I started using your protocol about a year ago and I'm so happy I found you. My teeth are not only whiter but they feel more solid and less like I'm going to be looking at dentures in the next ten years. I didn't realize that I had gum disease because I've never suffered from bleeding gums, but I finally learned that the growing pockets that no amount of brushing or flossing ever fixed, were also a symptom. Now with learning to massage my gums every time I brush, those pockets have disappeared for the most part. Also I had several teeth where the gums had receded so much that I could see about a millimetre of root showing. I'm thrilled to say that that millimetre of root has moved back up those teeth. Because my gums are tighter now and closer to where they were supposed to be, my back molars also don't feel as much like they're looser than they should be. What's terrible is that at almost 70, no dentist ever taught me how to manage my oral health. They only asked the rudimentary questions (are you flossing and how many times a day do you brush). But they never taught me to brush my mouthguard every day to kill the bacteria on it, never taught how fragile our gum/tooth edge is, never taught me to massage those gums at the base to keep the healthy blood going up to feed the tissue. So thank you Dr. Ellie for teaching us how to have healthy mouths. I'll be forever grateful.

I have a lot of root exposure so your story gives me hope, (even though I know it’s not guaranteed that gums will regrow). But I’ve been confused about how we should brush our gums on the program and haven’t yet found an answer clear to me. Should we brush/massage the gums where they actually meet the teeth or do we avoid that and just brush the areas underneath the teeth? I AM brushing the teeth themselves and the gums below the teeth but I’m scared to work the areas of the gums where they meet the teeth because it seems as though doing so has caused more recession and I don’t want to lose any more tissue 😖
@ddhqj2023
@ddhqj2023 Ай бұрын
@@RenSilverstar Here's what I figured out from all the videos I've watched. Brush your teeth first (after the Listerine, etc.), but be gentle. You don't want to push back to vigorously on the tooth/gum edge. Then tuck your brush down at the bottom of the gums furthest away from that tooth/gum edge (where your lip tissue meets the bottom of the gum edge). Brush rather vigorously there. What that does is bring fresh blood into that receded gum and it seems that combined with the Listerine which kills the bad bacteria that leads to gum disease, it reinvigorates the gum tissue so that it can heal. I also do the same on the inside of the gums behind the teeth. A little harder to avoid the tooth/gum edge, but maybe don't be quite as vigorous there. Remember, if you're using the xylitol religiously after eating, the plaque stuff is actually pretty soft so it doesn't take scrubbing to remove it. Good luck, I hope it works for you.

I don't have the best dental insurance and so I tried this system as a last, very desperate resort. I panicked because I noticed I had dark cavities forming at the rear gumline of a front tooth... after a little over a month following the system daily, the dark greyish black lining on my tooth faded away. Gone! It was either black plaque or an early cavity, I don't know (and don't care now that theyre gone!)So I am gonna keep this going. I hope this helps anyone wondering. I think it takes discipline to change habits, but if it's any extra motivation, the "side effect" of this system is that it helped me meet some fitness and weight loss goals much faster-- during Thanksgiving no less😅

I was the one who put on my reading glasses and examined my teeth in a magnifying mirror, after 3 months of using her protocol. I was horrified to find heavy staining behind my teeth, with strips and dark triangles in between. I contacted her via her boot camp and she explained all of the above. I opted to get a professional cleaning. Took care of the staining of the dead bacteria and it has not returned. I now use xylitol crystals on my toothpaste when I brush. I couldn't be happier with the results...

Dr. Ellie, Thank you for this video, it couldn’t have come at a better time for me! After some initial hesitation (mostly about using the Listerine) I’ve been doing your system for a month now and immediately saw improvement. I’ve always been fortunate to have good teeth, only one teeny cavity my whole life and I’m in my 40s. However, two years ago I came down with a horrific winter virus. Had the worst fever of my life. Tested for flu and Covid and both came back negative so who knows what it was, but it was horrible. The entire inside of my upper lip broke out in ulcers. Mind you, I’ve never in my life, ever had canker or cold sores. I thought it was just due to the illness/fever/body stress and it would go away but two years later it was still there. Very painful to eat and drink (especially anything acidic), even to talk or to smile was painful. I tried everything and went to so many doctors about this, including my GP, dentist, oral surgeon and rheumatologist. Oral surgeon did a biopsy which came back as inconclusive (possibly autoimmune but rheumatologist found nothing obvious to explain it). After 1.5 years of this, long and behold, I all of a sudden had a cavity on my front tooth right where the ulcers were. I came across your KZbin channel and after watching a few videos it really helped me understand pH balance in the mouth. I’m convinced the acidity in my mouth was through the roof from the time of that illness (that illness also completely messed with my menstrual cycle and I know you mentioned pregnant women have high acidity in their mouth as well). I began using your complete mouth care system and placing the Zellie mints under my upper lip where I would get the ulcers. Long and behold after only one week the ulcers were completely gone. The gum irritation on my upper front by those ulcers is heaps better and I believe, will eventually heal completely. I can actually eat ketchup and red wine and other acidic things now without breaking out in sores and in pain. Two years of pain, heaps of medical bills going to specialists and the answer was right here on your KZbin channel. THANK YOU so much for putting your knowledge out there Dr. Ellie! 🙏🏼 I’m a total believer in your system!

