely on eachother wether they liked it or not. and whenever had happened this time its quite clear that each the tribes had their own way to be self sufficient so no bickering with the pegsi about the weather, earth ponies for food, or the unicorns about the sun/moon (which is its own hellscape of lore lmao). so the windigos wouldn't really have any reason to show up if there's not constant conflict between the races. maybe i'm missing something or mis-remembering something (has been a hot minute since I watched Hearths Warming Eve tbf) but from what I remember and have seen I don't really see why the windigos are considered a plot hole imo.

I think the short episodes on KZbin are cute. However when I watched chapter 1 and two on Netflix my problem wasn’t really with the lore of G4 mainly… my problem was more with the storytelling and character development, like I really liked hitch in the movie but in chapter 1 it was really bad but they did better in chapter 2. And I think they made Sunny so perfect so it’s hard to see internal conflict or character growth or see how she helps the ponies around her without just straight up saying “ do this“ I also don’t like that they cut off some songs, like they will start a song and then fade it out before it’s even finished, and a lot of the songs are very pop, which I understand but at least let us hear them. But the relationship between pipp and zipp is too sweet, and has potential

Afterall, not every episode is gonna portray every character in the same light. You still got interest in MYM, it’ll probably get better for you with more episodes and room for character growth. G5 has also been a test for a lot of people as to if being in the fandom is just “their life.” Seems like this has happens a lot for bigger franchises. This fandom has only been around for 1 show generation really so the idea of saying “yea I only liked (x) generation” is new. Now as for what seasons people have watched and how much they stay up? Of course there’s a ton of differences there. But this is the fandoms first actual generation change. If I only ever saw G5, I wouldn’t have gotten into the fandom most likely… not being 10 years old would also have a big part, but that’s besides the point. I can’t pull the “yea look at all this content we’re making/the shows good” card anymore. My explanation of the fandom is getting longer every year, and the new generation is making people including myself really realize that the lives we live and the people we know can live separate from the show. This is a big ramble, but I think we’re gonna see a big shift in fandom activity vs show watching. Bigger than ever.

I honestly always believe I have bad taste since a lot of things I like are hated and nor very well received but after seeing this, I finally get it. I just enjoy things for reasons different to others most times. I enjoy G5 for the most part for the character interactions and their new way of getting me to laugh. Sure it's full of modern pop culture which are times makes me just want to revert back be being a sperm cell but I genuinely find those moments to be fun. Overall, I think G5 has a ton of potential and I haven't had this much fun with MLP in awhile and I'm going to continue to enjoy it untill it stops airing all together.

Tbh, I do like g5. But I also am disappointed with the writing. To me, there is a lot of potholes that need to be filled. And the more characters/lore they introduced, the more disorganized it looks. I ain't saying this to be mean, ut I think they should have a goal in mind followed along with steps about when to drop lore bits or something because dropping them here and there feels weird. Then it is expected they will expand on it in the next epsidoe. For example, the Tw light hologram epsiode I thought would be the finale. But then to have it drop like at the second episode really threw me for a loop. I wanted to hear more about what she was saying and more about Opline. Then to just move on and have at least some of the characters ignore the most important message feels so off. Again, I like G5. But I wish the writers would not just drop lore here and there. It feels misleading and makes me annoyed.

This is a very real problem with G5 yes. The lore about G4 is on a drip feed, and it’s stringing the fans along to keep them invested. I know why they’re doing it, and I personally like G5 outside the connection to G4, but once we have a definitive explanation for everything, I hope the original G5 stuff can still keep people around.

