The biggest problem with Young Justice is that they're trying to fit in too many plotlines. They need to spin it off into like 3 other shows to give every story enough time to breathe.

Yeah - I think this definitely the most valid criticism of the show. It’s a shame they’ve had to fight so hard for renewal; that makes me think they never stood a chance at getting a spinoff. I can’t really blame them too much, though. It seems like they’ve got this epic saga planned in their head, and they’re doing their utmost to see as much of it told as they can.

My problem was that it ruined suspension of disbelief. When you only have 1 character "die" over the course of 3 seasons, then you have a main character introduced that dies every few episodes, it makes you question why other characters who have been just as inexperienced as her don't die nearly as much.

@@Anubusmami That's the problem. The fact that she was the ONLY main character to sustain serious or fatal injuries, especially once every few episodes, took you out of the moment and made you realize how much plot armor other characters had. Even in season 1 which was limited by Cartoon Network, Wally got a broken arm that was shown in multiple episodes, highlighting the fact that the characters weren't invincible. While Halo had her neck snapped, throat slit, and other fatal injuries I can't recall and no one else even suffered a broken bone.

I like how you placed emphasis on your perspective on how you viewed the 3 (and a half) seasons without breaking because I did the same, and agreed that the criticisms of Outsiders were blown out of proportion. The only fan interaction I had at the time was a uni friend who hated season 3, but I didn't truly get that when I got caught up (a week before season 4 began) One of my favorite aspects of Outsiders was Artemis' characterization, and how subtle her grief with Wally is until that breaking point in episode 25. It is very on par with what she told Bart in S2's epilogue, that she needed "distance," only a day after losing Wally in regards to her costume change. Upon rewatching episodes (as well as the extension into S4), it seems that she views her work as a coping mechanism, and thus was able to avoid outright confronting her loss until she is posed with the decision on how she wants to move on with her life in response to the developed tension between her and Will. I also think it's interesting that you view Wally's appearances in S3 as purely symbolic, because while I do, I view his manifestation in episode 25 as a hint, merely because of the way they make a point that Zatanna and M'Gann were lying to Artemis in order to achieve the desired outcome, and would perhaps never reveal the lie for what it is. It's something that just didn't sit right with me, and between that, and Flash comics, it's really the only lead I have. I feel like these rose-tinted illusions of Wally are there to highlight the perspective character's memories of him, as a contrast to his characterization in S2; distant and uncooperative with Dick's leadership methods. Because if they remembered him that well enough, they'd know he would totally be against the formation of Batman Inc. in the same way that Conner was.

I never wanted to watch the show, because I was still yearning for a continuance of Justice League Unlimited. After watching the show after its long hiatus, I was shocked at its depth and voice talent. I, for one, have been a Shazam fan since the 1970s and was delighted at the Captain's appearance within the storylines. I was hooked when I saw his character's appearance in the show. In time I came to appreciate the show's writing and the courage of its showrunners in developing on-screen characterizations that are current in today's society. As the show progressed, I became concerned that some of its subject matter would be offensive to 'lite-hearted' viewers. But with every episode, I came away knowing that even if they were, the message of each episode was displayed without apologies or censorship. The series, in every iteration, has something for everyone regardless of age, social-economic background, ethnic ancestry, and religion. Few cartoons can say that. Robotech was the first cartoon to explore many of these topics and do it well. Justice League tried in many ways but stopped short in fear of backlash. Even if the show is never renewed, it will stand the test of time, and I predict it will become the gold standard for future cartoons. Here's hoping we see more seasons in the future and a reckoning within the Shazam Family. Something I think will 'rock' the series and make us all (whether pro or against) come to appreciate the show's quality and thoughtfulness.

