@@GeneralGrievous-1138 To be honest, it seemed to me like the only time Mon Calamari cruisers got blown up was when the 2nd Death Star fired on them or they got overwhelmed by sheer numbers. I can see why the Rebels and later, the New Republic in both timelines made extensive use of them, they're great durable ships that can go toe to toe with a Imperial Class Star Destroyer and stand a good chance of winning.

Assuming a *competent GAR,* Kualt could make different versions based on the same basic design. A nasty variation of the Venator is as a *pure battleship.* Drop the carrier capacity and use the hanger space to store lots and lots _(and lots)_ of heavy missiles. Add extra launchers at the front (and maybe covering other arcs) so it can fire massive salvos and it could just rain continuous death upon enemy ships that could overwhelm enemy defenses at the start of the engagement, before they can wear down with turbolaser fire. The extra missiles wouldn't require extra reactor power like extra guns would, just feeding mechanisms to load missiles into tubes from magazines. Thus the complicated redesign and fitting of a larger reactor and the extensive rewiring is unnecessary, it's a quick, simple solution for a war of attrition. The hanger doors could either be removed, or left there to confuse the enemy as to which version the ship was until it fired, especially if it was a simple modification (retrofit) of an existing Venator carrier and not a new purpose built frame from the ground up (or to speed construction by using the same exact frame for both, without modifications till it came to fitting out). And the hangar doors could be for quick resupply of missile ordinance back at base or supply ships. Also using the Venator frame aids *logistics* and speeds development in wartime. And if it is purpose built, _fake doors_ could be fitted over heavy armour to confuse the enemy…who am I kidding? The Republic would give it a unique paint job. Ther only issue is how expensive and difficult is it to make proton missiles? While now useless as a carrier, in a battlegroup it is a lethal *capital ship killer,* and with different missiles or torpedoes fitted in the launchers, a good fighter killer as well (like a Homeworld Missile Destroyer). Mix it in with a few standard Venators and watch the kill counters go up, as it solves a tactical weakness of Republic fleets, that is the heavy slugfest, without the hassle and _time_ of developing a whole new ship line, and the advantage that enemy forces can't accurately estimate the firepower of your fleet until they engage. And while they quickly plug the gap, turbolaser specialist heavy variants can be designed and built on the same general frame, with better layout. The same concept could be used for the Acclamator, a missile heavy variant that can be mixed in with the fleet and use the same faculties ect. Although it could also use its fast hyperdrive to be a raider and fast response vessel, to deal with (or initiate) surprise attacks in other systems. Also as a ground attack destroyer and really, really heavy bomber - imagine a Acclamator loaded with Proton bombs doing a strategic high altitude run on the massed CIS forces before the first battle of Geonosis. It could soften up and maybe obliterate enemy ground forces before standard Acclamators land troops. And turbolaser variants could do precision fire support in battle. The other advantage here is you don't know if it's a standard Acclamator full of thousands of juicy troops to kill before they can deploy or a pocket battleship that could blast your hull clear through to the other side with a missile barrage, until you engage … *_Do you feel lucky bot?_*

I'm pretty sure the Victory class was literally just this design philosophy, considering Victory Is had MASSIVE missile bays located in the same relative location as the Venator's side hangar entrances. Of course missiles then gave way to massive turbolaser batteries, which is what the Imperial class got.

@@grievouslytired7886 I once had a auto resolve batte where I put Vader in his Executer Super Star Destroyer against a Level 1 (!) Space Station. Vader died. I then took a look into the game code, and found out that when you hit auto resolve, the game uses a different health number for your ships, wich is like 1/2 or 1/4 of the normal health. Shields not included. In that code the Executor had like 1000hp in auto resolve compared to 10.000 (I think) in normal battle

Honestly I think the ship was designed before they thought the series was going to be such a huge success, and the backstory and details were added later. But besides that, It looks a lot like the concept of the Sherman tank. They had horrible armor and armament, but they could turn them out faster, fit more on a ship, train drivers faster because they drove like a car, and they worked best in numbers with a wide variety of support. Plus they could fulfill a wide variety of rolls because they were so available compared to other tanks.

Well, considering what we saw on the Clone Wars TV show, we could say than the Venator also had some unknow number of tirbolaser batteries, as we can see very often that the Venators fire what looks to be turbolaser shots from where its suppose to be only point-defense weapons, as well as some other turrets, also I imagine than it's flag cannons must have being able to attack for long distances, rather than just from shotrt range

The sloped base of the two bridge towers would be a perfect place to put an SPHA. I'd scrap the heavy turbos and replace them with SPHAs, one where I previously mentions, one on a domed turret in front of the ventral hangar, one on either side of the bridge towers, and one directly underneath both of those for a total of six.

