It's very easy to become discouraged with our art and just cast it aside with less-than-enthusiastic plans to "deal with it later." But more often than not, that work gets left behind, never to be finished.
We should rethink our methods if we find ourselves doing this regularly. Leaving work unfinished can be frustrating and it can actually drain us of our creativity. Especially when we over time have built up a pile of unfinished artwork. Some would call it artistic karma. But to many of us, that situation can feel like a weight tied to our creativity, ever pulling us downward and further away from putting in the effort that is required in order to create the things that we really want to create.
In this video, I discuss my thoughts and advice for finishing your art and why it's important to do!
Have a fantastic day, and until next time, take care!

I always struggled with this throughout school with my artwork, nowadays I still do. Honestly, it's part of the reason why I hesitate to start any new project. Lately I've been trying to find the motivation to get back into it. "Making time" is an excuse I use often, but lately I've been doing a little bit here and there. This is a great video man, I'm going to keep reminding myself of this anytime I approach any future projects.

Self sabotage.... this is a CONSTANT problem. My bedroom is my studio, there's a bed and the entire rest of the room is my desk, drawers upon drawers of art stuff and boxes and boxes of paints, supplies, etc, dropcloths, canvases from 2x2" to 3x4 feet. I have so much stuff that i can't focus in any one project. Thanks for this video, this is exactly what i was looking for.

You`ve really hit a nerve with that video. Pretty often I`m starting to really struggle at the first point of sketching because I can see my mistakes but I`m unable to solute them at the moment. This struggle hold me back to draw and make it worse because the lack of training your drawing skills, which you need to solute the mistakes. But I don`t want to hold myself back, just do it and for a moment it will maybe suck in some point but at least you`ve drawn something and finished it. Your words and your videos really helps me and motivate me. Thank you!

This is a great video! I need a lot more discipline. Fear and being unconfident has made it so that I no longer trust myself when it comes to my writing. So it was weird that you mentioned writing a story. And now that I want to learn to draw as well, I’m seeing similar patterns in my habits. So thanks for discussing this topic.

I actually haven't had too much trouble finishing pieces once I start them, but I have struggled with getting distracted/not disciplined enough, the main distraction was video games. When I got rid of the video game I was addicted to about 6 months ago, I started getting a LOT more work done! If it's possible to remove an unnecessary time-consuming distraction, do it!

Thank you. I suffer from a raft of things which I think I may use in self-sabotage as an excuse to not paint. As well as the eternal self doubt as I was in my sixties when I first picked up a paintbrush. Don’t stop sharing. 💞🙏🦋😘

Ooh. I have this problem currently. I really wanted to do a HUGE Smaug painting and I drew it on the canvas and I haven’t touched it for like 3 months. It looks awesome but I’m scared to start it cause of the devotion it’ll take to finish cause it’s in e big canvas.

thank you! I'm glad it helps. Sometimes it's hard to recognize (or admit to ourselves) that we're doing it, but most often the main thing that gets in our way is ourselves. Cheers and have a great weekend!

You make a solid point, how do i know what to improve if i dont continue/finish my work. Atm im "stuck" at a 3D horror project and am not sure what and how to create an ending (3D interactive scene). i have shelved it and dont look forward to finishing it, but i get the sence its still better to finish it even if it will be bad. that way i learn anything and it will be a good reference when i look back from the future. So i will finish it even if i dont feel like it, your video makes sence. Thank you. :)
