What do YOU think about Revelations? Most people seem to not be fans; personally, I like it a lot, and I think the nostalgia overload works for a big finale, but if you disagree I'd love to hear some counter-arguments!
@RonZertnert7 ай бұрын
Revelations is one of the best maps of Black Ops 3, if not the series from a gameplay, layout, and design perspective. The community praised the map until the zombies chronicles pack was announced, then all of a sudden the map became a "smushed together rushed mess" that used the maps that were already in development for chronicles rather than the fun fanservice sendoff it always was. Had chronicles never came out, people wouldn't have changed their opinion. While a point could be made to complain about layout with the bounce pads being the connecting bridge between areas, the areas themselves are incredible and extremely fun to navigate, play, and train in. From a design perspective, the little areas of revelations are some of the best in the series. Oh but the boss fight was a huge disappointment and the finale EE sucked. Obscure EE steps for the sake of being obscure felt inorganic to the map and forced. Shadows fight part 2 is lame. The first part is cool with the changing map, but the boss itself is rather lackluster; especially so when compared to Nikolai or the Keeper. That's about the only downside of the map.

I believe that if BO4 wasn’t going to continue the Aether story and was going to just be Chaos that Rev would have had a more permanent and satisfying ending, but I like the way the story looped back to Origins for the purposes of perpetuating the cycle. From a gameplay standpoint, it’s pretty much designed for pure fun just like Buried was, so it’s perfect for warming up or having chill runs with friends when you’re a bit more across the map or not trying for the egg

this was a very well thought out and articulated video. I felt reassured that you offered criticism while still giving treyarch their due respect when necessary -- when you defended treyarch from claims of being lazy in the design in revelations, but express concerns of laziness in terms of the specialist weapons/shield, it made me sigh in relief a tiny bit
@DanzoLovesEyes7 ай бұрын
I agree with everything here..... except for the easter egg, I've done it multiple times, i've enjoyed it, but it just doesn't make _sense_ Felt as if the devs tried to artificially make it hard to find out about as a 'let's see you solve *this* in under a day you jackasses' All the other eggs made sense story wise, there were hints to guide you on what to do, most obvious one being Sophia in GK, and in DE, you had character quotes telling you what to do, and even in the less clear ones like Shadows you can see the train of thought, but in Rev... 'shoot those graves in the right order, got it? Aight, now there's this small ass rock that'll spawn on the teleport pads, one of the least likley places you'll look, get the keeper there for some reason and then go and eat a sandwich for 5 minutes, done? Aight, throw those arnies in the apothicon's zombie spawn location for no reason, now shoot those random rocks, ' etc etc, You just had to do shit randomly and hope for the best to find out about this egg, and they could have made it better while still keeping the difficulty. They could have made the keeper rock more keeper-like and place it as decoration around all the keeper alters with an obvious spot where it's missing and has a soft blue glow like the teleport pads, they could have shown the reel stuck in the very top of the apothicon and that throwing the arnies shakes it a littlecout of it's place, they could have made the ball of light that flew when you place the kronorium have the shape of 4 eggs, just little things like that. And other than that, it doesn't make sense story wise either, why are Sophia's bones stuck in some random rocks? Why does throwing arnies in the apothicon worm gets you a reel? Why does shooting the graves spawn that rock and why tf is it so important, why do you need to put in the reels to progress the egg? In the other maps, it made sense, you did sacrifices to let the apothicons in in shadows, you helped Sophia in gorod, you travled back in time in de and inputed codes to bring dempsy back, you know why doing such and such step progressed the easter egg in the story. I know that it could all be hand waved away by "The universe is more fucked than a porn star currently" but it isn't.... satisfying. Oh, and Blundell trolled us by telling us that the staffs are returning only for them to appear for 20 seconds in the end cutscene XD.
@whitecliffgames7 ай бұрын
That's 100% valid, I absolutely agree with a lot of that. I like what the Easter Egg represents, and have fun doing it, and like it *as a whole* , but I was just talking on stream the other day about how it has some of the most egregious *individual steps* in how nonsensical they are. You put it perfectly, they could've had a similar level of difficulty, but while also having a sense of progression. The goal for an EE, for me, is that you understand *why* the actions you're taking are solving problems, instead of just shooting black holes at rocks just because that's something to do. And Revelations failed there, completely agree

What I find really odd, is how EVERY SINGLE ONE who looks back on zombies and makes a video about it only ever talks about easter eggs and objectives. My guy... There is a part of the community that plays for high rounds. They have a different perspective entirely than the easter egg crowd that moves on after a year. Revelations is SHIT from a highround perspective, because it's trivial to get a 100 and getting 255 isn't all that hard either. Might as well look at paint dry. Revelations is about as entertaining for someone who wnats to grind rounds as nacht der untoten is for someone that wants to solve a 38 step easter egg.
@sana-chan69123 ай бұрын
Its not that odd. High round players are part of a niche community in relation to the entire zombies community. Not everyone want to hit round 100 in a single game or people aren't just good enough to do it. This channel as well as many others speak for the general community. Its just the way it is. For example, I can talk about marvel movies to almost anyone, but once I mention Dr. Stranglove, no one will bat an eye. Most won't be interested in an old black and white film or Stanley Kubrick. But film enthusiasts praise Kubrick and is very famous within a smaller community.

