I learn how to drive in the Marine Corps in 1956. I served from 1955 to 1998 in the Marine Corps and the Army retired with 43 years of service. Because my first experience of driving was in a jeep manual transmission I never have noticed a difference. I am 83 years old and over half my life I have been driving and been a passenger in military vehicles. By the way that is a great looking jeep.

My first vehicle was a 43 Willy’s MB. Iv had cj’s a wrangler and my favorite the Scrambler. I’m 62 and just bought the ultimate 4 wheel drive truck ! Yup, Jeep Gladiator Overland ! The most versatile man’s rig you can own. If you thought a Toyota Trd was tough, don’t buy a JT, you’ll hate that you ever owned a Toyota, I know Iv had 4 of them. The Gladiator does it all very well !

Bought my 2023 Mojave about 3 months ago and don't regret it at all. It's windy, the fuel mileage is crap, and there's not really any storage space except for the bed. I don't really do off-roading except for taking it out to the beach and some LIGHT (and I do mean light) trail riding. But I wouldn't trade this thing for the world. It's gorgeous. It has enough creature comforts to keep me happy. It's easy to work and mod. The community is great. And there's nothing quite like pulling the top off when you're on the beach. I'm in love.

Did you see the white FJ Cruiser across the street about 3 houses down? Now that's a vehicle. Great daily driver, smooth riding like a luxury car, extra fun to drive, no wind noise and no road noise and very capable off road. Jeeps are great too off road but your 3 reasons is why I would stick to my FJ Cruiser. Thanks for putting this up!

@Odorous Smegma I've not had a single problem with my FJ since I bought it over 5 years ago and I own it lock stock and barrel. Insurance & gas ain't bad when you own it outright. Also I'm averaging over 20mpg have been since I bought him. If you are fearful of an Armageddon I would not get a Cheap Jeep. And whenever the wife & I go garage saleing my FJ always gets compliments. I like to keep him nice and shiny.

@masterchicancergrade3 Yes! I don't take my FJ out to intentionally break him out on the rocks. But when the weather is nasty and it can get that way here or there's a shrubbery, rocky, sandy, loose rocks. watery snowy route that cars cannot go? I can and I do all the time gleefully and wave as I go past all the obstructions so I can get to where I'm goin FJ Cruiser style. And Oh yes my FJ drives just as well on pavement.

I new two people who owned a FJ. They are one bad ass looking rigs. One was Yellow and one was that ugly blue. But though they were not the same year, they had one thing in common. They both leaked oil. The Yellow belong to my brother in law He's a mustang/Vette guy but he got the FJ. Main seal leaked like a artery. It only had like 80k miles on it. My 77 Celica had the 20R 4 banger. So did my 81 Celica but it had some major issues that left me stranded a couple of times and wouldn't start in the 90 deg temps. But the 77 was solid as a rock. But I've always asked, if FJ's were so great? Where are they today?

Couldn't agree more... for a jeep, it is amazing. I drive a lot of different cars and the real thing that killed it for me was the idea that I couldn't be on a work call because they heard a bunch of background air noise and i do a lot of work calls while driving, hence my thought on this. Otherwise I could care less about the noise!

The price, the price, and the price for a fully optioned Rubicon.....when you can purchase a fully oped Tacoma Pro for less that comes with the reliability, resale value of Toyota & not the quality control issues of an FCA vehicle. Jeep has lost its roots, but I do appreciate the side work I receive from repairing the later models :)f

Tacoma's are great... But way underpowered and simply don't crawl the way jeeps do. They have their niche but even an FCA Jeep is better than a Tacoma for what I do with it. Everyone has different views though. Thanks for the comment.

Resale value is pretty good compared to other American makes. I do not like tons of electric options. Just more to go wrong. Engine is an old dependable design from a Mini Van and upgraded over the years to improve fuel economy and power. Get a Standard! GET A STANDARD! I would not trust Dodge or Fiat auto transmissions. I just don't. Plus if you take it off road it has to be Manual. Stop and go City traffic will be a pain. Lost it's roots. It isn't a giant metal tub with a 1960's inline 6 anymore. It is more modular and the metal is thinner. Besides that it is an upgrade. Toyota's are slow and under powered. Great truck though.

I’ve had Toyotas since 1998 and the IFS and their constant trying to make them more like a car pisses me off. I buy trucks because I want it to be a truck. I drive a tractor trailer for a living so I don’t care about noise or comfort. My main concern is I like that Toyotas don’t break so I’m really torn about getting a Jeep because I want the Rubicon driveline. You see my conundrum? Haha

As a kid I had a friend with a CJ. That was semi brutal. Years later I bought a TJ 2002 new. It rode as good as any truck. It was a little bouncy but it was a soft bounce. I had half doors and went through a sand storm with the uppers off. I raised mine and put on tires with tread. The tire roar was kind of a pain. NO AC! I ordered Mitsch seat extenders so I could stretch out my legs with an extra 3 inches. If anyone thinks this much newer Jeep Wrangler is rough or does not have room or loud or hot or whatever... MAN UP! Can't rock a Jeep buy a Prius or Civic and make sure it is in a Soy color. LOL!

