Thanks for the video Hero and I do remember your 600 one. As an ex Australian Superbike racer (who spent time racing in the Supersports category- 600 cc) and then stepping up a category I need to say that only 0.0000001% of all motorbike license holders around the world could only possibly get the most out of a 1000 cc bike on the track let alone on the streets. They have gone well above what any mortal could ride to the limits on, keep their license and more importantly life. Their is a reason why they don’t sell well anymore as most people are going for a more useable package.

The thing is , 99% of people won't even touch the limit of a 300-500cc bike on a track. People that "outgrow" bikes, just want more power readily available or more power in the straights, where 95% of riding actually takes place..

@@manbiteslife3110 A racetrack is a circuit with numerous corners. Where on god’s Earth did you get the number of 95% is straights??? To put this into perspective, a racetrack I know very well as it was my hone track and arguably the best on tour being Phillip Island. It’s total distance from memory is 4.71 kilometres per lap. It has one of the fastest straights where MotiGP and WSB bikes peak at 320+ kph on Gardner straight, which is comparatively long only measures 800 metres in length. You will also find the very experienced riders loving the opportunity to ride smaller displacement bikes on track. As it’s your entrance, corner and exit speeds that make the most difference. Anyone can go quickly in a straight line.

No, not next level anything, in fact its backwards mentality. Sure if your happy with your small bore on the street fine. But riding big city, multi lane, heavy traffic with average car speeds at 70 or better? The big bores decimate the small bores, just on the safety and riding longevity issues alone. In these conditions, more torque and power is never to much. The ability to get up and walk away from sketchy situations just before they happen by just whacking the throttle has saved my ass so many times. I rolled the small bore before the big bores on the street, and it was a track modded R6 for Road Atlanta to boot, once I test rode the Suzuki K5, in 05 it was just flat out over for any 600 on the street. I knew what it was bringing to the table for safety over that R6. Especially knowing what modding that K5 would add. Track bike? different story for small bores completely.

Funny, I’ve been riding 24 years, and I’ve owned all sorts of bikes. I’m currently on a 2018 GSX-R 1000r, and the bike before this was an RSV4. With all these bikes, I’ve come to realize that I’ll NEVER use everything these bikes have to offer. As much as I love my 1000R and the Aprilia, they’re both overkill. The most fun I’ve had was initially on my 1982 Honda CB 750, and on my ‘16 GSX-R750. I really think I’m going to move to a Tuono, or a R NineT. More fun, and way more comfortable.

Older guy here @ 53 .. I’ve have both the 600 and the 1000 for years ( and a gold wing .. ha ) .. I totally agree .. the 600 is a better dance partner .. it’s better on city / country roads - it’s better for canyon carving .. the 1000 dominates in getting to your speed quicker & that’s where it ends .. it’s all ego .. I get 186 mph on my liter and 155 mph on my 600 .. 30mph difference.. but when your hitting those top speeds .. does it even matter .. you will rarely do it anyways !! The 600 Is cheaper insurance .. 1000 has a smaller window for error . For the ego guys who say a 600 can’t keep up .. total b.s … cops usually weed those guys out pretty quick .. take my word for it and hero’s .. 600 is a better dance partner.. it’s easier to flick around , you’ll be more comfortable dropping knees & elbows .. trust me that 40 pounds makes a difference .. more so for new riders .. on a 600 you’ll feel more in control , you’ll dominate it better .. and that’s where the fun is and that’s why we ride P.s .. 600 you get to drop a gear or 2 to really grind it .. that’s the beauty of it all .. WORK IT .. dominate it .

Small tip for Ninja 400 - if you go for used, 2018-2019 models had issues with front ABS wiring. As I saw on Ninja 400 forum many were recalled to dealerships for main harness replacement, some users had luck and defect was close to connector between main harness and wire running on the fork to front ABS sensor. I had bad luck and got this issue somewhere deeper in main harness. I'm only not sure if I want to take on the replacement on my own or leave it to the dealership as warranty is over in my case. BTW, because of you I fell in love with 2006-2013 VFR800 and can't wait to see one in my garage.

I agree with you on NOT getting rid of a bike you have to acquire another one. I started riding many years ago and the last bike I owned before taking a break was an 84' Honda VF750F Interceptor. Loved it and it was the thing at the time. Fast forward to 2019...I'm getting back into riding and looking around to see if any of those old girls were still around. I found an 84 VF700F in decent condition. Identical to what I owned in the late 80's early 90's as a Marine; just in 700. I had to have it. (Wife's eyes rolling). My son and I did a lot of refurbishing to correct old wiring issues and I had the machine completely gone over and inspected. A year later I found what I really wanted. A 2013 Honda VFR1200F. I could not bring myself to sell the 84'. Too much time, money and nostalgia to let it go. The difference for me is the technology. It's like Apollo 11 compared to Space X. The tech in braking, ABS, traction control, fuel injection etc. and difference in horse power is ridiculous. The old Interceptor pushed liked 80ish horse power, the 2013- VFR 170 HP. It's madness. Do I need all that? No, but it's nice to know it's there and the torque is insane. You live once brother...enjoy your toys! Ride safe!

