Taking a break is a great idea. I don't think that people realize sometimes how difficult making videos for a living can be on the mind (and by extension, the body). Without properly compensating in other aspects of life, it can be very unhealthy to do this as a full-time job. Breaks like this are so important if they're needed to just take a long, deep breath, realign yourself and regain some perspective. Just make sure that you're headed down a path that will benefit you in the end. Relax, have some fun. You have hundreds of thousands of people waiting for you when you come back and they aren't going anywhere. Your health takes foremost priority ahead of everything else, so have a productive and healthy break!

To go back to your initial question, I think what draws people to your content is how you bring so much humanity to your video essays. I feel like I’m getting such a personal look into your mindset when you talk about any piece of media, and that’s so engaging - but I think that makes it all the more emotionally tiring. You are an inspiration, and I am all for you taking a break if you need one bud

It’s very strong of you to share your hardships with us. I don’t think people understand how grueling editing can be, and even more in such a smoothly and creative style that you have. I am no expert, but it once took me 70 hours to do a two minute video. It truly is grueling work, and I’m not even counting the time you spend in watching and analyzing the shows, writing the scripts, interacting in social media or with your patreons, etc. I just want to tell you that what you’re doing is not only great, it’s revolutionary. In this small time in history, we have been given the opportunity to share with millions of people how much we love media, and why. Beautifully crafted videos like the ones you make dissect the true value behind many shows, something many of us could not have done, and it both informs us and confirms to us that there is so much to the media that we watch. This is more noticeable in anime, a colossal media movement that not a half decade ago was wildly misunderstood and shunned in the west, but now is not only accepted, but is becoming a part of the west mainstream culture itself. I am convinced that the reason is because channels like you give us fans an analytical leg to stand on (if that makes sense.) It also helps creators like me find such inspired works to raise the bar on what we should create. Your videos on have led me to watch works like Berserk, Hunter x Hunter, JJBA, Perfect Blue and read some of Junji Ito’s work. I can confidently say that those works have changed me as a writer and artist. From the bottom of my heart and from thousands of others, thank you for your hard work and your honesty. Please, please, take care.

Honestly, Gon and Killua's characters and their relationship are probably my favorite thing about hxh. It always amazes me how realistic they are, both as individuals and friends. It's SO rare to see such genuine friendships and such well written child characters in media, especially if it's something darker and more mature like hxh is - and as someone who has a little brother who's their age, I can say that they do act like actual, normal 12 year olds a lot of the time, with all their banter and seemingly endless energy and all the cute lil interactions. Which just makes any bad shit that happens all the more hard hitting.

One of my favorite things about this show is the unpredictability. People who have watched so much anime that it's become second nature can not miss out on the experience of Hunter X Hunter. I'm not saying that it's filled with insane plot twists and surprise moments, like something like Deathnote for example, but it's the way the show constantly deviates from traditional/conventional anime tropes and clichés. It just throws you off guard and surprises you with it's creativity and uniqueness. I loved it. I really hope it finishes hiatus soon.

I can't count how many times I got thrown off watching HxH. The more anime I watch, the more I start to see certain patterns being repeated, especially throughout shounen anime. But HxH has always kept me on my toes and forced me to turn off my brain and just watch the show instead of trying to predict what will happen next. I really appreciate coming across these rare gems such as HxH.

I trully like the 2011 ending version, as it closes the "story" in a beautiful, hopeful way. What I mean is that it allows viewers to hope for their own story in case they didn't ready the manga. Another interesting fact is that the anime story ends right when the world suddenly expands, which makes the story about the world we "know" kinda complete. And eventually, it has that bitter-sweet feeling of all good stories that seem too short, yet needed stoping there in order not to ruin their beauty (I know the manga is still going, but as an anime, this is a masterpiece, which is rare when compared to original mangas).