People back in the day complained plenty about season 2 with its expanded cast, reduced screen-time for the OG 6, timeskip and general shift from character driven storylines to something more plot focused so with season 3 continuing on that trend it's not surprising reception was mixed. I think has less to do with nostalgia but rather the show got too ambitious for it's own good, there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to craft a large world with a sprawling narrative and many characters but when it gets to point where with so many threads it can all start to feel disjointed and arbitrary and really hurt an audiences overall investment in what's going on. YJ still a good show I enjoy but I think how it's structed prevents it from being a great one.

As someone who watched the original run of the first 2 seasons, and then rewatched all 4 back to back, I thoroughly agree that the time skip of 1-2 is definitely most jarring. I actually didn't care much for halo's character and meta human trafficking story at first, but really enjoyed Black lightning's character and how he was the bridge between trafficking and the ethics of Justice League and think he kinda wove two plots more than others, seeing them as separate plot lines. I also loved the Wally legacy still being alive and as much as I would want a revival do agree it was never about teasing his return, but seeing the team live on without him. The Beast Boy and Granny Goodness story, though it did feel was most disconnected, was my favorite part of S3, just because Gar is great and what would follow in S4.

I watched Young Justice 1,2,3 back to back and the biggest deviation was 1 to 2 because it went from these focused team to this very large team that did not always team up all together. The only issue I have with Violet this point is that the Muslim point on their character feels very milquetoaste and flat, and for me the scene with Gabrielle's mother in Season 4 only made this worse, the conversation did not feel like a natural one. I suppose I could grant that they weren't wanting to get too deep into the actual faith matters, but for goodness sakes Khalid felt like such a more legitimate Muslim character to me and he got like a single scene where his faith is explored, and that was almost purely for the parallels with the Catholic Zatarra. I always saw season three as an expansion on season two in many ways, for example the themes: the lies and plotting behind their teammates backs, meta human trafficking, media and publicity. It also unfortunately expanded on the problems that the second season had - mainly that it had too many characters and not enough screen time for all of them. That and the feeling that the show is trying to do too much at the same time. But it was all there since season two, so lets stop pretending season three ruined the show. People had this ideal version of the show based on season one, and didn't realize that's not what the show was trying to be anymore. The show changed directions, whether you like it or not. Personally, I liked the change. I prefer plot oriented stories better, and it's hard for me to stay interested in shows that are in episodic format. And I found myself very invested in some of the new characters, so I liked season two a lot. Season three was the same, but with more plot points that made it harder to follow, worse pacing and even less of a focus on the og six. I still enjoyed it a lot, though, and it actually had many elements I enjoyed more than in it's predecessor: For example, I think the new main cast (Halo, Brion, Foreger, etc.) was better developed and utilized, I liked how we got to see everyone find out and react to the fact they've been lied to (something I felt was missing from season two), and I think it ended better. (Endgame was pretty underwhelming imo) About the Halo thing: I did feel it was kind of misleading to have her wear a hijab despite not actually being a Muslim herself, but I really liked how they went about that in season four so it's not a problem anymore I guess.

I agree with you, Kiki. I also enjoyed season 3 a lot, probably even more than 1 and 2. I loved how seasons 2 and 3 went big and ambitious and expanded their cast and story instead of staying in "safe terrain" by trying to maintain the staus quo of season 1 for as many seasons as possible. In that way, 2 and 3 reminded me of Justice League Unlimited (a legendary show), because both shows took a prestablished status quo and drastically altered it so that far more ambitious plot lines, themes, and character arcs could be explored. And, while seasons 2 and 3 do have their problems, I think that, like JLU, they managed to tell a grand, epic story while diving into the philosophies of superheros and how far they were willing to go to save people. And just one more note, I know that the OG cast didn't get quite enough screen time in season 3 of young justice, but I think that what most people don't notice is that the addition of a new cast allowed the OG members to become mentors, which helped to complete some of their character arcs. For instance, Superboy was completely over his rage and helped brion get over his, while Artemis had freed herself from her father's grip and was able to help Tara do the same to escape Deathsabuse enotional abbuse. Honestly, I am surprised that more people aren't talking about all those ways that the new cast helped to showcase how far the OG cast had come in their character arcs, and how they pushed them even further still.

