I thought about buying a completely new pc with all the new bleeding edge components but instead settled for the mobo in my server pc, the Asus p9x79 le. I'm now running 32GB octa-channel ddr3, an i7-4820k overclocked to 4.9 GHz with an NH-D15 Noctua cooler, and an MSI SEA HAWK GTX 1080. All this ran me less than 550$ including the 1080! My biggest tip is to hop onto your local used market and constantly update to get the newest components available and look for a really good "Buy out" price. Old really doesn't mean bad, I can now happily say that I can run practically any game at ultra/high settings :D

Wait a minute. Lga 2011 processors support only 4 channels. That doesn't mean you have only 4 slots for your ram. This will be more correctly if you told, that you have 32 gb of ddr3 in 8 slots

Whatever you do with these Chinese x79 boards, highly recommend: 1) the board supports FOUR channel memory 2) A C600 series chipset preferred over all other variants, if possible. 3) decent VRM power delivery specs (look at the board pics!) 4) At least SATA 3 capable 5) At least a 450 W BRONZE or better. I am using 650W Bronze and GOLD from Rosewell, Corsair. Really depends on both the GPU and CPU matched to the motherboard. 6) Last but not least, put some air flow on the VRM heatsink. Even a cheap 60mm to 90mm fan goes a long way here. This is the weakest issue on many of these value priced motherboards. Forced air cooling will greatly extend their life and mitigate said issues. IMO.
@Luke357
@Luke357 3 жыл бұрын
These are all good. I have a very cheap ASRock Z590 board and Arctic makes an AIO with a little VRM fan on the pump/block I find it to be highly effective. It should work similarly on anything else with lacking VRM cooling.

Depends on your stats. You can get software that will tell you the temp of whatever piece of hardware you're worried about and you can look online to see what the temp it is safe to run at.

Where is that vrm thing located?
@jb678901
@jb678901 Жыл бұрын
@@harounben342 If you are looking at the motherboard as it is fully mounted in an ATX case, at the top center of the motherboard, just above the the CPU mounting bracket, you will see a heatsink. This heatsink will have a horizontal line of capacitors just below it and a matching horizontal line of square box looking components (chokes and MOSFETS) under the heatsink itself. These components collectively deliver the clean power to the CPU. It is this area where I typically use a small fan to actively cool these components by removing heat at a faster rate than just the typical airflow provided by the case fans. Note that I currently have case fans in the front(3x) and rear(1x) of my case. Should you a have screen/vent and additional fans mounted at the top of the case, this may already be sufficient as this additional airflow is in proximity to the VRM heatsink. Just my 2 cents.

I agree! I am using xeon 2650 V2, just bought it 2 months ago. The reason I pick 2650v2 is it is cheap and it has better single core performance! A good single core performance is more practical in everyday use. Too much core arent ganna be useful unless you do a lot of video rendering.

You should mention that some X79 board have werd 24 pin and 8 pin location , so i whould highly advise everyone to check for those first , and second watch out for quad channel support because haveing 4 ram stick slots doesn't mean it will run in quad channel ( most of them are dual channel ) Great video ! Great video. my main system is a second hand Dell T5610 workstation machine with dual E5-2650 V2 and it came with 128GB of RAM, a 1TB HDD and a 256 GB SSD. I popped in a GTX 1070 in my workstation and called it a day. It does everything I could ask of it. So second hand workstations might look kind of boring but they can be a great way to get into the platform on a budget. I think I was $500 CDN all in including the GTX 1070.

I built a super cheap X99 system 3 years ago and it's still running perfectly today. Built it for my nephew. Using the E5-2640 V3 with an Atermiter board that came with 4x8GB of DDR4 memory and CPU as a bundle. It's a really cheap lower end Chinese board, but it still has genuine Quad Channel support, an NVMe drive slot and 6 x USB 3.0 ports with 2 x SATA III ports. Flashed it with another manufacturer's bios and injected some microcode to make it run at 3.4GHz on all 8 cores. Doing that also unlocked memory timing tuning and a bunch of other features. The standard bios was utter garbage. Amazing vfm overall! Only downside is no sleep mode (as usual). The X79 builds are even cheaper but still game okay.

I have two of the Atermiter X79 Ver 1.03 boards with E5-2697. I've been using them for about 2 years for running VMWarer PRO15 and now 16 VMs. The only problem I ever had was getting it to go into stepping and/or turbo mode. I finally got that working when I went into the BIOS and under Advanced>CPU Configuration>CPU Power Management Configuration And set Power Technology to Energy Efficient Energy Performance to Performance Not intuitive to me but I tried it and it worked. Now I can see the clocks going up and down using CPUID HWMonitor. The Intel burn test shows a dramatic difference and the performance seems to track what is supposed to happen when you change the number of CPUs being turboed. I only mentioning this because all I ever see is recommendations to hack or use a different BIOS.