I was one of those who stopped snd started alrhough I was getting good results. The reasons were financial - the cost to ship Closys to my country was more than twice the purchase price - and the inconsistent availability of a couple of products locally. Well, after experiencing the return of gum inflammation, plaque build-up and sensitivity to cold foods I decided to return to the protocol and do what was necessary to afford the mouthwashes and to not run out of products. Within a month of resuming the protocol there was a significant reduction in gum inflammation, cold sensitivity and plaque. I intend to continue using Dr. Ellie's oral care protocol and I look forward to the results of consistent long-term use.

If you are on the fence about trying this mouthcare routine by Dr. Phillips, stop wasting time and just do it. I’m an ex addict who never took good enough care of her teeth. I’ve had fillings galore, one tooth pulled and more recently another needing a root canal. After multiple dentist trips this past summer I went online in search of anything that could help reverse all these cavities forming and staining, etc. I watched Dr. Ellie, I read the reviews and I compiled the products on my own. It’s now been about 4-5 months and my family can’t believe how white my teeth are my husband says they look like veneers. I have less pain, the tooth that needed a root canal looks and feels entirely different. I can’t thank this woman enough. it’s changed my life and I’m telling you just do it. Stick with it. the products are easy to find and not expensive. Wish i had found this sooner.

Dr. Ellie has a new video out called Dental Fluorosis Explained: What Causes Those Spotted Teeth. You will find the answer to your fluoride question in that video. For your other question, here is an excerpt from another video where she answered a commenter's question about if her recommended mouthwash killed good and bad bacteria: "If alcohol killed all the bacteria in your mouth we should be terrified of wine and beer. If you think it is that alcohol "sterilizes" the mouth - then consider hand sanitizers - which need to be at LEAST 70-80% alcohol to be effective. Also they are to be used in a dry and clean environment. This is why, to be effective, you should wash your hands, apply sanitizer, and rub your hands until they are dry. In the mouth there is no dry place and no clean place - since the mouth is covered with biofilm. The alcohol content of Listerine is only 20-25% max...too dilute to cause bacterial damage. The study that made this claim POURED Listerine directly on cells in a laboratory petri dish. In the mouth a) Listerine is diluted by saliva b) cells are coated in saliva and c) there is a layer of biofilm everywhere in the mouth. Believe it or not, this study was done by a competitor mouthwash company with a similar essential oil products that did not contain alcohol. It is essential oils in Listerine which modulate bacteria - targeting only the round spherical ones that form/cause/ develop into plaque. Read the label and it says that it targets the bacteria that CAUSE plaque, gingivitis etc. It has no effect on periodontal bacteria, mature plaque and most of the other bacteria in the mouth. Moreover there are two groups of bacteria in the mouth - single cell floating in saliva and the ones meshed into biofilm. Listerine does not penetrate biofilm - so it can only target Strep Mutans when they are floating in saliva. Does this explain? You may like the new edition of my book Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye that will be in bookstores and on Amazon on Jan 28th 2025. You may want to send one to the person who told you that Listerine kills good and bad bacteria....."