Well... number 1 reason I'd imagine. You'd NOT want to be a Republic Clone is mostly that like you said Geetsly the Navy was horribly usually outgunned or youd wind up quite possibly a Ground Clone soldier of any kind thatd get stuck sitting there playing with your blaster and hoping for the best.. or at least the ship your on not getting blown up. I think adding some heavy and medium turbolaser on the top and bottom with added armor and power generator's to increase shielding and hull strength and make the hanger's like the Quasar's and you can carry double the carrying capacity I like the Venator, but I could name some modification's I would modify to the Venator to make it better

When fighting battleships with battleship one should always try to cross the T, which means you try to bring as many of your cannons to bear on the enemy while only allowing the enemy to use the minimal amount of weapons on you. And in space you can do that in 3D. So in case you are dealing with star destroyers you might want to come up from below, from their south angle, aiming at the engines and any open hangar bay you might find.

That's why, as I've said before and will say again, the Republic misused Venators greatly, and the Empire were idiotic to dispose of them. The Venator is not meant to be a frontline battleship (though, in a pinch, it can hold its own against certain targets), but rather a large fleet carrier. Cannot and should never go anywhere on its own, they should be loaded to the brim with starfighters and star bombers to be sicced on whoever decides to battle them. However, the best use of them would be holding back from the front line of the battle while more dedicated battleships (Victory-class destroyers, or even the rare Imperator-class or Tector-class near the end of the war if you could get one or two of them assigned to your fleet) go to the front and slug it out. However, while it's staying back, it needs a few picket ships to screen against hostile snubfighters and maybe the errant frigate that slipped through the main battle (Carrack-class, Dreadnought-class, Artiquens-class...). Ultimately, take a page from the days of WW2, as so much of Star Wars' space battles do - the Venator is the fleet carrier, the lifeblood of the air (space) battle capable of bringing relentlessly large numbers of aircraft (starfighters) against you, but is quite vulnerable on its own. Hence, each fleet carrier (be it Essex-class or Venator-class) needs to be protected by its own battle group of smaller ships to act as picketts and fighter screens (your little frigates, escorts, and the like), and a battleship or two (be they Victory-class or South Dakota-class) to be the main line-of-sight offensive firepower lynchpin to help protect the rest of the comparatively fragile fleet. Tbh, my ideal fleet that could theoretically be assembled in the Clone Wars would be one or two Venators loaded with a mix of V-wing Interceptors (for self-defense of their carriers, providing a defensive Combat Air Patrol during battle to act as additional anti-fighter and anti-bomber forces), ARC-170s (bring the hurt to a multitude of enemy vessel types, and have more flexibility than V-wings do), and Y-wings (because tactical strike bombers have their uses, mainly critical subsystems of larger vessels); 2 Destroyers for each Venator (be they Victory, Imperator, or Tector depends on which part of the galaxy and how hostile an area it is), a couple Acclamator II-class cruisers for protection of the Carriers, as well as either some Carracks, Artiquens, and/or some Consular-class Charger c70 refits for anti-snubfighter screening (again dependant on expected hostilea and/or region of the galaxy the battlegroup is going to). Need to be well-rounded, and able to account for any and all situations that may arise.

While it would have been really useful to have a medium sized ship to ship combatant like the Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser, but as soon as they could start producing high volumes the Victory Star Destroyers then those weren't necessary, and if they'd paired them up into standardised formations with Venators. Starting out with having battle groups of 2 Venators and 1 Victory with a few escorting Arquitens and giving them equal numbers of Venators and Victorys would have given them a flexible and capable navy. The sheer fact the Republic could manage to build a nearly all big ship navy that could hold off the CIS with almost no lead time says all that needs to be said aboout the CIS's chances in a prolonged conflict once the Republic could achieve a balanced fleet composition.

The Venator is a mediocre ship of the line, but a pretty good assault carrier. If it was paired with something more dedicated to firepower, maybe even using the exact same frame, it would have been the best frontline carrier of the war, letting its starfighters, and main battery shine, while the better armored and armed cousin soaks up damage and deals out broadsides to Munificents and Provindences

Well, good. I always thought the Venator was SEVERELY undergunned. The Executor just happens to be at the forefront of my little brain, and yeah - granted, it’s like 20x the size of the Venator. But the SSD has some 5 THOUSAND turbolasers compared to around 20 on the Republic star destroyer. Still don’t understand why the dorsal armaments on any star destroyer aren’t mirrored to the ventral side. Not to mention aft-facing turrets above and below the engine bells.

I could be wrong but wasn't the Preator created before the clone wars but due to Rusan reformation it couldn't be equipped with a hyperdrive so they could only stay in one system. The only worlds that had them were wealthy ship building worlds who just used them for show. Once the clone wars was started they equipped them with hyper drives. Ik this probably doesn't matter cause this was months ago and I'm certainly not an expert. Sorry I probably didn't spell Preator or Rusan correctly.

In the Clone Wars Season 1 Episode 6, you can see the turbolaser turrets on the bottom of the Venator

I'm confused by the Venator's turrets. In the cutaway book, it shows the turrets being large enough for a crew to be inside. But then in the Clone Wars we see that the turrets are being remotely controlled from the bridge and move much faster