Be advised, the unbranded mobos don't, won't, can't support WIn11. I tried on a 1680V2 unbranded using the trick of adding registry keys, which did work on an old I7-2600. On the unbranded mobo, it couldn't find any drivers, then on a reboot, it wouldn't. So I moved everything over to another unbranded mobo, using a new psu and different case, and everything came up fine with a different ssd and win10 install. Pretty sure Win11 killed my mobo, I had tried another psu, still no life, got a pwr supply tester coming and if that psu is good, the mobo is dead. Glad I had a back up.

Nice video. In my opinion, another benefit of many x79/C600 boards is their number of RAM slots and (often, though not always) increased number of RAM channels, allowing up to octa-channel operation. As such, slower RAM frequency of DDR3 is making less effect in operation

@@KH_1 That is indeed often the case, but not always. As the AIDA64 list indicates, some of the high memory read speeds were achieved using motherboards with octa-channel, such as the (x79) Supermicro X9DR6-F with "lame" DDR3-1333 reaching a high transfer rate of almost 77GB/s.

Pats burg X79 / C602-A is indeed quad channel but C602 uses 2 sets of quad-chan per each CPU. The benefits come from a quality board from likes of ASUS & select Xeon E5- 1600 series for RAM OC of 2400-2800-3000 entering DDR4 territory.

only thing I was gonna say is that most of those chinese boards don't even use x79 or c620 (server x79) chipsets. They use something like B85 and other low end chipsets. Theres alot of lanes on the CPU so they use those for the more lane intensive slots.

Not so for the HuananZhi X79 (Gaming or Deluxe versions). Mine uses a C600 series chipset. However, you are correct insofar as being careful with many of these boards. Often they do not guarantee the type of chipset used...it is a crap game for some of these manufacturers...B75 to Q75, C204-C206, etc. The HuananZhi X79 motherboards are about 20 to 30% more expensive than the cheaper brands (Altimeter, Machinst, etc.). That being said, our HZ X79 Deluxe has been running well for going on 3 years. Of course, I always recommend putting forced air on the VRM heatsink...been using an 80mm RGB fan mounted to the underside of the case top for this purpose. Also, I paired it with an E5-4627V2, eight cores, eight threads. This was a specialized XEON and not very popular or known at the time of purchase (I got it for $85 three years ago), but with a whopping 3.5Ghz turbo across all cores. Cores trump threads...so having 8 cores/8 threads makes for a very capable CPU with a power consumption that keeps the VRM's happy. Not to say the X79 Deluxe doesn't have decent power delivery...it does. I just wanted to be careful.

I'm done with the platform now as my main driver. Flakey, buggy, unsupported BIOS, endless problems developing from new products the BIOS doesn't get along with, mainly GFX now. This Asus board's been a pain in the long run. You'll get more luck out of the platform with the China boards (which are technically LGA 2011 but not X79 chipset, they use a server chipset to the same effect. They still brand as X79). Than the popular branded ones. From experience. Probably 1 because the BIOS is more updated & 2 they have newer technologies anyway like NVME & newer PCI Ex. & 3 a server chipset has to be stable in a business environment. Shame, because it has a lot of power to offer still for little cost. I can sell this X79 Asus board for £150, I just bought 2x modern Gigabyte gaming Ryzen boards for under that brand new (£95). Maybe, I'll also get another China board for the CPU & Ram & buy myself a takeaway with the rest. 😂

Depends on the mobo in question. Also don't pair a chinese x79 or x99 with a chinese branded sata ssd or nvme ssd. It won't work. Go known brand for the ssd to go with a chinese x79/x99 mobo

I need a X79 board that supports 32GB ECC Reg DIMMS, I have 4 of them and a E5-2680 v2 but cannot find a board that will definitely work with Quad rank 32Gb DIMMS, anyone know? ( I Know Supermicro boards work of course but I cant get one)

can you use a RTX graphic cards on x79 mobo?
@manistechshack
@manistechshack 2 жыл бұрын
You can, but it doesn't mean you should. Depending on the card, the most powerful RTX card i would use with an x79 CPU would be the RTX 2070, anything above that would likely be completely bottlenecked by the CPU and ram.

x79 doesn't make any sense in 2021, cause you can buy x99 for the same price

X79 is for those who have spare parts laying around. esp. ddr3 memory. Switching a platform requires huge budget. And usually more expensive than the X79.

the mobos I've seen on aliexpress support quad channel, not all mind you. Just make sure the CPU being used also supports quad channel.

Just ask the seller. Most support Quad Channel DDR3 and only a few have Dual Channel. Also, there are X79 boards that support USB 3.0 and have more than one SATA III port. Ditto for NVMe and full-length PCIe slots. Some have 2 of each. Just do your homework and if in doubt, ask the seller.

@@DJ_Dopamine Kinda irking that some of the mobo makers have put only 2 RAM slots on some of the x79/x99 mobos. Hard to operate quad channel with only 2 slots. Also, be wary, don't use Chinese branded nvme ssd on Chinese branded mobo high chance of the nvme ssd not being recognized. For me if I'm planning another x79/x99 Xeon build gonna make sure I have 4 ram slots for quad channel operation.

Thank you. But cpu is not a bottleneck for graphic card. Had a 1660 switched to a 2060 and gained a fair amount of fps on this cpu dépend of games