@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 18 күн бұрын
Here is what Dr. Ellie said elsewhere about staining after starting the system: "Teeth staining: “Good stains” are seen on teeth when dental disease has been rapidly controlled, when the remnants of thick plaque and harmful bacteria die off quickly. The debris collects around the tooth, often looking like a dark stain at the gum line. This stain is the sign of improved oral health, less bleeding, and a healthier mouth and gums. A dental cleaning will quickly remove this kind of staining and leave the healthier teeth pristine and white. If you do not have a cleaning within a couple of months of starting the complete system, the sudden improvement in your oral health may result in a thin band of stain forming around the edges of your teeth at the gum line. This staining is not a problem, is not permanent, and is not at all unhealthy. This stain is dead plaque debris that has shriveled up and formed a hair-like deposit around the edge of your teeth. One cleaning at the dentist will remove this band of debris. Ways to address: 1. Are you using the Mouthwatchers brushes that I recommend? (And have 2 of them - one for AM and one for PM.) You must get away from fear of brushing too hard. It's not true and you will not do damage by brushing - you will get rid of these stains! 2. Do you let your brushes dry for 24 hours between uses? Never soak them in anything or they will get too soft. 3. Are you brushing this area of your mouth where you are seeing the stains? Aim at these areas first, when you have the most toothpaste on your brush, and before you do the gum massage, etc - this is almost always superficial debris that just takes a bit more work to remove. 4. Are you using the system 2x daily? You will get staining if more plaque forms on teeth every 12 hours during the first months - before the oral bacteria have been balanced. In the future you may be able to skip a time or two - but not in the first months. 5. Do you stop eating and drinking completely - not even water - after the xylitol at the end of meals? This allows the new healthy protective biofilm to form, and it is this biofilm that will stop your teeth from accumulation of this debris. You may also want to have a Zellies mint last thing at night before sleeping. 6. This stain is not a health problem - just no one likes a dark stain. But it is superficial debris and will brush off; just use a bit more toothpaste and some more energy on these areas. 7. IF this extra energy and toothpaste trick is NOT ENOUGH to get rid of the stain - then you are going to make a special paste for yourself - Exfoliating paste: Mix together half a teaspoon of granular xylitol with a big squeeze of the Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste. Use this exfoliating toothpaste mixture - aim at the stains first thing every morning (not during the system.…but as you get out of bed in the morning). Just target these stains with this mixture of xylitol crystals + toothpaste. In 3-4 days the staining should have disappeared completely. Then you do not need to keep using this mixture; you can go back to the normal paste as a part of the system.”

I have been using the system for 4 days now and I feel I have cleaner teeth and my gums feel “lighter”. I’ve also noticed that when I get to 3rd and 4th step I rinse out small pieces of food/plaque I thought I had removed with interdental brushes. Impressive. I so wish you would do a thorough video of the system in eu products. I have lost count on the many Reddit threads and comments with very confused people as to what to use over here.

XYLITOL DearDoctor Ellie, I have intestinal problem and surgeries since I was a child. I'm 75 now and I have been doing your system for a year. IT WORKS so well. My dentist loves my results. Unfortunately I cannot do the xylitol. It gives me terrible diarrhea. I've tried it many different ways at different times. I finally just put it in my Listerine. Dr. Ellie, thank you so much for this video! I have a question about the ideal order of using products in the morning. You mentioned that it's important to let our teeth rest for one or two hours after consuming xylitol or using mouthwash. Considering this, which of the following sequences would be most effective: breakfast - xylitol - mouthwash, breakfast - mouthwash - xylitol, mouthwash - breakfast - xylitol, or just breakfast - mouthwash?

Most kids learn to brush their teeth too soon - and long before they have a full set of adult teeth. Teens need to know the importance of gum massage as soon as they have their adult teeth. Teenagers need their parents to educate them about the best way to protect their teeth and gums - if they are to enjoy a lifetime of oral health. I must consider this and create a teen educational program....maybe this is my resolution for 2025. Thank you :)

Dr. Ellie does not recommend using coconut oil in the mouth because it kills all bacteria, both good and bad, but you need the good kind in there to protect teeth and gums. She also does not recommend diluting xylitol into liquids to use as a rinse, because doing so will cause it to be way, way less effective.

However, I have noticed that when I use the Crest toothpaste that Dr Ellie recommends, I do get this white stringy stuff. specially with Listerine, Dr Bronners toothpaste contains baking soda, which Dr Ellie might not recommend, but some people have said that SLS is the cause of these white stringy mucous membranes. I don't think the last commenter understood your question. I think the 1-2 hours she is referring to is this - After you use xylitol, rest your mouth (do not eat or drink anything at all, even water) for at least 1-2 hours or longer to allow your saliva to remineralize the teeth, etc. But about your question, are you using her whole Complete Mouth Care System, or just brushing all by itself? If you are only brushing your teeth with a toothpaste and that is all you're doing, then you can use xylitol soon after you finish that.

