When I first started sns I only used the shield bash (I’m playing the game for a second time and I’m on the first zorah quest, I started playing sns three days ago so this isn’t that far back) it’s surprisingly really good against monsters because at the end of the quest I’d noticed that I just never sharpened my sword because it was still on green sharpness from how much I just give the monsters concussions

For all my new SnS users, please note you can chain the first two shield bashes on the triple strike mount finisher basically infinitely, meaning you can almost guarantee a K.O if you want.

What does this even mean? Mount finishers are one animation aren't they? Starting them will automatically fully finish them, so how am I supposed to chain the first 2 hits?

@@ardynizunia9709 There's definitely some variance. Hammer and greatsword have to be charged, chargeblade needs a loaded phial to do full damage, and Swaxe you have to button mash

@@russeshe001 Hammer needs to be charged? I never play GS but I did play loooots of hammer, and not once did I charge a mount attack. I just press the button once and my character does the entire charge animation for the mount finisher. The phials needing to be charged is also irrelevant to the topic, as my confusion was about you being able to only do PART of the finisher, then stop doing it and repeat. As the original commenter clarified, with SnS you need multiple button inputs to finish it and it can be repeated endlessly(as long as your stamina doesn't run out) if you don't ever finish the combo. So lastly, for Swaxe, does the attack stop and start from the beginning ig you don't mash? Iirc you just mess up the attacks damage but it still finishes right? So again, none of your examples are what I meant with the SnS. Even GS, if you need to charge it, which I kinda doubt now cause you also said hammer and I never needed to charge that. Even if you need to charge GS, that still means you can't REPEAT the combo on the mounted monster right? So, SnS is very unique in that remains what I learned.

Truly Glorious I play the same way and I will never change, but, it is slightly disheartening when I choose a weapon(usually the charge blade), head into a hunt and fail a bunch of moves(guard points).

There are some weapons I prefer over others (swagaxe main), but I personally find great enjoyment in learning the intricacies of the other weapons, and testing myself with them, even if I get wrecked at first.

Truly Glorious I feel very similar. I’ll chose a weapon and play only that weapon until I get bored of it, but in that time I usually get fairly decent(currently learning guard points again) and even though I am having a great time using charge blade(I’ve already used it so many times that even when I leave it all the combos and steps are ingrained into my mind) every time a see a good SNS user I think the weapon looks so cool and deadly(I have never spent enough time learning the mechanics of the SNS to use it properly). After typing this I forgot the original reason I responded and noticed I started going into a rant of sorts, so, I’m not sure where I was going with this.

A bit late, but when you mount and you get to the finishing blow, you can press it once or twice and wait a bit then start it over to have some extra damage, but not too much or you'll knock the monster over before finishing the whole thing.

As someone who has mained GS, LS, and Hammer in base world and made a point to learn every weapon except bowguns because... bowguns, S&S is able to compete with GS true charge spam in terms of burst damage now with a perfectly timed rush. That, and going ape with perfect rush is perhaps the most satisfying way to knock down a monster. I can now proudly say S&S is now something I look forward to using on most monsters.

When you mount a monster you can do more than 3 attacks on the monster, I’ve done up to around 10 but you wanna usually stop around 5 or 6 the way you don’t end up KOing the monster while mounting it. All you do is pause for half a second between each bash

@Gab on T2 mons you can can easily stab 9 times. I usually stab 2 times then pause, x3, then the 3 stab to get the extra finisher damage. Not sure if single stabs work out better though, especially in group hunts people just go for the head when you mount and mess it up

I main CB, but I’m flexible enough to use the lance/gunlance, Bow, great sword, and long sword. I have a dual blade, and a few heavy/light bowgun, and a couple switch axes I never use though. Been meaning to get back into them.

Please keep in mind, even though he Sns' perfect rush has a very high damage output, it has a very low part break modifier, (0.3x) until the final hit, where you grapple onto the monster and deal one heavy hit, which has a significantly increased partbreak modifier, (2.5x)

I used SnS through most of world, then high rank hit and I got the wyvern ignition for the 3rd time (I have had to restart world 3 time now thanks to my brother). Wyvern ignition carried me to iceborne and halfway through it, at which point I actually looked for other weapons to use