QuantumHippologist just to let you know, when you made this video I had no idea there are some people and some of the my Little pony fans who hate G5. I was really devastated, when I found out from this video. It comes as a shock to me, that there are some people and some fans who hate G5. And yes I get it, because there's lots of questions that the fans want and so forth. I know they hate that it takes a long time for any of these questions to be answered, I hate it too. However I don't care of what they think and so forth, I think my Little pony G5 is really good. It's as good just like how G4 was. Because if it hadn't been for my Little pony G4, we wouldn't have got G5. To be a new generation, and to be a reference to G4. And like what you just mentioned on this video, my Little pony G1 when it first came out. Kids were really hyped up to that original show back in the 1980s, since then and for those that remember it. Is a definite original classic, and in the 90s when my Little pony G2 came about, I'm so sorry you haven't seen it. But I remember seeing it back then when I was little, I was bored at it at first but I thought it was really good later on. When I heard a few kids talking about it, when I was in school. I should say my Little pony G1 and G2 are both original and old school classics. By the time when my Little pony G3 came along, I remembered I wasn't really into it at the time. I also believe that my Little pony G3 didn't get that much attention during the 2000s decade, I do remember the DVD sales of who knows how many my Little pony G3 animated movies. And I think there was no development of a new animated show for my Little pony G3, I guess G3 wasn't that great and just didn't take off. But when I found out the co-creator of The Powerpuff girls and who knows how many other animated shows, that became old school classics ever since when we were kids. And who knows how many other animated kids shows she worked on, had created or co-created my Little pony friendship is Magic. And it was the start of my Little pony G4, which became a phenomenal pop culture franchise to the entire world. Nowadays reruns of my Little pony G4 of both friendship is Magic and equestrian girls still gets the highest ratings on TV, and is watched again and again on Netflix. Heck even DVD sales are still going for my Little pony G4, Even G4 my Little pony the movie. For that movie to be shown again and again on TV gives one of the most highest ratings, as one of the best animated films. Just like the Disney animated classics, which also get reruns on TV. For Disney Channel, Disney Junior the channel and freeform. And just to let you know, I don't know what TV cable and Network shows my Little pony the movie of G4. I don't know and I forgot, but someday I hope to watch that movie on freeform. Because I do remember watching the Shrek movies, the despicable Me movies, and other animated movies on freeform. Besides the Disney movies, so I think it would be a great idea if freeform can do G4 my Little pony the movie as well. I really hope that G4 my Little pony the movie will make it on freeform someday, it will also get freeform to get one of the greatest and highest ratings from that animated classic as well. In a different design, it made some of them too cute and some of them weird. For example like they made Rainbow Dash's hair too big and to look like a mohawk, I thought that design was really weird. And the original design of Rainbow Dash and her hair was perfect, and unforgettable and also a classic design. And for them to tamper and change the look of Rainbow Dash, was really unexpected and unacceptable. My Little pony pony life was really unexpected to end G4, and some of the character designs were too cute and some of them were too weird. I just wish pony life didn't happen, and some of the ideas were weird too. Like combining modern technology with the magical things they had was really weird, because they didn't have something like that from the original show friendship is magic. So when my Little pony G5 came along, I really think that it was a very good idea to have modern technology stuff and Magic combine at the same time. For a totally new generation. So that way they can use some of those technology things, to help guide them. And try to bring back Magic, of what used to be like what was told from my Little pony G4. From friendship is Magic that is. I'm really hoping that they'll continue on with my Little pony G5, not only with modern technology stuff. But so that way the magic can be restored, and that every pony can use it. So they would think it's not really bad, just like what was told from my Little pony the next generation. At the same time I hope that the classic characters from my Little pony G4 will come back, just like Twilight Sparkle did. I really hope that pinkie pie, Rainbow Dash, rarity, Fluttershy and AppleJack will come back at some point during my Little pony G5. And they can be the mentors of the all new my Little pony G5 characters, I also hope that the classic characters from G4 will meet the G5 characters in person at the same time. I also hope if my Little pony G5 might introduce another animated show, where the new generation ponies can go through a mirror and turn into colorful humans. Just like from my Little pony equestrian girls, I really hope that the new generation characters can turn into humans when they cross through the mirror as well. I want to say my Little ponytail your tails is a continuation of my Little pony the next generation, and of course a new CGI animated series of my Little pony the next generation is already out. I don't know if it's being shown on tv, but everybody can watch it on Netflix as well. And it's a real continuation after the next generation movie and even after tell your tales. My Little ponytail your tails is way better than pony life. So I really like of how they're doing with my Little pony G5 so far, they're trying to make it as successful just like G4. So hopefully G5 can also be a successful pop cultural franchise at the same time, I can understand that of what the producers from Hasbro are trying to do. There's a lot of questions that they're doing at the same time, which is a little annoying to me and to some of the fans. But we'll see what goes on, as they continue the my Little pony G5 franchise. Honestly, my main problem with G5 is the ambiguous time skip. It seems weird to set up so much potential for Luster Dawn in The Last Problem only to ignore it and skip 200ish years later. I think it would have been more entertaining to see the new generation be a literal new generation, the children of the G4 character. We could see Luster Dawn, Flurry Heart, and some new characters during Twilight’s reign as ruler of Equestria, as well as older versions of the Mane 6 serving as mentors to younger characters. It would have also been a welcome addition to see Starlight Glimmer and the grown Young Six & CMC teaching Luster Dawn and her friends at the School of Friendship.