Hi Dr. Ellie. Can you discuss angular impacted wisdom teeth and its implications on gum health and overall health? I’m 22 year old and my xray shows I have 2 mesioangular impacted wisdom teeth in my lower jaw. For context I only have 2 fillings in my mouth, no pulled teeth, root canals, or crowns. I noticed I have either a gum pocket or inflammation forming in between my the second lower left molar and wisdom tooth. I call it a gum pocket because I can floss noticeably deeper in that area compared to the other side of the tooth and compared to the other 2nd molar on that jaw. I have been doing your system for over 2 months + flossing (with toothpaste) + I cleaned up my diet and I am using supplements daily. I also did blood work to rule out autoimmune issues since I was/ am experiencing low grade joint pain. The system + flossing has helped with my symptoms. Aside from the 1 gum pocket/ inflammation occurring around the wisdom tooth and occasional dull jaw pain right where my 2 lower wisdom teeth are, I have no other gum issues. so I don’t believe my issue is gum disease- especially since I am so young… My mom said gum disease takes years to develop + we don’t have a family history of gum disease so she doesn’t think that’s the root issue either. My mother also had serious issues with her lower wisdom teeth and experienced body pain at my age as well. She was occasionally put on antibiotics but never pulled her teeth. Now her wisdom teeth are partially erupted and they haven’t caused her any problem since giving birth to her last child. I will see a surgeon soon to discuss my issue but I was wondering what your opinion is on pulling wisdom tooth? Do you think the positioning of the tooth could cause these issues I’m experiencing? Though I would rather not pull the tooth, I’m particularly concerned about deeper pocketing and body inflammation as these things can develop into something more sinister.

Dr Phillips I think one reason I stain more readily is that your system works so well that my exposed roots can’t get covered with whitish tartar and the sensitive dentin is exposed to tannins. Dr. Ellie answered someone's question in comments elsewhere about sensitivity after starting the program with this info: "In most cases they are not using correct products. Or they are not practicing any "mouth resting"...the 2 hours after xylitol when you do not eat or drink anything. Some have chewed the gum for too long. 2-10 minutes max - followed by no eating or drinking - not even water. Severe tooth sensitivity = a nerve problem. You should have that tooth checked by an endodontist - and this would have nothing to do with my system. You likely have a filling or a crown that upset the tooth - sometimes this happened as long as 5-10 years ago." This commenter wrote back to her about 2 weeks later: "The sensitivity has now completely gone. I rested my teeth as you recommend and also stopped the Listerine for a few days. Pleased to be back on track." Sometimes people keep Listerine in the mouth for too long. The usual time is 30-45 seconds, but the rule on Listerine is to swish with it only until it starts to feel hot, then spit it out. For some people, this may only be a few seconds at first until their mouth gets stronger and they can gradually work their way up longer.

@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 18 күн бұрын
Then you do not need to keep using this mixture; you can go back to the normal paste as a part of the system.” About your plaque question, Listerine kills immature plaque as it is growing into adult plaque and getting stronger. It does not kill adult plaque. This process in the mouth happens every 12 hours (that's how long it takes before the immature plaque will reach adulthood). So the reason you use the system (including Listerine) AM and PM, about every 12 hours, is to stop the immature baby plaque in its tracks and keep it from growing into adult plaque at all, which averts the damage. Listerine is the product that kills the immature plaque. Yes, you need to leave the Listerine in, or the system won't work as well.

How long were you swishing with Listerine? It could have been too long. The usual length of time is 30-45 seconds, but the rule for Listerine is to swish with it only until it starts to feel hot and then spit it out and immediately follow with ACT. Sensitive people may not be able to do more than 3 or 10 seconds at first, and that's OK. As the mouth gets stronger, you can gradually work your time back up.

Dr. Ellie said that was not right, and "let's take a look at your products". It turned out he had accidentally gotten the Listerine Cool Mint variety called UltraClean, which she says never to use as it is damaging and a terrible formula. But the problem is that it looks exactly the same as the correct bottles of Listerine Cool Mint that are _not_ the UltraClean version, so it is easy to pick up the wrong one. Once he made the switch back to the correct Listerine Cool Mint, he was good again.

