For Christmas 2022 I created a 20 page book of photos my father took in the 1950's of me and my siblings at Christmas over a number of years. I gave it out as gifts to my family. The photos I scanned a number of years ago and required a great deal of work to clean them up for printing.

Over the last few years my brother and I, from opposite sides of the world, had a monthly photo challenge. We took turns suggesting a theme, sometimes concrete sometimes conceptual. At the end of each month we submitted three photos for our joint critique. At the end of each year we selected our favourites from each others photos and had them printed and bound in similar fashion to yours. Aside from the fun we had, the most interesting aspect was the changes from year to year as we developed and progressed. It's quite eye opening to look back on and ponder. I'd highly recommend anyone to print and keep their photos. Great vid, thanks for posting.

My wife gave me the gift of framing 9 of my pictures in a 3 by 3 grid at the beginning of last year. We're currently in the process of picking our favorites of the pictures I've taken over the past year. I think it's not so different from what you describe but even more selective and ultimately disposable. Creating books that can remain on the cover table or book shelf is another great idea.
@FilNenna Жыл бұрын
I think the more selective the better - it makes you really think about which images stand, or mean the most. Great idea. And when you swap pictures out, they can go in a shoe box of prints for people to leaf through every now and again. I enjoyed doing that with my parent's photographs.

Now I have to make a photo book, Actually, I need to go back and play catch up and make photo books for the past few years! Great video, thank you for sharing.

Absolutely, 100%! Photography for me is all about the print. I have a great printer, the pro 1000, and I have a small gallery where I can display my work. I don't put very much online anymore. I have used some book publishing services, but recently I treated myself to a spiral binding machine. What a blast! This allows me to create all kinds of projects, seamlessly from start to finish. My favorite is the eight and a half by five-and-a-half picture story book. Very gratifying! Nothing compares to holding your work in your hands and thumbing through it and sharing it with others. I keep a small book of photos in my handbag to show to people I meet. So much better than pulling out my phone. Cheers! Great content!

Glad you liked it! I spent some time recently learning about Japanese Bookbinding. That might be of interest to you, too.

These are great tips. I started putting together some images to make my first book towards the end of last year. I need to get back to that and finish it. I think square crop is a smart choice. Thanks for sharing!

Great video, thank you for making it. I loved everything in the video. On my summer holiday, I discovered surfing photography with a 100-300mm zoom lens. You have convinced me to make a book with my surfing photos. Thank you.

Thank you for a great video, you make me think deeper about photography. I had a landscape book of beach photos printed for Christmas. It was about 40 pictures from trips over a few years. I really enjoy flipping through the book and seeing images that are sort of lost on the hard drive. You have convinced me to try a square book late this year.
@FilNenna Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video! I found square helps me to get a good crop when I mix landscape or portrait orientation pictures, but use what honors your pictures the most. Let us know how the new book works out.

I've only made one book so far, and it was a black and white landscape book. I made a few mistakes on it, but I'm eager to do one of my portraits soon. I don't have so many to choose from, but I guess a small book will be possible. The idea of cropping my images into squares didn't appeal to me so much, but know it makes sense. Thank you again for this fine video.

Square is a personal preference - you should of course do what honors your pictures the best.

@@FilNenna Thank you, and yes it is. But I think it's a great idea. On portraits is probably also easier as on landscapes. Have a great day

Even for amateur digital, caveat of this - don't keep photos, that have any emotional significance to you, locked on you personal PC, and don't upload everything - it must be concise act of selecting and reviewing everything.

Exactly right. It’s important to keep what you want to remember, and what you want to be remembered for!
