While I like the hiking of NC, I'd rather live in the upstate of SC and drive to my hiking destinations. NC was a thought and then it became a melting pot of people from NY, MA, CT, NJ, DC and I don't want that. I'm from rural NJ and miss my small town feel as well as the peace and quiet and bigger properties. To me, NC today is the same exact thing that's happening in NJ and that's what I'm trying to get away from. Greer and TR have really stood out for me and it's still close enough to Greenville if I felt I needed to catch a little city vibe every so often.

I totally get that. Former NYer here :) I feel like the center of Charlotte absolutely can have the overly city feel but LOVE that the southern hospitality is everywhere no matter what. Some of my fav ourskirt towns are Belmont, Mt Holly, Stanly, Denver and Lincoln. This keeps you 25 to 45 min from the city but you are in the country and get the small town feel and at the foothills of the mountains :)

Asheville and Rock Hill are certainly VERY different feels. I lived in Asheville for some time and my husband grew up there. Our parents are still there. What are you desiring in an area? Maybe I can help guide you one way or another Job wise, Asheville is constrained and does not have a very available job market. Cost wise for homes and living it is much higher (one of the more expensive areas of the state). There is plenty to do outdoors, very artsy, and seems to harbor more of a retirement collection of people. Rock HIll job market is solid and is close to other major cities and towns (Charlotte being one) that is also growing and projected to exceed the national job markets and economy. There are still plenty of outdoor activities and has more affordability for living and home values/prices. Also more options. The other advantage is way less traffic than Asheville. Asheville traffic is NO joke. Limited roads and a massive rise in population has caused a lot of issues in Asheville. I'm a tad partial to Rock Hill, but Asheville has its own vibes and it depends on your desires. If you would like a deeper dive comparing against what you are looking for I'd be happy to hop on a call 704-559-9169

Thank you so much for taking the time to write that. Not sure if it’s my phone that could not fit your reply but I got most of it. I’m 63 and was thinking of a place to retire at. Plus I’m always worried about hurricanes here in south east Florida. I moved here from California but grew up in NY. I don’t want freezing winters or lots of snow nor a big city anymore. Yet even though I’m 63 I look and feel more like 40. So I don’t want to be in a boring little town. I plan to visit in March and then decide. Thanks.

@ikedo good to know. Biggest challenge with asheville is its slow and mostly quiet (not much going on) but getting a bit overpopulated and expensive. And you will get snow and plenty of ice. The city shuts down at the threat of anything cold lol. Rock Hill never gets snow and even rarer is ice (it's snowed 3x in asheville so far this year and nothing in Rock Hill or Charlottw). Rock Hill also have more housing options and people who would align with your desired lifestyle aka making friends :) let me know when you're coming and I can put together a little guide so you can check a few places out 704.559.9169

So much Detailed information and spoken very, very well. The only thing that would make this video perfect would be including visuals like pictures/videos of the areas when speaking about them, showing the locations on the map and showing the info on screen when you talk about detailed information like statistics. Considering how much info, the pace and length of the video that would turn it into a very heavy editing job though 😅so its completely understandable. Excellent job! Thank you for the information.

Another great factual video! You really know the numbers, even explained that in SC Primary residents have lower property tax than non-primary (ie rental investment property), whereas NC does not make this distinction. This is the first video mentioning this important point. So Thanks!...😁 I do have a question: In one place (25:38) you mention SC retirement income tax is a bit more favorable for retirees; and then later (26:22) say you might look to North Carolina to reduce retirement taxes. Can you clarify? Thanks!
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina 7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! And regarding the retirement it has more so to do with what type of income you have and what you retired from. For example of you're ex military, esp 100% dissabled, you have lower or no property taxes. Another distinction for retirement is income vs property tax. In NC while our property tax is slightly higher than SC, we have lower income taxes. In fact it is being reduced every year until 2025 till it reaches 3.99% where it will stay. In SC they have a somewhat confusing tiered approach with 0%, 3% (on taxable income from $3,200 to $16,039), and 6.5% (on taxable income over $16,039). So basically 6.5% taxes. If you are still earning an income nc will be less expensive retiring. If you're working off 401k and just pay property taxes, then SC is the winner

And I’m not talking about the spiny Florida lobsters, I’m talking about Maine lobsters.

The other factor is *sanity*! If you want leaders like the ones that made CA such a destination currently (sarcasm off), then choose NC. The state, Charlotte and Raleigh (Asheville too) have all gone left (coast). 😂 As for SC, sane adults remain in positions of responsibility for the most part. A highlight in this respect being the northwest portion (Upstate) SC. With cities like Greenville and Spartanburg and a lot really trustworthy folks in leadership at all levels of govt, state, county and local.

@livingincharlottenorthcarolina
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina Жыл бұрын
I grew up on Long Island myself in Oceanside! Very good question. I would say it all depends on the school. Meaning there are better schools in some areas of charlotte than SC, but some better in Fort Mill than Charlotte (depending on area). If schools are most important, I would seek out the schools first and houses second. Anything over a 6 is a good school. Yes there are some that are lower and some that are higher. The higher the rating usually the more expensive the area so your school being a higher rating may come with a more expensive home. They stay In Emerald Isle or south. Reason being it takes forever to get to the outer banks. And once there takes forever to get to yoru rental. The water is cooler and it's mostly where the northerners go to vacation. That and Dirty Myrtle (myrtle beach)
