In traditional archery, where there’s no sights, we call that “Instinctive Shooting”. You demonstrated it very very well!! It comes from practice, practice and practice!!

When I was a kid was a 3D local big shot. I used a compound, but found that the 6+ hours a day of shooting instinctive were better than a shaky focus on a sight pin. I mean I was shooting turkey heads off decoys at 20 yards, moving targets, all this trick shot shit, 9/10 years old. Then the opposite side of the coin, broke my arm, 6 weeks in a cast, lost it all forever lol

Finally somebody who understands. I've been telling people this for years, you will not look through that 400 dollar red dot or $130 sights on your slide when you're fighting for your life in matter of seconds. You pull out, point and shoot there's not enough time for looking through your sights and remembering everything you've been training to do in the heat of the battle.

Marine Corps infantry training regiment (It was called ITR when I went through at San Clemente on Pendleton in ‘70) had an ‘instinctive shooting’ course. They ran it with BB rifles and BB pistols. One of the exercise is to toss a quarter about 3-4’ into the air and ‘instinct shoot’ the quarter, using a BB pistol and also with a BB rifle. There was also a course with pop-up targets that we ran. . Gawd hep ya if you got caught using your sights

Your point is exactly right but there's a lot of missing context here that I think may be harmful to new shooters. When you say "you don't have time to aim" you're 100 percent correct in the aspect of acquiring perfect sight alignment like you teach a new shooter who can barely stay on paper. HOWEVER, experienced shooters who have developed the muscle memory of adequate weapon presentation don't need "perfect sight alignment" in order to stay on target. That's why as a responsible gun owner you have to put in the reps to build your skill level. Statistically most shots fired in CQSD incidents are misses. If my life is on the line (I get it) fuck a miss or two. But we still have to teach shooters that they are responsible for every round they fire. Good video tho. Love it

Good point I always say if u pull out that weapon and you shoot in self defense, u better pray u don’t t miss cause ur responsible for every round
@bigzeromike
@bigzeromike 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. You won't have time to align your sights but that doesn't mean you shouldn't LEARN to use your sights. By learning to use your sights your body learns where your weapon is pointing so the muscle memory gets you reasonably close to on target, at your typical defensive distances, without consciously aligning your sights. This is one of the reasons I hate Glocks. I've been carrying and shooting a 1911 for decades. Put a Glock in my hand and it points 15 degrees in the air. My body knows where a 1911 points so if I ever buy a plastic gun it will have to have similar grip ergonomics to the 1911.

Instinctive shooting is lost in shooters normal training range trips. This can be done without sights on the gun. It’s no different than looking at a light switch on the wall and pointing your finger at it. You don’t need sights on your finger to point at it. If your grip, trigger press, and stance is solid it can be done. If you want to up the anti you can lower your gun to belt level and try to hit you target.

You're not carrying a micro because it points good you're carrying it for concealment. What you just said makes zero sense in the aspect of carrying smaller framed pistols. You just compared carrying a g48 to a micro.....two different worlds. Two different tools for different purposes

And I'm gonna add it doesn't matter the size of the weapon at damn near point blank range... You can draw if you want but I probably won't even have to come out the hoodie pocket. @@ballsack8937 no offense taken. Hence the topic of video, Point and shoot. You don’t see him shooting a micro. @@Fight4freedom. understood. I agree to an extent but adrenaline flat out kicks our ass in the worst ways during those moments. 9 times out of 10 you're gonna be firing on a pretty fast moving target....most of the time closing in on you or strafing side to side. I think I'm just trying to translate that I like my chances equally well with a smaller and larger pistols alike in those 7-10 yard situations. I trust my g43 over say my g19 simply because it's not as heavy and bulky. I can whip it out quick or bust it thru the jacket pocket. There may not be enough draw time to effectively put rounds on vital spots....that could turn into a physical fight for the gun....so I guess in my day to day needs.....a smaller pistol excels for me

Get a micro red dot or at least try one. I realy think it helps tremendously on a pistol. Like draw, pointshoot as you bring the gun to eye level, by the 4th or 5th shot you take you should be seeing the dot, from there on you dump the rest of your 9ish rounds at the target with aimed fire while moving to some cover. I like this to practice this drill a lot, the red dot especialy helps because you dont have to lign them up, if you se the dot the bullet goes there. This way you have the best of both worlds, when you get used to it you'll feel like John wick.

There is a difference between sharp focus and flash sight picture, but both are still aimed shots. Distance to and size of the target are determining factors in which type of aim is needed. We must not forget the lessons of the old gunfighters...you cannot miss fast enough to win!

I noticed I’m a lot more accurate when I my eye is on my target and I’m using peripheral vision for my sights or to “aim” I’ll put about 14 on out of a 16 round clip and when I’m aiming with sights I usually get about 12

I’ve seen several comments on KZbin of people who claimed they were in self defense shootings that mentioned they never looked through their sights. Which makes total sense because in the heat of the moment no ones gonna be taking the time to properly line their sights up in a life or death situation. One video I can remember is from GBRS group and they mentioned using the rear plate as a reference.

