If you're doing this, remember to scream while deadlifting to compensate for how little noise the plates make upon touching the ground. You need to let everyone know that you're lifting heavy weights

Slow eccentric deadlifts are becoming a game changer for me. When I do regular speed conventional deads my back does not round anymore like it used to. I pulled 102% for 1 rep at an RPE of 6. It was bloody amazing!

Been telling idiots this for years. Did a complete a while ago and a couple people watching said I should of got an award for how gentle I put the weight down. I won my weight that day too.👍🏼
@andrewtanczyk40093 жыл бұрын
☝🏼 I thought it would increase your strength by lowering slowly.
@OFFSHOREDOUG3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewtanczyk4009 it does. 2 reasons. You extend the time under stress when you lower the weight in a controlled manner and also you work a lot more muscle in the negative part than you do in the positive part.
@jaghad3 жыл бұрын
@@OFFSHOREDOUG Reason 2 is absolute baloney. Tell me, what are the different muscles that you recruit lowering the bar compared to rasining the bar? Reason 1 is correct and that is the reason why controlling the eccentric movement in the DL is important. However, it is also fatiguing. Thus, the total tonnage you can lift in a session doing controlled eccentrics is going to be less.
@OFFSHOREDOUG3 жыл бұрын

I've always controlled the eccentric, even when I PR. I've recently heard though that hamstring tears and lower back injuries nearly always happen during the eccentric on a deadlift. Is this not really an issue if you're like me and always controlled the eccentric contrary to randomly starting doing it so you've built up the muscles and joint or are there always a risk?

I also have no desire to sit and drop the weight on every set when I’m done with my reps I like to do the eccentric but I do have a question since they put this video out I have watched I don’t know how many super training videos of them deadlifting And I’m not gonna go back and double check this because there’s just too many videos but It sure seemed that an awful lot of their deadlift videos at least in the past they dropped the weight at the top quite a bit Just saying that because I find it kind of funny that they are coming out of this video now but if there’s one thing that has irritated me over the years about deadlift videos It’s all the people that will tell you to do the eccentric but then you watch all of their dead the videos They drop the weight at the top constantly almost every set couple big-name people that I love watching their videos at least I used to anyway now I don’t watch them as much Because they have turned into most of the other people doing stupid shit just to get views instead of putting out quality content Big boy and Larry wheels and the list can go on and on and on of the morons that think they need to drop the weight when they’re done with a set anyway hate on me all you want those are my two cents

If you want to lift for competition or some personal goal then do deadlifts. If you're lifting for general fitness and health deadlifts can (and should) be skipped. I don't think the risk/reward ratio over the long term justifies doing them for a person living a "normal" life. I'm a 50 y/o lifter been doing it since around 25. I haven't included deadlifts in my routine for at least 15 years and it's made no difference in my overall fitness and mobility. There are much safer ways to hit those same muscles.
@bendtaaen633 жыл бұрын
Some people disagree on this totally. Deadlift is a natural movement pattern and could be trained safely. Overdoing it may cause long term damage to the joints(As do a lot of other powerlifting exersises when pounded year after year). When you exclude deads in your program you miss out on a great powerbuilding-exercise in my opinion (Recreational powerlifter - 60 years of age - Wouldnt do without them ). But to each his own. Have a great day.
@Leester-703 жыл бұрын
@@bendtaaen63 I've yet to find an opinion people don't disagree on. And again, I was not talking about powerlifting - that would be a competition or a personal goal. Most of us aren't powerlifters nor have any desire to be. I was talking specifically about lifting for health and fitness. You don't need to deadlift to keep good hip mobility and posterior chain strength. My goal is not to rack up numbers on a bar, it's to be able to navigate a flight of stairs at 80.
@bendtaaen633 жыл бұрын
@@Leester-70 Powerlifter :-) I am not that strong. I just want to be (a little )stronger to keep my body working as old-age comes creeping :-) . I strongly believe that strength training will benefit me here. And I enjoy the powerlift exercises and have build my program around them. Mark Bell (as well as many others)is a great source of info regarding this. I hope you reach your goal :-)
@Leester-703 жыл бұрын
@@bendtaaen63 I strength train. To me strength training and powerlifting are two different things. But it doesn't really matter, deadlifts or not we're both way ahead of the average 50-60 year old man who sits on the couch doing nothing.
