hate your nose? yeh, this is why. the normalisation of nose jobs and the media have convinced females (and males for that matter) that their perfectly lovely, perfectly functional noses are hideous. Too big. Too curved. Too crooked. Not straight enough. Too bulbous. Too thick. TOO BIG. When what is a nose really? They’re not, in fact, useless pieces of flesh in the middle of our faces to cause us grief over our appearances, they are FUNCTIONAL PIECES OF OUR BODIES. We NEED our noses. And we need them to work. We need them to breathe. To smell, to TASTE for that matter, to rid our bodies of mucous. When did noses become nothing more than an aesthetic feature of our appearance?
Our bodies don’t do things by accident (usually), and the shape of our noses is no different. Your nose was perfectly made for your face, and handed down to you by your ancestors. Your nose tells their story. Is your nose wide and short? Look at your genetics - maybe your ancestors came from a hot climate where they needed this shape nose to breathe easily. Your nose long and thin? Perhaps your ancestry comes from a cold climate, where your family needed thin noses to warm up the cold air before circulating it through your sinuses. Have you got a bump or hump on the bridge of your nose? Then you may have what’s known as the ‘aquiline nose’. This nose has only recently become ‘unattractive’, and for the majority of time in Europe, was considered the most ‘desired’ nose shape.
Your nose isn’t ugly. If it works, and you can breathe through it, PLEASE don’t feel like you need to change it. You’re bloody perfect.

Honestly I was shocked when she showed the comments about her nose. Not only are they horrendous, but they caught me off guard because Ive literally never noticed it. I've watched a good amount of her videos and never even thought about her nose. The broken nose thing is a mix of "so you feel better about getting surgery to correct it" and "It's an objective flaw", so it's justified". The only plastic surgeon I've ever went to used the same exact technique. I was 16 and wanted a nose job but was insecure about it, and he kept insisting my nose must've been broken to be this crocked because the bridge is too flat to be natural bla bla bla The thing is that I'm neurodivergent and ultra-anxious, so when he started avoiding talking about potential bad results, I was immediately out lol

It's easier said than done. How do you want me to not worry about it when people literally create an image of you in their mind based on the way you appear to be and paint you as an evil ugly person? But having that confidence instilled in me about myself made being called ugly not matter, because it was only that person’s opinion. It made me look at myself and find things about me that I loved and I love my face and especially my nose because my mother loves them and she always told me so.

One of the reasons I appreciated Encanto so much was because it was the first time I'd ever seen a wide, bulbous, downturned nose - my nose - represented so distinctly on a Disney heroine before (and all of the women in the family too!) The homogenous presentation of facial beauty for women is so pervasive and normalized in our media that seeing unconventional beauty depicted in art and entertainment as a beautiful, ordinary part of life instead of something to shine a spotlight on and gawk at has been more profoundly validating than I realized it could be!

Thats it I'm emailing my surgeon and canceling my rhinoplasty surgery. This is what I've been needing to hear. When I started this 4 year goal of sitting down with the cosmetic surgeon to fix all my flaws I felt such accomplishment when I was finally right where I needed to be. as I slowly progressed into getting clearance letters I started to Resent the process specifically the part where I was required to go seek a psychological evaluation. That's when I then started really thinking more about my mental health and how I truly have nothing wrong with my body, there was nothing physical wrong with me.. I just wanted to appear better looking for people that didnt no me at all. When in reality if I was ever to change my appearance I probably would never see the resemblance of my families physical heritages in myself anymore and that realization broke me. Because family means everythint to me. Anyways thank you again for this enlightening video!

I actually had rhinoplasty because I was insecure about my nose all my life. I really like the way I see myself now. But surprisingly nobody noticed the difference. They just see me like I was before. The change of your nose may look better in pictures - but what people really see is how you are in real life, how you speak and act in general. That’s awesome!💗 I’ve never liked my nose, and I’ve fantasized countless times about getting a nose job (as if I could ever afford one, lol.) But a few years ago, I started telling myself it’s way less expensive to spend time learning how to love yourself, just the way you are. And more valuable, too! If my loved ones & other people around me tell me I’m pretty just the way I am, it would benefit me more to just believe them and leave my face alone. To me there was a changing moment when I was an exchange student in England. My host family's little brother draw me a picture with a big nose and titled it "You are beautiful". It was the first time someone simply acknowledged it and it encouraged me in welcoming my nose as something that still can be beautiful, even though it is bigger. I have german ancestry too, in fact my nose is similar to my great grandad's (he was German). I think the more i learn about ancestry and genetics the more i'm slowly learning to like my nose! Also totally feel you on the nose piercing! I actually got my nose pierced in 2010 but my nostrils are so thick my nose kept rejecting it and (somehow!!) pushing it out!

