Think back to your first romantic relationship where you were deeply in love with someone, and they wrote you a love letter. Did you read that letter just once and then put it on the shelf never to read it again? Or worse, did you just read a bit of it before putting it on the shelf? No, you most likely read it several times immediately, and then re-read it frequently, probably at least once or multiple times a day. We should treat God's Word as a love letter to us, although actually it's even so much more than a love letter. If we're truly in love with God, we want to read His love letter to us. Much the same as mentioned in this video, but just a twist on that angle, which when I think of it in those terms, helps keep me reading His Word daily, with zeal and seeking to gain some new tidbits of information/insight which I didn't see before.

I've been married to the same woman for 23 years. We have a strong relationship. I travel for work and we're often a part. There are days we don't talk and there are days we talk briefly and often about something other than ourselves. Part of the issue is that I don't like talking on the phone. That doesn't mean I don't love her. And it doesn't mean our relationship is less than it should be. I love my parents, I don't talk to them everyday either. It's not surprising that many find it difficult to read the Bible. Relationally, it's heavily one-sided; the reader does most of the work with little benefit -other perhaps, than the feeling of having accomplished reading the Bible. Second, reading the Bible is a slog. Much of it is unrelatable and dry. And often we are already familiar with the stories having read them or having had them read/told to us ad nauseum.

I heard a priest once say "fake it till you make it." I bought a booklet with the daily Mass readings in it for this year 2024. I started my day reading the epistle, gospel and psalms for the day. Now I look forward to that and am constantly looking for more and more ways to spend time with God. It's wonderful.

I used to struggle with this issue because the Bible seemed overwhelming to me, and I didn't know where to start. 3 years ago I prayed to learn the Bible. The other part of my prayer was that, if there is a true religion or denomination, please direct me to it. Shortly thereafter, and still to this day, I have a fervent desire to read the Bible, to get to know Jesus and my heavenly father. I never found the one true religion or denomination I prayed about, but i found Jesus, and I cant wait to meet Him and to be in his presence for all eternity. So my advice is to earnestly pray to get to know Him, and it will happen. I am excited when I read the Bible. Every time I read it, I learn something new and make new connections to something I previously read. I could be reading the same chapter that I've already read, but there is something new each time I read it. It brings me great joy every day. Best wishes to all.

Bless you. Remember that religion is the one sure thing that will crush a person’s faith. Worship where you feel comfortable and avoid the politics of it all. People ask us what religion we are and we say Christian, yeah but are you Methodist, Baptist - what? Iike the analogy that i once heard in a derek prince sermon : the idea is that if you had someone that you loved dearly and intimately - a child or wife or husband or sister mother father brother etc.. and they were not physically present (whether in jail or in another country or passed away - whatever) and a mailman knocked on your door with a huge stack of letters from them and said "here, these are from such and such"; you wouldnt just take them and say "oh thank you" and then place them on a shelf or dresser somewhere and let them gather dust. Listening to the Bible using an ‘audio’ Bible really helps me follow the verses. Just keep being honest with the Lord about your weaknesses relying fully on His Holy Spirit to help and guide you along. He will never give up on you. Don’t feel guilty and just relax and mosey along the path He has given you. You’ll be ok. The only guarantee we have is Jesus and we can rely on Him and Him alone! I’m with ya in the Spirit!

As one who struggles with this issue, one method I often use is to choose a 'theme' or a character trait I feel I'd like to develop & grow in (humility, wisdom etc - not popular preaching topics these days!) and go on a treasure hunt through the bible for characters who displayed such strengths & scriptures that teach on the subject. Mine it for all its worth, extracting all it's wisdom & nourishment and, most importantly, asking the Lord to go on my journey with me, to draw close to me as I pray & invite Him to speak to me & give personal insights. Your reason for motivation reminds me of a testimony I once saw. Was years ago so not sure exactly where I saw it, may have been even on TV. A man had a dream where he was an observer in heaven and I think it was referring to the 24 elders. He said they constantly praised and worshipped God. Their motivation was when God revealed to them something about his nature and they praised him for how glorious it was. God then revealed something else about his nature and this process continued on and on. This tells us there are amazing things and revelations from God to last through all eternity. The Bible reveals God's nature to us so these revelations cause us to praise God which motivates us to read more for the next revelation.