Dr. Ellie.. Would you make a video addressing these naysayer 'issues'.. 1. Alcohol in Listerine (don't know if it actually is an issue since the Listerine is only on the teeth for such a short time and neutralized by the ACT rinse).. The 'issues' associated with the alcohol content are: stopping the nitric oxide flow in our mouths.. How long is nitric oxide stopped? Does twice a day practice of your system give it time to come back? ..Also, the killing of good bacteria along with the bad. 2. Naysayers say that flouride is terrible to rinse with...Maybe that concern is because they think flouride is absorbed in the mouth during rinsing? Is it..and is that a problem? Or, is it only the drinking of flouridated water that is a problem? 3. One naysayer put forth that if you have had dental work done (bridges...etc.), that they might be loosened or broken down in some way over time, using your complete system. I have been using your system but these 'issues' continue to worry me. I hope you see this and put them to rest. Thank you.. I really appreciate your clear explanations.

I'm confused, my dentist told me NOT to brush my teeth after breakfast as breakfast makes your teeth acidic and brushing would damage the enamel. Is this right or wrong?
@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 18 күн бұрын
That is correct IF you are simply brushing your teeth with any old random toothpaste and not using the whole system. Dr. Ellie recommends her whole Complete Mouth Care System, which starts with Step 1 Closys mouth rinse. Closys will neutralize the mouth acidity to prepare the teeth for brushing so tooth enamel will not be damaged. The system is done at the sink twice a day, AM and PM. If you are eating and/or drinking liquids at any other times and will not be doing the system right after the meal, then she recommends to take xylitol immediately following the food or liquid, which will also alkalize the mouth instantly to stop acid damage, but you will not brush after using xylitol. Following xylitol, you rest your mouth (no more food or liquids) for at least 1-2 hours to allow the mineral-enriched saliva to work on remineralizing the teeth.

Is putting a 1/4 teaspoon of granular Xylitol straight in your mouth after meals, with no water or anything else, just Xylitol, effective for healthy teeth and gums? Do I need more than a 1/4 teaspoon at a time? Also, if only eating twice a day, should I take more granular Xylitol between meals? If so, how many times a day is optimal? Is it best to let the granular Xylitol (no water or anything else) sit in the mouth or swish it around in your mouth for a couple of minutes with the saliva the granular Xylitol produces? I have read that "The regular use of xylitol (5-10 grams spread out over 5 times) reduces plaque and cavities by 50%." and wanted to get your feedback on this as well. where can I buy xylitol crystals? I can't find them on line? Perhaps Dr Ellie can add them to her shop? My teeth are feeling so healthy but definitely noticing the stains on bottom teeth more. Perhaps it's because the teeth are getting whiter so the stains stand out more. Love this program. thanks

Are you doing the whole Complete Mouth Care System, or using only xylitol alone? By the way, that type of xylitol is also called xylitol granules. It is 100% xylitol with nothing else added and is widely available.

Also, asking for a family member, would the system benefit someone with dentures? Obviously there are no teeth to save, but would the gums still benefit or would it be pointless?

I'd say emphatically yes. It's overall mouth health, not just teeth.

Hello Dr. Ellie, You mentioned using xylitol spray for sinus infections. I’m currently making my own spray by mixing xylitol crystals and salt. Is it okay to use this before your system? I ask because you mentioned that xylitol shouldn’t be used beforehand due to its basic reaction. If I understood correctly, we need a more acidic environment for CloSys to react effectively. Thank you!

That's right. No xylitol before Clossys.

Thank you for explaining all of this! I love your system but was hesitant after all the staining - only thing is my dentist told me to stop doing what I’m doing. So I don’t have a lot of faith in my dentist unfortunately……

Dr. Ellie, I’ve been doing your complete system for a year and love how my teeth look and feel but I’m still experiencing sensitivity. Please advise!

I never had a dry mouth before starting the Complete Mouthcare system, but now am having alot of dry mouth both during the day and at night. I suspect I'm very sensitive to other ingredients in the mouthwashes. I am doing xylitol but its still an issue and get pasty buildup on tongue and inside cheeks. Any suggestions?

Always check that you are using the correct products in the correct order with the correct system...like the length of Listerine rinse for example. There are many nuances with this and one wrong product makes a difference. What kind of toothpaste are you using? How long have you been doing "the system?" How much xylitol do you have each day - and which products?

Went for a cleaning yesterday, 100% good news were not given but better results in alot of ways from a year ago. Brushing twice and Pur after lunch have only been going on in this last year period. Will keep moving ahead for more improvements!
