I can't thank you enough man, im not the most experienced person in these kinds of stuff and so im always a little bit insecure about messing up all these voltage shit and potentially breaking my pc. I wen't from hitting about 81/82Cº in cinebench with a H150i cappelix at probs 70%-80% fan speed to a mere 67-69Cº with 35-40% fan speed just by following what you did. Not a single reviewer has given an easy to follow solution for the unexperienced for this problem like you have, again, thank you!

Continuous slow creep to 90c in about 5 minutes while gaming, thermal throttling, games stuttering, cpu temp warning alert, the works. Using a Cooler Master MasterAir MA410M and 6 case fans. Was about to sell this thing cuz I tried so much stuff. Used your exact settings and temps down by about 15 to 20c depending on the game, idling at 45c, no more stuttering in games even when it hits the max 85c limit, and for the first time my chip broke clean through the 5Ghz barrier. Did I get an amd blessed 5800x or something? only found this video as I was curious why I saw so many heat comments. I genuinely thought maybe something wasn't right on this build initially it was running that cool idle and games vs what I had seen online. I have done a ton of benchmarks and tests so it isn't just a particular game and even benchmarks that are extremely unrealistic scenarios I think 72 was the highest I ever saw it top out? I believe I had the heater cranking then lol... Games at 1440p and 4k generally about 52 to 59 it will peak at and usually sit in between those numbers. I have had the occasional game or scene in game with low 60s while yesterday in dying light of all things I watched my lcd screen and it was sitting at 66 for some time which at this rate is a rare occasion lol. I know there are cooler cpu than this but yeah for this ones rep wtf is going on with the difference here?

Your a life saver man! All I found before were videos about it running hot but no solutions. I noticed right away on my new build going from my 2700x to the 5800x. I was running 88-90c under load with an MSI Mag 240mm AIO in a push/pull setup. After using Ryzen master to tweak the settings. I instantly saw a huge drop. Running 72-74c in cinebench tests and only lost 0.2 ghz across all cores. Boost all cores to 4.4ghz. I am running an x470 MB, eventually I will get an x570 board and spend more time really tweaking it. You have gave me peace of mind and a great starting point. Just fix the max voltage to 1.2V in the bios settings, before the CPU used to reach 90°C in AIDA64 Extreme CPU+FPU+cache test in around 30 seconds with the voltage getting as high as 1.475V and 4,4-4,5GHz , now with lowered voltage reaches almost 4,9GHz and runs at 71°C in the same test ... Also you consume less energy with wattage going from high 120W figures to around 100W .
@danishblunt9698
@danishblunt9698 Жыл бұрын
It's not a good idea because AMD chips are more susceptible to high current damage than high voltage. If you force low voltage on an AMD chip you force high current which will degrade your chip quicker, this misconception about keeping voltage low is due to intel chips working in reverse where voltage is the main degradation point when having mediocre current.
@jamarcus_OG

@@danishblunt9698 but the wattage dropped from 120 to around 95-100W , at least for MSI afterburner. I have no other way to measure the consumption.
@danishblunt9698
@danishblunt9698 Жыл бұрын
@@jamarcus_OG the current will rise the higher the temps are going to get as well. Manual mode also has no protection against to much current either as you can see if you open ryzen master when you check your limits. While manual does lower powerdraw it does raise current and removes limits completely leaving your cpu to get quite current hungry. Its not going to instantly kill your cpu or anything but your cpu will get more unstable over the next few weeks and youll have to steadily up the voltage since the chip degrades.
@jamarcus_OG

@@danishblunt9698 So your suggestion are .. ? If I'm not wrong, a simple rule (not exact by any means) states that W=V•A , so to draw 104W=1,2V • 87,5A (theoretical) . With default (or Auto) mobo bios settings 143W=1,413V • 101A (theoretical) with the default settings. HW info, during an AIDA64 Extreme stress test on CPU-FPU-Cahce , with downvoltage to 1,2V , detected TDC 67Amp peak / EDC 140Amp peak , while with default auto settings TDC up to 89Amp with the same 140Amp EDC which is Mobo limited. So no my friend, downvoltage isn't hurting anything, maybe the opposite. I got 300MHz plus of boost on all cores with downvoltage, 20°C less peak temperature, 23A less peak TDC , 40W less peak consumption. Don't spread misinformation please. If you want proof , I still have screenshots of the tests and values detected...

Dude. Simply brilliant. I literally was just about exchange this CPU. Now I’m going to implement this advice and see what happens. I knew there was something funky when OC at maximum got exactly the same 90-degree FurMark benchmark. I was scratching my head and now I know why! Update: I started with the recommended settings and did some things slightly different to accommodate my exact situation. Default settings for PPT,TDP, EDC are 142, 95, 140 respectively. I set mine to 109, 95, 130 which yielded a Cinebench score of 15092 @76C. I kept the other stuff auto. I may also reset my Dark Rock Pro cooler with a different thermal paste, but we'll see.

Okay tried it with some modifications of my own. My 5800X seems to be getting nerfed by ASUS BIOS updates. 6.1k to 5.9k CB20. No idea why this is the case. I was worried about the thermal performance at first because it's dismal considering that I'm running the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420mm. I've tried offset mounts and different thermal pastes to no avail. Thermal paste spread was fairly consistent too. For my old settings that got me the 5.9k score, it was running at -25 on all cores (Curve Optimiser) and peaked at 84 degrees. I tried these settings PPT: 125 TDC: 100 EDC: 80 Curve Optimiser: -25 all core All core boost reads between 4.6-4.65Ghz and the temps max out at 79 degrees. All core score is still 5.9k ish. I experienced a drop to 5.65k for 115W so 125W worked better for my specific CPU. Overall, I'd say that the guide worked great as a starting point. Thanks for sharing!