Love your Rubicon. I have a 2017 Rubicon Recon edition, TRD PRO Tacoma and TRD OFFROAD 4X4 6 speed manual Tacoma (pro is a manual as well). Only thing I do not agree with is that it will leave the Tacoma in the dust. Desert running the Pro is great 👍 the Rubicon... not so much. Rock crawling is great with all of them. Does the Rubicon do it better? Yes but not so much as to state it leave it in the dust. The manual Tacoma (both the pro and offroad) have 4.30 rear end, locking differential in the rear and Atrac system which limits slip and redistributes power... its not a locker but it works really well. I enjoy wheeling all of them. But, I prefer the OFFROAD as it was the most affordable of the 3... by at least $12,000 so some trail damage won't hurt as much 😅

Just traded my 2019 Tacoma for a 2020 Gladiator, was not a bad truck but veery uncomfortable to drive very far. Poor back up camera interior look like 1980's Toyota is reliable but need to move into the 21st century. as far as the 3.6 engine designed by Benz this is a world class engine and is sweet with the 8 speed auto. The two worse vehicle I ever owned was a Chevy blazer and a Lincoln town car there is good and bad in all makes and models. all modern vehicles are pretty damn reliable with proper maintenance

Great video! I don't mind suspension bumps, noise, and interior space, but surprised you didn't mention the steering as positive or negative- I just hear elsewhere it's similar to the Wrangler. As a point of reference, is the steering & suspension similar to an old truck with front independent suspension? I did drive an old Wrangler (likely a YJ) and it felt just like driving a bus because I used to be a bus driver decades ago. Except the bus was huge and the old Jeep was tiny. My only concern is long road trips.

@@fabianmolina7784 Not so fast there cowboy. I've had 3 Toy's in my life. 77, 81 celica. One good, one POS. 2001 Toyota Sienna. OMG, JUNK. If you were riding with me in the 81 or the minivan, you and I would be stuck on the side of the road or not able to leave the driveway. But hey, I had a similar issue with a 90 Honda Accord Ex. I don't mind saying, my 93 Plymouth Voyager's repair record was 1/3 the size of the Honda's, never left me stranded like the Honda and never had the rear bumper just fall off in the drive way like the Honda. I'm not a Toyota or Honda fan. But I am on my 4th VW (2019 Atlas SEL Pri) I'm good.

Only reason I did not buy a Gladiator is that all the automatics are optioned out 10 to 15 thousand. That is silly. I can see a BMW or Mercedes optioned out that much but come one.

I will save everyone 5 minutes and 34 seconds - here are the three real reasons: 1. Wheel base the length of a bus, pickup or van = not great off-road compared to a two door Wrangler. Not even close. 2. The only manual transmissions that have pressure plates falling apart, with a giant recall. Who has heard of an unreliable manual transmission? 3. Four foot bed. Not only is it much less capable off-road than it's shorter brother, but the bed size is useless. It is a try to please everyone suburban street drivers vehicle, and that is the target customer this this is trying to be sold to. Jack of all trades, but master of none. Of course it is not a luxury SUV, and the fact that it is being compared to one says it all about the target buyer.

@@mcwendel8066 Yep, lots of dipshits out there. My biggest peeve on Jeep reviews is they don't give nearly enough weight to the fact that the doors and roof come off. It's either mentioned quickly off handedly or not mentioned at all. Unbelievable. That effects the engineering and therefore ALL of the vehicles dynamics. Argh

That's why when I got my 09 KK, I said I'll never get rid of it. 11 years old and still not once left me stranded and other then normal wear and tear replacements (surp belt for example), it's been a pretty rock solid rig

I'm 6 ft 1 in and have a 4-year-old and a 6 year old. No issues but I'm in a Wrangler not a gladiator. The Wrangler has about three to four inches more rear room, which in the Gladiator they gave to the truck bed instead.

Thank you for this video. I have been really considering a gladiator. This video just changed my mind. I have 3 kids 3,5 and 16. No way I could ride hours, like I would like with my chair pushed up and lacking leg room. My teen would probably hate me. Instead of making this my primary vehicle I'll grabbed one used as my second vehicle in a year or two. Thanks for putting the family spin on it. Plus I had a 2010 mustang (one of the last solid rear suspension mustangs). That thing was a nightmare to drive on the highway at high speeds. My next car was a BMW M 550d and now a 750Li. I hated the idea that if I hit a pebble at 70-80 I could wipe out my entire family.

I agree that is aesthetically unappealing to me!! Plus a full door same sized as front doors would make it easier getting in and out for back seat passengers. Would look a lot better as well!! Ok easier to find a door to replace it with if damaged, but cheaper to manufacture too I am sure.

If you think it drives bad then you may want to go change out your steering box, my 2020 had that aluminum steering box that would flex causing the vehicle to wonder and have very loose steering. My 2021 Gladiator has the steel steering box and man it is so much better and much safer too!

I mean that depends a lot on many factors... Are you trading in something? What's that worth? What is your credit like and what interest rate can u get? How many years do you want to finance it for? Depending on those factors, it could be anywhere from $500 to $1300 per month, or more or less haha. If you didn't trade a car in and out down a couple thousand dollars then financed it for 72 months, prob 850-1000 per month depending on the model and features... Use the Google car loan calculator, it will help a lot
