Got mine this May , every day since then I'm falling more in love with it, the interesting thing is we don't have BRZ in the UK only GR86 and the engines are slightly bigger , they generate 235 horse power also they all come as a premium model, we don't have the base models like in the us and they cost aroun 42k in us dollars.
@JTelesco2 ай бұрын
Nice to hear you’re enjoying! The motors in the BRZ and 86 are the same though, zero difference.
@leom86052 ай бұрын
@@JTelesco I know, but there is difference between the GR86 engines in the UK and I think the rest of Europe and the GR86/BRZ engines in the USA, the ones in the UK and Europe are 235 horse power , whereas the ones in the USA are 228 hp, not sure if those 7 horses would make much difference but I think they probably do and I'm surprised, thought it should have been the other way around.
@bearclaw51152 ай бұрын
Not 235HP. 235PS. 235PS is equivalent to 232HP. But I'm not sure there is any actual difference to the engine between countries. Perhaps different ratings due to higher octane fuel. It certainly isn't bigger. And the engine is under-rated in any case. It actually makes around 245HP at the crank. And now the GR86 is discontinued in the U.K. and Europe so the U.S. has the last laugh after all! Get'm while you can that is for sure.

I just test drove a 2024 GR86 and compared to my current car (2016 Miata Club w/BBS+Brembo+sway bars), it's nowhere near as sharp.. I was actually disappointed as I was on a waiting list for one a couple of years ago, but ended up getting something different (not the miata).. I never got a chance to test drive one until a couple of days ago and yea, not as good as I was hoping.. The shifter is quite poor for it going straight into the gearbox.. my STI had better shift feel.. and the clutch.. the clutch is totally lifeless.. it's an on/off switch with no indicating that the clutch is grabbing, other than the car is moving lol.. Brakes weren't up to my liking (the car only had 6 miles, so that could've been the reason.. pad material hasn't fully bedded yet).. Just too many things that would require attention for a $33k~ car.. If you can only have one car, the GR86 is a good compromise vehicle for around $30k.. If you can have two cars or more.. I'll always say go Miata and a daily/beater (i have a Fiesta ST as my 'daily').. The miata is a much more focused and pure driving experience as the platform was created from the get go to be a sports roadster, unlike the BRZ/GR86 which is based on the Impreza chassis, so it had to make compromises.. The cool part is both my Miata and FiST cost me less than a new gr86 lol.. I'm not saying it's a bad car.. it's just not the right car for me, at that price, at this time.. I'd add one later one for like $10-15k, but who knows if that'll be the price once EVs are the only new cars you can buy.. all these 'enthusiast cars' will go up in value.. some will skyrocket.. Which is why I have an ND1 Miata (prefer the low end torque compared to the higher revving ND2) and a Fiesta ST.. both are great cars to drive and super easy to maintain and fairly inexpensive to run.. and the smiles per gallon/$$ add up..
@Dragon2288336 ай бұрын
I feel like you didnt like the car because youre comparing a performance pack miata with a non performance pack 86. Base to base, the 86 is the sharper car but a miata with the best of the best brakes and suspension upgrades will of course be leaps and bounds better than the standard 86. The performance pack is only on the trueno edition sadly but will be available for all 86’s later down the line
@dre32pitt6 ай бұрын
@@Dragon228833 'leaps and bounds' is a bit much, lol.. And my main complaint, the clutch, is the same on either variant.. And the stock bilsteins on the club aren't anything to write home about.. just standard OTS dampers (B6's iirc).. the body roll was so much, which is why i did the swaybar upgrade.. For me to give up my two car setup, the car would have to really blow me away (like the first time i drove an ND1 base model) and it didn't.. The only thing that really impressed me was the low end torque (peak is 3800rpm iirc).. that makes for a much more fun drive around town, but that lackluster clutch feel (yes, you can remove the spring/adjust it and what have you, but even then it's nowhere near as good as the miata's.. my friend had a 14 for the last 8 years and tracked it regularly and never could get the clutch the way he wanted it) And I didnt just arbitrarily just comapre the gr86 to a miata.. i compared it to a car I own, which is what most people are goign to do.... You make it sound like im a reviewer who's just bench comparing these vehicles, lol..
@Dragon2288336 ай бұрын
@@dre32pitt yea the clutch is the number 1 complaint about the car i can definitely see how you aren’t really blown away by the car, especially since its a lateral step from your current car. I kinda treated your comment like you were a reviewer since you wrote a whole essay that was even broken down into paragraphs 😂😂😂. I have a 2022 86 and its much sharper than my na6 but i miss my miata every day (rotting away in my parents back yard and hasnt run for 4 years)
@dre32pitt6 ай бұрын
@@Dragon228833 Haha, i feel you.. Im just a car guy who's driven/owned a bunch of cars and likes new driving experiences.. but the older I get the more Im honing in on what I really enjoy from driving.. Working my arms and working my hands, so steering, shifter, and pedal box feel are paramount to me.. Sound and looks come in second/third.. I had a 987.1 Cayman S before the miata and FiST.. That Cayman is the best handling car i've ever driven.. mid-engine layout is superior for agility.. While I loved the car, it was expensive to modify, lol.. I sold it to my good buddy (I have right of first refusal should he want to part with it).. BUT, it taught me what I want/need from driving.. And, like usual, Miata was the answer.. Distilled down, it's the same driving experience with subtle differences.. Steering feel on anything after 2012 is basically non-existent compared to that Cayman.. Always knew what hte front was up to.. even in the wet.. you get a TON of texture feel of the road through the wheel.. So, im enjoying the way I like to drive (back roads mainly), but in a more reasonable package.. My Cayman was cheaper than a new GR86 as well, lol.. And it's a good one as the PCA VP of this region owned it for 10 years and serviced it at the same Porsche shop, so I had all the records.. No IMS issues (higher mileage cars generally wont have IMS issues.. woulda happened by then) and no tell-tale signs of borescoring (he sent an oil sample to Blackstone and they confirmed, no cylinder lining materials in the oil).. So my plan going forward is to 'collect' cars as I go.. trying to stay around 10-15k.. like i did with my ND1 and FiST.. Probably 370z or high mileage Evo X will be next.. Some of the cars I've owned (all manual).. MS3 MS6 Mk7.5 GTI Mk3 GTI VR6 98 Mustang GT 18 STI Type RA 21 Civic Type R 16 Fiesta ST E39 M5 92 Civic Hatch 85 Prelude Si 79 Chevy Scottsdale 14 Focus ST 07 Cayman S 18 Challenger ScatPack 16 Miata Club (current) 17 Fiesta ST (current) Edit: And you should definitely rescue your na6! It'll be sought after in about 15-20 years.. even as a frame lol. And yes.. paragraphs just make it easier for folks to read.. reading a wall of text is painful lol

