I inherited my oily skin from my mom. The good thing is she is 70 and doesn’t look it. I’m in my 40’s and people say I don’t look my age. I tried for years to “fix” my oily skin. Even with a healthy lifestyle (exercise, drink only water, good food) and a good skin care routine I still have oily skin. It’s genetics. I have found skin care and makeup tricks that help (some I learned from you and you mentioned some of them today) but I have accepted that my skin is oily and it’s part of me.
@relaxcalmly17422 жыл бұрын
As an oily skin woman, there’s way more negatives. Idk how I inherited it because no ppl from both my parent’s side are oily. No matter what kind of food they eat, it doesn’t affect them as much as it would affect me. The oily skin look affects acne, makes pores worse and looks worse, makes you feel dirty, dirt and dusts likes to stick onto your face, hair and bangs likes to stick when it touches your face and looks dirty afterwards, your skin feels heated, it is unpleasant to touch, it doesnt look flattering especially with acne popping everywhere. It’s so sad and embarrassing when my nieces wants to touch my face or my spouse does, or cheek kiss and hugs with my face to theirs and it transfers or they feel it. Sigh 😔

Retinoids or Retinol is a good long-term strategy. It doesn't change your skin overnight, but by and by, it's appearance will improve - including reduced pore size. And yes, SA helps clean out those pores in the meantime. I've found leaving an SA cleanser on the skin for 2-3 min every morning the most effective as well. Creams or toners with SA do not work nearly as well for me.

Wait for the 40' s. It' s like if someone had stopped the clock. You' ll need to show your ID more and more often😉. "Training" the scalp is a tricky concept. There' s no need to shampoo a NORMAL- normal to dry scalp daily like no tomorrow as some people do. That' s why it becomes oilier faster as a defense. They think they are "training" it when basically they are listening to an overstripped scalp and washing the day when the oil appears. If the scalp produces an excess of oil and you know that androgens are the cause, what tf is gonna be trained, ovaries? My hair lasts perfect one week (I even need specific conditioner for scalp) calves lenght, my body is also an aligator but my face is the oiliest ever.🤦🏻♀️ Miss Genetics is my cause, my testo is way under the cis-woman average. I' m sick & tired of being asked: "How did you train your hair to be so long, shiny and silky? What is the secret?" and "Do you know what will reduce your oily skin? Have you ever tried [insert here any food or nonsense ingredient]"? The answer is "no secret" and "no, thank you" just 🧬G T C A🧬, period. Isotretinoine worked because it literally modifies DNA🤷🏻♀️ One day, when someone with dry skin complains about lines and wrinkles or someone complains about dry itchy scalp, we should politely suggest to "train" the sebaceus glands and hair follicles to produce more oil 😅🤣.

The sunscreens I love for oily skin are EVY (brown bottles) and Paula's Choice Calm suncreen for oily combo skin. The yellow tube from Dr. Dennis Gross is great but freakishly expensive. Alright, so I normally don't comment, been watching for awhile now, and have been slowly integrating benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid in my skincare routine. To start off, I began utilizing a 10% benzoyl peroxide face wash over the past year. This massively helped with my acne and pretty much cleared, despite a few lingering mini dark spots. My face also looked a bit dull lately, the complexion was lacking. Over the past two months I have been also using the original orange formula neutrogena oil free salicylic acne wash. I slowly started using it and integrating it into my routine because I saw a lot of consumers experienced irritation, but for me it seemed to do the opposite. It actually felt like it moisturized my skin oddly. With that, I am now utilizing the salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide at the same time twice a day, and my skin is extremely clear and not dry at all. I use them both twice a day morning and night, I know it's a bit excessive but for me it seems to be working. I have extremely oily skin....am I doing long term damage to my skin barrier, or is this okay?