Love your videos! Alternate opinion: The issues people have with Outsider’s “wokeness” might not be that they’re racists and bigots. It may be that the pacing is so bad that Outsiders doesn’t have time to develop themes naturally around events that show why the themes are important to the characters and how the characters come to accept them. Instead, it has to grind multiple scenes to an unnatural stop to insert a speech about a social issue that holds no bearing to the events happening in the scene. Naturally, this could come across as preaching to the audience and happen so often that it ruins the few occasions they integrate social themes well. You don’t have to always have to jump straight to the people are racist, dinosaur, hateful, bigots response.

I was exstatic when season 3 was anouced cause it was one of my "childhood shows" and I loved seasons 1 and 2. Butttt I will admitt season 3 rubbed me the wrong way. (I did enjoy season 4 a bit more with the focus back on the origial members but i digress.) One of the first things like others that threw me off was with 9 different story lines being shoved into 10 minutes. Ofc theres always been many story lines, but it felt like we were supposed to keep up with all of them equally vs having 2 or 3 main with some subplots. The other thing that threw me off was the change of manking wayyyy more dark. I would say this goes for other shows too but when a show gets rebooted, the writers are trying to make it more up to date. But I woulds have to say one of the things I liked about s1 and s2 was that you could take on heavier subjects but still make them lighthearted. That also brings on my personal issue with enteranment today of when im watching a tv show of a movie, it's to escape reality. I dont want some show throwing the world's problems in my face while i try to watch a show about teenage superheors. The plot of some episodes felt like they didn't amount to much, and through that we skipped over so many characters that I would have loved to catch up with in that time-frame. I admittedly didn't care for Halo or Geo-Force at first, and even in the end I thought Halo was more a walking plot device, but Brion pulling an Anakin Skywalker was interesting. The one I did dislike was Forager. His joke was annoying and I felt like he didn't bring much to the table. I also just didn't care for the redesigns. I like how Superboy and Nightwing do look decisively older, but Nightwing hair and face look weird, and I hate the New 52 Batman. Wonder Woman is okay, she imo looks better than the DCAMU. So far, I have enjoyed Phantoms being written as these sets of episodes, starting with Megan and Connor on Mars, Tigress and the Shadow defectors, and Zatanna & Dr. Fate fighting the Chaos, with very one-off B plots for those. Phantoms has also given us more Superman than the whole other three seasons combined at this point haha.

I'm one of the rare people who liked season two more than season one. As much as I love character focused stories I think young justice is at it's strongest when it's plot centered and what character moments we see are used to add emotional weight to themes and actions that again comes from the plot. In invasion we got a really compelling plot about the secret plans and undercover mission Nightwing and the others where doing. The drama between Connor and M'gann added a lot of depth to it and a human element to the questions the undercover plot raised. Of secret keeping and manipulation from people you care about. But we keep seeing these themes and problems come up again without the subtly. Also the amount of characters isn't the problem. It's the focus placed on them. Outsiders asks the audience to shift focus really fast and to invest a lot in characters they just met, and to keep up with whatever is going on with the main cast as well. Ultimately outsiders and now phantoms is trying to have both heavy character focus and a complicated plot and it shows, because both sides come up short. Honestly I think a lot of the issues could be fixed if the writers picked a direction and let the original cast fall out of focus for a bit. Like Rocket/Zatanna in season 2. Let the new kids have bigger roles, it's called Young Justice after all.

