I bought a new td50k Last November, and i absolutely agree with your points! Before the td50 i bought a td15 (2012 i think) and it still Is a cool handy edrumset with many options in different directions but nothing compared to the td50 within its Features and high quality samples etc. Great Channel i really like the fact that finally there Is another great edrum related channel besides 65drums because imo there was no as great produced channel, until now. So thank you very much for your effort and please keep it up, way to go! 💯 And sorry for my english 😂

Great video and advise. I believe for a pure practice only kit, the module can be low end, but if recording or going live, you are correct, get a great module. One of the reasons I went with the TD50 was the outputs, I run FOH all through my direct outs and let sound people do what they need to with FOH, run my main outs to my monitors and then I can control my monitoring with the faders on the module and not affect the FOH in the direct outs.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, you really run into the limitations of a lower-level module in a live scenario and throwing a laptop into the mix on stage for VSTs isn't really my favourite idea. Sounds like a great setup there! I rarely gig with my eDrums at places that have sound engineers so I have to rely on getting it right myself - another area that the flagships really help your workflow and set up time.

@TheeDrumWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
@@robmiller817 They're both great in their own right. The general rule of thumb is if you want VST sounds out of the box and an acoustic kit "replication", go Mimic. If you want to heavily edit and customise your sounds and of course use the digital pads, go Roland. But ideally try to play both beforehand.

One other point. If your like me, i bought and gig with a mid-tier kit. buying a flagship module not only gives my mid-tier kit the same samples as the high end ones, but now I have a backup module to take to gigs.

I use Roland's TD-50RW kit with the SPD-SX sample pad. I like that I can send 8 direct outs to front of house and also have my own separate mix using the faders on the front of module. Also using VExpressions drum sounds helps me to achieve the sounds that I want!!!!

I am just going to throw in the middle of the road TD-27 for using as a almost flagship controller for a professional approached as MIDI controller for Abelton Studio, FL Studio and Pro Tools. With the demands of electronic mixing for sound tracks and other production work not requiring a live studio mix I believe this mid-level controller being a late to the race controller fills a lot of the needs for creativity in a DAW as a MIDI controller for the drum tracks. Traditional studio work and playing live I am sure is different. My humble point is as a MIDI tool more then an instrument the TD-27 was a great addition to my setup (running 2 controllers) running through my Aturia Keylab into my DAW. Technology has developed a lot of business models for music production in totally no traditional ways.

I have a Tourtech tt-22m, I only play at home but I would like better sounds. Would you happen to know a good module which is compatible to the Tourtech?
@mojodrum32155 жыл бұрын
I've been playing the td20 kit with the td20w expansion card since it was introduced back in the early 2000's. The build of this kit is quite good l only had to change the cones once and clean the contacts of the lcd screen. I agree the sounds are outdated so l use various vst's to compensate for that. I have now reached a point where l would like to update my module it's between the mimic and the td50. I understand what they both have to offer and l could spend a little more and get the td50 pack but still undecided. I will wait until 2020 Namm to see if any new kits come out, l think Yamaha is due for a new release.
@TheeDrumWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've been getting the best out of your module! Yeah, Roland's gear lasts! If you're already in the VST realm, going for the Mimic to get that experience in the box could be a good shout. The TD-50 definitely sounds a lot different to both the Mimic and the TD-20, but you can get some great stuff out of it with some work. And the digital pads are very good! I'm hoping Yamaha do have something new to offer, but I have a feeling they might move to focus more on the hybrid market after the EAD10. Most of their electronic kits have been re-packages of other ones for about a decade. I'd love to be proven wrong though!

@@TheeDrumWorkshop Now, if Yamaha were to team up with Toontrack.... their pads, hardware and triggering, Toontrack's awesome libraries... but that's a fantasy. Yamaha modules tend to have their acoustic drums. But even so, better sampling, with more more layers, round robins etc... The app integration on the DTX line no one else has done and I think that's step in the right direction.

@TheeDrumWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Using a flagship module becomes less important if you're using a VST, sure. You still want to ensure whatever module you do use has good triggering and trigger settings though and some flagships have better features for this kind of thing like the TD-50's digital pads, additional outputs and audio interface capabilities. Though if you don't need the outputs, the 27 supports the digital pads and has a built-in audio interface. So it comes down to which features are necessary to pull off what you want in that case!

Any thoughts or have your seen anyone using an atv module with other pads/diy pads? The xd3 module is a very good price for a vst level basic module, but am I right in saying it can't be used with other pads??
@TheeDrumWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
I used different pads with an aD5 when I owned one. I could get them going but it was harder to dial in the more "awkward" pads than it was on a Roland or the Mimic as there are fewer options. I've not checked out the xD3 module enough to know what pads it will support, unfortunately.

The strike pro is an excellent flagship for the price. What you save in money you won't lose in usefulness. Everybody uses edrums differently of course but I can't imagine to many scenarios where the strike pro wouldn't fulfill your needs.
@TheeDrumWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I find the Strike really interesting in many ways. There's a lot of great features in there for the price and the ability to import multi-layered samples is a massive bonus. Due to previous bad experience with Alesis products and all that I've read about module issues, I haven't be able to convince myself to buy one to try it out yet. Might do down the line though. Cheers for watching!

@@TheeDrumWorkshop - Yes I know alesis has their quality issues sometimes but they are what they are. The company has its place and as long as you understand what you're dealing with you'll be fine. They use cheaper components to keep the price affordable for those of us on a budget. Do the products suffer occasionally? Yes I wouldn't argue that but they do seem to listen to their customers and make improvements. I can say first hand that I haven't had any issues with it so far and for all that it offers if it disintegrated in 5yrs it would still be a great value.

I have watched so many vids and have yet to come across one that addresses the best module (for the money) for A2E conversion which is only being used with a laptop for presets. Very intrigued by the DDrum DDTI or Alesis I/O for my purpose. Any info on these?
@TheeDrumWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, thank you! Module-less setups aren't really something that I engage with much myself which is why I don't have much about the topic on my channel. However, I do have a pretty in-depth review of the Audiofront eDRUMin 10 trigger module which is the best you can get in that area, in my opinion. Here is my review video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmS2YXyDjqZkkNE The good news is that it's been improved a lot since my review and is even more versatile. The bad news is that currently both the eDRUMin 10 and 4 models are out of stock due to global parts shortages and it's going to be a while before either can be made again. I do believe there has been talk on the Audiofront forum of changing some parts and developing an 8 input model with a different processor in the meantime, but you'd have to have a look over there to see what the latest news is about that. I don't have any experience with the ddrum or Alesis trigger modules so I can't shed any light there, unfortunately. From what I hear/read, they were pretty good back in the day but they're getting on a bit now in terms of triggering and features. I'm not sure how well they'll hold up with DIY/third party triggers or what settings they have available. The most up to date Alesis module I've used is the Strike and its trigger engine isn't really great with anything other than its own pads, so that doesn't fill me with confidence there, but the Trigger I/O might have other settings that I'm not aware of. You might be well served with a cheap, reasonably modern Roland module if you can find one that matches the number of inputs you need. They tend to handle the majority of pads and trigger quirks, though it will always depend on what brands of triggers/cymbals you use or what wiring schemes you've used if you do it all yourself. Different modules are going to support different pads better than others.
