Every day, our brains become compromised through a variety of insults, such as insulin resistance, toxins, and lack of sleep, resulting in neuroinflammation, and even neurodegeneration. Fortunately, there are many things we can do to preserve our cognitive function, including eating an anti-inflammatory diet, exercising, learning new things, and reducing toxin exposure, as explained by Functional Neurologist Dr. Datis Kharrazian.
Also, Dr. Todd LePine discusses the brain’s immune system, namely microglial cells, and neuroinflammation.
Dr. Kharrazian is a clinical research scientist, academic professor, and a Functional Medicine health care provider. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, and a researcher at the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Kharrazian earned a PhD degree in Health Science with concentrations in immunology and toxicology and a Doctor of Health Science degree from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his post-doctoral research training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Kharrazian earned a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences, and a Master of Medical Sciences degree in Clinical Investigation from Harvard Medical School.
Dr. LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine’s focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body. His areas of interest include optimal aging, bio-detoxification, functional gastrointestinal health, systemic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and the neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders. Dr. LePine enjoys skiing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and golfing in the beautiful Berkshires, and is a fitness enthusiast.

I wish Dr. K had more time to show in more interviews or write more books because his knowledge is incredible. I read his books 10 years ago and are really amazing information and resources. My thyroid and brain book are full of post its notes, are like a guide where I need to go to help my clients quite often. I crave more Dr. Kharrazian teachings ☺

Diet is so important. Chronic inflammation from autoimmune disease has in my case been dramatically improved through diet and exercise. It does take commitment but life changing. Gluten free, dairy free and sugar free. Meds can certainly help get inflammation under control and steroids were a lifesaver but they are not a long term solution.

@@RobertWadlow292 He needs more. I’ve been following him for years as well, since he was at U of MI teaching sixties about CIRS. I had it at one point, but it was actually a blessing because my son tried to commit suicide and while I was watching him during the days, since his father works, and I’m retired because of my illnesses that are now under much better control. I noticed he has the same symptoms I had from mold toxicity. It’s been a downward slide because his father has not gotten his house remediated yet, after years of knowing it was dangerous. After my taking him to get checked for mold toxicity, we discovered he had three tick-borne illnesses. Just as those were going to be treated, he got Covid. Lyme and (Long) Covid don’t mix, and now he has an autoimmune encephalopathy, and mast cell activation. It’s all a disgusting nightmare! However, there are no hospitals that understand this, except maybe a functional medicine one like Cleveland Clinic. It takes months to get into one big these guys, and he runs $1,000 per hour, which I would gladly pay to get my son’s health back!

I feel terrible after watching this even though I'm grateful for the excellent information... What chance does someone who can't afford all these tests and exams has of getting real help? So, bottom line is, if you're poor there's no hope. 😢 We all know how mediocre some doctors are, especially if they work within a medical scheme.

I believe help is coming. Pharma is to be exposed. 6000 suppressed cures to be released sand good bye pharma. Frequency healing is coming, scheduling determined case by case. Cost? To be free. Endless tests for profits won't figure in.

Just eat real foods that come from Mother Earth. Dr Hyman says just ask yourself, did God make this or man. If it is man made, put it back and pick up foods that were grown from the earth. You don’t have to be rich! Most food in the produce department is inexpensive. There are thousands of you tube videos on how to make food taste good.

Health is simple. Medicine is designed for profit. Shelley Huskey's advice is good. Get organic, if you possibly can and in any case learn to wash all effectively. Medicine all their tests and pharma crap, all all sucker bait. Your body knows best, is run by your subconscious so give it postive message and expect it to do well. DODGE all the fear porn. Research and learn. For one look up 'Forbidden Cures.' which is about suppression of what DOES work. Try Dr Coldwell, and peroxide-only food grade- which oxygenates your body, as does proper breathing and exercise. Germs need an anaerobic and acidic environment to thrive. Negative thoughts are the most acidifying force on the body. AVOID all FEAR PORN, like germophobia! It's all made of LIES. "... especially if they work within a medical scheme." WOW! Yes, you are well on your way. Do not "just accept." Look for answers that work for you. CHEERS.

I agree with @Shelley Huskey in that there ARE things you can do to protect your health. Eat real food (preferably plants), exercise, keep your blood sugar down, strive to learn new things, etc. And there are supplements that also help.

Noting your own body's ractions to foods can help a lot with improving health and lessening pain and inflammation. Some common causes of reactions: - grain based oils, seeds and foods. - bread and the like are a principal one. - too much saturated fat - too much sugar and refined carbs. - high lectin or oxalate containing plants Some do, some don't react to each of these. One has to know your own body and avoid the causes. Yes, often things we love to eat - hard choice - trade off between pain and pleasure. The more you become aware the more you will (relunctantly) let go the bad stuff, especially when you suffer hours of pain for ten minutes of eating "pleasure". I got rid of a lot of pain this way. Just sayin... Keep well. Lot in this vid, wow! Thank you.

I’m diagnosed autistic/ adhd and a lot of physical disabilities that come with that eg EDS & hypotonia.. have also been diagnosed as having autistic catatonia .. on Ritalin & risperidone and I know I’ve always been like this BUT I have a feeling that it’s something wrong (after being a part of the positive autistic community) but I can’t be positive when I’m struggling so SO badly. Some weird unexplainable stuff has occurred and I am so onto trying to ‘get better’ at LEAST get as much better as I once was, but that was me masking too and that was hard; I’d prefer to be cured; I’d prefer to have some quirks like the cool parts of autism, but I don’t want all this inability to speak and basically neurodegeneration, which is what I’d call it. So I’m following in hopes I can do what you’re recommending and for my passed on genes, and received genes .. I wish to cure all of us.

I so appreciate these videos and think we need all doctors and insurance companies to get up to speed with the latest on functional health. Then we need new laws that prevent food companies from designing foods that make us want more all the time with all the added sugar and salt. It is just wrong! You have a choice when you go to the store, purchase wisely and just say no to junk foods.

Could there be a connection to the micro biome for the people who lose their ability to tolerate. Like maybe when people have a significant change to the diversity of their bacteria it cannot perform these functions properly. As an example, it was discovered that people with high blood pressure were using mouthwash daily and killing all of the good bacteria on their tongue which we completely depend on to metabolize inorganic nitrate, that is in a lot of what we eat, into nitride and nitric oxide.