I mean there is a little bit of backstory to some Characters but overall hxh is pretty weak in this one section i have to admit If u compare it with Naruto for example you will see why i say so. But still hxh is a great shonen
@yiangaruga4928
@yiangaruga4928 5 жыл бұрын
@@havoc1426 I actually disagree, sometimes less is more and HxH gives the characters just as much backstory as they need. We don't need Melody to have a some super deep backstory, it's a simple one and yet tells us just enough about her and fills us in more when we see how she acts. And same can be said about alot of the characters in HxH, their actions tell more about who they are and why they are that way than telling some boring sad backstory of them. In fact when you think about it, the Chimera ants literally don't even have a background aside from some of the human memories they keep, it's a proof that characters don't need much and often less is more. That being said, does Naruto really handle backstories that well? Kisame, Deidara, Temari, Tenten, Ino... I can't recall these characters having a very intuitive and good backstory and they're more major characters than someone like Melody and just a fraction of other Naruto characters I could've listed here. The only times Naruto executes backstories "better" is when a whole arc is about the characters for example with Pain and Obito, Itachi etc. I still wouldn't call that superior story telling to HxH though.. Especially since alot of the time the backstories and flashbacks drag on forever in Naruto and tell us more than we need to know about the characters most of the time without really telling us anything that important. Less.. Is more.
@horsemask
@horsemask 5 жыл бұрын
@@havoc1426 the reason that's true is mostly because Hunter x Hunter doesn't burden the viewer with overblown dramatic backstories. Naruto is bloated as hell with overdone backstories and the story suffers a lot for it. Hunter x Hunter gives you all you really need and leaves the rest to imagination. Backstories and flashbacks in Naruto stop everything that's happening so they can tell you this shit that happened previously and happens to be relevant now. The fact that Hunter x Hunter does not do this is reason 1 of like 10 million I think it's better than Naruto. Naruto has a very stop and start story due to the excessive backstories and flashbacks. Hunter x Hunter's flows seamlessly because it rarely drops everything to tell you some random crop from 20 years ago or whatever. Hunter x Hunter treats its characters more like people, where usually all you get from them is what they do and what they say. That's what being around people is like. I don't need to know Chrollo's backstory. He's more interesting without it. It's the principle of leaving some elements of the story to mystery to keep the audience's mind wandering after its over. Naruto doesn't really have that as it gives you every possible piece of information you could want. And while there's nothing wrong with that, I prefer shows that leave a little to the imagination and don't fill out every piece of their world just because they can.

Just know that what you've done is something really, really great and special for a lot of people. In a sea of cynical critics, you have the ability to take a really human look at why we love the things we do without placing them on an unreachable pedestal, so that people without a basis in film, animation or fiction of any kind can understand what makes a great work of fiction and how absolutely anybody can learn to tell a good story. Take your time for yourself, and don't feel ashamed about it. You don't owe us anything, but we owe you so much more than you might understand.

I mean, maybe? Legend of the Galactic Heroes is better than it definitely. As for that, it's hard to give solid points for why it isn't in the next two. HxH is definitely the best shonen in my opinion. How FMAB got half the popularity it did, I will never know. I mean, it's good, but it didn't actually wow me or anything. It really depends on my mood. Koe no Katachi probably had better emotional weight, Sword of the Stranger has the best choreographed fight scene, Code Geass and Deathnote both do good work with the 'strategy' of the show and AoT is one of the best structured shows I have ever scene and it does a good job of being badass. Despite all that, I honestly can't say they are better or worse that HxH simply because I cannot put my finger on what I found so intriguing about the story. I mean, it's a deconstruction of the shonen genre, so maybe that's what did it, but the characters aren't the best I have ever seen (the villains might be though), the animation isn't spectacular, the fights are great but not spectacular and the background of the show isn't exactly well developed either. Still love it, just can't say why I love it so much.

Hunter x Hunter stands out to me as a purely character-driven story. Which is rare in any medium or genre, not just in shounen action animanga. What keeps it so fresh and exciting and utterly heartbreaking is that the plot is shaped completely by the decisions of every character, rather than characters feeling as though they were created to serve some purpose in the plot. There's nothing wrong with the latter approach, but it leads to storytelling that can feel formulaic and predictable. Which is a problem that plagues shounen especially. By putting the impetus of plot progression purely in the hands of characters and their organic decisions, Togashi manages to keep his audience on their toes, but without sacrificing a cohesive whole. Because if you go back and examine how the story ended up where it did, you see the dominoes of the decisions each character made, and understand -- based on their personality and motivation --exactly why they made them. It requires a level of skill as a storyteller that I've seen only a handful of times. I don't say this lightly: Togashi is a genius.

I don't think Hunter X Hunter is the most character-driven in any media. I think is just a good show and manga. I feel Watchmen the comic book is most character-driven because is examines the characters.

@@brucebanana4486 I mean, I haven't seen or read all the fiction out there. I'm sure there are others that rival it. But the only one I know of that comes close is aSoIaF (the novels, not the show). I haven't read Watchmen and so I can't comment on it. I'm sure it's earned its acclaim.

That was such a profound way to end this video. Thank you for sharing what you're going through. It's easy to forget all of the hard work that goes into the videos you're watching on KZbin but there's always someone behind that work and it's not always easy for them.

I've finally gotten to Chimera ant years after seeing this video. And, under halfway through I came to realize it was doubtlessly my favorite arc in the show. There's a fascinating complexity I adore from that arc, and I know I'm not through yet. One thing will never change though: Gon will never get the concept of Stranger Danger. Sure Hisoka creeped him out(that is literally his nickname from me), but now Palm too? He can't be more than what? 13/14 maybe? The wiki says she's 22. That is way too big of an age gap!

I subscribed a few months ago. I think you come off as passionate and very genuine. That's what stuck out to me the most. It's clear that you care about every video and the subject presented within. So many channels try to follow a "youtube" style and in the process, they lose that personal touch. Your videos are like listening to a friend talk instead of listening to a guy trying to sell me on a product or their channel. Also, you have a great voice for narration.