fantastic video as always. I love Rev a lot, I do feel it is the perfect ending, and while I understand people's frustration at the lack of closure or whatever, it makes perfect use of the cyclical nature of the mode, as well as kind of ending on a friendly wink from the developers. WaW-BO2's tone with characters and story was almost completely farcical and comedic and absurd. Richtofen being comically gay, Nikolai's wives and vodka, the main antagonist being a little girl and her dog fluffy controlling zombies from the moon, most everything to do with Victis, etc. The ending works in two ways. You get the satisfying and emotional ending of Monty and the children being able to live on in safety at the end of the loop in Agartha. Efforts weren't for nothing, that still stands in that timeline forever. But on top of that, you get the satisfaction of finding out Primis were the actual staff 1.0 wielders in the real Great War. I think a lot of people forget now that that was an actual surprise reveal at the time. It makes Origins even more meaningful in retrospect, considering these characters are actually fighting both versions of the Great War. As I said as well, it exists as a wink from the developers as well, it's an epic ending seeing Primis with the 1.0 Staffs, but it's comical as well. Their defiance of Monty through the blood vials means that, yes the stay in existence, but have to go back to the beginning and fight yet again. The unending cycle. While Primis are the heroes, it's not their story, it's Sam and the children's. It's beautifully poetic and much more emotionally resonant than what was done on Tag imo. Anyway, fantastic video. Always nice to see someone complimenting Rev rather than trashing it.

I love that way of looking at the ending, how it works on all levels; I totally agree! You've got the metatextual commentary about the game, while still having something that actually matters emotionally to latch on to, and all wrapped up in something that feels very at home in this game, following the tradition of never giving the most satisfying answers and leaving things open-ended. I absolutely LOVE revelations. One of my favorite BO3 maps. I think it has so many fun training spots, fun lore, nostalgia fun, crazy mash-up of bosses, and (most importantly) it is not hard. You can just hop in and have a great time without figuring out the crazy stuff. I love that about the map. I love the complex Easter eggs, and Zetsubou No Shima is great because of it. . . But I also want a crazy fun map that doesn’t need a ton of set-up. The smoothness of revelations is great, I think it takes skill to make all the maps connect into one.

Agree with everything you said. Love revelations. Also, the Easter egg song is one of my favorites I swear. “The Gift” is such a great zombie killing song

Wooo another White Cliff video. Rev is my favorite Treyarch map and my 2nd favorite zombies map overall, only being behind Spaceland

Its one of the best casual and high round maps. The map falls flat within its easter egg and Originality. I like the concept of meshing together maps but it needed alittle more Originality also. We needed a new wonder weapon or the summoing key specialist. The map is also incomplete from dataminers claiming moon was supposed to be in the map and we were gonna get to fight two bosses chosing between Shadowman and Dr monty according to Craig Houston in Comic con 2018. Its like the new features in Bo4 remakes couldve been in Revelations instead like the Magmagat and the lab from Blood of the dead.

I hope you do a video like this about Leviathan. I know it's a custom map, but it could also be a commentary on the custom zombies community as a whole

i used to be sort of a casual player until i played revelations, which was my first solo round 100. after 5 hours of somewhat tedious gameplay i felt so happy and accomplished, and any time on bo3 i was trying to up prestige master levels i knew i had to just start revelations and farm XP. after my first round 100 i started a quest to get higher rounds on every other map, not very successful with my highests being 80 on moon, 73 origins, 66 kino, 48 der eisendrache, 45 zetsubou and so on... but revelations transformed me from being just passionate about the lore to being passionate about improving my skills and doing all the Easter eggs and getting high rounds. my biggest flex is my bo3 account, with all the easter zombies calling cards and prestige master both on multi and zombies, as well as dark matter. bo3 and bo4 are my favourite games, bo2 being the third favourite for nostalgia reasons as it was the first cod i played consistently from 2013 to 2019

I can't imagine pixel hunting for bones being ant fun. That's not the developers trusting players. That's the developers artificially forcing an Easter egg to take longer than necessary

Dr Monty played Alex, the main character in A Clockwork Orange. A fav feeling zombies brought me, was back on kino hearing richtofens little remarks as you played & interacted w things..seein the FAUST devil painting on the wall & that illuminati lookin floatin pyramid head..it FELT like something way bigger was at play but at that time i knew nothing..we all didnt. It felt like a moment in Rosemary's Baby when it clicked a bit early that something w those old ppl was way off n i was like hm..theres a lot more goin on here😂

2015-2017 were the years. Being a part of the zombies community during 3's lifecycle was.. Ethereal. I don't think anyone, who wasn't there, can really understand the weight and intensity that Rev had, for long time fans. From guns, map layout, characters, voice lines, to even something like reused music that takes you back. Take me back to 2016. I want to relive black ops 3's life all over again. (Also gave us some of the best easter egg songs in any zombies game, Dead Again, Dead Flowers, Dead Ended, and The Gift are gorgeous songs.)

Bo3 was the first zombies I touched tbh, and even then it was a lot of fun. Without the 5 base maps of the game, I'm not sure I'd have ever went back to play chronicles and those maps.

For me, revelations was great. It just felt like... a victory lap, I guess? All the best bits, all the nostalgia, but bringing them up to the level that zombies was at then, which was imo at least, the peak it's ever been at. It might not be my favourite map of all time, or the best designed one, but there's something about it that will always just make me smile, and makes me just glad to be playing zombies, and that's a great feeling in and of itself.

In my opinion, revelations was a lazy mess. There was very little innovation. No new WW. No new sheild. No new specialist. 20% of the map is literally DE which was a dlc in the game already 😭. The only new playable areas are the spawn, and inside the monster. This then led into treyarch only making reimaginings and remasters for the rest of the aether storyline. Beyond lazy and the community ate it up.