@@PillarofGarbage I can definitely see how someone else could feel that way. But honestly? No. I didn't feel this way. I think it comes down to showing you the drama vs asking you to come along and experience it with the characters. Take Beastboy's depression for example we see a lot of the ugly sides to his depression. The numbness and the sadness of his emotional state. We can switch from him right over to M'gann and her rage at Connor's death. Really heavy subject and emotions back to back without tying them together beyond Connor's death. It felt like emotional whiplash and ironically made it harder to get invested with either character. At least to me. In season two big events like the fallout of Artemis's death was shown sparsely but it was more about seeing how the character's reacted than going through those emotions with them. It made the switches easier to follow and the character's emotions would always tie back to the plot or how they would effect the plot going forward. It's a more impersonal way to tell a story but in a world as big as the one in young justice it worked to it's advantage.

Someone i feel is very underrated and under appraciated is young Justice's Terra. She's easily the best Animated Portayal of her we have ever gotten. Unlike the confusing and contradictory judas contract movie one, where she randomly jumps between being an irredemable monster and a lost, confused and angry girl. Or the 2003's at times over dramatic and a bit rushed as she doesn't have enouph time with the team or us, to truly make us bond with her or the like. Young justice's take on her mixes the best of both Terra's. She's angry and confused. But also a good person at heart struggling with the stolkhome sydnrome she's been given and her trauma's, wanting to be a hero and seeing that there is a better way. But faltering and slipping due to the heroes flaws and her trust being broken. She's very compelling to watch as her ups and downs feel very real as well as her struggles. And it fixes a big problem all Portyal's of her have had before Young justice. Terra was never allowed to make a CHOICE, fully on her own and given trust by others. Which made it meaningful as nobody told her she was good or bad. She was allowed to decide taht for herself.

But overall, it was great fun. It’s far from perfect but it was a good show!

I mostly enjoyed Outsiders, and I've agreed with everything you've said here. However, I do feel like certain parts were kind of a rehash of the themes of Invasion - specifically, I'm getting kind of tired of the theme that keeping secrets from people you trust is ultimately harmful. Nightwing's plot involving him controlling the flow of information as a member of Batman Inc. feels *wrong* to me, after the way that keeping secrets in Invasion led to M'gann almost killing Kaldur. It feels a walkback of the character arc he already went through. Character regression isn't inherently a bad thing - people do backslide in real life - but I can't remember any reason being given for that in the show, it's just the position Dick is in now. One of Invasion's strengths was showing how much things had changed over the course of five years, then gradually revealing how things had ended up that way. Outsiders doesn't seem to really be interested in engaging with its time skip at all - is there any reason it can't take place immediately after Invasion? Admittedly, I've only watched Outsiders once, so it's possible I missed something. (Also maybe I'm upset I didn't get to see Black Canary lead the Justice League).

(heads up, about to talk about Halo and will be using “she/her, and they/their/they’re interchangeably while in reference) When it comes to young Justice becoming too “woke” I hate to admit it but I agree with the sentiment. Let me start by explaining that when I say or hear the word “woke” I think of something that tries too hard to feel socially/morally/ and-or culturally relevant. There’s nothing wrong with injecting a bit of real world into our fiction, the problem is when it feels forced. Your use of Halo is actually ironic because the way they use the character is one of my biggest problems so far. The character herself isn’t a problem, I actually adore Halo, but the fact that the writers use them to explore almost every topic they couldn’t before makes them feel more like a soapbox and less of a character. Her struggles with her identity was a great way to explore their orientation and furthermore, sexuality. Those stories work because they both fit in with the natural progression of the character and the overall narrative the story’s trying to tell. It then becomes a problem when they try and fill the show with scenes of a similar nature without them actually having any importance to the plot, like Halo’s exploration of her faith. There’s nothing wrong with addressing a subject within context, but when it’s almost unwarranted, those scenes tend to have the feeling of being thrown in solely for the sake of inclusivity and proceeds to take away from whatever moment they were trying to create. The problem comes when being inclusive becomes more important than the scene itself. For example(this one’s a bit petty but nonetheless) there’s a moment with La’Gaan in season 4, when his family is attaked and Rodunn is injured, he bursts into the scene exclaiming; “Move! My wife and Husband are there!” But why is this the line? Like who actually talks like this? Even Aquaman, the King of Atlantis, is shown to speak with less formality unless it’s towards his brother. And if it were for the sake of establishing the relationship to the viewer, then correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure they had already established the relationship by that point so why remind us what it is again, right now of all times? And even if we hadn’t realized what their dynamic was yet, doing so in the middle of the battle just takes ruins the pacing for me. These moments don’t begin or start with lgbt representation, these are just the first couple of examples that came to mind, but it’s a collection of those out of place lines, or scenes disengaged from the overall plot that makes the show feel a little too “woke” now, but I also feel like it could be contributed to a noticeable degradation in the quality of writing and overall pacing of the series as of late. I’m just hoping they can find a balance between inclusivity and plot.

