I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard someone say they wish they had more willpower to be able to quit sugar. But here’s the thing: it’s an actual physical addiction and the food industry strives to get us hooked on sugar. So, it’s not about willpower, it’s about biochemistry. The great news is that we can reset our biochemistry and those sugar cravings and take back our health. The more you avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates (which just turn into sugar in your body) the more your body recognizes the natural sweetness in healthy foods like blueberries or even a red bell pepper.
My guests on this episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, Keegan Allen and Tom Hopper, have both been through the sugar struggle, and they’re here to share their inspiring stories of overcoming the addiction to discover their most vibrant health.
Keegan is an American actor, musician, photographer, and author. He’s known for his main role as Toby Cavanaugh on the Freeform series Pretty Little Liars. Allen's passion in his younger years tended towards photography, cinematography, and other roles behind the camera. Tom is an English actor. He has appeared as Sir Percival in Merlin, Billy Bones in Black Sails, Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones, and Luther Hargreeves in Netflix’s new show The Umbrella Academy.
This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox and chili.
ButcherBox makes it super easy to get humanely raised meat that you can trust by delivering it right to your doorstep. ButcherBox is committed to humanely raised animals that are never given antibiotics or added hormones and since they take out the middleman you get extra savings. ButcherBox is now gradually welcoming new customers due to increased demand, but only if you’re on the waitlist! So reserve your spot today at ButcherBox.com/..., and you’ll get an email when they’re ready to take your order.
With the summer heat creeping up this is the perfect time to improve your sleep with a cooler bed and support your overall wellness routine at the same time. Right now, chili is celebrating Christmas in July with the gift of 20% off any sleep system. Just go to chilitechnology... and enter code HYMAN20 at checkout to get 20% off any chili sleep system until July 8th.

In the sixties my dad would not let us kids watch TV or eat any sugar or processed food. I appreciated it very much once I became an adult but as a child you don't understand why you are a cultural freak and it is a lonely life, forever, because you have not had that programming - culturally speaking. I'm happy for young people that there are some who are starting to grasp the level of manipulation on behalf of media and industry to control human behavior - to their financial benefit and humanity's and Gaia's detriment. Good luck, young men, with your mission. And thank you Dr. Hyman for another brilliant presentation.

I did an elimination diet 7 years ago and quit sugar. I lost 40 pounds in the first four months without exercising and after exercising after two years lost over 100 pounds kept it off. Once you stop being addicted to sugar you stop craving it. You just have to get through that phase where you want it so badly. And when doing a detox for pathogens including parasites, candida and fungus is you will often crave sugar as well which I experienced. It took me a full year to implement the elimination diet and completely take it out but it was so worth it and I won’t go back. There are healthy natural forms of sugar that you can eat and in time you won’t know the difference and enjoy them just as much in moderation like raw honey, maple syrup and coconut sugar.

Agreed! I just sent the link to my much younger brother so he can share it with my 16-year old nephew. Both are most definitely sugar addicts. They would never listen to me, a senior lady of 65, but those young men talking to Dr. Hyman are walking visual testament to the power of whole food. Good for us, the adults trying to spread the word.

So I hear the complaints about sugar and the constant stories, but you never ever describe the “how” to get off in ANY of your videos. It’s almost like they are just to sell your vitamins and such, Why can you have 5 min videos that get to the point????? Why is every video 1-2 hours :( :( :( let’s be real no one has time for hours and hours when it’s just anecdotal stories instead of “here is how”….. just my 2c

And I'm feeling great but at Home I'm around parents who are always cooking all the time I get temptation but I'm still fighting my cravings to save myself. I m not doing for weight loss but wish to continue it as long term goal to see the difference in a bigger picture.

Ancestrally, we obviously ate seasonally, is there a list of what is better for different seasons? you mentioned winter being a season for more fats in your diet, hearty type food and I'm guessing salads, cold vegetables, even cold soups in the summer are there specific fruits and vegetables we should focus on per season helping with whatever environment we live in, hot or cold season.. Did that make sense???

Are there any nutrients left in the soil after thousands of years of farming? In England there aren't.
@natesj6105
@natesj6105 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course! Mulching (leaves and woodbark) the soiling and manure promotes the soil worms, etc which put nutrients in the soil. Plants create themselves, they don't take it out of the soil. what takes it out of the soil is chemicals, (fertilizer) which kills the nutrient creating worms. Plants also help feed the worms when the plants die out in the fall, and roots are left in the ground.

So, it's great to flippantly say 'drink unpasteurized', but is there a safe way to do so? (The 1996 Odwalla E. coli outbreak began when American food company Odwalla produced a batch of unpasteurized apple juice using seemingly unblemished fruit contaminated with E. coli bacterium, which ultimately killed a 16-month-old girl and sickened 70 people in California, Colorado, Washington state, and British Columbia, of whom 25 were hospitalized and 14 developed the hemolytic uremic syndrome. Source: wiki). Are there safe alternatives to drinking pasteurized?