I wish I saw this when I was 16. I’m now 34 and had a nose job at 21. It’s very nice, no side effects and I fit it better with todays beauty standards (not entirely, but better). Same here. In my youth I often heard silly comments about my bumpy nose, was compared to an eagle or Harry Potter's Snape. It hurt me a lot, as well as comparing myself to all the omnipresent pictures of supermodels. So i changed it at 21. After still maturing in my 20s ehat bothers me now, is that my children will probably inherit my 'real' nose. They will look different from me and maybe at a certain age start asking questions. As their future mother, of course, to me they will be the most perfect beings in the world. So what if they arr unhappy with their features, as well? How could I stand up as a role model if I have taken the easy path in my youth? Hopefully I will have figured it out until then. On the other hand I don't really regret the surgery. It was quite subtle and I am still incredibly happy and healthy with the results. But it has taken away a tiny, tiny bit of my ancestry from my face which makes me sad at times.

I've always wondered what will you do when you have surgery and realise your problems haven't gone away and your insecurities are still there. I have a bigger nose and I still have a man that loves me and flying me out to Europe this week. I have my own business and properties. I 've never understood the obsession with narrow noses. Of course this is very subjective, but I absolutely prefer wider nostrils. I think it's cute, feminine and it softens the facial features. Even bump can be definitely attractive.

I love bumps on the nose, especially with the side profile. The absolutely massive ones do admittedly look a bit crazy, but those come from a broken nose so thankfully that's not natural. I just like facial features with a bit of character, it makes the person look so much more unique and interesting, and I think that's beautiful.

I am Africain and one day I took a test online that, if you provide a picture of your face, supposedly tells you if your proportions are "perfect" enough and if you're beautiful or "ugly". The IA labeled me as ugly and one of the reasons it gave is that my nose is "too wide". Made me feel insecure for such a long time. I'm glad I made peace with my nose now. African noses are beautiful. And my nose is exactly like my little brother's nose so I love how you can immediately tell we're siblings when you look at us.

I have a very asymmetrical nose- nothing about it is 'beautiful'. One nostril is higher than the other, my septum is long and curves to the right, and I have an enormous bump on it. My father has even mocked my nose in front of me. I sobbed when you said that a roman nose was once considered very desirable. It was the first time anyone said my nose was anything but ugly. Honestly, I love Roman type of noses and I always say it to everyone. I mean, there are other noses I like, but I find that type of nose specially attractive on both, men and women. I dated a guy with a perfect nose for 6 years, yet the next guy I liked had that beautiful Roman nose and a bit bulbous at the tip. He rejected me hahaha, but I think my ex was attractive as he was, and this guy although very different looking was equally attractive physically.

I am in my 40's and I have what is generously called "a cultural nose". It honestly took me until my own daughter was a teenager for me to feel okay with my face. When I see my features on her face, they are beautiful, because every mum thinks that her daughter is the most beautiful princess to ever walk the planet. *INTENSELY* needed this. My nose is and always has been my number 1 insecurity. I have never met anyone with a nose that looks the way that mine does- I am someone that doesn't have a particularly large nose, but the tip of my nose is very rounded/bulbous/ *IS* on the larger side. It's not something that contours super well, either. My nose is definitely wider as a whole than what I normally see as well. It has definitely been a battle, but I do hope it makes at least one or two people feel better when they see me. Maybe someone else has a unique nose like mine and seeing mine makes them feel a little bit less alone. I might be biased, but I think the contour placement for our kind of nose can be particularly tricky. I still don't feel like I've got my contour *perfect*, but after over a decade of trying different techniques, here are a few tips that could help: - unless you're trying to minimize your bridge too, focusing the majority of contour on the tip is going to really help balance the width of the tip and the bridge. If you contour your bridge to the same degree, the tip will end up looking propotionally larger. Sometimes I even will apply a slightly lighter color or blush across my bridge, which also helps add to the illusion that the tip is more "proportional". - when I apply a little bit of contour on the underside part, I either leave a thin strip in the middle bare or I apply the contour in a v-shape. This is hard to explain, but keeping the placement of those contour lines more vertical and less horizonal is going to add to help elongate a little bit which will in turn de-emphasize wideness. Adding that v-shape contour will lift the tip a little while not shortening the nose. -I like to apply a skin tone or one shade lighter concealer right outside where I've contoured on my tip, and then I feather that out to the side of my nostrils. This helps further the illusion that the boundaries of the nose tip are in a different place than they actually are. What I generally do is: apply two vertical lines on my nose tip starting where my bridge ends. Apply a small v-shape of contour on the bottom of my nose tip connecting to the two vertical lines. Blend that out. Apply a tiny bit of concealer right outside the borders of where I put the contour earlier. Blend. Very precisely highlight the center of the tip in a thin but short vertical line. I know this was really long and probably kind of hard to follow but I really hope it helps someone lol