I'm currently going through college for an art degree at a very tough place with tough professors and instructors. I have fallen apart multiple times trying to hang onto dear life with having to redo assignments many times. All for the sake of having a passion to make what I think are great things I want to share with people, that as of right now, I dont have the skill for. I most likely will be in a lot of student debt at the end of this journey and with all these eating at me constantly. I've been pushed to very dangerous places in my life because of this and nearly let myself go, regardless of what would happen after. But, then I saw a video pop up on my feed, it was "why you should play Silent Hill 2" and as a fan of the game that had managed to get his hands on each game brand new before the price increase, I watched it for the interest of checking it out. That video was, amazing and well put, eloquent and most of all, passionate. I listened to it while working on an animation that I didnt think I would be able to make. After hearing it I started listening to more videos and eventually found myself anticipating the next video, because at that point all the anxieties that i had on overdrive finally calmed down, and I could focus my work. While I didnt pass I got a better grade and later assignments started to improve. I managed to stay alive for another semester and continued to the following tougher semester. That video most likely saved my semester and probably saved my life given how terrible my mental state was and kinda still is. Your videos are something I look forward to, I won't lie about that, but I always come back and listen to them while working on my artwork and assignments. And i want to thank you, so very much for saving me from a very dark place. Even if you stop making videos, even if you never return I want you to know that I'm thankful for what you've made. And I want you to know that I'm happy with whatever you do with your channel, if you want to take a break or stop, dont feel ashamed or bad about it you've already have done more than enough for me at least. Sorry about the long post, hope you continue to do well. -RealCharacter

After being switched to permanently working from home as a result of COVID, I got the chance to watch 2 episodes of anime on Netflix during my lunch. It was the first time I saw some very well-known series like Ouran High School Host Club, Death Note, and even Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I can't believe how insanely lucky the timing was when I started watching Hunter x Hunter. By the time I reach the end of S4, it will be June 30th. Seasons 5 & 6 will arrive July 1.

Hey man, I watched Hunter because of your first video and I have seen it over 5 times since and recommended it to everybody I know. It's my absolute favourite thing put to screen, more spectacular than any movie, more grand than any other show, more gratifying than any video game. The only other thing's I can compare to it are JoJo's, Gintama, Undertale, Nier:Automata and of course YuYu. The only thing that surpasses it in my opinion is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, soon getting a movie adaptation by Sam Raimi :D In other news I just got scammed for almost $600 and am more suicidal than ever... I'm glad I spoiled the latest arc because it helps knowing there's more to live for. fucking sad right? Patrick Rothfuss actually gets non stop harassment from his fans for the third and final installment of his series... it's been about 7 years since the last book. The world is cruel

I had read every chapter and absolutely fell in love with every aspect of the story. Wolf, your channel has been a pretty important one to me. I would not have seen so many amazing shows if it wasn't for your videos. That being said, please take a break if you need one. I understand how insanely stressful it must be to keep putting out videos, especially when there are so many people out there ready to criticize or insult you. You're not perfect, you don't need to feel bad for putting out videos everyone didn't like. For what it's worth, I've liked every video you put on your channel. I know they aren't perfect. But, that's okay, the most important thing is that your passion and personality always shine through. I didn't watch Hunter x Hunter because of any of the reasons you listed in that video. I watched Hunter x Hunter because, a youtuber I respect was so attached to it, he chose to make a 40 minute video and expressing how amazing he thinks it is and how much you should watch it. What I'm trying to get at, is, it'd be nice to see you come back and make more videos, your uploads are always a pleasure. But, first things first, if KZbin has been having such a large negative effect on you, please, take a break. And, if need be, consider stopping entirely. It's been a pleasure Wolf, thanks for helping me figure out the shows that I should watch.

I understand what you feel. I have goals and ambitions but I have no idea where I'm actually going, I just keep pushing and grinding along the path I have found myself on, and more often than not, it's painful. Brutally painful to a point that makes me wonder why I chose this path to begin with. I am in a position that I have fought for tirelessly but I constantly doubt myself and the pressure of the responsibility I have taken on board is crushing. What pushes me forward though, what gets me through those periods where you hit rock bottom so HARD it feels like theres no point trying to climb up again, is the gratitude I receive from those who I have influenced. So for all its worth I want to say, genuinely and from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Thank you for pushing forward and creating art for me to enjoy, thank you for never giving up despite your adversities and self doubt, and THANK YOU for your uniqueness, enthusiasm and passion both in your work and to the content you portray. Appreciate how far you've come, and learn to love the hardships that you have faced on your journey because they are what have made you as successful and influential as you are today, and remember, YOU DESERVE IT! Never doubt that! And when you dont believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Pandemesis that believes in you!