I always make it a point to never subscribe and like any channel where I'm asked to subscribe and like- especially when they ask me before the content has even started. That's like asking me to write a good review for a restaurant I've never eaten at. As for the video content- I can't really agree with this car holding value and being a future collectible. It's considered relatively slow, noisy and doesn't possess any interesting quirks or special design attributes- nor is it part of any significant pop culture. It's just an entry-level sporty car that will eventually fade from the public conscious...I mean, in 25 years what will you be trying to re-live by getting one? Not saying it's not a good little car for the money, but there's absolutely nothing special about it.
@Rob165x6 ай бұрын
It’s about the chassis balance, the weight, and it being a RWD manual with an LSD. Your argument is very hollow, and kinda basic-B thinking. Nobody who buys this car cares about it being fast in a straight line, or “quirks” or “mainstream appeal” or tech or even the damn noise. It’s a true driver’s car, less luxury and safety the better, what matters is how it drives so you have no idea wtf you’re talking about.

"Fade from public consciousness" will it though? That sounds like nonsense. The 86 Platform (across the board) is talked about in every racing/track attack/autocross group I have ever attended, seen, or spoken with people from. I think that is a gross underestimation of the Twins themselves. Whenever someone says "Miata" the *only* REAL competitor to the Miata IS... IN FACT, the Twins.
@afellowinnewengland61426 ай бұрын
@@khayon4364 Racing/track/autocross groups don't set the market or prices on cars down the road. They're a small niche group in this day and age. To have collectibility and demand down the road a vehicle needs to be two or more of the following: -Rare, low volume or simply have demand outstrip supply. -Possess unique, progressive or unconventional attributes in terms of design or function -Be a cultural touchstone or be famous as a hero vehicle in a movie, tv show, etc. -Be a vehicle too ahead of its own time for success -Be a platform for a new trend (think 32 Fords turned into modern hot rods). The BRZ/GR 86 are common, inexpensive, possess no unique or unconventional engineering, do not use a dedicated powertrain, have inexpensive interiors, and in 25 years will make even an entry-level vehicle seem like a rocket ship... Given that it doesn't even have the novelty of being a convertible- demand and interest will be low. I'm speaking from a half century in automotive. You can get upset about it but facts are facts.
