Only fast workouts (reduced/eliminated my hip problems) Not on the main trainingvolume (easy runs) otherwise you loose your leg-spring-stiffness and get slower and vulnerable for injuries.

I bought my super shoe 2 months prior to my first half marathon and only wore it twice before the race. Also used it before my first marathon and also only trained in them 3 times before the race. I’ve decided to use them once a month gradually using them for my race pace runs 10k and beyond.

Am a senior; gradual training load and familiarization then used for a half race and at about 8 miles in really began to hurt (feet). Trained again and next race same result. Went back to non-carbon and no problems for next two races and faster back halves with negative splits. Considering one more try but suspect not for this old man.

Racing shoes for race day (and a couple of warm up training runs to make sure they are worn in). Otherwise, minimalist training shoes to help build foot and calf strength.

I agree...something is lost in your running with Carbon Fiber Plates. Shoe rotations are there for a reason. As different shoes stress different muscles as the gait adjusts. So my take is use a shoe rotation. Best way to get your legs used to all conditions.

First carbon shoe was only for the races. Once I bought a new pair, I started using the old ones for training. And so on.. so therefore ended up training 70% of sessions in the carbon shoe. No problems at all so far. However, I think I might take the advice and use them less now. 🤘👍

Yes because you should train in your gear just in general wether it's milltary, auto racing, music, writing and yes simply running... as if you don't the risk of something going wrong goes higher... If your worried about injorty then train in the shoe and stop when you bones aech I've been doing that all my 28 years of life and never had a stress frature despite can easly get them. Which in the US milltary train stress freatures are common because some people are prone to it and did not train before boot camp but you can recover from them and your bones will be stronger... Something you can't say from head injuries in americain football that ghhappen at any level. So yes if you can aforde it do it! your bones will thank you on race day!

Have used them quite a lot last year - around 80% of my training and no direct issues. But I do geht the impression that - as we know - they deteriorate rapidly and by not stoping using them in time you en up running in not ideal shoes. This seems to have been a bit of an issue to my feet lately which is why have significantly reduced using them lately. And it does feel the right way doing this ;-)

Super shoes use your muscles completely different so if you are racing in them you need to train in them. This is why Nike makes training shoes that mimic their running shoes.

As an applied biomechanist there is research and science to entirely support the correlation between long term use of carbon plated shoes and deconditioning of the achilles tendon. This also reduces their performance benefit.

Super shoes have allowed me to run more without injury. I use Nike Zoomfly 5 for training and Vaporfly 3 for races. I also occasionally do barefoot sessions on grass for form. I used to get metatarsal stress fractures and calf strains even at low mileage. Now with super shoes, I can run more and not get injured. Everyone’s different I guess.

Get what you are saying, but I wouldn't class the Zoomfly 5 as a "super shoe", its a mid range decent training shoe.

There needs to be an argument for the running shoe companies to sell all their other models.😜😂 Absolutely Crazy - Every year a new model and way to much derivates. But beeing 100% serious: I had alot of hip-problems and since i use them during my fast workouts (Alpha Fly 1) they went away (for 2 years now). When i once had a break for 3 weeks from running in them, my pain came back. Of course it may be individual, but for me they are the best choice for my fast workouts. No sideeffects since those 2 years. Gettimg faster and faster.

Does the spring back from the carbon plate reduce if you wear them too much?

Usally Carbon Fibre is very durable and doesn't deform plasically. So it should stay in form almost indefinetly
@marcuswills6569

The foam is where you get the spring from as it compresses against the plate, the plate is fine but the foam will break down the more you wear them.

Lets have a little perspective on this. When Nike came out with the first waffle sole I'll bet dollars to donuts that some wise coaches said, don't train in them only use them on race day. Now those "super shoes" of the day, are the daily trainer. And the reality of super shoes is that you have to run in them in a way that gets the most out of them. That's not how you run in a daily trainer. The distance runners all know that it's the last quarter of the run that makes or breaks the run, super shoes come into their own then. I have over the course of the last 18 months used my carbon super shoes and as a result have no injuries, no black toes (except as a result of going back to my trainers because I took another You Tubers advice). And also doubled my weekly mileage. So excuse me for not agreeing. My Puma Dv8 N E have a lot of miles on them and they work just fine. And yes you should train with your disc wheel regularly, how else will you become confident in any wind conditions. There's no point in being nervous on race day. Buy a gatorskin if need be to practice and use butyl inner tubes, but use that disc....😇