He was trying to be better but all he needed was a push to give in to that part of his mind that wanted to do it that thought his uncle deserved it. @connor so immediately after I explained in detail why it's gaslighting to tell me I have a problem when my points already been proven by industry ppl making the the same type of content u do it again? Brilliant. 10 years of abject financial failure and massive fan backlash and abandonment of this kind of programming isn't a culture shock it's total rejection that take is pure denial because even the demographics it's meant to reach don't want it. The movies flop the shows and comics get canceled constantly and the failure isn't even slowing down it's accelerating. The executives job is to approve content that the general audience wants to see that will make the most profit for the company not to fulfill the creators wants or fantasies through the content at their detriment cuz that's how u end up with garbage like phantoms. Seasons 1-2 were great they were focused on story and character development outsiders started deviating to certain themes and season 4 went deep sea diving int the bs. There might be a niche market for it but u can't force everyone to like something or assume u just need to keep beating them over the head with it for them to accept it. Ppl need to stop acting like these current hacks and weirdos were the ones who started diversity and inclusion in media in 2015 when they're actually terrible at it. I remember in the 90's xena warrior princess was 1 of my favorite shows and the main character was clearly bisexual and nobody had an issue but let these fools tell it it's only daring and brave in 2022. As someone who watched the original series when it first aired, I do agree that there is a dip in quality. However, this is a result of there being so many intersecting plot lines that I believe are poorly resolved. Principle among them is the Batman Inc storyline. I do not believe they answered the moral position posed by Batman Inc satisfactorily. Batman and Co. were able to successfully weaken metahuman trafficking for several months through their master stratagem and they only shut down because they got caught, not because there were any actual negative consequences. You can even make the argument that they did not go too far as they never killed or tortured anyone. In any case, this is just one example of an underdeveloped plotline, another is the formation of the outsiders as a whole, which when it all came together felt somewhat cringy. That is just my take.
@Jjop017
@Jjop017 2 жыл бұрын
One of my biggest gripes was how Batman’s manipulations never had consequences. The whole season kept building up to Batman’s group kept doing more morally questionable things that when exposed could hurt the heroes in general. I expected the Light would reveal Batman did a false flag operation for giving the Outsiders good publicity. That alone could have made a lot of people doubt if heroes in general were actually saving them or making problems to make themselves look good. At the end of the day nothing happened and Batman’s actions never have any consequences. He just stops because the plot says so. It is kind of weak when we had similar plot lines blow up in Batman’s face. It inadvertently feeds into Batman is always right mindset fans and even writers have taken with the character in recent years. As much as I love Batman he does go too far sometimes and his paranoia can hurt his family, friends, and allies alike.