One thing that can help with this: i have a 365 day Bible with reading for every day of the year (except Feb 29th). It covers the whole Bible in a year. It has 2 OT chapters a day, some psalms, one or two proverbs, then half a chapter of NT (or a whole chapter, depending on its length). I recommend doing this, cause then you get to read a little bit of the gospel message, and a little of OT story each day, some prayer with psalms, and proverb wisdom. Do this for awhile and you develop a routine. Another benefit to reading out of this Bible and bookmarking where you are is it reminds you what day it is lol

Very good.God wants to be pursued, wanted, loved above everything else. If a person has been forgiven by God, they will love God. The main problem is that people become content and comfortable in their sin and completely ignore that someday their will die. FYI - I have a personal relationship with the Divine through Jesus, but I don't read the Bible because when I need any guidance I see people like you on KZbin appear or I freely open my Bible and that's always helpful and totally relevant to any situation I am facing. I do not pray for anything either as I know God knows what I would like for myself and others so I don't really see the point - I only doing things to help other people without any expectation of recognition or reward which I know is always what He wants. I asked Him for more guidance on what He wants from me a decade ago and He gave me the Guidelines of Problacism which I've put on-line for everyone to see. I also worship Him in an unusual way: rather than go to any 'church' on Sundays, I go for a 5 mile walk into God's nature and pick-up litter and tidy everything I see that needs it. Consequently, I am greatly blessed as I live a completely contented life entirely of any anxiety or fear.

Last year, i decided to focus on God 24/7. I ditched everything, that took my attention from Him - hobbies, Netflix, games, movies. And amazingly my prayer and bible reading took an about turn. His Coming is the fulfillment of all that was prophesied in the great book of Revelation, so the last "Salvation" He brought the whole truth, the way for eternal life. So the "victorious" ones who will receive them are the wise "virgins" because as recorded in the prophecy of His return no one knows it except the one who will receive it! So "come" and come to His kingdom/church standing in the holy place in the air/KZbin! Used to read all the time. Not just the bible but Christian books and literature. Now l don’t. My eyes are bad and l had a TIA which affected concentration and comprehension. I used to write poetry and play/produce music. Now, don’t want to. I used to go to church every time the doors were open, now l can hardly make myself go once a month. But, l pray constantly and listen to Chuck Missler bible studies and other good bible teachers. Also listen to the bible online and to beautiful music a lot at night and pray myself to sleep. I still journal, make prayer lists and note answers to prayer, pray with others at times. God answers prayer all the time and l have meaningful dreams, which l write down. Always a message there or something that comes to pass later. Have become a very non-traditional Christian whereas l used to be a more traditional one but always felt like a weirdo and an outsider anyway. Now its me and Jesus, the cat, 2 dogs, a few family members and a few friends. I still pay tithes to my local church and give offerings to soul winning ministries and one that rescues kids from trafficking. I lived under so much stress for years, working, raising kids, teaching children’s church, then caring for sick parents then sick husband, passed away now, so have been worn out emotionally and physically struggling for about 5 years, so if God gives me another assignment, ok. If not, ok. I am ready to exit this realm at anytime.

However I used to follow you until you idolized John MacArthur and refused to rebuke him for his blasphemous views of the blood of Christ. The #1 problem is that most people can not even comprehend that they are eternal spirit encased within a physical body just as the Bible tells us! The #2 problem is that most people are so attached to the physical world around them. Meaning that people's have an insatiable thirst for more of everything and this includes > money, materialism, greed, and power. This is the exact reason why very few will make it through the narrow gate. Satan (Lucifer) was given dominion over the earth before being cast out of Heaven thus those who live for the physical world around them live for Satan and Hell when their physical body expires here on earth...

I recommend treating yourself to a readers bible, not the study format so widely spread with the chaos of numbers and notes put there by intellectuals to chop up, write about, and verbally discuss. Instead the readers bible is for reading through for you the individual created in the image of God to reveal his word written on your heart, and printed on normal thickness paper and normal sized font, it's beautiful to spend time with God this way. It's transformed my life.