I think the biggest reason one should upgrade is for some of that premium feel you get from the manufacturer's "halo" bikes. Owning a liter bike is OK here in Germany because I can use the potential of the motorbike on the autobahn. Still! there is no general speed limit here (although the green sect is in full favour). I think it's pointless to own a liter bike in a country where I can't exploit the potential of the motorcycle because of a general speed limit (e.g. USA). The exception is if you regularly ride this bike on the track.

I got my first ancient sport bike after riding my 500cc, and 1100cc air cooled v-twins in standard chassis. She's portly at 550lbs with 150hp and 80ftlbs. I treat her more like a sport touring bike with lower rear sets and maybe soon higher clip ons/handlebar. I just got that bike since I like the old school dual round headlights and carb'ed i-4 sound. Way too much power for me to use all of it. Even on long sweepers I just don't like going that fast on the street. The 1100cc v-twin was maybe more fun, and that thing only had 80hp and 60ftlbs with short gears. We all want something different and learn what's good for us in each situation. Then I got a R1 but sold it quite fast because I don't like the sound of it. My only 600 is a Honda and I have to say that it is very slow compared to the 1000s. Here in germany we have the chance to drive them to their limits legaly and in that case it makes sense to get a 1000cc. Do I NEED 1000cc? Well... yes and no. My drivestyle is very aggressive and when overtaking the 1kcc gives a huge plus! If I would stick to most of the speed limits, then it would not be necessary. Hi, does that bother you to be passed on the straights? The best thing to do on track days is to find a clear spot on the track so you can ride without having to worry with track rossi's. Track Rossi's are very dangerous and do not have good common since; they will ride way over their heads and crash very expensive bikes for no good reason, and do not mind taking you out in the process. I love track days and ride the track myself but I always keep in mind that track days are for "GOOD TIMES" not lap times. Be safe out there because no one is watching you.

I realize this video is more for those who maybe can’t choose between a 600 and 1000. But lets also be honest, people keep saying we don’t need a 1000, well we don’t need a 600 either. Most of us in the US already have a car as our primary commute, so we don’t need a bike at all, it’s a luxury asset. And why do we choose a 600 over 400, because you can barely use all the power on a 600 too unless on an open hwy. We ride our ride because it’s what we like. Get what you can handle and enjoy. For liter bikes, there’s also something about having lots of power but keeping the beast tamed on the road. We don’t need sports bikes but we got them to enjoy on the road regardless of the power.

The never ending "discussion" of liter bike vs a smaller bike..... 🤔 I understand and agree with many points that you and most other riders make about why a literbike is "too much bike" to ride on the street. I smile every time I see a video come up on this subject because I own my "dream bike" which is a 2018 ZX10R(and I would without hesitation own a newer one if I could afford it). I am a working man doing my best to financially survive and I can only afford one motorcycle. I am extremely jealous of all you people that have several bikes. I have had many, many people comment saying that I should "sell the ZX10R and get a smaller bike" and I then I would be happier, able to learn more/quicker, be less expensive, etc, etc, etc..... I very calmly refer them all back to the part where I wrote "I own my dream bike". If I had a different bike I would not be happy. Is my bike comfortable??? Absolutely not, I didn't buy it for that. I ride it back and forth to work, up into the mountains, around the lakes and I smile every single time I start it up and ride out of my driveway. I have owned it for 2 years and I enjoy it more now than I did when I first bought it. I recently started going to Track Days and learning how ride it the way it was meant to be ridden and I now, even more, appreciate what an amazing motorcycle it really is. Would I have fun and enjoy riding a mid size 600cc bike, of course I would. And if I was able to afford it I would own one, but I can't and I don't. Having strong self control helps keep me "out of trouble" although I do "let it off the leash" on the rare occasion and when I do it quickly reminds me how insanely powerful it is..... and it puts a big smile on my face. 😁 It really is a "personal thing". Everyone thinks different, likes different stuff, believes different things, rides different bikes..... ride the bike that makes you happy and be happy for other riders that ride the bike that makes them happy. 😉 Thanks for another great video. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience with all these different motorcycles. Hope to see you out at New Hampshire Motor Speedway again sometime soon. I'm the "older and slow guy" on the silver ZX10R with a huge grin on my face having more fun than should be legal. Keep yourself safe! 😃👍❤🏍 Randy

To me the problem with 600cc supersports is that they have no power low whatsoever (which is what you usually need for daily riding), I much rather have a bigger engine with less top end power (somehing like a BMW F900 or Ducati Supersport), I find it more usable than a 600 which you have to really push the engine to get some power
@PewPew702
@PewPew702 Жыл бұрын
“Usually need for daily riding” Nope, a 600 supersport is beyond what needed for daily riding. A 300 is perfect or a naked bike. “Less top end power” They don’t have less top end power, in fact the power band is built the same as a 600. Most of the power comes alive in the upper RPMs. Neither engine is geared for the low end power you’re talking. They have more low end power than a 600 because it’s a bigger engine. But if it’s reasonably useful daily riding power you want to try the r7, fz07, fz09 I’m convinced you’ve ridden neither a 6 or 1k.