I’ve been told multiple times that my sister and I don't even look related, and it’s true. It’s like she took all the “good genes” and I got the “bad ones” 😂. She looks like a model. I have my dad’s side’s giant nose and small eyes. But when I was getting my hair and makeup done for my sister’s wedding, the stylist said I looked like I was from the renaissance and with my hair I kind of looked like Sansa. Biggest compliment I’ve ever gotten after years of bullying. Now when I look at myself, I still get really self-conscious, but I love that I have my dad’s slate-gray eyes and my grandmother’s nose, who came from Belgium; my mother’s side’s lips from Switzerland. I’ve been told separate times that I look like my dad, mom, grandma and aunt--if I look like all of those people combined, I feel beautiful.

Gisele and Hailey have both (*”allegedly”) had nose jobs though. They didn’t get cookie cutter Barbie noses and kept their nose bumps but they both have had very subtle tweaks on their noses. Almost every celebrity you can think of has had a nose job, whether their nose is “standard” or “perfect” or not. I think all the women shown in this video are beautiful before and after their noses changed, and I’m glad Hailey and Gisele both kept their noses as prominent and unique features of their faces, unfortunately however, if you really look and compare photos, they both have had minor nose jobs…just underscores your point even more that plastic surgery is so insidious that we can barely even spot it anymore.

I have an aquiline nose and for the majority of my life, I was made fun of for the shape of it. Even a former friend of mine in my teen years told me something like "Your nose looks like a bird's beak when you laugh", which made me SO insecure that I was scared to smile genuinely after that. The funny thing is, that I NEVER had any problems with the shape of my nose until I was introduced to society's beauty standards. After that, my whole mind was spiralling around my "ugly" nose (even though it's simply different than what is considered "beautiful" these days). When I was fifteen I seriously considerd getting a nose job but now I am proud to say that I overcame my insecurities because it's part of my ethnical background (my parents are from the far Northeastern parts of Turkey near Georgia) and I have nothing to feel ashamed about.

I remember as a kid always finding something really beautiful about those "greek" or "roman" sort of noses, I just remember in my early memory that being one of the first facial features I thought most beautiful, and I still do. oh yeah I remember finding out about hip dips. I read that somewhere looked up what it is. Was like oh that's my hip. Wait this is considered ugly? no way I'm too old for this trend crap (I'm in the beginning of my 20s lol). I would have never ever consciously looked at this part of my body or someone else's and judged it. I still can't figure out who zoned in on someones hips and was like: yeah that doesn't look great better tell people not to have that. The only reason I ever wanted thigh gaps was to prevent chafing haha. But a quick look up told be its more your bones structure than body fat so I gave up on that immediately. The only beauty trend I follow is 11 line abs because that's realistically achievable for me if I focus on my eating habits and work out a bit. Both things that are healthy (in moderation of course). I like it and don't have to rip a limb out to get that look.

I really loved this video. I'm Middle Eastern (Persian) and growing up I was surrounded by friends/family and people I knew from my culture who would get nose jobs. I actually never had a problem with my nose until my teenage years, when people I knew started mentioning how easy it would be to "fix" my nose and how quickly I would be able to recover/feel more confident by doing so. I ended up going to like 5 different surgery consultations before I realized that it was not something I truly wanted to do. I'm in my early 20s now and am insecure about my nose still at certain angles, but I know I made the right decision. I carry my heritage with me in my nose, dorsal hump, unevenness and all, and it makes me proud when people tell me I look Persian from my nose structure, even if my nose is not the most "accepted" standard right now. When it comes to permanently altering your facial features it’s very important to do a lot of inner work to ensure you’re not doing it simply in order to follow a trend, because beauty standards DO CHANGE. Barely 20 years ago my features were not considered optimal. I had large lips, a small nose, and curly hair, which in Asia wasn’t preferable. I would try to purse my lips or straighten my hair in order to feel better about myself, because kids would ask me why my lips were so big, why my hair was so “unruly”. I am so, so, glad that social media did not exist when I was a teen, because I might have felt a lot worse. And now? My features are celebrated. People wonder if I’d had lip injections and comment on how ‘dainty’ and ‘princess-like’ my nose is. They love my hair, and now call it ‘thick and luscious’. (I am aware this sounds like I am praising myself but I’m trying to make a point asgahajak ok moving on) Because these same features they’re calling cute and pretty were the EXACT SAME FEATURES they were calling “rubbery” and “smashed” just twenty years prior! Imagine if I’d undergone plastic surgery then, just to fit what people think beauty is. I shudder.