I don't hate G5 because of unanswered questions I more or less hate the execution and the entire premise. It wants to be divorced from a lot of G4's conventions but it also wants to present itself as a continuation of G4'S story. There's also a story that's infintately more interesting hidden away behind the tongue n' cheek stories of the mainline of comics, shows, and film. The fall of Equestria and Twilight's rule but I guarantee we won''t touch that.

Comment about the questions - things really started to fall apart when the creators of G5 admitted they didn't have a plan. Once that news got out, people like myself who supported the movie enthusiastically began to realize there weren't planned answers to our questions. That means they're not just questions, but that they're actual oversights with no plan to fill in those gaps. That's what is scaring the rest of us. I had no problem with the initial movie, and initially was excited to hear answers to these questions. But once news got out that there wasn't a plan when the movie was made, that they're essentially winging it, I began to shift to the other side. Another part is the lore that everything fell apart shortly after the last episode. It leaves a sour taste in our mouth that, for me, ruins the satisfying conclusion to G4. The fact that G5 was so careless as to not have a plan really upsets me, especially because I had been excited to go on a journey with the mane 5. As such I'm waiting to see if the show actually somehow fixes this mess before I attach myself to it.

I like G5 for a couple reasons, but one of them is something that I don’t think many people realize. This show has a lot of newer faces to the industry. Maybe I’m wrong, but as I watch the show I can already notice the animators, writers, and voice actors get better. They haven’t had much time developing this world or getting into a groove and yet we’re already being so critical because of a show before it. I have my issues with the show, it needs work, mostly in the writing depo. Stories feel fast when they aren’t fast, it’s weird and I hope it gets ironed out. The writing team has gotten better, but it’s still my biggest issue. They’re pretty good at humor though, so at least they got that on their tool belt

Fully agree with everything said. While G5 may have some writing issues and I have various nitpicks with it (the graphic, the overpresent social media topic, Izzy and other characters sometimes a bit more "dumb" or giving a too different vibe from their movie's selves etc..), it just started and I think it has all the potential to improve. Most things people complain about are things that could as well be resolved or answered to later and from my personal experience rewatching g4, not even that series startet THAT strong. One thing for example I don't understand from the complaints is saying that Twilight created the crystals to protect magic... I actually think it was made pretty clear it wasn't just for that? Or it wasn't her focus at least. Mixing up the series, the movie and the comic, the backstory is already quite clear on some sorts. (spoilers ahead of make your mark chapter 2 and comics): A pony named Opaline started putting seeds of distrust between the pony species, trying to rise the "racism" between them. To do this, she was probably involved into an accident where a unicorn hurt a earth pony. Something like that can't be just ignored because when someone gets hurt by someone else different fear and prejudices are easy to aliment. This slowly led to conflict and the return of Wendigos. Since making species trust each other again would be almost impossible (after still trying in many ways) without risking again magical consequences and since someone wanted it all for herself, Twilight created the three crystals, so that magic could still exists for everyone as long as they got along, but also in case they didn't there would be no terrible effects. Wendigos should be kinda made of magic, so containing the magic could have stopped them from appearing again. Twilight risked everything, but she wasn't so wrong seen the situation. But what she did left her less powerful, as she said it almost took away all her magic, and at that point she couldn't do much to stop the tribes from separating and stopping Opaline. I think this could be a fair partial reconstruction. Mixing up all the infos we got it's clear that Twilight didn't create the crystal to keep the magic in the world, but to prevent it from turning into a danger. Some of the questions left on the past are: -What exactly happened to Twilight? since the writers of g4 said she wouldn't outlive her friends and g5 made her say she almost lost all her powers, does it mean she died? Or did Opaline do something to her? -How did Opaline become an Alicorn? Was she always one? What is her backstory? And what else did she do aside trying to separate the ponies? -What kind of magical creatures and laws were conditioned by the creation of the crystals? And which are back now that they are actived again? -What about this magical barrier? Surely some things should be seen in the cartoon since the comics are semi-canon, but I wouldn't say things are so drastically messed up. And I also think it's quite fun to make theories while we wait for confirmations. For example, where are the other species? I think a good hypotesis is that they just left when the social conflict started, to not be involved. If ponies didn't stand each other anymore would they stand totally different species? Anyway, while I think some complaints are fair and everyone should have their own opinions, I don't think everything is so drastic

