Pirate101 is a pirate based MMORPG Game with a turn based combat system where you can customize your character and your companions to tackle on adventures or maybe even build your own house. Pirate101 released in 2012 as a sister MMO to Wizard101 and a question people frequently ask is: Is it worth starting Pirate101 in 2023? This is my review.

What’s weird is I just got back onto pirate101, I played this when I was like 10, and now I’m 20, just randomly thought ‘I once liked that game’ got on it and was COMPLETELY shocked that it’s not just completely dead. Super nostalgic

Yup, its also way better now because we can actually keep playing the game. I remember making so many new characters everytime I hit the paywall and couldn't progress further lol. Now I can keep going without begging my parents to buy the membership

The game is very expensive. The full game costs around 180$

i would like to be made clear, they had plans for the game but due to a massive funding issue back around 2015-2016, KI was forced to lay off about 60 people which for them was a massive percent of their company. and in an effort to save money they doubled down on their cash cow (wizard101) and basically layed off the entire pirate staff. if you were a key person on pirate101 staff that made the game great you now work on wizard. (they moved the lead write of pirate over to wizard around this time, which soon after received massive praise for the story of empyrea.)

Actually it was the old CEO who pushed for them to invest in mobile games and it was him/the higher ups who singlehandedly caused pirate to be abandoned. Luckily he if not all of them are gone. Most of the rest of KI actually seem to care about pirate but care can only go so much when you're not allowed to work on something and don't have a proper team. Then the layoffs happening was just the nail in the coffin at the time. Most of the people that worked on pirate or contributed were fired with a select few remaining in the company like ratbeard. Hence why they said nobody knew how to make skyways on the current team a little while back Now that we have a community manager who cares for the game and new team growing/in training, as well as another company's overseeing and approval for updates, we'll see a resurgence or at least a lot more updates than just 0-1 a year

i absolutely love pirate101. i tried it when i was younger but i enjoy it so much more as an adult. the story is phenomenal and i love all of the companions and their personalities. truly my comfort characters. the fighting style is so cool; the areas can get confusing with a lot of running between skyways but it's okay. my favorite area is the haunted skyway and the captain blood dungeon; that was when i really started adoring the game because i was just mind blown with the story. it felt so realistic. i really hope they come out with new worlds for this game!!!

I play the game at age 12, now that I am in my 20s, I just realized how dark pirate101 really is. But I still love the game more than wizard101.

I saw this comment from another video but what they said was that they loved the pirate101 story so much more than wiz because it was more personal to you rather than just trying to save the whole spiral (Like what wiz basically is)

I think Kingsile should test out all the ideas that they are hesitant to do on Wizard101. It makes sense cause they abandoned it anyway. They could make the game free for example and instead revamp the crown shop, introduce something new like a pass idk. It would just make sense atleast in my head. If the ideas play out well why not implement them into wizard101

It would be nice to see the membership gone and just pay for the game, they could still keep the free to play area it'd just be like a trial. All in all I hope the game gets more updates.

I played w101 for over 10 years, spent hundreds to possibly even thousands of dollars, met my current boyfriend of 4 years (practically my husband to me at this point), even created a discord server for it as well. But the wizard 101 combat just can't beat pirate 101 to me. I absolutely love pirates and I love getting to sail in the ships. This game absolutely deserves a revival and i'm so excited to see people come back to it

I'm trying to play Wizard101 with my son and I heard about Pirate101 completely by accident. At first, I was like, no way that game exists, otherwise I would know about it from the Wizard101 launcher or something. It's as if they do not want people to know about this game.

"the devs ABANDONED us" why do people get mad when a company stops spending money on a game that costs them more than they make? It's business. It's like they believe these companies should keep the server alive for hardly anyone and spend all the money it takes just to satisfy like 5 people. It didn't make money, they stopped putting money into it, lucky they even left the servers up. Never understood that mentality

Thinking I might be a little bit slow I love wizard 101 from the bottom of my heart always though pirate 101 looked like shit but I love pirates all things pirates I might have to give it a shot after I finish wizard 101s story

I would say I definatly love pirate101, its gameplay is a nice change of pace from wiz and its story is great, I would love it more if not for the ship combat, i've always thought it was a slog and with them making you fight so many ships in collect quests, it can be a hassle, other than that its a great game

You either pay the membership for all zones or buy them permanently with crowns yes, like how Wizard101 does it :)

If it wasn’t for the fact that you can’t get permanent mount for free unless you finish the game basically I would play pirate

You're going to be spending money to be able to play the whole game. Might as well just use some of the crowns to get a mount.

The reason why people left pirate when we got all our pirate to max gold to max companions to max first max level was 65 then 70 look how long pirate been out and they just add more to the story and yet no new worlds people left because they see at the time they was doing nothing to pirate little updates changes that where not need it's sad because it they balance it out between pirate and wizard people would still be playing pirate now after they add a new world in wiz if they took a break to work on pirate the game would been in the second arc right now going on to it's 3 arc.
