This will definitely be a classic and collectors car. There is something VERY special about this beautiful V10 engine. In this age of turbo this and turbo that, the M5 E60 may not have the low end grunt but once it's revving, it's something to behold when you see 200 mph in a "family" sedan. Congrats on your M5 because you truly have a master piece.

I just subscribed to your channel, I like exactly what you are saying about these cars, I have an e60 M5 and I love my car and know exactly what it takes to own one and maintain one. All these KZbinrs that talk bad about these awesome machines have no clue what they’re saying. People forget that these cars are $100k brand new, they’re not cheap, yes you can get one for $10-$15k used in the US but maintaining one is the key☝️The BMW E60 M5 is in my opinion the best M car ever built, there’s no other car like it! I’m keeping mine forever! Thank you for being honest and finally someone that agrees with me too 😁

So glad to see this video @bmwdoctor ! Have had my 2006 E60 M5 since 2011 in the US. The only issues I’ve had were erroneous codes from the battery being low. If you don’t drive regularly, these like to be on a battery tender. No problems since. Another key behavior is to throughly respect the warmup. This is an F1 derived engine with very tight tolerances, running thick Motorsport oil ... It needs to be warmed carefully at every startup to circulate and lubricate. The tach is even designed to reflect this warmup period! Mine has 80,000 miles on it and oil analysis shows no rod bearing wear whatsoever so far. Most owners in the US keep it in the default D3 mode and drive right onto the highway, from cold. IMO this is why so many people have ruined their bottom end ... Highly misunderstood car. Thanks for clarifying in this video and countering the hate thrown at this fabulous machine. Owning this car is an amazing experience. There’s literally nothing like it and there will never be again!

The main thing people forget is that apart from it being relatively expensive to maintain ( I own one so I know - every now and then it hits you for 5k) This car is an experience every time you drive it. More power than you could ever need on the road - it literally never runs out. The noise it makes is heavenly. The way it delivers the power is sublime but when you are pushing it (which it seems to encourage) it makes you feel confident - your balls will run out before the car makes you scared.

This is the 3rd video I’ve watched where a smart person talks about these cars. Literally the only time you have an issue with these cars is when you rag them out and do burn outs and redline the the car all the time. If you let the motor warm up and occasionally get on it then you’ll have less issues. Most the people who have a problem with these are tearing them up by driving it like a dumbass

Ok. Very good video I must say! I have one of the last E60 M5s to roll off the assembly line in 2010. In the last 3 years of ownership, I have replaced a lot of components, but that's what aging cars that require maintenance and upkeep takes! This car is a beast. I have driven it in the US from Florida to California - and enjoyed the hell out it. Everything related to caring for the car is expensive (especially if compared to normal daily drivers). But that comes with a F1-derived machine. This car is also complicated. As was mentioned in this video, it has many failsafes that kick-in to protect this V10 engine. I have only required towing 2 times in 3 years (dead battery and then, 5 months later, a dead alternator). If you replace things before they fail, you won't have "reliability issues." Most E60 M5s have more than 100,000 miles on the clock, and that says mountains about the build quality that went into this beast. When was the last time you saw similarly-aged Lamborghini (or any V10 for that matter) with more than 100,000 miles on it? (wait for it........ NEVER!) If you want to see a pristine Metallic Black E60 M5 example, it can be found on my insta @pure_m5 Again, this is a very truthful video. Owners who understand the uniqueness of this unicorn (and can afford it) love it!

I own a 2010 M6 SMG with 118,000 KM and I could not disagree with you more. All the cars of this era with the single clutch F1 transmissions (BMW E6x, F430 and Gallardo have actuator pump failures which cost 3X's what it costs to do the rod bearings). These are technologically complicated cars which are expensive to maintain so you either buy it new with warranty and suffer massive depreciation or buy it used and pay for repairs. BUT, they are so cheap now that you can buy a good example with a service history and pay for the rod bearings and all other issues and still have a cheap 507 HP car. Haters on the internet can't expect to buy one used for 15% of its original MSRP, redline the hell out of it at 8250 rpm and then not do the rod bearings and vanos or throttle actuators. You have to do the rod bearings before they even start to show copper or you will fill the engine with shavings and take out your vanos. And YES I would buy the car again, the sound of that V10 with a stainless steel catback exhaust can not be duplicated and worth every penny.

Hi from Western Australia, great work mate. I have had most of the M line inc e30 M5. I currently still ave an e92 M3 and a Lexus ISF as my daily. A very nice E60 M5 has come up here with full super sprint exhaust with headers, evolve CF intakes, and tune. All maintenance done except Vanos (is this an issue) has 107,000 Km in the clock. Which car do I sell to buy the E60😱 do you think the M3 will appreciate more than M5? Thx for your advice.

nice video. I like how you give reasons you SHOULD buy this e60. I just put in a bid for $15k. 2006 @ 115k miles. I currently drive f01 m package. I sold me m5 e39 5 years ago. so yea, I'm excited to own another m. great video :)

Like all marques there are good ones and bad ones, they are bought to be driven hard otherwise youd have a 520d.Maintenence is key,ive had the E60 and now own a F10 but in 535d,as much as i love the car i really loved the E60 its an iconic car in my eyes.I just might source one in the future, the shape is like marmite but it will be a future classic.

The gearbox gets a rough time on the forums, the only issue I've had are a clutch slipping and on another occasion the slave cylinder popped.... Not an smg issue, you can get these problems on all and every gearbox Gonna do my throttle actuators tomorrow... And yes driving in limp mode is total bs, you can get out and walk faster

Don’t pump me up telling me this car is reliable. I’ve always wanted one of these but settled for a F10 535 instead. But I also see this car give Nathan fits which gives me pause but I still want it

Nathan fixed his and was very honest with the cost. It is true the parts are a bit pricy but the best thing to do is invest in a proper diagnostic tool. Honestly they are aren’t difficult to work on, majority of the stuff are diy. Amazing cars and every enthusiast must have one in the stable..

Thanks for making this video, getting sick of the hate on this masterpiece, not sure why everyone on KZbin hopped on the hate train. I have a 2006 E60 M5 with about 55K(88K km) miles on it. Previous owners got all maintenance completed regularly. I personally always lets the warm up cycle finish while idle before driving and let the engine get to running temperature (about 200f or 93C) before going over 3K RPM's I plan on preventatively replacing the rod bearings when it gets to about 75K (120K km) miles. Is that safe bet for doing the replacement? Or what would you suggest? Or maybe its not even necessary. Only good part of all the hate is that it made it real cheap to buy.... with only 48.5K miles on it when I bought it was $17.5K US

If you take care of it then obviously it will take care of you in the manner you expect. I wouldn’t say it’s more reliable than some standard bmw engines. But I definitely want one tho.