I loved the movie, but the episodic series are just... Flat to me. I do think it would've benefited from being an alternate universe. They could take more creative liberties and they could've made changes they did freely without having to worry about solving the mysteries caused by those changes. It would've also stayed connected to g4 like it needs to be if it was just an alternate universe. I don't think an alternate universe would change my dissatisfaction with the episodes if they remained the same, but that doesn't change the fact I think g5 would benefit from being set in an alternate universe. Of course, this whole statement could age like milk if the story goes somewhere where the mysteries are more beneficial than an alternate universe

Maybe I'm just cynical, but when a continuation of a show disregards, changes, or seemingly forget the canon or history of the previous series to me that doesn't ring as "a mystery waiting to be solved" as much as it's WAY more likely the show runners not giving a shit. Producers setting new rules and demanding new things to be in the show so they can sell toys. I don't think all the questions we have in regards to canon and history as it relates to G4 are mysteries or future stories waiting to unravel. It almost never is. They either forgot, didn't care, or didn't think we would care. There are way too many inconsistencies for this to be true. There's absolutely no way for them to resolve it all in any way that will feel natural. The main reason why I feel this way is because we saw how G4 ended. There was no Opaline, no Equestria falling apart without magic, nothing of the sort. Twilight Sparkle looked like a purple Celestia - freely using magic and everything looked fine, her friends were aging and dying sure but they didn't look like they just survived an apocalypse or lived in a world without magic. But in G5 Twilight's jedi ghost is a younger version than her Celestia tall-ass Alicorn form? Talking about Opaline? Talking about how she's sealed away all magic? What? How the hell does that even line up with what we already know? The timelines aren't matching up. Also, where the hell are all the ponies? Where is ANYONE for that matter? We went from a huge country with large major cities (with huge buildings, borderline skyscrapers), small townships and remote settlements, a large sprawling world with multiple countries and races and hundreds of named individual to.... 3 small towns with less than a hundred ponies total..??? I know, obviously, it's because of budget reasons. 3D animation is hella expensive. But in terms of canon, it just doesn't make sense. "I sealed away all magic - which caused an apocalypse, killed the majority of all people and turned all cities to dust lol get rekt pro gamer move L ratio'd haha" -Twilight "The Gamer" Sparkle, I guess. It's too haphazard, too random, I can't for the life of me believe that it's a mystery waiting for Sunny to solve it.

Believe me, most of the time I’m a cynical son of a bitch. Hell, I’m almost 100% sure G4 was connected to G5 at the last minute as a failsafe to keep old fans interested. However, given that MYM and (especially) the comics are mediums through which lore can be discovered and is currently being discussed, it seems very logical that they’re just holding out. I’m uncharacteristically giving them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this, if only because it’s still very early into G5 and they’ve teased at the idea of exploring this stuff (The questions at the end of MYM chapter 1, Twilight appearing in chapter 2, Discord appearing in the comics).

I hate sunny's character. She is both awful (she does so much stupid stuff) and boring. And changing how very basic things like how cutie marks work and what they mean, is just... Bad. I felt annoyed when Misty got her cutie mark. There was no logic behind it, that butterfly means nothing. I don't even know why she wanted one so bad. What did it mean to her? Timeskips are hard man. I get why they are done (as to show new generations or different eras and stuff), but sometimes they just trigger my chronophobia, making me have an existential crisis.

