Sanded acrylic caulk will not hold up in a shower. You'll get 12 months tops in an everyday use shower environment and the acrylic caulk will soften and disintegrate. You need to get sanded silicone color matched caulk from Colorrite. Or use Latasil Silicone color matched caulk from Laticrete.

It’s code in my state that you use silicone in all change of plane. He also shouldn’t be teaching people while he’s still learning the basics himself. Just my opinion.

Spray with dish soap water topically after you caulk and use popsicle sticks - spray the popsicle stick before each swipe

behind my builder caulk is grout. on all seams. I’ve had to replace caulk 4-5 times in 6 years. can’t keep it from getting moldy. it’s a whitish tile shower so really stands out.

Amazing video! Thank you! I need help deciding what to do in the middle of a DIY job. I have removed the old grout at the intersection of the wall tile and acrylic bathtub in our bathroom (where tan color tiles meet the white tub in your video). I may have removed too much though, which has prompted me to stop and ask for input. When I slide a business card in the slot (removed grout depth), I measure more than 1/2 inch, which is deeper than the tile's thickness. Did I take some of the concrete backer board? Any advice on what to do at this point is highly appreciated.

So are you using the grout caulk only as a filler -and then seal with 100% silicone over it or is there no need for that With this method?

He should be using 100% silicone instead of latex. Not sure about laticreates line of grout color match products but if their like the other company’s they should have it in both silicone and latex. Mapei makes both, the latex color match is for outside the shower ( and can be painted)and the silicone is for the inside.

No, you can dig it out with utility knife, put 1/4” backer Rod then silicone grout caulk it.

Appreciate the tip. I’m trying to lear as I go but can’t get that new new look like I want and this little tip is gonna help me out. What if I had a contractor do the grout in the corner and it’s breaking? Do I simply remove it all and apply caulk? Can this be used around the top of the tub and tile meet?

Is this different than regular caulk? I hate the caulk around the base of my shower and it gets moldy quick. People told me I have to use caulk and not grout. Its a tile shower

Yes, it is made by the same company that makes the grout. It is very different than other grouts, including 100% silicon grout.

It amazes me at the end of the video he talks about people cutting corners or not knowing what their doing. Prob didn’t know he was referring to himself.