I have full lips which I hated when I was young, and not the norm in Asia 20yrs ago, and now I think its funny so many women want full lips these days and have surgeries. I’ve always been into classical art and that helped me appreciate my long, narrow, slightly humped aquiline nose…until pretty recently. The adorable upturned noses of IG started making me feel very iffy about my own to the point that I’ve wished a couple times that I could have one too (though I can’t afford financially or health-wise to go under the knife). I was in a car accident when I was 7 yrs old (on Christmas Eve) that ripped my nose halfway off completely through the septum and one nostril also broken in several places. I was operated on as soon as they could but the incident had effected my nose since and I was always made fun of throughout school for it, kids not knowing what had happened. I always hated it and couldn’t breathe. I finally had got the reconstructive surgery to breathe I needed at 24 but still have never been happy with how it looks. My family says it looks fine but mentally I just can’t believe them. If I had the money to get another surgery with the best surgeon I could find maybe I would. It’s been a lifelong struggle but your videos always make these situations feel less heavy! You are an angel! God bless you and everyone! We are all children of God and were each uniquely made! 🤍

This is kind of morbid, but it's something that helps me sometimes, maybe it will help you. If you feel bad about your face, thinking about how some people were born with facial deformities that couldn't be fixed, or had terrible accidents that really messed them up makes me feel grateful about the features that I have, flaws and all, and lucky that everything went right for me to look pretty normal and what some would even consider attractive. Seeing those people overcome their unusual features and doing their best to stay positive and enjoy life to the fullest makes me feel ashamed about nitpicking little silly things about my face or body, which those people might be so happy to trade. You just gotta remember that there is so much more to life than how you look, and no matter how much you wish something was different, it's not going to magically change. So, just get over yourself and pursue your dreams and do something amazing! Focus on having an awesome time in this life instead.

High nose bridge, yes, but not one that is crooked or has a bump. Asia as a whole still prefers small noses like in western media but with the added addition of nose bridge because a lot of Asians are born with “flatter” noses. Let’s not misinterpret this. It reminds me of the aegyo sal aesthetic. It’s a little puff under the eyes that is youthful and cute but westerns interpreted this to mean asians like eye bags (that can make one look older/tired). The beauty standards are hard across the globe. It’s not as simple as saying asians want what westerners want and westerners want what easterners want and we should all be happy because it’s desirable somewhere. It’s an oversimplification and not entirely accurate.

I realized beauty varies by region in early high school. I think I’d be considered an average girl here in the states but all the Japanese foreign exchange students thought I was incredibly beautiful and told me if I were to go to their school in Japan everyone would think I was gorgeous because of my very fair skin and “small face”. I’ve always been made fun of for my skin tone in the states for being pale. I’d be called pasty, Casper, and the typical names for someone fair skinned but they would carry umbrellas when they went out to try to prevent any tanning. I never did figure out what they meant by small face though lol

I’m Japanese and I used hate my nose! My nose is so small and I always wanted to have tall, straight nose! Then I moved to US and all the sudden I get compliments on my nose. It’s interesting how different what culture can really shift the view of the way we see beauty (and of course so much more) we are all influenced in someway and I’ve learnt to love my nose now! I have a natural "acceptable nose". Tiny, straight, looks cute, BUT I CAN'T BREATHE PROPERLY. I get injections from the Dr. in my nostrils to constrict the vessels so that there's more space for me to breathe. These 'perfect' noses are definitely not healthier. May look nice, by today's standards, but very impractical. A nose like mine should be seen as a health issue, because it is.