I actually like g5 a lot more than I thought I would! G5 is a “bronies accept something new” challenge, and I think it’s hilarious. All of my initial problems, if you can even call them that, are things that’ll get better with time. Like story writing or animation. I mean, call this a hot take, but I actually liked later seasons of g4 way more than the first 3. And the animation was so much better too! It’s easy to get impatient with a story like this one, especially with how they’re trying to pull it off. Of course the new writers are going to have a different idea of the previous generation and how the characters would act, and are going to write around those ideas. For now, I’m going to continue to cry and scream happily every time a character says “twilight sparkle” and rejoice every time she’s on screen. I also notice a lot of people being bored with chapter 2 of g5, but I think everyone forgetting that the story isn’t about the mane 5 right now, their story was already told in the movie. It’s about misty. Until the conflict with misty is resolved, the story will remain at a standstill. Everyone just needs to take a deep breath and remember: This is just the beginning!

Honestly, MYM Chapter 2 reeeeeally shouldn't only be about Misty. Otherwise, majority of the Mane 5 should probably be written out from each and every episode. Do you know why the writing of MYM Chapter 2 still feels iffy despite trying to be ambitious? It's because the writers still bothered to include every one of the Mane 5 in each episode as much as possible, causing the stories to have too much going on and feel unnecessarily bloated 😬 Episode 1: Only requires Pipp, Sunny and Izzy to operate its story. Episode 2: Should just be a Sunny and Hitch episode (allowing room for Sprout to be narratively useful). Episode 3: The best episode according to popular consensus. Why? Because it's a Pipp and Zipp episode focused primarily on them. Episode 4: Pipp and Sunny should have teamed up here. No need for a Sparky subplot. (The Izzy and Sparky subplot from Ep2 should have been its own episode. Remember the G4 episode when Pinkie Pie babysit the twins?) Episode 5: Write off Pipp and Izzy from this other Sunny and Hitch episode. I guess Zipp can stay in too, but even the concept of a cutie mark mix-up felt pointless when what mattered was really just Sunny and Hitch switching jobs, so... Zipp really has nothing substantial to detective about. Episode 6: Misty should have properly met all the Mane 5 in the previous episodes, so the sleepover here skips over these girls having 'small-talk' and gone straight to the episode's conflict in its 1st 5 minutes. Episode 7: Probably the only episode I'd let it stay as it is. Episode 8: The conflict should have only been between Hitch and Misty for Sparky. The other girls didn't need a lot screentime for this one. With lesser characters needed for each episode, the more time it has to develop its story because there isn't too much to keep track of. The stories could have been richer, more focused, and more impactful.

@@BuizelCream to be honest, I think they’re impactful just the way they are! Hell, if you don’t think g4 had any unnecessary episodes I heavily encourage you to rewatch it or maybe watch littleshyfim’s ‘everything wrong with..’ series. The scene where misty is laying by herself in her room crying to cutting straight to a shot of the main 5 looking over the horizon and being happy was… heart breaking imo. It made me really empathize with her. That why I say the story is about her right now. The way it’s set up, it feels intentional. And even if it’s not, still got me to cry and look forward to more episodes. That’s a win in my book. All stories have the potential to be better. but maybe that’s not the point? I don’t know. 🤷‍♂️

@@_meldrop_ Yea, I agree. The characters have the ability to be really good, but with the writing, it feels sorta disorganized. It makes me have a hard time understanding them and their whole story.

@@bjj9986 That disorganized feeling is actually because of the bloated content. Too much stuff happening. This is what led me to say that Chapter 2 needs to trim the content down by writing off some characters so it will have that focus. 🤔 Have you noticed there's a lack of breathing room in almost every episode? That there's always character dialogue throughout the 22-minute runtime? Not a single moment or a minute of silence (for the background music playing solo) was dedicated to tell the story. These scenes allow the episodes to have that focus because the characters can stop and contemplate internally whatever is happening to them in the narrative, thus allowing the audience to feel with the characters in the moment (without pausing the video). But we can't have this when there are other characters having their stuff happening elsewhere, so we cram them all in the episode, now making it bloated with content. 😬

@@_meldrop_ It's actually fine if watching MYM Chapter 2 focusing only on Misty. But if none of the episodes made you feel just as intensely for Hitch, for Sunny, and others, there comes the problem I cited. 😬 It's not about unnecessary episodes, it's about unnecessary content within each episodes that bloats its content. With too much stuff happening, each episode can't make room for the audience to have those reflective moments with the other characters that were supposed to star in their episode. 😬

After seeing more and more of make your mark I can say with my chest that it does get better, however s1 can be skipped entirely and honestly you wouldn’t be missing that much, that’s how kinda episodic it is, I do love how it is going foward and I can’t wait for more, but I know it’ll take awhile since the series was just updated not too long ago

It's not that they ignored the lore, it's that they entirely erased the lore and still claimed it was canon which is to spit in the face of everyone who ever watched the show. Imagine if Disney Star Wars completely erased the extended universe and then still claimed it was there and even ruined Hans Solo's name? It would be like that.