I had oily, dehydrated and congested skin (which I had initially mistook for dry, acne prone skin) and didn't use sunscreen daily. After learning about skin health I worked on the hydration first and started wearing sunscreen daily, then a few months later got the congestion (and subsequently the acne) under control. Fixing those made the oiliness temporarily like fountain day and night. Then I started using retinoids/retinol, hahaha not oily anymore; now I have to back up and prevent dryness without triggering the congestion again... 😅

At night I then follow with Neutrogena Stubborn Acne Treatment with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide over my whole face. On my drier areas of my face, I will follow up with CeraVe moisturizing cream. In the morning after cleansing, I use Neutrogena Gentle Skin Hydrator which has 4% niacinamide in it. After the hydrator dries, I use a pea size amount of OC Eight over my whole face. This simple routine has kept my usually severely oily, acne prone skin, clear and oil free. People who don't know me usually guess my age 10 - 20 years younger than what I am and I'm told this all the time. No kidding! And no, I don't use sunscreen (I've tried SO many in the past) because they either sting my eyes, face, makes me very oily, or breaks me out.

The most annoying part about having oily and acne prone skin is that everyone (even complete strangers) feel obligated to make unsolicited-often rude- comments about my face. Often it’s someone saying “you need to do X to fix your face.” Number 1: I never asked for your advice. I never even asked for you to look at my face. Number 2: Gosh, I’m so lucky I ran into you cause I haven’t already tried thousands of dollars worth of products, medications and treatments… 🙄 Most of the time they offer the dumbest ‘solution’ which I’ve already tried and given up on. They also have a tone that makes it sound like they think I’m lazy and I’m just too stupid and lack self awareness to realize that the answer was there all along. It all would be very infuriating if it wasn’t so demoralizing. Anyway. Thanks for the thoughtful video. End rant.

I have the oiliest skin and I have always had. I hate it. I tried everything, salicylic acid, niacinamide, clay masks, tretinoin, and lastly, isotretinoin. I am on a whole food plant based diet for years, I do sports, and I am healthy completely. Isotretinoin is the only thing that works, I am on a low dose (10 mg every day) for 1,5 years and honestly am terrified of stopping it, because my face is so oily that it effects my self-esteem in a bad way and I am ashamed of it. I am serious when I say this but I have never seen another human with such an oily skin As I have. 😥

I am EXACTLY the same. 10 mg a day is perfect to control our excess without suffering side effects. How it works when you stop? DON' T BE AFRAID 🖤. You remain like if you took the pills for some months, even years. Then, veeeeeeeery slowly, you start to become tiny tiny tiny bit oilier every day. I was terrified the first time also. What I can NOT tell you is how much time you will look like being on isotretinoine. It was 2 years my first time. Currently, at 48 yo, I' ve started a mini micro dose (5 mgs every 3 days) after 6 years of perfection. My derm could not believe it. He repeated in a loop: "I was sure that 2016 should be your last round😳🤯" And I' ve been using tretinoine every night since then. Nothing😒. No topical can help me to decrease my crazy production. In my case, it' s pure genetics. My nutrition and lifestyle is healthy simply for myself not because my skin reacts better to it. "The Cinderella Effect" is not gonna happen, don' t you worry. I hate my oil. I' ll always do. It' s the sensation, feeling I can' t control it buuuuut, my face is not normal. Not a single wrinkle. (I wish YT allowed to send you a DM) Always showing my ID because nobody believes me. At least, all that oil has done something benefitial 😅. Hope it helped. I' d rather choose to be 1 minute naked in the center of my city than waking up with someone face to face. I am not exagerating at all. Makes me feel dirty, nasty ashamed and humiliated. I totally feel people who suffer from hyperhydrosis. 🧛🏻♀️🖤 (🤔are you magyar skin twin?...)

@@sebumpostmortem thank you so much for sharing your story with me, I really appreciate it! 💗 Unfortunately, my skin gets oily again in like a week after I stopped iso for a short time because I had a surgery. I was devastated. My only hope now is that maybe if I get the cumulative dose (which I think is counted from my weight) then my basic oiliness wont be that strong. I wish I could take this medication forever! I am 29 years old (and yes, hungarian) now and I dont have kids yet, but honestly the thought of stopping iso a few months before trying, during pregnancy, and during breastfeeding (so around 2 years) and living with my oiliness for that long terrifies me and makes me question if I really want a kid/kids or not. I know this sounds crazy, but living with a condition like this is crazy too on a daily basis, as you know.

