My kids are watching their Poppy die from LBD and even at 7,5,&2 they are understanding the connection. We don’t do desserts all week and that has helped but the school still rewards with candy and seemingly every Friday there is a birthday and loads of cupcakes full of dyes and sugar. The school tries to have a protocol for healthy snacks but when you need to bring in 30 individually wrapped snacks every month it’s hard to find healthy options. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I agree with the guest that it needs to come from the TOP. Just like I believe him legislation needs to come from the TOP. Some things need a strong command.

I'm the father of a 4 year old little girl. I'm a single father, but I don't allow her to be with my mom without me present because my mother will feed her junk food if I allow her to stay, even if I say to mom don't feed my daughter junk food. She will say "oh it's OK, its not all the time and she'll just burn off all the junk food." Am I wrong for not allowing my daughter alone with her? My number 1 priority is protecting my child. I REFUSE to allow my daughter to grow up with negatively altered growth and higher chance of disease. I don't care what people say.

You're not wrong but it will take a mind shift to help your mom understand the bigger picture. It's not about burning off sugar. She's right- your daughter probably will burn off sugar (regular unprocessed whole cane sugar) BUT that is not what the processed toxic food industry is putting in everything with a barcode. If your mom takes medications ask her when she thinks she'll get off them. Customer for life. It's not a healthcare model- it's sickcare.

Every time I go to Kaiser, the health practitioner I see is shocked that I’m on no meds, like I’m some weirdo. I eat no processed foods or sugar. Instead, I eat ruminant meat, pasture-raised eggs, whole-fat dairy and cheeses in moderation. If I want the rare treat, I enjoy kiwi or oranges. I drink Brita filtered water. I feel great!

I tell my friends who insist they could never tolerate a keto or carnivore eating strategy to just start by eliminating sugary drinks. Then, stop fast foods. Then, reduce processed foods, one item at a time. Check labels and select foods that have no high fructose corn syrup or added sugars. One small step at a time!

A few years back, I thought I'd like to volunteer to work for the American Diabetic Association. But as I dug into it and did my research, I was absolutely disgusted. I decided that in good conscience, I could not align myself with such a group. My ex-husband is diabetic. During a holiday, he was talking about what he was going to eat and I was alarmed! I tried to tell him the repercussions and what might be better choices for him, but he steadfastly refused to listen. He said it was fine because his dietitian said he should have these items. Bread? Juice, all day? Alcohol? I was horrified. How many other people are hearing the same thing he is? It makes me angry!

I am a retired Spanish, English, French teacher who taught for 50 years. Also battled diabetes for 30. As I was so tired of medications, my doctor recommended Ozempic to balance blood sugars and get off insulin. I accepted. It was NOT for weigh reduction. In 5 days, I would have been dead if concerned friends had not called EMS. Does it make one lose weigh? YES In 5 days I lost 30 lbs. I could not eat or drink liquids so my entire GI system was eroded. I had lost so much muscle mass I was unable to stand, walk, turn over in bed. Blood sugar 500. I was a skeleton in loose skin. Through IVs I survived. But during a month in the hospital and rehab, they did not have diabetic food to feed me. And because of the pain in swallowing, even drinking was painful. They did not have any sugar free protein drinks to supplement lack of nutrition. When released, I was carried into my house, carried like a baby and left. Quite obvious I needed to cure myself NOW. Researched and found exactly what you are saying. Completely changed diet. Tested blood to determine what impacted. Ate only those foods. Tossed most of prescriptions, especially for diabetes. Exercised. It has been 5 months. Today I walk and take care of myself. Although it was a nightmare where I was close to death, today I think more clearly and have almost normal blood sugars. I have left out many of the co-existing problems as it was a nightmare. Ozempic is poison. Anyone taking it is trading their soul and health to the devil as no one knows "long term" effects.

Ozempic is not “poison”. It is a GLP-1 agonist…which means it causes the gut to release more of a hormone it already produces. Many people with obesity benefit from having their gut hormones more balanced; they are finally able to respond to food the way naturally thin people do. They can finally feel full and satisfied, rather than always, always hungry. It does the millions of people with the chronic disease of obesity a disservice to refer to a drug that can save their life as “poison”.

I remember telling my group mates I wasn’t really invested in this particular case - you were expected to do your best for each case or the best you could - because pushing Coke for breakfast, snacks everyday and at every meal was absolutely, positively and morally wrong. Fast forward to 2024 and I see I all around me I was - unfortunately-right.

I'm a boomer and am very fortunate that my parents were wa-aaay ahead of the times when it comes to nutrition. Adele Davis's "Let's Get Well" was superseded only by the Bible itself in our house. We were not allowed to eat sugared cereals. We used honey if we needed a sweetener. No sodas unless we had company, and even then it was only 7-Up or ginger ale. No processed foods. We snacked on fruit. I grew into adulthood with zero craving for sodas. I don't like them at all. I'm 120 lbs at 5'5. Good blood pressure. My parents endured pressure from us to let us eat Trix and Frosted Flakes, Tang, Kool-aid, potato chips, but they didn't cave. I'm so thankful to them now.

If you can't stick to a low carb diet, which I couldn't, I recommend The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet book by Donald Hensrud. In this book it recommends whole grains (steel cut oats instead of instant oatmeal as an example), nonstarchy vegetables with every meal, a serving of fruit (I love cantaloupe and oranges) with every meal, and to keep things low in fat. I lost weight on this diet and able to keep most of the weight off after almost three years.

My husband used to have GI issues and now it's rare he has any issues. It usually happens when we're away from home and can't make our own food and end up eating more processed foods. The clothing industry is adding to the problem by promoting the idea - " Your Body is Beautiful, no matter what size" and so call by practice of Upsizing ( which means e.g. former size L is now size M etc.). This leads to believing that the person is smaller than she/he really is.

Brands do it because women are so overly sensitive about sizing and will complain. Women will say a clothing brand runs small just because it doesn't fit them. I have tons of experience in the fashion industry and this is what I see constantly. Men's clothing brands don't do things like that because men don't throw a fit over sizing like women do.

If you raise this issue with senators and congressmen, and indeed, if they acknowledge it as a pressing concern that demands attention, one might expect a significant shift in action. However, if they merely pay lip service to the matter without enacting tangible change, it begs the question: why the inertia? The truth may lie in the realization that these individuals are well aware of the problem but lack the genuine intention to address it. This cynical cycle underscores the urgent need for a transformative shift in governance. It's time to sweep out the entrenched establishment and usher in a new era of responsible leadership. This demands our votes, cast not for the traditional duopoly of Democrats and Republicans, who are all too often beholden to special interests, but for candidates with a fresh perspective and an unwavering commitment to the common good. Just my humble opinion.

44:00 Hyman says, "It [pharma advertising on TV] also influences the doctors." For sure. Just this morning I witnessed an example of that on a Zoom get-together. One of the participants is obese and was talking about how difficult it is to lose weight. Another participant, a doctor, suggested Ozempic. Knowing how dangerous Ozempic is, I pushed back hard. (I'm not a doctor.) The obese woman said she wouldn't use Ozempic, so she apparently (and fortunately) also knows Ozempic is no good. But the unfortunate thing is that other people on the Zoom might now believe Ozempic is an okay medication because A DOCTOR suggested it. 😢
