I went for the ecodiesel option. Full tilt. Absolutely love the rig. Power is fantastic. I've had to take a couple of trips to Oregon from Colorado so I've already got miles on it. The last trip out and back I got 34 mpg. Granted some of that mileage was following big rigs doing 75-80 mph using the radar cruise control. Note: the radar cruise is amazing - set it and it will follow (pace) the next vehicle in front no problem. Even if the followed vehicle comes to a stop- the Jeep will stop fully also. At that point the CC disengages. When the traffic starts to move simply tap "resume" and it takes off again. Absolutely effortless to drive. With the Banks Power mod it would be absolutely no problem with 40's and re-gearing wouldn't be necessary. Towing? You bet. This is way more torque than the gasser. Bought from Johnson Auto Plaza in Brighton, Colorado. 😁👍 Yes, the Decked option seems like a huge waste of space. Granted the plastic is so heavy duty that you could load a pallet of wood stove pellets on top of it no problem. But the option is way overpriced for what you get and it is not easily removed should you need to haul a bulky item. I have the Mopar lights on the front bumper - yes the are expensive no doubt but they are well built all metal casting and CRAZY bright. Would definitely buy them again.

Coming from a 94 Wrangler with the inline six to a 2017 with the V6, I definitely like the extra horsepower of the V6. But I really miss the old engine's low-end grunt. The V6 puts most of its power out at higher revs like a car engine, which is nice on the highway, but not as nice when you need it to get the weight of the jeep moving up a steep grade from a dead stop.

@StarGateSG73 жыл бұрын
I would rather get a 250 litre (65 gallon) in-bed extra fuel tank to increase the driving range, especially if I got the ecodiesel option. If you are trying to get AWAY from civilization, then the more range you have the better! Since I would be using this as an off-road 4x4 boondocking/overlanding vehicle, I would get the fully metal and taller truck bed cover which will keep all my gear dry AND let me used it as an actual sleeping bed if I buy one of those pull-out truck bed extenders that make the truck bed a full 2 to 3 feet longer than it's current 5 feet length. I would also get special in-bed racks for TWO 40 lbs Propane tanks for my cooking needs, my extra wheeled portable fridge, portable BBQ, some roll-up solar blankets and a 1500 watt 120v battery/iinverter to power my 150 watt ceramic heater and portable electronics. Add my inflatable bed and extra winter-rated driving cabin and bad-bed insulation for the coldest Canadian winters and a rack to hold my Shortwave and VHF radios and a Starlink satellite dish for my 120 megabit works-anywhere Internet/Netflix TV/IP Phone connection. Add the rooftop rack for my extra MRE/IMP rations, inflatable kayak and other fishing/camping gear and I will be staying away from the rest of the world for six months! v
@Decked3 жыл бұрын
Caution: marketing guy from DECKED here. Thanks for the honest review, and to be honest, it does not leave much room in the bed for other stuff if you don't have a rack or other containment. When Jeep made the Gladiator, it was two years after we had made our product for the Tacoma market, and we didn't see the reason to redesign for the Gladiator since the bed is tiny anyway-- they put the most pinner truck bed ever made on it, my kid's sandbox is bigger. Why? We don't know. They designed it to carry heavy loads, so why not give the user a real bed? Probably aesthetics is my guess. But the product we make fit, so why not make it work for the Gladiator? (if we hadn't we would have gotten a molotov cocktail thrown through an office window by angry Gladiator owners). You do lose space on the cabside end of the wheel wells, but Tommy failed to point out the two storage bins on the outboard sides of the tailgate end of the bed which are quite large and useful for segmenting and organizing loose things like straps, tie downs, hitches, cleaning products, camping items, etc). And our product does take up about a 4" wide swath down the middle of the bed with the center support. Otherwise the rest of the space is quite usable and arguably more useful. You do get a flat surface that actually gives you more level square footage to work with (but again I am the marketing guy so take that for what it's worth). What you gain, as Tommy mentions, is secure and weatherproof storage which is easy to access-- you don't need to crawl into the back of the truck. It's a tradeoff like anything else about this vehicle, including the vehicle itself. We do make some really affordable drawer accessories which would have made them even more useful, but it doesn't look like, from this video anyway, that much was ever put in the drawers. You can read un-edited & filtered reviews (except for obscenity) here decked.com/products/decked-jeep-gladiator?variant=15836002615362&year=2021

Amazing review. Here are couple of things I wish Jeep did. 1. Half doors from the factory like Ford Bronco, so when you remove the doors, you don't have those awkward doors. 2. The rear door of the Jeep wrangler and gladiator is too short. For bigger people like me, I am having a very difficult time getting in and out. Wish it was like 4 - 6 inches longer. 3. Paint the roof black and or cover it with the black fabric. Or at least have an option from the factory. 4. Offer V8 Hemi with Gladiator Mojave. That would be amazing. 5. Make roof fold into pieces so that you can store it away in the trunk. Specially with the gladiator.