I don't have an issue with most of Young justice outsiders decisions my problem is that we didn't get to see it.... We don't get to see how aqualad became aquaman or his becoming gay... That would've been interesting plotlines to explore... Instead they're just dropped on us which makes it hard to care about these characters and they're struggles and that's not the only issue Beast boy, halo, Geo force, Batman, wonder woman, Barbara Gordon, black lightning and forager are just suddenly made main characters out of nowhere.. We wanted to see the old team of young justice those were the characters we were invested in instead they're sidelined for these new ones Not to mention that the narrative is all over the place Like I don't have a problem with them taking less known dc stories amd incorporating them into they're show but I would've appreciated it if they atleast incorporated those ideas in without neglecting previous canon from they're own show For an example why couldn't aqualad be in the role of black lightning they're basically the same character down to the voice and seeing Kaldur go from feeling guilty for killing a child and previous seasons guilt for imprisoning his father to becoming leader of the justice league and taking on the mantel of aquaman while also discovering his sexuality would've been really cool to see... Another idea would be Nightwing in the role of Batman while Bruce Wayne is in space have Dick be the earth batman and express his disappointment in the lack of progress the league is making due to Lex Luthor like imagine if Dick was the one to say that line about "the only thing that matters was the mission" that would've been really chilling to see how far he's fallen since season 1 he didn't want to put the mission ahead of his friends lives that is not the type of leader he wanted to be, that type of leader like batman,but now he's literally that leader and it's literally easy to see how he got to that point after the death of his best friend.. And I guess that this is all hindsight but the fact that these new ideas being incorporated with old ones wasn't even considered is really telling

Solid video. I disagree on some points. The main one being the complaint of the lack of focus on the s1 characters being wrong. I've rewatched s1 and 2 multiple times before s3. The major difference imo btwn 2 and 3 was that while in 2 a lot of new characters were introduced the main 6 from s1 were still basically the focus. You could say at best that Wally and Artemis took a back seat to blue beetle and impulse. On the other hand s3 has nightwing, sb and Artemis as mentors but in actuality they take too big a back seat to halo, brion and forager. Additionally like halfway thru the season we switch focus to the outsiders and none of our main 6 are relevant in that arc. The second point tees up the first, this being the new characters. I wouldn't dislike the shelving of the old characters as much of the new ones were better written or at least given more time to develop. I largely share the same opinion with u about brion. Halo is quite annoying. After the first 2 times they died it became very annoying to see them keep getting killed. It reminded me of the justice league comics and movies where cyborg always loses and arm or a leg cuz he can afford to lose one to show that the villain means business. Beast boy and the outsiders felt like a spin off occurring within the show and it should have been a spin off because it was largely uneeded. Cyborg is ok I don't have strong feelings one way or the other. And finally forager should not exist. After watching s4 I'm still under the opinion that he could have been written out and nothing would have changed. My final point is the woke criticisms. Look obviously there are people who dislike the show because it has minorities or it addresses some political topics they don't like due to their political lean. My problem is specifically s3 and how heavy handed they were especially during the outsiders segment. I largely agree with their stances but how they bring up and address some of those topics were just so exasperating. The use of social media with the outsiders felt so played out when it was airing. All in all I didn't particularly like s3. S4 was notably better imo but in general I don't think both seasons were as good as the first two. But as you said I wouldn't use this as an example of a revival butchering the original show. I still hope we can get a s5.

The weird thing is, I feel like the first season of Young Justice became more highly rated in retrospect than it was when it was airing. When that season was ongoing, it was pretty heavily criticized for various things like the protagonists being jerks and/or bland, the overuse of the "Hello, Meghan!" catch phrase, the sluggish pace of the overall story and the repeated cliché of the Light always achieving their goals despite the heroes' efforts. I feel like it's only after "Invasion" retooled the show that people started treating the first season as a gold standard for superhero animated series. I actuly HATED how the wrapped up Artemis, even more so now sense Wally is likely to return in season 5 as sanctuary is coming in that season, them tricking her is just.... so messed up, and I thought with the character progress, Megan of all people would be against this after what went down between her and superboy over her altering of his memories, and in addtion yhe season seems to be very much about the darkness of lies and manipulation. Its just.... so jarring. overall great video though, and to give context, sanctuary in the comics is centeral to the return of wally west.

