They say it takes 20+ days to build a habit so I’m trying to make art everyday. In this video I am recreating some Studio Ghibli-inspired landscapes while sharing a few things I’ve learned about alcohol markers.

Japanese illustrators have traditionally used poster-colour. Studio Ghibli is no different I believe. In this part of the world including India poster colour is the popular choice.

Discipline is a lot more fun when you alter the psychological meaning of it through thinking differently. Great advice.

Don't be so hard with your self: just being creative every day is an awesome goal. And drawing a smile is already being creative! :) Anyway, thank you for sharing this with us, I've really missed you.

Very valuable lessons, I am gonna show this to my middle schoolers! I never thought of framing the practice is takes to make art as a habit, thanks!

I am trying to make art journaling every day. I haven't manage it already but I do create at least 3 or 4 times a week... and that's great though. But, as I entirely reorganized my art studio, I have the ideal condition to try again ! For the pleasure, not under pressure. 😊 Thanks for this beautiful video, I love to see your art. 🧡

So beautiful ❤️ I love the approach you take. I should do the same thing with handlettering. I feel that "dedicating 30 min daily" is easier that saying "I will master this & that" ... And I believe it will all feel more rewarding as the goal is more manageable and less stressful.

I love how your landscapes turned out. I enjoyed your process and seeing your skill. Over a year ago, I started a 100 day sketch challenge. The only requirement was a minimum of six minutes. Today was day 435. Some days, I do a very quick sketch before bed,. There have been a few times, I have fought to stay awake. Other times, I've spent hours. I have changed from the concept of doing sketches to doing art. If I get to do plein air sketching and/or painting that would count for that day. There are reasons it would take to long to get into why I don't dare take a day off. I am retired so that helps. Being a mother has a very important priority in life.. What also helps me is marking the day number on a big calendar in my art room. I so hope you will be successful in developing an art habit. But whatever you do, please don't beat yourself up for any lapses. It took me several attempts to get my habit established.

These are so beautiful Sarica. Your colour palette and the marks you make on the page, you truly are an artist! I cut right back on my social media for quite a few months so I have many of your videos to catch up on. I also stepped back from creating but if anything can inspire me to make again, gorgeous videos like this can. I wholly agree with enjoying the process rather than trying to reach a goal; society can be all about achievement though so we all need reminders to make habits and love the journey. TFS 🤗

Congrats on the 100k! I agree with you on the habit versus goal thing. I started watercoloring recently - specifically i am interested in botanical watercoloring , and right now I'm focusing on trying to do it everyday.

It's literally 2am but I suddenly woke up and turned on my phone, and here I am😭Your voice lulls me back to sleep though, always so calm and gentle🥺Also, making habits instead of goals is a mindset I want to learn too so that I can push myself towards actually doing something and not dreading over the results and whether or not I would be able to actually reach the goals!! This is such a nice video to 'start' the day🦔💜✨

Thank you for this advice! Usually, when we're starting to build habits, it can feel overwhelming. Often, the pressure to be in the "perfect state" in the beginning drowns out our desire to take the first step. This is why I appreciate what you said about not being too rigid with goals. Excited to watch more helpful and soothing content from you, Sarica! Your landscape artworks are lovely, by the way

I draw since I have memories and I choosed Art high school and then Architecture. So true that when you are so deep in your “job” time is very relative, I passed hours painting drawing or studying and then I realize that was night and I never ate nothing...🤣 By the way if you are determined to improve your art skills and build a new habit first you have to go out to your confort zone. I know it seems terrible but the one and right way is to face the new goals one o one. Stop with the great Ghibli Studio (love miyazaki from his first job in 1978/80) and start study anatomy and portrait for example. The more difficult portrait you can do is about a baby or an old person, start with some famous faces as actors/ess or artists. Anatomy for proportion is the unique base about human or every kind of species you want to draw or paint (flora and fauna but also how a building is, which are the lines that create the figure...dunno but that’s what I did when I studies, my accomplishments and my goals too. You ll do it, have the right disposition and discipline to reach your goals and others that now you can never imagine 💪

That's great! I agree that I should get out of my comfort zone. I've got a few more landscapes and then I plan to start a challenge for drawing 100 portraits. That's not my strong suit, so it will push me to improve my skills. Thanks for watching!

Hi Sarica! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us 💖 Creating an art habit is a great idea! I have got to the stage where I can't start any art because of the fear of messing up. My goal is always to make perfect art, even if its just in my sketchbook, which is crazy. So I will follow your lead and just try to have fun without expectations! xxx

Sarica! I love this new art practice of yours! I too believe the habit is more important than the goal. And if you can’t do it on day because of some unforeseen emergency- that’s ok! You have the right intentions and you are driven. I believe in you! I would love to see videos from you in the future on how you balance art and motherhood. I know you’re still a new mother and figuring out your art groove, but your insight is valuable regardless. Hope to hear about that topic eventually as I plan to embark on that journey too eventually :)

I create a memory thumbnail sketch every day, and an energy sketch pertaining to my key to energy, e.g. this month, I'm drawing flowers that correspond to what my energy was that day. I track why my energy was that way with food, sleep, or? I'm also writing a graphic memoir about how I used my health and fitness knowledge to stop my mother with dementia from forgetting me, and it worked. No caffeine, no pharmaceuticals, and lastly no processed sugar, but keeping her away from sugar was a comedy routine. I know art helps with so much, but have you read anywhere specifically where it helps stop dementia/Alzheimer's. I haven't. My mother hated to stay home and I couldn't blame her because she couldn't concentrate, see or hear well to read or watch TV, so I brought her to a lot of paintnites (but I used a big art pad instead of canvas's) I would make her tell me what I'm missing etc. It was good for both of us, until stupid people complained that she walked around a lot, which didn't hurt anyone. I just thought I would see if you've read that. I agree the studio ghibli colors are amazing, and your landscapes look pretty as well.

I really enjoyed this. :) At the moment I have multiple sketchbooks & there all mainly for me to use for my classes. But one is for something else, so maybe I'll get another sketchbook or see if I can locate another sketchbook to just practice some stuff in. Who knows. But setting a habit is a good idea.

Super calming video! I'm also 100% on-board with habits > goals. I found that goals stressed me out. Setting aside some time every day will accumulate! Have you ever read "Atomic Habits" by James Clear? If not, I highly recommend it. It's an eye-opener. Clear gives doable steps in implementing new habits and destroying bad ones. You're doing fantastic and your art really inspires me to keep going! Thank you! :)

Oh my God so much like me!!! 😅 I am creating the same habit of making art everyday.. , that becomes really challenging with working another job and having a baby full time with me because of the pandemic. It is crazy. I have the same set of ohuhu markers and I have been using it too. I did a yellow huge flower 2 spreads ago. It was really weird seeing this and relating so much. 😊 Keep doing what you do even if it's just a little. 😘 Hang in there we will have time to paint more eventually ahahhaha ☺️