Depends on the distance and location, if you gotta bunch objects to hide behind I'll look through sights if I'm out in the open 20+ yards away I'll aim through sights but I've practiced at 50-70 yards every session so 20 yards and under without looking through sights feels like slight work to me.

Try this take the striker, firing pin ect out your carry piece and put it in your carry rig now get a buddy to at some point during the day to attack without notice and draw, identify shoot. I think it will be a humbling eye opener but a great place to learn what you need to work on. Good luck and good shooting.

@2Gunz Dee Appreciate your content man. Really appreciated the video where you were pulled over while carrying. I was laughing pretty hard when you were like "make sure your trigger discipline is good when you un-holster it, I'm not trying to be shot from an ND" I have the sar9 platinum as well and honestly I like it more than most of my Glocks in a lot of ways, sucks its hard to find a store or even website that has it's mags in stock since it's not as widely popular (it's sold out almost everywhere I looked). Definitely a slept on pistol though. I was taught the same thing. Was pretty much told in a real life situation I'd most likely never acquire the sights or even try to. That's why mechanics and purchase on the frame are so crucial like you showed in the video. If your grip & presentation are correctly drilled over and over again and the muscle memory is locked in where the slide is level to the target you'll atleast have a chance in a real life, reactionary, point and shoot scenario. I'd was definitely an eye opener when one of my instructors read the statics from reports of people in shootouts (LE/Civilians/Security professionals) that said they only had time to just draw, point, and shoot. Anyway man, really appreciate your content. I wish I knew of an outdoor range like this where I'm at. Haven't found any open to the public which sucks since I want to work on live fire target transitions and be able to get my heart rate up and whatnot. Thanks for the fire content man, appreciate you.

Haven’t tried the SAR pistols but I like and own a Canik. For me, better than my Glock 19, which I bought from AAFES. Both SAR and Canik are made in Turkey. Right now, the Turkish drones are carrying the day in Ukraine. I’ve heard the trigger is better in the Canik than the SAR. SAR makes weapons for the Turkish military. I definitely like the Canik triggers to the Glocks. I expect the sale of non Glocks to continue in popularity. These are quality pistols with lower prices, and they look better than any Glock.

@@Celsor5865 Big fax man. I only have owned 1 canik, the TP9DA just because the DA/SA mechanism seemed pretty cool. I have to say, in SA, it has an amazing trigger, its insane, especially for a sub $450 pistol. Wish I had gone with a regular tp9 or tp9sf or any tp9 SA variant as I have continually had light primer strikes in DA even after replacing the firing pin, I've ran a variety of ammo brand through it so the ammo is definitely not the problem. Apparently this is a common issue with the tp9DA. But everyone with the tp9 SA variants don't have this issue since they don't have the DA mechanism. I'm just being a complainer though, I can run it in SA by just not using the de-cocker, I was just really hoping the DA/SA would work reliable because that would be lit. Regardless, it's still really fun to shoot! amazing triggers right out of the box! Those Turkish arms companies have been producing some absolute fire 🔥 blasters! Glock needs to wake up and take notes frfr.

Mr. Ron former gun shop owner, leather krafter(?),veteran and man who helped start our county gun range once told me something to the effect. Kiss.... don't need anything to slow you down. Just look at the back of the gun. Makes sense. For Myself, I see pocket carry as my best option to start with. thinking it will be more up close and a belly gun situation. I'm a big guy with big hands. Haven't really found a comfortable way to carry iwb yet. this, that ect... 3 quality holsters for a sig365 don't allow me a good grip because the belt or holster keeps those xl hands from getting a good grip. f-frame and the 365 do well in a pocket with a sticky holster.Thinking I need a larger grip for iwb. Learning adventure.

First-time viewer. Great video.... and thanks also for keeping it short. Too many people go way, way too long (all subject matter). I like how you had zero misses looking at the target and NOT aiming. This is why I'm not a fan of kitting pistols out with dot or reflex sights or other nonsense. Extra bulk and weight and no value added. Some of my rifles (ARs, AKs, SKS, M1 Garand, Mauser 8mm) all have standard iron sights. You should be able to put the front post on a target at 10 meters and get a hit - without an electronic sight or a scope. Too many people focus on nonsense rather than the basics.

I’m new to firearms just purchased my first 9mm G3C, this is why I think a laser pointer in your home is better than an expensive dot sight. The only issue with the laser is they can see you use it across a room with a door and can prepare for you to turn the corner

A zeroed RDS takes the time out of aiming. If we’re talking home defense I’d actually go for that and a high lumen flashlight. Shine one of those directly in your face and see what happens

With training and thousands of rounds shooting with a purpose of your body naturally comes with a natural point of aim where the muscle memory is used to place the gun where you would normally place it 90% of the time the sites might not be aligned but your muscle memory and natural point of aim should be the same and you are right you don’t have time to according to the way that the USA wants us to carry unholster the weapon rack the slide align the sides pull to the wall and squeeze the trigger

I do one handed at 15yds and all you do is look at target and hold gun at slight angle to aline sights but still see target. Also combat accuracy means be able to kill or sever target in a way that gets them down. Basic mastery is needed