You have no idea how timely this is! I was just bemoaning my large german nose last night and my husband had to talk me off the rhinoplasty ledge once again with reassurances that he loves me and finds me beautiful no matter what I look like. I think once a year I feel the urge to change my large nose- maybe even more often now that filters and rampant nose jobs are constantly being shoved in my face. I'll definitely be saving this video to watch every time I feel that horrible little voice rise in me, telling me I'm not good enough unless I change. Fuck anyone who doesn't like our noses! And fuck that nagging inner critic that society constantly feeds. We've got good functional noses and more important things to care about!!

I have a roman/aquiline nose with a hump on the bridge. Never had an issue with how it looks, but people seem to do. Yesterday I was working (retail) and a rude ass customer pointed at me and told a coworker of mine "I had a nose like hers and even worse but I had surgery and they made it pretty and small", I really held my tongue there because I wanted to say "sad they didn't fix your rudeness". My nose fits my face perfectly, I'm not one to fit in with beauty standards.

I learned something new today that I have a Roman nose. I’m Puerto Rican and rarely see this nose on my other family members with as big as the bump at the ridge as others. This perspective might be from staring at my own nose too often and stretching the actual reality others see from my nose. But absolutely changed my perspective in how these noses were viewed as beautiful and desired at some point. Like almost tearing up with how people change their views in what is defined as beautiful

I've always been insecure of my nose. I'm Chinese with large/wide nostrils, a bulbus tip, and a really flat bridge. It's super hard not to get caught up in the toxic beauty standard of the west but also the east so I just feel ugly wherever I go, especially since plastic surgery in Asia is a lot more hardcore than in the west. I remember a time where I said I wanted a nose job to a classmate and what she said to me was: "you would look weird with a different nose." and tbh that gave me a reality check. From time to time, I play around with my nose by pinching it to look slimmer and trying to get a pointier tip, but the more I played around and looked at my facial harmony, it looked downright weird. So I guess my classmate was right LOL I legitimately look like Ollie London if I were to slim my nose and whenever I do contour a nose bridge, my nose looks too prominent against the rest of my features. One thing that did help me feel better about this insecurity was recognizing that my nose represented my mom. If she was gone, I'd still be able to see her whenever I look into the mirror. And I guess as a bonus, it was cool to see that my grandmother from my mom's side also has the same nose as us!

I want to meet him so bad but it's obviously impossible. With my nose I'm carrying a piece of him with me forever and I think that's comforting.

I personally think that being insecure about something is indicating that there is something wrong with the way you perceive yourself rather then the way you look, so instead of giving in into your insecurities and altering your outer appearance to fit the image that others made you think you should look like, the focus should be on learning to free your mind from their crooked expectations and accepting yourself the way you are. Getting off social media is something that helped me tremendously, you don't realize how much power it has over your self perception till you quit it, its just a bubble detached from reality where everyone photoshops themselves to deaths, and honestly it's so stupid if your whole life revolves around your looks

Whenever I feel insecure about my looks I watch these videos. I have gotten a lot of comments about my nose. Now, my eyes and lips are a trend but my nose isn’t. I personally think all my features work together in harmony. I’ve watched enough plastic surgery videos to know that if you mess with your nose, all of your features will look ‘’off’’. I love that you mentioned where our nose shapes come from! I’m more Indigenous than anything and I like that my nose reflects that. I also like that you pointed out the eurocentric standards. I haven't always been insecure about my nose. A few years ago a girl that I had gone to school with commented about how narrow and big my nose is, and it really got to me. I have been sort of insecure about my nose ever since. Recently I have been able to start to love and accept myself, which really improved my mental state. At 21 I got a nose job. Over the years I've had my eyes, lips, breasts, nose operated on. My nose is the surgery I regret deeply. They fail to tell you when u have the surgery so young that your face changes and you are better waiting until you are in your 30s for any facial surgery. Although at the time I loved my nose, once I hit my 30s it started looking tiny compared to my more mature face. I recommend anyone considering surgery to wait until your 30s. For sure

With a good therapist, you can gain confidence and learn to love your nose. I’m still in my 20’s but when I was younger I had many physical insecurities that I learned to overcome with time. So it’s possible. Don’t let society, influencers, brands dictate the way you should or should not look. It’s not worth it 🙏🏾 And if this can help you feel better or give you hope, I have a bump on my nose, I was insecure about it, but now I love it! So can you 😊

Something I didn’t know before having a nose job is it takes an entire YEAR for all of the swelling to go down. While I don’t regret having mine, I spent a whole year hating it even more because the tip was bigger than before and really bulbous. It can also take up to two years to fully dissipate if you have thick skin on your nose. Where these celebrities hide out when their nose is a fat potato during the first several months is beyond me.