@@sebumpostmortem where do you live? Was it hard for you to find a derm who prescribed you isotretinoin? Did you need to try all the topicals before giving you the magical pill?
@sebumpostmortem2 жыл бұрын
@@mariettaszabo I' m spanish. But just a "passport spanish". From the inside, I' m ukrainian☺️. Was it hard? A hell, a nightmare. Years and years of derms, every single topical that may exist, oral hormones, antibiotics... All unsuccesfull. That' s why I call him Saint Derm. Finally, 🙌🏻THE PILL🙌🏻 and, most important, not overdosed. In Spain, 95% of derms prescribe 40mgs a day or 40 morning+40 afternoon. 🤦🏻♀️🤯From one delirious situation to the completely opposite. From extream oil to extream dry (and so many other chronicle side effects). Also discipline is a factor. Patients tend to ignore the rules, drink, eat and do what they want and blame the medication😒. So, here, when you say "I took Roacutan", the stigma comes out and everybody says: RoacuSATAN? ARE YOU CRAZY? THIS IS VENOM, ROACUTAN DESTROYED MY LIFE!!!😱😰. We know that it can be life changing and my blood tests were and are always on point. So my liver is. 🧛🏻♀️🖤.

Interesting...I have oily skin and was recommended by a dermatologist not to wash my face with cleanser (just water is fine) in the morning, just in the evening, it helped a lot.

My skins reallly strange, I never had oily skin growing up but since I turned about 27 my face is slick with oil very often, I don't get a lot of acne at all which apparently is common in oily skin, my skin care routine isnt too extra either, I use a mist spray with water to remove oil in the morning and then apply spf, in the evening I use a oat oil cleanser and then a water based cleanser for redness then apply a omega water cream with lipids. Thats it. It's really bothersome because how my skin appears from day to day can impact how I feel on that particular day, I feel it also really impacts my mental health.

Same. I didn’t wash my face for 2 weeks not even with water and because of that my skin has become very greasy and oily. Even after washing everyday regularly it didn’t change so this will be the way my skin is going to be from now on. If you found anything that helps reduce oiliness I would appreciate advice!

I love you're talking about this topic I've always had oily skin an the annoyingness of wasteful products in the years past especially moisturizers luckly years ago I started using philosophy renewed hope in a jar then I was so sad when they stopped making it now they have a hope in a jar smooth glow idk if they just rebranded the other but it works just as good I'm so happy to know this journey has been for others too it can be very frustrating thank you for what you do :)

Aside from alcohol, try to look for sunscreen that has silica in it! Game changer ingredient for me too.

Would rather have dry skin than oily skin. Oily skin smells bad, clogs pore, make your pillows smell bad and overall very irritating when you have glasses.

I saw a huge decrease in my oiliness once I started on Tretinoin and added moisturizer consistently. Now I have a slight amount of oil but not enough to really care about. Moisturizer for oily skin, who knew?

I don't know why people don't talk about climate.. oily skin in dry climate may need moisturizer, but oily skin in an extremely hot and humid climate do not need moisturizer! We already have excess amount of oil, moisture, hydration and sweat on our skin! Why add more? To let the acne bacteria party in excess moisture, oil and sweat and worsen our acne?

I'm 66 year old man. I've always had oily skin but never had acne. Strangers often comment on my skin and how young I look. I've had friends pull me over at gatherings and will ask people that don't know me to guess my age. I've had guys (strangers) walk up and ask me what I do to my skin. Honestly I can't afford anything more than regular bar soap and that's it. My wife (don't judge me LOL) is much younger. She always says ...... "you're different".

I didn’t wash my face for 2 weeks (no moisture therapy) and it has turned my face extremely greasy and oily. My skin used to be dry and mat. It doesn’t only look bad it also feels very dirty and uncomfortable to the point that I don’t even leave my house anymore. I wish I just washed my face and never started with that nonsense I ruined my face and my life 😔