I don’t think we should base our feelings on the wrap-up around how they’d play with a hypothetical Wally return. I’m aware that this is linked to Sanctuary in the comics, but from what Greg’s said over the years I’m not at all convinced that’s an aspect they’ll adapt. And people have been adamant that Wally was about to return for the past two seasons now - so I’ll believe it when I see it!

In regards to the 'Forced Diversity' thing, I used to believe that but upon rewatching the season, I just noticed that Gabriel being a Muslim woman had almost no effect on Halo. Hell it has more of an affect on her in Phantoms which made sense because she is an anomaly who by all means, shouldn't exist. It makes sense she would try to understand Gabriel's life if only for some sense of belonging. Would I rather they brought in the comic Halo, yes. But I can't say I'm disappointed with the one we got. I did dislike that they made Kaldur bi but at the same time it was pretty much their only option since in the comics, Kaldur is gay but he made his feelings for Tula clear in Invasion
@rubyr8922

I actually think what they did for Kaldur as far as representation goes is interesting, outside the show itself when people asked the creators what he identifies as they said " he doesn't have a label for himself yet he knows that he was in love with Tula and he's in love with Wyynde" with online fandom culture these days where every character needs a label to be put in a box by the fandom, I thought that was a refreshing statement, because there are people who are still figuring things out about themselves and its rarely stated as anything but gay, straight or bi

I disagree regarding the validity of the “forced diversity” argument. Although I would agree that it doesn’t apply to this show, it definitely applies to others. I can’t list the names of characters that were clearly written to check a box for diversity; characters that were written with their minority status being the largest trait they possess. Often these characters act as stereotypes of their community and only address any problems they face as a minority to receive praise for representation. They lack nuance that the non-minority characters have because they were only meant to fill one box of “diversity”. It’s not characters being diverse that people (besides racists) complain about; it’s how these characters had no care put into their story and get reduced to their identity- which they act as a stereotype of. An article on NorseStar called “Forced Diversity in TV Shows, Films Perpetuates Stereotypes, Micro-aggressions of Minorities” goes into depth on the valid aspect of the “forced diversity” argument. Good representation can be seen in shows like Arcane, Haunting of Bly Manor, Avatar the Last Airbender/Korra, and JoJo Rabbit. All shows that are filled with diverse characters that are actual characters first and foremost. Compare those shows with any show where the only “diverse” characters are relegated to supporting/background roles.

Too many new characters to get invested in. Weaker arcs ect

Definitely, as long as you're comfortable with a show whose identity is never fully settled. It can be tough to get used to the way the cast and the focus shift from season to season, but the rewards are worth the attention you have to pay. There's some really great emotional payoff in the newer seasons.

I really liked this season. I understand the reasons why but it was way darker and more mature than the first 2 seasons I thought. They weren’t afraid to kill off characters for one, lots of romance and intimacy, some legit blood and gore (cyborg origin scene or halos battles), and in the case of someone like Brion they weren’t afraid to bring a hero back to a dark place. 😊

Season 3 is amazing. The first half has as strong character focus as season 1 had. Im one of the few people who really CAN'T stand season 2. The timeskip was so jarring and if you didnt like impulse or Blue Beetle then Im sorry, because no one else matters. Wally is my favorite character in the show and I dont mind him being dead, but it didnt hit me at all since Wally was so rarely seen. Season 3 used a lot time on Artemis and her getting over his death and even though I find it a little "eh" what Megan when she conjoured the space of Artemis to see Wally it clearly helped her. But all I as for in a potential season 5 is to either bring Wally back or just let him stay dead, all the teasing is annoying and just makes his death lesser impactfull

Wish I could agree with you. While I was (and am) ecstatic to be getting more Young Justice, the undisputed best DC animated property since the fabled DCAU, Outsiders confirmed fears hinted toward in the far superior (IMO) Season 1 to 2 transition: The show isn't afraid to dust threads you've been following to simply avert your attention elsewhere. They accomplish this with time jumps, flashbacks and a whole bunch of clever narrative hacks but the bottom line is the sheer amount of inconsistency makes it nearly impossible to let go and become lost within any singular arc, character or even entire team. Yes there are some excellent plots along the way, as you point out, yes there are some great moments of character growth and even more emotion than an animated superhero show has any right attempting BUT the bigger issue at hand here is that by the time season 3 concluded, we essentially had three different shows that happened to share a name. I hope that team you followed in Season 1 of sidekicks who forged a "Justice League" of their own isn't on your agenda if you continue on with the franchise - they're all but a distant memory with each subsequent season.