Thank you for this suggestion. I didn't know anything exist like that. The KJV is a good translation but we don't talk like that. I have other translations but some preachers say that is wrong and specific points were left out. I don't think the original scriptures taken from scrolls was written with thees and thous. I going to get a readers bible that might make reading about our precious Lord more enjoyable.

I am getting a KJV though because it's valuable for several reasons, but the thee thou wasn't because they spoke like that at the time, it's because it preserves a layers of meaning from the original text by in this example distinguishing between you, you and you, when Jesus or whoever spoke about you the individual, you the group, or you your neighbour. @lionoffireraw needs to do one on the KJV

I have tried using all my senses; reading, study by writing, memory work, meditating by emphasizing the different words. Putting “I” for myself in the verse is a great way to apply the verse in my life. It didn’t happen all at once as it’s a lot of work. I do it first thing after I wake up. Sometimes in hard times, I have had to wake up very early to pray my way through…Now I can’t do without this discipline. I use The Bible in One Year where it’s portioned out, then the Holman’s Study Bible where it’s all outlined. These two are a big help in my writing out my verses.

I thank God that Jesus has proved himself reliable to answer all the big questions of life: origins, destination, morality, and meaning. God loved us 1st. We didn't love God. Allow this to sink in your spirit mind reality & purpose. We are here to be Gods' living purposes. Not perfect. . . Just simply forgiven, and loving as well as he allows, which means more than we can understand. Just remember some people aren't meant to be saviors to others, like a Jesus type of inviting him personally in our own hearts. They too,....need to do this, know this & accept this in their need their time their own choice. Until other's decide to do this it's their own timing and choice. We aren't their saviors. To add to what you're saying, I've been finding there's another trick that helps with our attitude. Start earnestly asking yourself how much God loves the world and pray that it gets revealed to you too. (Even if you know some answers off the cuff, still do it.) When your mind is a bit "rewired" to focus in this manner many passages in the NT start having more emotional impact on you. (And yes, the trail definitely starts way back in the OT.) I've found that my general motivation as far as Christianity and spirituality is concerned has improved due to this.

Sadly, our Bibles (and concordance, etc.) are supernaturally changing. For example, the KJV Lord’s Prayer has changed; it now says “which art” instead of “who art”, and “in earth” instead of “on earth”, and “debts/debtors” instead of “trespasses/Tresspass. Isaiah 11:6 is no longer lion and lamb, it’s now wolf and lamb. There are thousands of changes, yet very few people “see” these changes. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as the Mandela Effect.

Im adhd and mildly Autistic.. For me, i find it very difficult to absorb content from writen text. However, I discovered that my Bible App ( as does its online web verson ) has the ability to Self Read. Its possible Im Gifted Audio-Visually ( similarly in Math / Computational skills ) Sounds beautiful and is especially intellible in BSB .. I discovered that reducing the speed of the read back to 0.75% works really well for me. ( Its like haveing my own personal compassionate tutor) ⭐ The Old & New Testament Books have now sprong into life. ⭐ Especially Genesis to Judges ( even Ezekiel) ( Before i was stumbling at the barrage of ( to me ) unpronounceable names and places, but now its a Revelation) Even Lamentations.. 🙃 The version im using name begins with " You " and i have the Full ( paid for ) version.. Paul, our apostle says in Romans 1:15 KJB So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. (Then he follows up with the gospel) Starting with sin as in a court of law and we are found guilty. Romans 3:21 But now! Paul explains how we receive justification in the eyes of God. God imputes his righteousness unto us when we believe in Jesus and have faith in his blood. Romans 3:24-26 KJB Believe as Abraham did, fully persuaded. Romans 4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Consider reading Romans 1-4 KJB for justification, then the rest of Romans is for sanctification (holy living) Death, burial and resurrection is what we remember for sanctification. 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Romans 6 explains death burial and resurrection for sanctification. Dead to sin, buried with him and raised in newness of life.

UNDERSTANDING the RIDDLES in the bible is the main reason it is not read. Another man's interpretation does not mean their opinions are right. it is a very very difficult read. I’ve had a desire to read the word and have been truly excited to learn more about God’s character. Then Satan starts putting thoughts into the mind that it’s a works relationship and life gets in the way and I stop reading the word. When I recognize this I get back into reading the word.