Great video! I have been lusting after a Jeep pickup with a diesel for years. I’m waiting for the second gen ecodiesel to get the kinks worked out. It always amazes me that people buy a convertible with the hard top and then never take it off because it’s a pain in the ass. I know that soft tops are really cold up north I’m the winter, but soft tops are so much easier to put down. Same goes for the full hard doors. Get aftermarket soft doors and it’s a breeze to take them off and toss in the back. The open air top down doors off is the best part. The easier you make it, the more you will do it.

I’ve got a Decked system in my Raptor and I love it. However I agree with you if using it on a Gladiator. The Raptor bed is much wider and deeper. That makes the Decked system work much better IMO. But I’ll totally disagree with you on the Mopar 2” lift. That thing is not that great. It needs both front and rear track bars. I’ve seen other owners complain about the control arm bearings wearing out. I’d get a more complete kit.

"I hardly ever carry back seat passengers." This is why I am annoyed with the direction of most manufacturers push for crewcabs vs super/extended cabs. I purchased a 2019 Supercab/extended cab Raptor new. I ordered it this way because I do no need the extra back seat room and I liked the idea of having a shorter wheelbase which in turn improves the break over, etc. Plus IMO, I think it looks better and is definitely more rare. Now they have decided to abandon the Supercab/extended cab all together for the 3rd gen Raptor and the TRX never offered it in the first place. I would love an extended cab Gladiator and I imagine I wouldn't be alone on this.

Unfortunately, the truck market is moving away from working people who need a truck and towards people who want a man sedan--they'd honestly be better off with a minivan if they're so concerned with interior space and are OK with 4.5 feet of cargo space.

@406Steven3 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaTootell indeed, they're so insecure about their masculinity that they have to drive half-a-truck to feel better about themselves. What are you going to do with a 4.5' bed?
@JoshuaTootell3 жыл бұрын
You can do plenty with a short bed. Just that very few do. As an example my (now ex) wife and I have horses. I could carry a half ton of hay in the back of our (now hers) Supercrew F150. Also fits my bikes fine and I would camp out in the back seat. And still tows trailers (handy when you have a horse). For the majority of our marriage we had multiple dogs too, so the back seat was nice. We could have made due with something else, and we did have a small hatch for most of our needs, but I have 0 regret buying that SCrew F150. It's beat to shit now and I've helped her do a lot of maintenance lately (we had an amicable separation). I'm considering the Gladiator because with the back seat removed I have a ton of storage plus sleeping area. The bed for a couple bikes and/or other gear. I can still tow my horse. And I can get to about any trail I want to run or ride. AND a manual transmission. But I'm certainly in the minority, few people have a horse. And I'm not buying as a compensation vehicle (I want a base model). My last car was a Ford Fiesta that I was recently rear ended in and I loved that little thing, but I stretched it's abilities on a constant basis @@406Steven

Great video! Thank you for sharing. But you left out two of Gladiator’s key weaknesses, particularly relative to Wrangler. That long wheelbase, while it provides a smoother ride, it (1) tends to get hung up on the rocks; and (2) limits maneuverability on the trail and around town. One other weakness of Gladiator relative to Wrangler is that you have room for people or to keep groceries out of the elements, but not both at the same time. Granted, you could put a canopy on the the back, but that would defeat the purpose of getting a Gladiator in the first place. My guess is most people are willing to spend $55,000 on a Gladiator over a comparably priced full-size pickup primarily for its looks.
@406Steven3 жыл бұрын
I'd rather have a regular cab Gladiator to help with problem #2, or an extended cab with jump seats. Groceries in the elements aren't a huge deal for me, I'm used to tossing them in the bed of my F-250 with the bed full of snow. Not a big deal there but tonneau covers aren't terribly expensive if it's a deal breaker.

Traded in my Rubicon Wrangler 4 door in for a Grand Cherokee. For 95% of use there is no comparison. Just a side note. On the JLWrangler forums, someone figured out an easy fix. There are some plastic plugs you can buy off Amazon for a few bucks. you plug them into every other vent along the center section of the dash. That forces more heat to the sides of the windshield and defrosts the whole thing properly.

We have a Sport S with a 2" lift and 35's on it currently. We love the truck! But we never tow. My only complaint is the lack of affordable aftermarket rear bumpers and skid plates. It seems like it's $1500+ or nothing at all on both fronts. Since we didn't get a Rubicon we're looking for rear bumpers that also add body protection behind the rear tire. I really wish Jeep made it easy to purchase the Rubicon rear rock sliders. Most off roaders WILL in fact use sway bar disconnects. I'll never understand why Jeep doesn't put quick disconnects on there from the factory. We just put Antirocks on all of our Jeeps and it has been by far the best upgrade we've made. Never have to think about sway bars again! I've been driving Jeeps for 20+ years so the seats are fine to me. I drove the Gladiator from NM to Florida and back at Christmas and have no complaints.

Oracle Oculus headlights are a great aftermarket option for about $450-500 when on sale, so much brighter than OEM. The only downside I’ve found with these (I’m sure all LED lights though) are that they don’t heat up like halogen lights, so pulling over every 20 minutes to dig snow out of your headlight bezels during a storm sucks, otherwise your driving blind.