Season 3 was odd to get back to because I had enjoyed the show a lot earlier. I didn’t watch it when it aired and I was an adult when I did, but there was still a5 year gap for me. But season 3 made me realize the show always has a few points of tension in it. How much is this the story of the original 6 heroes and how much is it the story of teenage heroes in the DC universe? When season 3 introduced a new batch of young heroes, I realized that the show was following season 2’s precedent. That is just a part of the show, and I wish they didn’t go that route, but I don’t blame Outsiders for it. But when Nightwing hallucinates about the original team again, I couldn’t help but feel that the show writers realized that they moved on too quickly. Like that they were also lamenting the early choice to do time skips between each season and to age our cast to adults right away. That’s probably projection on my part though. It probably was meant to be a nostalgia-filled scene for long-time fans. I also didn’t realize how much this show is a spy show. It’s about super heroes, sure. But it is a spy show and wants to tell overlapping plots of intrigue with all these moving parts. I loved the balance between the super hero show and spy show in season 1. In Outsiders, I don’t know. Maybe it was the team manipulating the Outsiders that felt wrong, although I understand how that is a good spy-story plot beat. I guess even though they always were doing espionage, that didn’t really hit me until Black Manta casually said “the team is the Justice League’s teenage covert ops team” which just made the premise stick out to me. It also suddenly felt more morally gray than it did in season 1, and I’m sure that’s the point. The League questions it’s morals this season, but season 1 we were just happy the side kicks got to do something more. Now, it’s been a while since I saw the season, but a few things stood out to me. First, this season was bloody. Almost needlessly so. That’s probably why Halo’s many deaths stick out. It felt like they really wanted to take advantage of being on a streaming platform and with a potentially older audience, but that’s it. I also remember a lot of stills used to save on actual animation. I don’t know budgets, but it just seemed weird that the move to a streaming service didn’t mean a bigger budget. Lastly, I was bothered by Lex parroting Trump. I’m not necessarily against political references being so on the nose, but I don’t like how they make Lex seem… dumb. Like, Lex is smarter than Trump. Don’t lower Lex to Trump’s standards. Idk. I guess I didn’t like being reminded of Trump either. TLDR: I agree that this season doesn’t stray far from Invasion, but I think there are some criticisms, and it’s interesting to see how it shifted into streaming.

I love Young Justice a lot even the new seasons but I hate the character annihilation of Tim Drake(he gets no screentime or personality) and how the show has basically ignored the Jason plot line they set up. Moreover, Jason's character is completely off screen for his entire membership and death on the team. Sure, occasionally we get character insight on Jason from the others, like Kaldur in the watchtower reminiscing his losses, but for such an interesting character that can add to some future plotlines should the show get renewed, only fans that have previous knowledge and enjoyment of his character gain anything from his addition to the show. To which I find very lame.

The reason it’s woke is not cause of the race stuff. It’s because of the couple of pronoun/ gender identity scenes that the sprinkled in. They made AquaLad homosexual as well which seemed force but I did appreciate the “sucking and blowing” joke they threw in there. I don’t think the show is woke but the scene where Halo talks about how she is gender neutral seemed so out of place and unnecessary.. and then she calls herself a GIRLfriend which means she does have a gender.. I just don’t see why this confusing gender stuff that doesn’t make sense is being pushed so hard that’s all.
