I know this is 2 years old but Dee may still see it and be able to clear up a question or 2. Firstly , thankyou from steering me away from the surefire /Quik bearing press. Nothing more frustrating than a tool that bends on the first use. Would have thought that a press made by a skate / bearing company would have their press sorted out to be strong enough to do its job. Now its concering that the Bont press will not do your Cory skate 62mm wheels as the Bont ballistics 92a derby wheels are 40mm×60mm and 2mm is a hares breath in the difference of your Cory wheels and it dosent look like that 2mm difference from my Bont wheels would scrape by. Does your powerdyne press have the capacity to do your Cory skate wheels ? Its a bit crappy that the Bont press dosent even fit Bont wheels, well this one and that is where I lead into my 2nd question. Do you know if they have upgraded their press since to take wider wheels? In this house hold we have skate boarders, quad skaters and my yougest just got her first seriouse trick scooter, away with the toy quality scooters that the sealed bearings out last the scooter so bearing changes will be a thing for her now . ill probably have to find a press that can do scooter wheels too so the Powerdyne press is out due to the lack of capacity for higt and this Bont one is out too due to the lack of room to do wider wheels. Bont must surely know that their press dosent fit all of their wheels in it by now and fixed that oversight or is it that this is the inline press and they sell a quad skate press aswell that has a wider copacity but dosnt cater to a taller wheel size? What your thoughts Dee on this and is there better presses out now, 2 years on as ive been stuck doing all these wheels by hand and we have a seriouse case of wheel envoy in this house with all of us having several sets of wheels each to have the right dogs for the right job , ie: i have just for my quads 101a's for ramp and bowl skating all the way down to 79a's for trail skating and a few other sets in between for diffent activities , same with my daughter's and my boards and now we have a scooter in the mix that im sure will get all techie with her wheels and want diffent wheels for street skating as a softer DR and park skateing will be a harder DR .

I have the golden Bont press in the video for my inlines, my bearing maintenance would be sooo tedious if I was using hand tools, and I think the bearings pop in straighter when pushed in with the press.

Do these also work with the 8->6mm spacer models? Had the Gryptool but it's made cheaply. Tried using a spacer which half works but not nearly as well as a 1/4" hex to 1/2" adapter and a mallet over a dish. Thumbs usually ok but after a crush incident have learned it's a pain any other way.

i got 404 errors for all product pages. thanks for sharing these tools though. i will be looking into them. they seem helpful and look nice. for the Bont press, it says that it is for 110 and 125. is it those two sizes exclusively? i think in the video you said it works for all normal inline sizes. i want one for around the 76mm range
@DeezSkates

Anything smaller than 125 will fit, but for the small sizes you may have to hold the wheel in place.

want to also add, for people who may be looking into presses: yeah don’t waste your time getting the black Sure Grip one either, that doesn’t have the “Qube” logo on it. that one is probably worse lmfao…. It doesn’t even pull bearings… plus, lube up those hubs y’all! 😎

Hello can you make a video on adjusting trucks front and back. Im getting back into skating and beginning to shuffle and dance so Im trying to find my preference. I've found that the surface from floor to floor gives me a different feel in my skates Like they loose grip or feel slippery. Also when should wheels be changed for a new set of wheels. Once the lines are worn off is it time to change them? Thank you

Is this press compatible with large electric longboard wheels? My meepo uses 110mm wheels
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates Жыл бұрын
I would measure your width and diameter and contact Bont with this question. The diameter shouldn’t be too much, but it’s hard to say with the width of long board wheels. The best answer will come from the manufacturer.

What is the widest tire this press will accept. I have an electronic skateboard with 115mm diameter by 63.5mm wide tires. It's the width is what im concerned about. Thanks all.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 2 жыл бұрын
I can’t say for sure what the exact max width is, but what I can say is the blue tire I had trouble getting through it is 44mm with maybe 2 mm added doe to the core’s center protruding from the back. I would contact Bont directly and see if they can provide some insight. If I had to guess I’d say your wheels will be too wide, but maybe I’m wrong.