I don't have too much experience on bikes nor the fastest but I find having a 1000 just makes getting around so much easier with the lower end torque. Just coz you have a 1000 litre it does not mean you have to go faster when you're out, you ride to your level so whether its on a 600 or 250, you're still going to be around the same pace on a mountain range. Having the lower end of a litre bike just makes travelling easier coz when you're out riding its atleast half a day and most time you're on the highway. But in saying this best to start small first before upgrading to something bigger.

You explained that well. The HP number of the bike doesn't change how fast I ride. You also couldn't get the nice to have features(electronic suspension, brakes, traction control, IMU) without a 1000cc engine until very recently with the RS660.

It does make it easier, and is my favorite thing about the 1000. You can be lazy and have power right at the bottom... but as great of a pro that is when you're casually riding, it quickly becomes a con when you want to ride more aggressive. The power is so crazy the fun ends too quick! It's like as soon as you open the throttle within 3-5 seconds you're already going way too fast. Vs a 600 you can play with the power band and really enjoy running it through the rev range. It's personal preference really but I almost never find that my 600 is too slow for the street unless i'm trying to pace myself against liter bikes.

I'd take my s1k over it every single time because, three words, "electronic cruise control." Possibly the best thing ever fitted to a modern liter bike lol. Oh and the autoblipper for downshifts is pretty sweet too. For me, the 600 had zero balls down low. Actually, owning the 600rr, the rc51, and the s1k at the same time was what led me to get rid of the 600. It just became irrelevant. My experience was that it handled no better or worse than the s1k and if I wanted to ride an awesome analog bike then, boom, rc51, job done. I really enjoy my ninja 650 I love being able to go through all the gears downshift reving that thing out. I rev the piss out of that bike. The piss out of it If I'm only shifting one or two gears, what fun is that. What are your thoughts? Is a 750 too much for the street or would I have funner times on a 636? That's what I love about your channel. You're not just going after 1000cc bike just to say you have a liter bike but you're looking at it from a practical standpoint. I want to be able to enjoy every ounce out of that bike that I can get. Love hearing the top end screaming and then downshifting the gear to get more torque to me. That's fun! It's all about that. I guess a 1000 would punch much harder pass 70 MPH but I already get to that speed in second gear on my CB. Depending how fast you feel comfortable going on the street anything over 100 HP might be useless. I like going full throttle on my bike and I feel like I can do that quite a bit with my CB650R, I don't think I could very much on a 1000. i have a 390 as my first bike and honestly the single cylinder is torquey and great in every condition except the highway, i don't NEED more power but i really WANT more power. can't wait to get me a 790 or 701 sumo, i cant imagine ever needing more power than the 790 has.

I suspect you'll regret selling the HP4 should you do so. Maybe not in the next couple of years, but down the line. Now I have to look-up the RC51...

You should do a Tonys trackday, september Palmer is right in your backyard and it is way more laid back than penguin. Also: R7 is a killer trackbike.

@@HeroRR fantastic, very new smooth pavement, lots of elevation change and heavy camber turns that are an absolute blast to sling shot out of. Facilities arent that bad either compared to other private tracks, loudons better for facilities, but palmer beats nyst's facilities REAL nice. Garage spaces are a cheap day rental if you want, electricity is offered free, free wifi, showers and camping on site no extra cost. In the morning they have a food truck that makes killer breakfast sandwiches. Ive done about 15-20 trackdays at palmer and its still not old for me.

I like liter bikes because of a chance I might ride two up. While I like more low and mid range grunt but I don't want to sacrifice the top end. I'd keep the 600 too. I regret selling my R6 and several other collector bikes.

I rode ktm 390 adventure this weekend. Its the same engine as the rc390. I didn’t like it at all. It is completely useless under 4000rpm unless you are in first or second gear and when you are cruising around at the same speed it sounds exactly like a scooter. Also the quality felt really low. The demo bike i tested had the check engine light come on during my ride. Traction control could not be switched off in the menu. The engine made a sound like something metallic was loose and it sounded overall like there was a ping pong ball inside it. It struck me as a very budget bike. I would highly recommend you try the Honda cbr500r. It has plenty to give down low.

You technically don’t need anything… but there’s many reasons to own and enjoy a 1000cc.. i love my rrr-sp 🤙🏽😂