Anyway an update! I found out that the drop on score was caused by AURA Sync. Turning it off before i started the test got the score back up to normal. The problem with this is that most people do not tune their PC or know how to, if AMD would set a more reasonable voltage/clockspeed from the get go we would not have these issues with this CPU having a short life down the line or people hammering customer service because they're hitting 90C on their brand new CPU. I think this is irresponsible/sketchy by AMD.

Tech notices video made my ducking blood boil. Good work man it’s such a simple fix and a fantastic processor. Even next to my 5900x the cpu is great. These people should be more concerned with specific ram to use, motherboards, nvme drives, motherboard chipsets and how/why the pcie lanes are connected for optimal video editing. I just see a kid grabbing random *new components with little to no explanation of why. Dude Guaranteed has no actual idea how a pc works in unison and how to properly set it up. He actually said “it’s not worth having to SET UP your computer.” I mean WHAT!?!?! Conclusion- don’t listen to people who only buy the most expensive and newest parts and give you tutorials on how to build a pc are not competent. That don’t understand basic principles of how important things like cast latency, chipsets, memory controllers, how to configure your Fucking bios….. ok I’m done. Thanks man I’m glad you made this video.

I observed the same. My 5900x runs cooler at stock settings. But after I've played around with my 5800x a bit I now get 6150 points in r20 and barely hit 72c. My 5800x does negative 30 for the curve optimizer and the lower power target all day long. So I think I got a good unit.

The info in this video is quite amazing. First, I have great cpu cooling with a noctua nh-d15s with two fans and great case air flow. With pbo on and ppt, tdc edc set to auto, my 5800x runs about 82c after a 5 minute run of cinebench r20, and 70-75c while playing games which is well within specs and is okay, but then... Using the info here I set PPT to 115, TDC to 100, and EDC to 80, and now it runs at 70c which is 15 degrees cooler and only loses a few hundred points from the cinebench score. I lost about 3 fps in games. 15 degrees cooler and 3 fps loss in gaming which is not enough of a performance loss to notice. Thanks.

Do you have any recommendations for a 5950x with a noctua NH-D15 with process lasso being used on the first ccd for my games, unsure if I’m unnecessary using to high of power limits. PPT 130 TDC 95 EDC 120, 1x scalar to avoid deg, and -150 boost override to avoid boosting to 5.1ghz and my pc bsod every 5 seconds. Games like battlefield 2042 are like low 80c’s which I’m a bit confused about was expecting that to be lower unless I’m doing something wrong

Thx. My cpu always ran hot. Cinebench R20 gives 6111 at 142TDP and with 105TDP it gives 6009. But instead of hitting 90gr and throttle down it goes to Max 74grC. Singlecore performance still 620.

I have put Eco-mode on in BIOS and set CPU max (in OS) on 99%. That gives me very low temps and low wattage during normal desktop work (youtube, excel, powerbi). It maxes to 3750MHz. Cinebench 11479. So there is a degradation but hardly noticable during deskwork. When I start a game (FS2020) the cpu boosts to 4700 MHz, temps between 70-80 C Exactly what i want. Very happy with this. I do have a relatively low ranked GPU (GF 1660Ti) Why it works like that i dont know.

first of all i do agree with this guy and yes i left a big comment on that dude saying don't buy this and that, which is total BS and as someone who dealt with at least 15 Ryzen 2 and Ryzen 3 CPUs i can say that the motherboards are super generous with the voltage which makes the CPU go nuts and exceed what so many people consider "safe temps" but you take just one minute and actually check the bios or maybe update it to support PBO 2.0 you will see that the temps will go down and the performance will remain the same, it's really simple you just need to have an idea on how the voltage is over supplied to the CPU also we didn't have this issue with the Zen+ CPUs they ran cool and didn't have any temp spikes even if they used a IO die + a CCD on one side of the IHS. my X570 was literally chocking my CPU with a lot of voltage on auto settings making it idle at 55c ffs 55c on idle that's not great but after some tinkering i got it down to 40c on idle and 73c under load while gaming it's always around the high 50s low 60s depending on how CPU demanding the title is so no go out and get any Zen 3 CPU that you can get your hands on, they are literally the best out there.

I just cant process this video ... for me it is against overclocking cpu and gpu fundamentals Power is performance Lower ppt less than 142w (pbo) means lower multithread performance not singalthread performance. Renderings will lose performance Gamer mostly will not affected by low ppt unless they open many heavy apps while gaming to hit ppt limit Therefore if you are a gamer moslty you will be lower than ppt limit so no point to lower it in first place your temp is not affected If you are multithread user you lose performance for lower temp so it is give and take situation depends on your cooling Voltage is the actual key to lower temp without lossing performance Lowering temp is to gain more performance not to be happy about the lower temp itself put in mind amd telling you you are ok below 90c. Below 85c you are totally fine.

@CknSalad
@CknSalad 3 жыл бұрын
John Jenkins the ram config video from GN was half baked. 4x8 is generally equal or slightly better than 2x16 depending on mobo topology. From just reading lots of compiled stats, dual rank is generally 133-200mhz better than single rank dual channel. So 3600cl16 dual rank is about 3600cl14 or 3800cl18 single rank. Also, dual rank will mainly benefit from more cpu bound games. So, games that are more gpu bound maybe naturally or due to running at a higher resolution like 2560x1440, generally not going to see much difference between similar memory timings and speeds.