You don't need that. Using a tool like the Rollerblade pro tool you can always easily wiggle the bearing in. Only if you try to ram it in it will be hard. A press would be useful when installing bearings on aluminum hubs.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 5 ай бұрын
Exactly. And I have many aluminum hub wheels. So why not use it on every other wheel? Because it makes things way easier and faster. I can swap a whole set of bearings into different wheels in under 60 seconds. AND it’s much less likely that you’ll have tolerance issues. Cannot even tell you how many people contact me having problems with a wheel not wanting to roll correctly in an inline skate and it turns out they didn’t have the bearings pressed in quite enough because they did it by hand. This device completely removes that problem because it presses them in evenly and precise in a way you cannot do by hand.

I have had this press for a few months now. In my opinion one design flaw from this press is that it pushes the inner ring of the bearing instead of the outer ring. Most of the bearings won't sit flat on the hub, so I have to use another tool to finish the job. I thought it was just me but Leon confirmed it. See this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ2qo397bpKtosk
@DeezSkates

Interesting… I double checked mine after reading this comment and can only confirm that the Bont press I have pushes both inner and outer. I have not personally experienced the problem you describe. I’ll check out Leon’s video when I get time. Thanks for sharing!

Well. Couldn't wait to get back home to measure the diameter on both sides of the press. It came out to be approx 15 mm. I looked at your video again and realized the cylinders on your press look bigger and probably are about 21 to 22 mm in diameter which is right about the same as the outer bearing ring. I'm calling Bont!

Buyer beware. I ordered a Bont Bearing Press after seeing this video, the walls that support the wheels while pulling the bearings are far too narrow, they cut into the metal wheel cores and damge the wheels and the press itself, it is a huge design flaw, the tool works ok for plastic wheels but is not useable for most metal cored wheels. Going through warranty process with Bont now. The Wicked bearing puller is a better much cheaper option for just now, at least it doesn't damage the wheels.

No one removes their bearings often enough to necessitate buying a bearing press. I could see skate shops needing it, but not individuals.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 5 ай бұрын
That depends entirely upon the individual. There are many of us who have multiple skate setups that need regular cleaning or have modular setups where we are regularly swapping frames and wheels. Not to mention that any skater who uses aluminum hubs will require a bearing press to remove and press them because it simply cannot be done by hand tools due to tolerance and precision.

@@DeezSkates The early days of rollerblading didn't have so much marketing gimmicks designed to make people part with their $ by claiming they NEED something or other for a narrow hypothetical situation. Anyone who 'has multiple skate setups that need regular cleaning or have modular setups where we are regularly swapping frames and wheels' would appreciate a simple portable small hand tool that can do it all. I can agree with 'Why you will want' rather than 'Why you need' a bearing press.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates 5 ай бұрын
I understand there are certain situations where that may work, and that if you’re just into rollerblading that it’s real easy to pop bearings out of small wheels with plastic hubs, but that isn’t the whole of skating. When rollerblading was in its early days, quad skating was well established and quad speed skaters were using these presses to deal with aluminum hub wheels. I’ve never in my 36 years of skating found a hand tool that can effectively pull bearings from it. You literally HAVE to have a press if you’re a quad speed skater. That platform is what I started on in childhood and I’ve always preferred aluminum cores to plastic. Many of my setups have aluminum wheels. And now aluminum is more common in inline than it has been in the past. My thinking is, if I can’t do without it certain setups, then I happen to have it around for all setups and it makes popping and pressing a full set an under 60 second job.

@@DeezSkates great point. I agree. Aluminum hubs must be difficult with hand tools.
@DeezSkates
@DeezSkates Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I learned the hard way years ago that they’re impossible to insert without a press. Even with other methods that you can use with plastic hubs, like pressing it by hand on a roller skate axle against the base.. ended up destroying the precision of some very expensive bearings that way. 😞 When I was a kid, there was a bearing press bolted to the skate counter in my local rink and I always had access to it.. so I just didn’t realize yet how essential it really is for aluminum hubs.

I mean, *some* hubs can be easy to get bearings out of, but for anyone who has high end roller skate wheels with metal hubs? Good luck with that. I’ve been using aluminum hub speed skate wheels for over 30 years and never met a set that was even possible to pull bearings from by hand, let alone easy.
