My PS3 Slim did the Yellow Light of Death last year. I really miss it. I was led to believe the slim model doesn't suffer from YLoD, but I'm here to tell you guys... It very much can.

Only the 20xx model slims (the first revision of the ps3 slims) had the tendency to YLoD due to the fact that those models also had Nec/Tokin capacitors that can fail over time. If you replace those, it should be fine again. But also you should definitely read the syscon for error codes so you can know for sure

My 1st PS3 was the 80gb with backwards, and had the card reader and 4 usb ports on the front, but sadly the light of death. That forced me to buy the 500gb slim which I still have today. Still works too

Do you mean the Super Slim? That’s the one with 500 GB and that was actually the first gaming console I bought for myself and one that I completely owned since beforehand other consoles, including a 320 GB PS3 Slim were ones that were shared. I would definitely love to have a PS3 Slim again though, that one I really made the most memories on

One thing that I recommend is getting a ps3 slim/ss and a PS2 separately, because you get to save alot of money that way. (Model 1’s are skyrocketing in price now)

Sure but if you have to cash to buy a launch backwards compatible ps3 then I say go for it. You can have three full playstation library's with only one console that's alot of games. And two because of modern displays the backwards compat ps3 gets the edge because you can play those ps2 games upscale to hdmi which you simply arnt getting on a ps2 best you can do is component but then again finding component cables for ps2 are expensive and alot of modern tvs don't even support component or even composit cables anymore

So for those who are confused about PS2 compatibility or compatibility in general on later models through jailbreak, here's the current numbers. 2250 PS2 games are fully playable with no issues, 300 have minor issues (a few slowdowns or small graphical bugs), 85 have major issues and 38 are unplayable. ALTHOUGH, most of the "unplayable" games are online only like EverQuest/Final Fantasy 11 and some require specific usb accessories the emulation doesn't support like Lifeline. Also, some games have HD remasters so you can bypass emulation like Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus, FF10 and GoW 1 & 2. Tl;dr: You can play 80% of the PS2 library fine, or 95% if you don't mind the minor issues games. Compatibility can still improve further if the community can make more config files for the remaining broken games. PS1 compatibility however is the same on all PS3s.

Well that's because Sony had a battle with Immersion as the result the PS3's SIXAXIS controller had no rumble and then after the settlement with Immersion then Sony released the DualShock 3 with the SIXAXIS built in.

7:30 - this one was the best with its capabilities, but good luck finding one that won't overheat and break nowadays. I had one that only lasted 2 months before it died. The CECHG01 which I have now (as well as all the other later fats with the silver disc drive) are the better more reliable ones. They dont play PS2 games, but thats why its better to have an actual physical PS2. It's way less of a headache

the main cause of the ylod was never the capacitors, they can still cause it but the biggest reason is the solder balls under the rsx chip that connects it to the dye which is the green board under the chip when you delid the rsx cracking overtime and breaking the connection to the motherboard, the 90nm rsx chips made by nvidia are unreliable

YLOD is not just the tokens... the CPU and the RSX where very poorly designed and due to the heat and cooling fluctuations they would essentially break apart on the inside which is why you are starting to see older ps3's with 40nm swaps. so while the tokins can cause ylod they are most certainly not the main reason for the issue.

Its primarily JUST the RSX(GPU) and sometimes the Nec/Tokin capacitors. Replace that sucker of a GPU with a Slim Ps3 GPU and should be golden The CELL(CPU) on the other hand are tanks, very well fabricated from the start. Never seen a CPU fail on its own on any PS3

Personally recommend anyone looking for a backwards compatible PS3 to seek a CECHE01 model. They were a revision to the launch models and emulated ps2 games instead of running them natively. However they are known to be far more reliable and less prone to the YLOD compared to the CECHA01 and B01

A warning that the Bethesda games on PS3 are problematic. Bethesda had problems with the lower RAM in the PS3 and there's frequent crashes and slowdown in the late game of Skyrim and Fallout.

PS3 with Backward compatibility is the best for me. Better save the game savedata via USB. The only thing i can't stand it is the Yellow light of death. Sony should be ashamed for using weak materials to build PS3s (especially the controllers), they were supposed to use strong, sturdy and durable materials.

I found one of the top tier sony blue ray players at the time that are built on that tech and use the same ui so itl hold me over till i eventually get one. There is a caveat about some Dual Shock PS1 games on PS3 (Ape Escape in particular): The analog doesn't work with emulation, so you might need a PS2 on hand for that just in case.

I've got the ps3 fat had it for a long time now and it hasn't had no problems at all. Just get one, and jailbreak it! plus put your fan speed on 45% and always keep a close eye on your cpu and rsx. My temperatures never get higher than 54C / 58C on both chips

Maybe Tomb raider and a few games here and there. I dislike Fps in general. If you like em, fine you do you :) Just so many games yah just being some Dude, walking about. "Look how broad I can walk" :/ So boring. Psx2 had a lot of fun games and Rpg's. Really miss a lot of fun Rpg's on the psx3. Yeah many shooters hybrid rpg's. But again boring :/ Was nice system though you can watch blu ray and Dvd on Hdmi :)

Not really the only PlayStation you really need, though, is it? I mean, it can't play PS4 or PS5, and to be fair, my PS3 has sat collecting dust since the PS4 was released, and even more so now I have the PS5. Now, yes, it is still a great console, and I do use it every now and then, but that I mean once every 6 months or so. I do collect for it. I just don't use it as often as I really should. I have the top tier PS +, so most games I want to play I don't need to buy.
