Can you do a video on how to know if you need a bigger alternator so I don't fry my electrical system in my 2018 car. I feel this is overlooked nowadays. I want big subs with big power which needs a big amp. I don't know how to go about it without messing up my electrical system. How do I know what the biggest amp my current electrical system can handle safely. There are some videos about this but since I'm not a full time car audio electrician I never understand what they are actually saying. We need a simple step by step process. This is why many do not buy more powerful amps nowadays.

I have a PCM module (US Alernators) that pins voltage at 14.8 when system is on, but throws up a "check charging system" notification every time I start my car. That's kind of annoying. Can these circumvent those error notifications?

Can this unit be used to dial DOWN voltage? I have a 370 amp Mechman alternator and it is great 99.9% of the time. Its a 2 pin unit and was on my 2012 Duramax 6.6 diesel Silverado. I've taken it off because upon start up of the engine, the voltage fluctuates WILDLY for about 30 seconds to a minute or so. I've seen the voltage spike into the 17v area during this time. It settles back to around 14.8v after a minute or so, but during that time, all sorts of weird stuff happens.... Dash lights for things like BATTERY, CHECK TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK STABILITRAK, etc as well as the speakers make loud "crackling" sounds, like someone has applied power to them! I'm currently using a smaller 145 amp alternator (not a Mechman) and have not been having any of those issues. I love the Mechman, but am concerned it will harm my two Lithiumax Race9 starter batteries.

Good day am having another type of problem.. In my 2002 honda accord I put a DB electrical 220 Amp alternator in but why my sound system is on my voltage bumps up to 16.5 or 17.1 the drops back to 14.4. It does this numerous times and the amp goes in to head unit goes into protect mode unroll the voltage decrease... With you regulator socked this or control the voltage robot doesn't go that high and burn up my system...

Question, I have 4 Sundown SD-4 12s on a SFB-3000. I'm trying to get my mids and highs together. I have 4 DS18 Pro-X6BM, 2 DS18 Pro-TW420, and adding a DS18 Pro-XBM6.4. I bought a SFB-500.4 to run everything. Is this ok, should I buy multiple amps for mids and highs? Space is kinda a issue, because its going under a truck seat. The subs are behind the seat. So the amp rack and extra battery is going under seat.

question, the jp23 stopped playing for a while and the temp light was on, but it was at 100 degrees on the remote. this was the first time playing it with the back seats up usually theyre down and it will get even hotter than 100 degrees and it has never temporarily cut off. so im not sure if it was cause i had the seats up even though it wasnt too hot on the remote, or if it was detecting the subs temp? which also werent hot barely warm on the dust cap theyre 2 audio pipe bd4 12s at .5 ohm on the jp23

I have a js alternator 320a and I'm running it in a 91 jeep Cherokee that is already regulated by my ecm and it is severly cutting back my voltage at times, will the mechanic external voltage regulator work well with my Js brand alternator. Hello JP, I’m new to the car audio, and I’m running 2 Soundstream x5.12 with the txp1.12000d amplifier. I have two agm batteries one is the starter and the other is the house battery. What would be the right way to wire them up. For now I am still using the stock alternator. Which is installed in a 2015 Silverado 1500.

You should have got a lithium bank made instead of those batteries. It’s cheaper in the long run and supports WAYYYYYY more watts

I have a 390 alternator internally regulated. Can an alternator shop take out the internal regulator so I can use the external? My volts start at 15 on stertup but drop. Sometimes Down to 12.5. I drive a 18 Colorado 2.5 Just bought the jp43 amp. I have two bAtteries done the big three. Please help

Sounds like you need a smaller belt for the alt. I had same issues with my 320 alt until I got a smaller belt and now I’m at 14.9 in idle. I only drop to low 14s when I’m demoing but I am also running 40 ah of ying long lto so that helps alot

Amplifiers usually made for 14.8 at the most. I mean if people want to run 17 18 volts why not just run 48 volts or something. It doesn't make sense to me. They are designed to run lower. I mean you could go crazy and build an amplifier to handle 200 volts or something but would it actually make it better?

I have a 390 js in a 08 ford fusion and it would not send volts right at all I purchased a adjustable voltage regulator from us alternator I can make it 12.4 all the way to 15.5 without the regulator it would bounce 12.9 13.5 13.7 .13.3 and that was idle and no load or reved these things are awesome JP man I have been asking you about them blue waffles for some years now tha ks for the info

You don’t need any of this ! Sorry jp but I was chasing my tail trying to figure out what system to get to bump my voltage . Then I had a major duhh moment I’m running a 75 cent$ diode on the alt sensor wire with a switch volts are 14.8-.9 with it on , with it off 14.3-.1 . Ran this set up on stock alternator and high output 320amp alt. Will work with any alt with no modifications. This stuff dose the same thing as just using a diode it just lowers the voltage on the sensor wire. I would bet the plug in dongle from mech has just a diode in it! Pick the diode do you want to achieve target voltage. i used one that drops .5 volts

@@natetrejo2605 the diode method will work with any alternator just find out witch one is the sensor wire.also if you need high amp alternators get them from Tuscon alternator they are the same if not better quality than way over priced mechman at a fraction of the cost i dont know what there prices are now bit i got a 320amp alt for just 400$ no one can beat there market and have the quality they do and they have a wider selection...usually if they dont have it they make it unlike mech. also using the diode method you dont want to bump voltage to much you can.. but the more you do the hotter it will run. droping .5 volts on the sensor wire is no problem/(lower the voltage the higher the output) . if you cant tell mechman pissed me off lol

I ordered a "Excessive Amperage" alternator direct from the manufacturer. Couldn't find my application on your page. I'm not upset about that. What does concern me though is there are quite a few videos essentially saying those alternators are, let's just say, defective. Now, with that being said, you, being one of their distributors, do you, Jonathan Price, stand behind their product? As far as quality and reliability goes? I haven't seen you do any videos promoting "Excessive Amperage" on your channel.

I would use caution buying anything from Down4Sound, I have used them for a couple years and recently ordered a 1/0 OFC amp kit along with a 4 gauge OFC amp kit and 6' of 8 gauge OFC speaker wire. My order said it was at my door via email and when I got home it was gone, I believe someone stole my package. I contacted D4S and let them know what was going on and I am basically being told I'm on my own and they will not replace it. I always had respect for this company but now I will never order from them again.