I really would have loved if they made it more for an older audience, not like adults but more of 10-14 sort of range. This new mlp feels like it’s made for 4-6 I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw fart jokes In it, I would have loved for a revamped main 6 (especially apple jack saying as she has been a character in every single generation) placed in a more adventure fantasy world I love the idea of different places for different tribes but making them more fantasy than modern would have been pretty cool. Having twilight being a earth pony but still using magic like making potions and stuff would have been amazing! I also loved the style the prototype g5 main 6 had and think that a show like that would be entertaining, an mlp world based on adventure magic and fantasy is all I wish for.

My issue is that I love G5 a lot but istg, any new mlp they come out with isn't gonna be better than G4. My explaination? 1: The storyline was better than the one now. Like, G4, it was about making new friends and go on new journeys and learn a lesson from each and every one of them (like jealousy, hatred, not getting along, etc etc), to the point Twilight became an alicorn that's also the Princess of friendship, and a few seasons later, they made the school of friendship. The new one (in that matter) was just about how things were about G4, and Sunny gets alicorn abilities just by getting the 3 kinds of ponies (earth, unicorns, pegasi), and makes friends with them along the way, *in 1 movie.* 2: Yes, we all want a continuation of G4, getting to see Luster Dawn, Flurry Heart, the cmc, lil cheese and the rest and we all wanted to see the new friendships and lessons we could've gotten, but again, Quantum is right. Not only would the mane 6 be a bit different, but they wouldn't really have much of a role. Like, Rainbow is the replacement of Spitfire, Pinkie and Cheese is the replacement of Mr and Mrs. Cake, Rarity and Yona swapped places so Rarity isn't even in town anymore (and I'm assuming, we all wanted to see Rarispike happen at some point too), Aj is *clearly* dating Rd anyway so she's honestly free but not all the time, Just bc of her nephew. Fluttershy and Discord are also together it seems and uh, she also seems free but she could also be busy getting more animals and taking care of em, Spike is still the assistant of Twilight, but no longer a baby dragon, but he apparently wasn't there throughout the years bc he didn't even know about Twilight's new student. Speaking of which, I honestly agree with everyone's theory of Luster being the daughter of Starlight and Starburst tbh. Same voice almost, same hair, cutie mark, name? C'mon, it's almost obvious. But technically, everyone is *mostly* busy and on their own path. 3: Everyone is questioning about the children of G4, and technically we got it. Some of the G4 background characters are used as bad characters or still background characters (Like how Sprout is oddly similar to one of the washouts). Although, apparently someone said Izzy was the daughter of Luna? She honestly looks nothing like her, but understandable bc of the blue and purple hues, so everyone can honestly stop complaining about that. Genuinely, the plot is good like G4, but theirs honestly never gonna be another movie or series like it. Like seriously, Twilight had to wait years for wings and Sunny gets them in under an hour (or in their time, only a year and few days?) Bro, it moved on too quickly, and it didn't give us barley anytime to even like Sunny. Sure, she did bring back ponies together, but Twilight brought all creatures together, and it just doesn't make sense. In all, I love the new one but I prefer the old one *And this is my general opinion*

I think g5 is an alternative timeline where twilight failed to have everyone be friends besides the rest of mane 6. That's why we see her before she became a princess taking over celestia and Luna.

G5 is taking the fundamentals of G4 and doing something new with them. The early promotional material said as much, especially looking at the movie plot that came out before New Generation came to Netflix. It said something along the lines of "we like the world that G4 created and we wanted to keep it going forward." That's it and, honestly, I think a new iteration of the same world is far more interesting than an indeterminate time jump into the future of a world we already knew.
